Food****// pretty good value they have special full day if you want to save some. Spicy beef was authentically done like I had in other sichuan places Service***// regular service considering how many guests in there. $12.99 lunch special ?? In this economy?? And it's authentic Chinese food?? YESSS PLEASE!! A family member recommended this place and the price definitely got me interested ... and wow I was so blown away like the quality is definitely up there with famous Chinese restaurants in the SGV. Also, rice is free!! And cooked soooo well like not mushy at all. I know some places charge extra for rice but not here. You also get complimentary edamame and miso soup. Hunan Style Fried Pork-- it looks intimidating but the chilis are the fragrant kind!! Super mild baby spice, not like eating serranos. Super good flavor, wok hei is there, definitely getting again Stir Fried Pork Belly-- Similar to Hunan style but instead of chilis it's ... onion. There's so much onion. We just picked out the meat. Order the Hunan one with chili instead of this. Steam Greenland Halibut-- ORDER MULTIPLE!! One is not enough to share with the table!! It's so good you pretty much just want your own. It's like banquet style whole steam fish softness and texture and flavor.... Without the enormous price tag. Braised Pork in Brown Sauce-- Melty fatty tender goodness. The sauce is super rich and savory. Pretty much everything here is made to eat with rice so if it's too salty for you.. eat more rice. Stir fry dry bean curd with pork-- Look I know it's not the most appetizing looking or all that in terms of color palette.. BUT IT IS GOOOOD! Not all restaurants can make a good tofu dish but wow this is amazing. The flavor profile reminds me of that bean curd appetizer at din tai fung with the seaweed strips and bean sprouts. It's savory, slightly vinegary, meat is really tender and the tofu texture just goes sooo well with everything. Fried squid in three flavor sauce-- WARNING!! There's the clear squid bone (?) attached so make sure you pull it out !!! Flavor wise it's my first time having a sanbei dish that wasn't chicken. It's good though! Super tender, just make sure to pull out that clear strip and you're all set. Kung Pao Chicken-- Basic dish but NOOOT basic flavors!! Best kung pao chicken I've had in my life my god. We ordered it for the kid lolol but we probably ate more than he did. The chicken is super soft and tender and there's mala spice!! It's not the Americanized flavoring but actual spice and mala. Stir Fry Fish Fillet in Spicy Sauce-- Super soft fish and it comes with tofu too. Flavor is kind of like mapo tofu? It's good with rice!! No complaints 10/10 had a great time, love the price, and definitely will be coming back. There's a big parking lot too!
12.99 dollar dinner in this economy?! That's why all the families and older aunties and uncles are here day and night. Almost everyone gets the steam fish because that is probably the best thing for your buck on the menu and it's delicious. of course this is live steamed fish and there's no fishy taste because it's immediately cooked after catch. Other notable menu items are the steamed chicken and the vermicelli. In order to get seated faster and if you're a small party, it's recommended that you share a large table. But this isn't unusual if you've ever been to Asia and sharing tables with strangers is very normalized in order to maximize the amount of people waiting and serving people quickly. The waiter service is exactly what you expect out of a restaurant that has a deal menu and people are not here for a long time for an economic dinner and lunch. They mainly speak Cantonese, but they also speak Mandarin. It can get quite noisy because the restaurant is almost always full, but that's to be expected. If you come to a restaurant that is popular with families!
