They give complimentary edamame and miso soup. My favorites are the shrimp and the crispy fish with sweet and sour sauce. Its basically just shrimp but they have vinegar sauce yoy can pour or dip. The portion is decent too. The crispy fish had no bones in it and the sauce was amazing with the fish. Fish wss really crispy. There were pieces of shrimp in that dish too. Ordered what my mom kept describing as bo luc lac//shaking beef but it was different. It didnt have enough pepper too it and it was sweeter. I looked at the menu and it said honey pepper. So makes sense why it was sweet. The garlic pieces were good. Some were still half raw so it was extra spicy. I thought the sweet and sour pork would be the same sauce as the fish but its different. Ot was more of a savory sweet sauce. I guess thats why its a shanghai version. Not sure if they sell the other one anymore that ive seen pictures of. I didnt try the snow peas but it mustve been good since it was all gone and we didnt have to take it home.

Delicious Chinese home-style dishes at amazing prices. You can get whole steamed fish and other common family dishes starting at $12. The food is delicious and always fresh because turnover is high and most things are made to order. The parking is plentiful as it is in a big plaza but you may not end up parking close to the restaurant. The wait is also pretty bad during peak hours, 45min/1 hour waits have been my experience during dinner rush.

My parents said this place is popular since they do a lunch and dinner special that is cheap and tastes good, so we came here for dinner on a Friday. Their dinner dishes are all $12.99 which is super rare! They usually have long wait times (can be up to 30mins) but today was not that crowded so it only took around 20 minutes. They are not super big inside but they do have two private rooms where we got seated with another party, which wasn't bad since we each just eat our own meals. They give free tea, which tasted like pretty good quality tea, and I drank quite a few cups. They also give free edamame and miso soup as appetizers, which was nice. The miso soup has some seaweed and soft tofu which I enjoyed. We ordered the Stir Fried Dry Bean Curd w/ Pork, Braised Pork in Brown Sauce, Stir Fried Cauliflower (not spicy), Fried Squid in Three Flavor Sauce, and the Shanghai Style Sweet Sour Pork. They are super busy but all the dishes were served fast, within 5 minutes of each other and only after maybe 10 minutes from when we ordered. The dishes all looked super good and not too oily. The portions are also reasonable for the price and is just enough for our group to share. My favorite was the Stir Fried Bean Curd w Pork and the Braised Pork. Both were flavorful but not too salty. And the braised pork was had the right amount of fat and the meat was cooked just right so it was tender and not too dry. The others were also seasoned well and we enjoyed it. The least favorite was the Shanghai Style Sweet Sour Pork because it was more sour than sweet and didn't have much meat on the bones, but I still thought it was pretty good. All the dishes were good and very worth the price. It is not something you can find easily at dinner time, especially with this quality. The white rice is also free of charge which is so rare! I recommend this place if you want cheap authentic Chinese food and great service with free appetizers. Just be prepared to come early or there will be long wait times. I will be coming back again.

Red 99 is a very popular spot for the non-working folks, and by that I mean people with flexible schedules. They are always busy during the lunch and dinner hours, so be patient. Once you do sit down and order, the food usually comes out fairly quickly. They are known for their lunch specials, a list of popular items at one of the best prices in the area, and it's the same lunch and dinner. The atmosphere and decor is nice and the service is very prompt. I've tried almost every item on the specials menu, and there's plenty to choose from. They're all pretty good with the exception of a couple. I haven't had luck with their beef dishes. The beef and broccoli was a bit too salty. The beef with scallions was tasty, but had a lot more scallions than beef. On occasion, we get a steamed fish that's very ... fishy. Some dishes are flavorful but oily. Overall, the flavors, service and the lunch specials menu has us coming back for more.

Plenty of parking in this big plaza. This restaurant is always busy with lines cause of their cheap prices. We came around 6pm so the wait time was like 10 min. Staff was quick and efficient in bringing the dishes out. AC kind of strong in the room we're in but not bad overall. There is complimentary miso soup. We ordered dishes from their dinner special menu priced at $12.99 each. Portions and overall taste were good for this price point. They are slightly oily but not too bad. Also comes with a free tin of rice.