今天要來介紹，已經好幾年都沒有辦法踏進來的紅九九，每一次經過都是很多人在排隊，想說今天放假會不會阿伯大媽們也出城玩， 不用大排長龍，結果是我想太多，還是一樣，11:35 分到，已經拿到17 號了，反正我剛好要到附近辦事，先拿號碼再回來等， 這樣就可以吃到了～ 東西真的物超所值，光那條清蒸粒魚，朋友就讚譽有加，通常一般的店裡要20 幾元，近30 元，他家生意好，新鮮，大條 ，又好吃，小等了一會兒，肚子好餓歐，我們還有點湖南小炒肉， 豆瓣魚片， 清炒四季豆，跟三杯小卷， 兩人吃的津津有味， 忘了提，人家還送了miso 湯 ， 當然這價格還包白飯，熱茶， 每道熱騰騰的上來，都12.99 ，不管中午或晚上，難怪生意會無敵，朋友還說， 來這還有個好處， 我們在裡面不敢說是最年輕，也是數一數二年輕啦，不只東西好吃，還可以自我感覺良好，也只有在 San Gabriel 才有這種價格這麽好，現炒又便宜的餐廳了！
They give complimentary edamame and miso soup. My favorites are the shrimp and the crispy fish with sweet and sour sauce. Its basically just shrimp but they have vinegar sauce yoy can pour or dip. The portion is decent too. The crispy fish had no bones in it and the sauce was amazing with the fish. Fish wss really crispy. There were pieces of shrimp in that dish too. Ordered what my mom kept describing as bo luc lac//shaking beef but it was different. It didnt have enough pepper too it and it was sweeter. I looked at the menu and it said honey pepper. So makes sense why it was sweet. The garlic pieces were good. Some were still half raw so it was extra spicy. I thought the sweet and sour pork would be the same sauce as the fish but its different. Ot was more of a savory sweet sauce. I guess thats why its a shanghai version. Not sure if they sell the other one anymore that ive seen pictures of. I didnt try the snow peas but it mustve been good since it was all gone and we didnt have to take it home.
Locate it next to The Hat. Lots of free parking. Closed on Tuesdays. All other days they are open 1130 to 215 and then 5 to 9:15. There is a self-service online waitlist where you add your phone number so they can text you when your table is ready. Came on a Sunday evening and it was pretty packed with six people ahead of us. Lots of seating available , including large tables for parties and private rooms for gatherings. Hot Tea comes in a plastic pot with a plastic strainer inside and a plastic clear tube outside. Most of their dishes are served on plastic / melamine type plates. I went to the restroom and a server came in and washed her black gloves with soap, stood in line for the restroom and never took off the gloves. It looked like she was not intending to ever take off the gloves. Hopefully she'll wash them again after using the restroom. Maybe they're only allotted one pair a day? I don't know but gross. That being said, their specials are very decently priced. Steamed tilapia is $14.99. Their specials are $12.99 on weekdays and $13.99 on weekends and holidays. The steamed halibut and A choy were excellent. I was not a fan of the braised vermicelli and will not order it again. Everything is bathed in oil. Very greasy. Overall did was great, food comes out very fast, especially the steamed tilapia- it arrived almost instantaneously after we ordered- probably premade since every table had a steamed tilapia. Would definitely come back again, for the food and microplastics :/
Red 99 is a very popular spot for the non-working folks, and by that I mean people with flexible schedules. They are always busy during the lunch and dinner hours, so be patient. Once you do sit down and order, the food usually comes out fairly quickly. They are known for their lunch specials, a list of popular items at one of the best prices in the area, and it's the same lunch and dinner. The atmosphere and decor is nice and the service is very prompt. I've tried almost every item on the specials menu, and there's plenty to choose from. They're all pretty good with the exception of a couple. I haven't had luck with their beef dishes. The beef and broccoli was a bit too salty. The beef with scallions was tasty, but had a lot more scallions than beef. On occasion, we get a steamed fish that's very ... fishy. Some dishes are flavorful but oily. Overall, the flavors, service and the lunch specials menu has us coming back for more.
Red 99 has been offering economy meal specials menu for $12.99 over several years and used to be $10 per items... before inflation periods... Services were so excellent quick n efficient!!! Foods have been so tasty n delicious with Shanghainese style. They are using a lot of garlic, brown sugar and vinegar ingredients...