I really like this restaurant, the servers were quick and courteous. I like watching the staff move, they are super efficient. The restaurant is spacious and it can accommodate large or small parties. I have gotten take out before, but this time we did dine in, and I have to say that the food is even better! Everything comes out piping out and the price and flavors can't be beat! Rice is included, you get miso soup and edamame beans with the meal. I will definitely be back to try more dishes.

Red 99 has been offering economy meal specials menu for $12.99 over several years and used to be $10 per items... before inflation periods... Services were so excellent quick n efficient!!! Foods have been so tasty n delicious with Shanghainese style. They are using a lot of garlic, brown sugar and vinegar ingredients...

My friends brought me here for my birthday. Few items were bland. Service was good. Reasonably priced. Definitely bring a lot of people with you so that you can try a lot of dishes.

Came here to celebrate the hubby birthday with friends. Yes, another birthday dinner for him. We were seated at a small room to the side. The interiors are not bad for a strip mall. They made an effort to do something and bit make it plain. The service is attentive and friendly. Food came out fairly quickly and there was a lot of food for the 7 of us . The food is good, some nice comfort food thought it was missing the heat of the wok. No one dish stood out. But no dish was bad. Surprising my the one dish I didn't think I would like, fish soup, ended up being one of my favorites of the evening. If you are nearby and cannot make up your mind, this is a solid place for simple Chinese food. Give it a try.

It has become my go to place now every time when I visit the SGV. Food were very delicious and authentic. Services were great. They kept on checking on you and see whether plates need to be replaced or taken away. Just be prepared there might be long wait to get in.

    Russ C.

If you are in SGV and don't mind a little waiting for your lunch or dinner, this place is solid! $11.99 tasty lunch plates, many good dishes. During lunch, if there is 2-3 peeps in your party and you don't mind sharing big round table with strangers it's pretty quick. Otherwise, it might be 45minutes to an hour to wait. Be sure to track your time! They don't want to wait long for you, they will give away the table right away. Great place to eat. I'll be back. Try it here!

    Christy C.

They're open daily (except Tuesday) at 11:30am-2:15pm then reopens 5pm-9:15pm They are very popular so I arrived 30 min before their opening time and still had to wait in line! You really get the bang for your buck here! There is a good selection of dishes for $11.99 and it's available lunch and dinner! It also comes with complimentary tea, white rice, miso soup, and edamame! What a deal! Inside is very spacious with plenty of seating but service definitely can use some improvement! Once seated, there is pretty much zero service. I understand it's very busy but it doesn't seem like they're understaffed. Steam Greenland Hailbut was incredible! It was not too fishy or greasy! I really enjoyed that it wasn't too salty and not too much bones! I was impressed by the big portion and how flavorful it was so this was 9/10! Stir Fried Pork Belly was amazing! It was slightly salty but the sauce was the highlight of this dish! It was a mix of sweet and salty! It even with an egg that was marinated so well! The pork belly was so tender and not too fatty so this was 9/10! Definitely recommend and will for sure return!

Are the $11.99 special menu items available for take out or is it for dine in only?

Yes, you can order to go for the same price as dine in. I ordered twice and the foods don't taste as good as when you have them cooked and straight out of kitchen.

    Do they have private rooms?

    Can I reserve a table?

    Yes, why not?

It has always been free thus far.

Everything is good and absolutely savory so be ready for umami left and right. Personally for me, I'm a sucker for anything braised or fried so surprise surprise, we got a healthy dose of braised pork and fried seaweed fish! Both were absolutely salivating so if you're stuck between one or the other, just get both. Pan fried buns are also another guilty pleasure of mine, so be liberal with how much you order, you won't regret it. Stuff yourself silly with the buns, just try not to splash any soup onto yourself. Beyond those 3 dishes, we ordered some noodles and vegetables but meh, protein dishes are where it's at. So all in all, this is a palace fit for a king/queen like you, eat up, be merry, maybe come back for round 2!