My parents said this place is popular since they do a lunch and dinner special that is cheap and tastes good, so we came here for dinner on a Friday. Their dinner dishes are all $12.99 which is super rare! They usually have long wait times (can be up to 30mins) but today was not that crowded so it only took around 20 minutes. They are not super big inside but they do have two private rooms where we got seated with another party, which wasn't bad since we each just eat our own meals. They give free tea, which tasted like pretty good quality tea, and I drank quite a few cups. They also give free edamame and miso soup as appetizers, which was nice. The miso soup has some seaweed and soft tofu which I enjoyed. We ordered the Stir Fried Dry Bean Curd w/ Pork, Braised Pork in Brown Sauce, Stir Fried Cauliflower (not spicy), Fried Squid in Three Flavor Sauce, and the Shanghai Style Sweet Sour Pork. They are super busy but all the dishes were served fast, within 5 minutes of each other and only after maybe 10 minutes from when we ordered. The dishes all looked super good and not too oily. The portions are also reasonable for the price and is just enough for our group to share. My favorite was the Stir Fried Bean Curd w Pork and the Braised Pork. Both were flavorful but not too salty. And the braised pork was had the right amount of fat and the meat was cooked just right so it was tender and not too dry. The others were also seasoned well and we enjoyed it. The least favorite was the Shanghai Style Sweet Sour Pork because it was more sour than sweet and didn't have much meat on the bones, but I still thought it was pretty good. All the dishes were good and very worth the price. It is not something you can find easily at dinner time, especially with this quality. The white rice is also free of charge which is so rare! I recommend this place if you want cheap authentic Chinese food and great service with free appetizers. Just be prepared to come early or there will be long wait times. I will be coming back again.
Plenty of parking in this big plaza. This restaurant is always busy with lines cause of their cheap prices. We came around 6pm so the wait time was like 10 min. Staff was quick and efficient in bringing the dishes out. AC kind of strong in the room we're in but not bad overall. There is complimentary miso soup. We ordered dishes from their dinner special menu priced at $12.99 each. Portions and overall taste were good for this price point. They are slightly oily but not too bad. Also comes with a free tin of rice.
Came during Father's Day for dinner at 5pm. Maybe because it was so busy but I thought the food was very underwhelming today. Most of the dishes lacked flavor and tasted a bit bland. The eel was probably the most disappointing dish. I felt the sauce tasted kind of watered down not sweet, it didn't go well with the eel and I didn't like how it was so drenched with a pool of sauce. The fried salt and pepper crab was so disappointing despite how good it looked. I felt it lacked flavor and juiciness that this dish usually has and portions were quite small. The best dishes and saving grace was the cold wine chicken and duck, soup was also decent. The service was pretty good despite how crowded it was today. Waiters were very attentive which I appreciated. Overall 5.8/10, I hope to come back in the future and try it when it isn't so crowded. Maybe I just came on an off day.
I really like this restaurant, the servers were quick and courteous. I like watching the staff move, they are super efficient. The restaurant is spacious and it can accommodate large or small parties. I have gotten take out before, but this time we did dine in, and I have to say that the food is even better! Everything comes out piping out and the price and flavors can't be beat! Rice is included, you get miso soup and edamame beans with the meal. I will definitely be back to try more dishes.

I stopped by with my parents on a Wednesday and we arrived just after 11am but restaurant opens at 11:30 so we wanted in a queue. Inside is roomy, fairly updated, and clean. Attentive service and friendly staff. We ordered 3 dishes and liked it all. They used fresh ingredients, do not over season, and decent serving size for the price. We also noticed on their menu a banquet menu which we plan to reserve for our next larger gathering since they also have private dining rooms. Overall, I understand why there is a wait on a weekday. It's a good value!
We came for the dinner special, which is an incredible value at $13.99 and comes with generous portions. We ordered the Shanghai-style Sweet and Sour Pork, Kung Pao Chicken, Sliced Beef with Onions, Steamed Greenland Halibut, Braised Pork Belly in Brown Sauce, and Stir-Fried Clams with Black Bean Sauce. The portions were large, making it easy to share family-style. The Shanghai-style sweet and sour pork had a nice balance of sweet and tangy flavors. The Kung Pao chicken offered just the right amount of spice. The sliced beef with onions was tender and flavorful. I went with a small group of three, and I gave the restaurant a call when they opened at 11:30 to see if we could join the waitlist. The lady mentioned that the wait is around 30 minutes, but if we're comfortable sharing tables, there's no wait at all. I wanted to be on the waitlist because I wasn't too keen on sharing tables. She agreed and took my name and number. I received a text shortly after, so I kept my phone and notifications on. I spent nearly an hour outside, keeping an eye on my phone to see the status of our table in my phone. Then, I headed inside to find out how long it would take to get seated. Turns out, I needed to check in first so they could add me to the waitlist. I spoke to the lady who took my information down over the phone, know that they hadn't mentioned I needed to check in to be on the waitlist. She explained that they usually don't take our information over the phone and put us on the waitlist. So, I need to check in to be on their waitlist. She didn't apologize, but she kept saying that they don't know if customers will show up, so they can't put us on the waitlist. However, she did say she'd seat us next. I only got to taste a little of each dish, and they were good. But I lost my appetite because I drove 55 minutes just to try their food, and I had some really bad customer service right away in the morning. My friends also enjoyed the food, but did not have big of an appetite by the time we got seated. They were swamped, so no one followed up with us after they served our dishes. The group of eight ladies next to us seemed to get more attention. I know they're super busy, though. I'd suggest checking out the food there! Portions were huge! Price is phenomenal. Flavor is 8/10. We ordered and got our food within 5 mins. It was faster than In n Out. We came in a party of three and got the Hong Shao Rou (Braised Pork), Braised Claypot Noodle, Luffa with Clams, Shanghai Noodle and Hunan Pork. Everything tasted great except for the Luffa with Clams and Shanghai Noodle. read more

I stopped by with my parents on a Wednesday and we arrived just after 11am but restaurant opens at 11:30 so we wanted in a queue. Inside is roomy, fairly updated, and clean. Attentive service and friendly staff. We ordered 3 dishes and liked it all. They used fresh ingredients, do not over season, and decent serving size for the price. We also noticed on their menu a banquet menu which we plan to reserve for our next larger gathering since they also have private dining rooms. Overall, I understand why there is a wait on a weekday. Delicious Chinese home-style dishes at amazing prices. You can get whole steamed fish and other common family dishes starting at $12. The food is delicious and always fresh because turnover is high and most things are made to order. The parking is plentiful as it is in a big plaza but you may not end up parking close to the restaurant. Came here to celebrate the hubby birthday with friends. Yes, another birthday dinner for him. We were seated at a small room to the side. The interiors are not bad for a strip mall. They made an effort to do something and bit make it plain. The service is attentive and friendly. Food came out fairly quickly and there was a lot of food for the 7 of us . The food is good, some nice comfort food thought it was missing the heat of the wok. No one dish stood out. But no dish was bad. Surprising my the one dish I didn't think I would like, fish soup, ended up being one of my favorites of the evening. If you are in SGV and don't mind a little waiting for your lunch or dinner, this place is solid! $11.99 tasty lunch plates, many good dishes. During lunch, if there is 2-3 peeps in your party and you don't mind sharing big round table with strangers it's pretty quick. Otherwise, it might be 45minutes to an hour to wait. They're open daily (except Tuesday) at 11:30am-2:15pm then reopens 5pm-9:15pm They are very popular so I arrived 30 min before their opening time and still had to wait in line! You really get the bang for your buck here! There is a good selection of dishes for $11.99 and it's available lunch and dinner! It also comes with complimentary tea, white rice, miso soup, and edamame! What a deal! Inside is very spacious with plenty of seating but service definitely can use some improvement! Once seated, there is pretty much zero service. I understand it's very busy but it doesn't seem like they're understaffed. Steam Greenland Hailbut was incredible! It was not too fishy or greasy! I really enjoyed that it wasn't too salty and not too much bones! I was impressed by the big portion and how flavorful it was so this was 9/10! Stir Fried Pork Belly was amazing! It was slightly salty but the sauce was the highlight of this dish! It was a mix of sweet and salty! It even with an egg that was marinated so well! Very popular and crowded Chinese/Shanghainese restaurant. The special lunch and dinner prices here can't be beat for an select number of dishes. Specials come with soup, edamame and rice and have a home-cooked feel and taste to them. There is often a wait but small parties can be seated more quickly if you're willing to share a large table which is common in Asia. Sharp, busy waitstaff serve dishes quickly. read more