The interior feels nice and lavish, and the dishes are served on these massive plates that really give off a luxury dining vibe. Servers were also nice for the most part. Food-wise, I ordered the yan du xian, xiao long bao, and a crab dish that came with the thin wraps usually used for duck. The xiao long bao was acceptable, though the flavor was definitely different from what I'm used to at other local spots like Din Tai Fung. Not bad, just different. The crab dish was actually pretty tasty and something I'd definitely order again. The yan du xian, unfortunately, was the weak point for me. I have this dish relatively often, so I had certain expectations going in. The soup had this strange stench to it that I can't really describe beyond just tasting "stinky." It may have been from the pork or bamboo shoots, though the pork itself tasted okay to me. Whatever it was, the flavor just felt off, and I'd probably skip that dish next time. Overall though, I still enjoyed the experience enough to maybe come back and try other dishes like the acorn fish and braised pork, but will need some time first to forget the yan du xian flavor...

Of course, it was the first thing that arrived, so we each voraciously ate a wedge on its own. Fish Filet with Bean Sauce: If you have enough self control, wait until they bring out the fish. I honestly didn't know what to expect when we ordered this dish. I thought it would be more like a braised dish. But man was I surprised. This is essentially char Siu that they batter like the Taiwanese pork chops. So you know this is a winning dish. This place isn't too big and they had a line out the door with people waiting for dinner. Definitely come here early. Staff was friendly and as quick as they could be. Definitely will come back.

Nice taste and texture Chicken xiao long bao: 7/10. Not as big a fan. When we ordered more xlb for round 2, we definitely did not get more of this one. Scallion pancake: 8/10. Solid but not much to say about it Walnut shrimp: 9/10. Definitely some of the better walnut shrimps I've had. The shrimp are also a great size. We ordered this again Seafood fried rice: 9/10. Very nice portion and decent amount of seafood in here. I like the variety of seafood. Green beans: 7/10. I don't think most restaurants do a good job, but this one isn't bad Rice cakes: I don't think I can fairly judge rice cakes because I'm generally not a fan, but everyone else liked it Beef rolls: 9/10. Also very good. They were nice and checked if we wanted to cut it into 4 pieces or 6 which was very considerate of them. Servers are very nice and friendly. I really liked the service. They were also very quick and efficient with clearing empty plates out and refilling the water containers.

The acidity and chili oil makes this such an addictive combo. - Wood Ear Mushroom w/ Vinegar Dressing ($6.95): Yum! A great side as a palate cleanser. - Shanghai Braised Pork Belly ($18.95): Very tender and fatty. - Lobster & Kurobuta Pork Xiao Long Bao (6/$19.99): Delicious! The skin is thin and the meat is juicy with delectable soup! Not the best I've had especially taking the price into account, but I'd still say it's a good choice for XLB. - Dan Dan Noodles w/ Sesame Sauce & Minced Pork ($12.95): My friends all thought this was decent. For me personally it was a bit overly nutty. [Service] - Fast, helpful, attentive [Ambiance] - Decent amount of tables - Can watch them make dumplings through the glass [Overall] - I don't live around this area but I wouldn't mind coming back next time I'm in the area.. unless my friends suggest otherwise

Not bad, not bad!! Truly was a surprise tbh. We were in the SGV area so wanted to eat something…read moretasty and found this on Yelp. A great find indeed! Couldn't find the spot at first in the plaza but it is located near a McDonald's. Looked big from outside but was a decent size inside with a good amount of tables and seating space. Service was really fast, got seated quick and they were fast to take our orders which was crazy at first but they were on it with service so I appreciated that. Even the food came out pretty fast. Saw that the Beef Noodle Soup was good so I had to try it, the beef broth was delicious and I love bok choy so they had me at bok choy! Beef was nicely cooked too, I liked it! Dan Dan noodles were okay and it felt like it was spicy peanut butter but still good, just not my favorite. But the pork dumplings (xiao long bao) was YUMMY. It really hit the spot when we grabbed one each and the warmth and taste was delicious. Definitely my favorite! Pork and crab dumplings were good too! I was just too full at that point to have more of it all. I'd say this place satisfied my hunger and I left there super full so I'll comeback again :)

The beef noodle soup was absolutely the highlight! I honestly wish we ordered three of these. We will absolutely be coming back. The service was really good. They had folks sweeping and cleaning the entire time, and whenever we needed somebody to help, they immediately came over. We also had a lot of questions about the menu, and they were super helpful there too.