It has become my go to place now every time when I visit the SGV. Food were very delicious and authentic. Services were great. They kept on checking on you and see whether plates need to be replaced or taken away. Just be prepared there might be long wait to get in. read more

Mostly for takeout and have eaten indoors before but this review is takeout. Definitely call early to make order. We had the combination dining order and it came with 12 dishes. Portions were just alright sized. I think it's better we ate in person for portion control. Overall they made the food ready and had utensils available as requested. Ambiance : Area is quite small and definitely got to barge into the front to get the host attention to pick up your food. Definitely know it's popping with so many people waiting around. Next time sit and book a table in advance for some good dining. read more

I can't sing the praises of this place enough. If not the flavors of all the dishes we've ordered so far, the lunch AND dinner special prices will keep me coming back especially in this economy. As an added touch, rice, a side of miso soup and tea was included with our meal. My standout dishes so far have been the tofu, wok fried veggies, red braised pork and the scallion oil noodles. Prepare for a LONG wait however, but I will say it is definitely worth every minute. It also depends on the day so wait times will vary. That being said I've gone twice already in two months and plan to go back a few more times just because there's so much to continue to try. read more

We went in for lunch and waited about 30 mins and were able to get their lunch special which is $11.99! Great deal for the flavor and amount of food, we had 6 people and it was plenty for us. The food came out fast and the flavors were bold and on point. We love going to this place, they have authentic food and their lunch special makes it worth it. The vegetables had enough salt and "wok hay", the salt & pepper shrimp was fried perfectly and wasn't too salty or spicy. The boiled fish is really spicy and has that numbing feeling but we loved the steamed tilapia! Sweet & sour pork was also good and not too vinegary. Boiled chicken was moist and the soy sauce they give is a nice addition. The miso soup is also complimentary! It's a pretty spacious restaurant with private rooms as well! This is a super popular spot in the SGV for some classic Chinese restaurant food. It's tucked away in what used to be the big Kmart plaza so ample parking and easy to get to. It's a pretty casual spot with long waits. I suggest you call ahead and try and get on their waitlist or you can just wait and hang out with your party as there's still some shops/grocery stores around to walk around in. Food wise, they have the benefit of having a lot of dishs for $12, which in this day and age is seemingly unheard of. My family ordered quite a few dishes amongst the five of us and had plenty of leftovers and left with full tummies. The food itself was pretty good with a mix of Canto and Szechuan dishes. I really liked the braised red pork and the szechuan boiled fish (tastes much better than it sounds). I do agree with some of the other reviews that the stir fried squid dish was mostly onions and not very much squid but the flavors were still good. Overall, this seems like a popular place because it has a lot of cheap options that are tasty. Nothing I had was mind blowing but the combo of options, cost, and portions makes this a spot to return to. The only downside is the wait but even that can be worked around. read more

It comes with rice, miso soup, and edamame. 1) Steamed Tilapia: Rarely see tilapia for $11.99. All the ingredients (soy sauce & scallions) meshed well with the dish. 2) Pork Belly: Mmmm... Very good, but not great to eat all the time. Loved the sauce and the fatty skin. Very hearty. I came here with reservation for 10 people on a Sunday night and there was a line out the door before they opened for dinner time at 5pm. People love this place because the lunch prices are the same as dinner prices and consistent at $11.99 per dish. My family opted for the 10 person meal at $388 (with tax and tip, we paid about $500) and there was such a great variety of dishes! Pro tip: don't get full off the first few dishes because if you wait a bit after the 6-7th plate of food, the dishes and options get better! I made the mistake of filling up on the first few dishes because I came so hungry but really missed out towards the end and didn't get to try a lot of the remaining foods. I believe the meal itself comes with 14 different entres. My ultimate favorite was the dessert which is glutinous rice balls and some sort of sticky rice that I have never eaten before. Overall great experience for large parties. Some dishes were just too oily for my taste while others were perfect! For lunch review, always busy. Make sure to check in waiting list when you arrive. Seaweed fried fish is great. Sweet & sour pork ribs, pork belly are great. Mapou tofu is oily but has the kick of spice and numb so it is great with white rice. Lobster is okay. Service is average and not bad. Utensils are clean and decor is great. Good for family gatherings but not for date night. Tip - check the menu while waiting, waiter will come to you and ask if you're ready to order once you seated. Lol. Lots of parking spots. read more

We were back to this restaurant for its dinner special and the food were delicious. We ordered off from their dinner special and all of the dishes tasted delicious. Beautifully designed place with a few private rooms and cheap classic Chinese food. I came here with my family and ordered a variety of dishes. Because we sat at 8 and they close at 9 we were slightly rushed to order. I didn't mind that too much because once we finished they didn't try to rush us to leave the place after as well. The food is classic Chinese dishes. A lot of the prices are really good noting the $11.99 dishes for both lunch and dinner. They will also serve free soup if you don't order one which I thought was a nice touch. From that menu I got the below: Stir fried string bean Very crispy! I thought this was very well made and had the perfect amount of seasoning. I've been to some places where it can be a little limp but because it was so crispy I could tell it was well made and fresh. Would recommend this dish if you want some vegetables. Pepper salt fried squid Honestly I didn't taste much of the pepper salt seasoning, but I still enjoyed this dish. It was very crispy and well made. Braised pork in brown sauce Very traditional and classic dish. I enjoyed this. The pork was definitely very fatty. I could tell the flavors were simmer for a while with how rich the pork was. I enjoyed adding the sauce to my rice. Stir fry shrimp This dish was one of the more disappointing dishes. The shrimp were pretty small. I didn't understand why they gave a small cup of vinegar on the side though. Didn't really fully understand the flavor they were trying to go for here. Shanghai rice cake There was a certain wok hei flavor in this so I enjoyed this dish. The rice cakes tasted fresh and were very chewy. Braised vermicelli in pot This dish was sooo much, especially being on the $11.99 menu. I do think it was very carb heavy though because it was 95% noodles. Flavors were okay it felt like they were trying to drown it in dark soy sauce. Good for the value though. read more

My second time dining here at Red 99 Grill Bistro, we came on a Friday night. We arrived at 7:30 pm, and the wait time was 40 minutes for a table for two. We ordered the Hunan style fried pork, the steamed Greenland Halibut, and the Shanghai style sweet and sour pork ribs. The Hunan style fried pork is so delicious that we had to order it again this time around! A little spicy, as the green stuff is sliced jalapeños or some kind of green chilis. This dish is quite tasty and garlicky, while the savory black beans add a really good flavor. 9 out of 10, as I highly recommend this dish. I would come back just for this dish. The halibut is truly soft and buttery, and it really does taste amazing over rice. The simple sauce is perfectly seasoned. However, it can definitely use some extra scallions since they truly complement the halibut. Not boneless, so be extra careful with the bones. It's absolutely best to eat this fish while it's still hot, so don't let it go cold. 8 out of 10. The Shanghai style sweet and sour pork ribs are just average. The sauce is nice and sweet, but a little too sour/tangy for me. 7 out of 10 as the pork ribs could've been fried more crispy. They taste a little bit like fast food quality. The restaurant offers 27 kinds of Lunch/Dinner Special dishes to choose from at $11.99 per dish. I must say they do give very generous servings at this price tag, as the two of us couldn't finish everything. The rice and tea were provided at no extra charge. We ended up taking some leftovers home, but we did finish all the fish. Perhaps I'll throw the pork ribs into the air fryer to make them crispy?? read more

Food was pretty perfect: - Nothing was too salty or oily (except the water boiled fish, which is meant to be so) - Flavors were on point. Even the basic egg & tomato dish felt like such a great choice of a dish to order. I usually slightly dislike A 菜/Vegetable, but they cooked this so well, I had no complaints. - We also ordered stir fried pork & bamboo shoots and loofah w/ clams. Texture was great; the sigua/loofah pieces had just the right amount of 翠/'crisp'ness. While the wait to get seated was long (we went on Mother's Day; kudos to the host who remained calm even w/ frazzled customers coming at him from all directions), service once we were seated was fast and attentive (e.g. our teapot was refilled frequently). Lunch special prices are excellent for what you get (and the starting miso soup, large pot of rice, fresh edamame, and fragrant tea are complimentary!). Even the furnishings were nice, and that's last in my list of what I care about at a Chinese restaurant. Would come back in a heartbeat. read more

Yes, you can order to go for the same price as dine in. I ordered twice and the foods don't taste as good as when you have them cooked and straight out of kitchen.
