6/29/26 They definitely dropped the ball today! It was embarrassing because I brought a couple of dear friends who are Fellow Yelp Elites and the reception today made me rethink & EDIT my review. The dim sum experience was average with the exception of the Chinese broccoli that was served cold. Usually they offer to warm it up but not today. I can let this go because I could've insisted. After our dim sum was served, I wanted to share the noodles that I ordered on a previous visit. I called the waiter & he took the order for #4 Fried Rice noodle, he repeated the order to me & then we waited. I told my friends, "don't worry, it'll be quick". Unfortunately we waited a while. We called the waiter again & inquired about our noodle order. He was taken aback in surprise. "Oh I'm sorry, I forgot, you should've reminded me". Oh boy, did he really just blame us for not reminding him about our order? This left a bad taste in my mouth. I really should've canceled it but decided to move forward. When we received our noodle order, it was downhill from there. As if we were forgotten. He returned when we finished eating the noodles and asked we needed a to go container. We all said "Yes". He forgot again. I went ahead & got up to get containers & plastic bags as one of the staff watched me do so. My Fellow Yelp Elites said they are leaving 1-2 star reviews, I cannot blame them. I've been to a capital seafood restaurant before in Arcadia and thought it was absolutely incredible, so I was pleasantly surprised to find out there was also one nearby when I was near Monterey Park! It was a completely different experience -- food is served via carts which I'd never experienced before but found really enjoyable. i've been here many times for dim sum, but didn't know that they can create some private banquet rooms for you in the back. I was here recently for a lunchtime banquet while they were still having dim sum in the front. They have movable walls that they put up that they can partition an area so you can have a private banquet room. One of the last surviving dim sum palaces. Place was crowded on a Sunday afternoon. Arrived at noon, but able to get a table ... due to the adjustable open seating arrangement....and turnover quick. . Rolling cart service... with friendly efficiency from the women pushing the carts...wide variety available...many same items with choices of meat....shrimp, beef, bbq pork, chicken fillings......things meant to be hot were hot, fried things were crunchy and not greasy.. Things that were delicious: The pineapple bun with the custard filling. 5/5 The beefball, well formed, with the nicest visible chunks of water chestnuts and strong cilantro flavor...usually this meat dish has a hint of orange rind, which I don't like...so I was happy the meatball was more cilantro forward. 5/5 The long rice noodle with beef...also we had the the same with bbq pork were delish. 5/5 for all three...as we also had the shrimp one, my party ate it all up first. I didn't eat the chicken feet, but it was enjoyed by all. The siu mai were large and made with shrimp, which I can't eat, but our party of 6 enjoyed. The platterful of soy chicken was enjoyed by all, just beware the chicken head will be included if you are squeamish. The soy chicken feet, also seemed to please. No one rushed us out even though the dim sum service was over by 3 pm. We had a leisurely meal and waiters made sure to come by and refill our tea kettles. I really enjoyed Capital Seafood today. About 10 years ago, I had a bad experience with takeout roasted duck, so I avoided coming back, but things change for the better.....food was great...and clearly a lot of diners packed thr place and were smiling and laughing as they dined.... I even enjoyed watching the staff change the dining room to accommodate a large banquet later this evening, which included the assembly of a large stage/dais. Was here for a 100-day baby celebration. The party had ten tables set up, and each table had a ten course baby set for $548+ per table of ten. It was too much food! Once we were all settled the food came pretty fast and dishes were cleared to keep more dishes coming. We all liked the variety of seafood dishes and crispy duck. First time trying their dinner in here, really love this restaurant serving dim-sum carts before 3pm during the day. It was quite empty on a weekday dinner, no reservations needed. We ordered the salt and pepper squid, and the Hong Kong style pan fried noodle (with seafood). Portions are decently large, and dishes in here are quite affordable given its huge portion as long as you're not ordering fresh seafood. You don't really see the crispy noodle dish in most Chinese restaurants, and I think it's done decently. I'd give it a 7/10, I'd prefer it to be even more crispier. It's very flavourful. Salt and pepper squid is alright, not bad. *I somehow think that I have to wait until I try their classic Hong Kong dishes in pork/ beef to give it a fair judgment Service is quite decent for what it is, nothing to complain. Capitol Seafood in Monterey Park definitely feels like a legit dim sum destination. You know a place is good when the dining room is packed and almost everyone inside is Chinese--and nobody seems too worried about the "B" rating posted on the window. You might have to be a little proactive if you're trying to grab specific dishes. The dim sum itself is solid. Prices are a bit higher than some other spots in the area, but the portions are noticeably larger, which helps justify it. One thing to note is that the dim sum menu is more limited on weekdays. That was a little disappointing, but most of the popular staples are still available, so you won't leave without getting the classics. Unfortunately, I found a small piece of foil or metal in my cucumber salad, which was pretty concerning and definitely took away from the overall experience. Note this review is only for dinner and we came during a very busy weekend leading up to the Lunar New Year, so perhaps unusually short-staffed. That being said, the service was very nice and most of my three stars goes to the staff for hanging on a very busy Sunday night. It really was the food where I took off stars for... again I'm not sure if it's just because the kitchen was overwhelmed with orders but food was slow to come out and every dish was pretty much quickly thrown together, as proven by the fried rice which lacked any sort of wok breath. The seasoning also left plenty to be desired, as unlike the typical Cantonese style seafood I'm used to, it seems like the items such as the lobster were either very bland or were covered in a ton of black pepper but again lacked wok breath. The dessert was more redeeming, with the soups served at the end being very flavorful like the almond milk soup. Nice and warm for a cold night. read more

I was a little skeptical after reading the Yelp reviews, but then I remembered it's a dim sum restaurant and those tend to have lower ratings for some reason. I'm really glad I still decided to try it because this place truly amazed me with its wonderful flavors and nostalgic dishes. Service was swift and professional. The host greeted us warmly and seated us within a few minutes of arriving. I came on a weekday, so there was no wait at all. I really enjoyed the siu mai and the coconut bun for dessert. The sticky rice wrapped in a large leaf, also known as lo mai gai, was delicious and packed with a variety of flavorful ingredients. It's definitely something you have to try for yourself. The only downside for me was the taro cake, which was served cold. I wouldn't recommend ordering that dish, but everything else we had was delicious. They offer both big and small tables, so they can accommodate small groups as well as larger parties. Parking is limited, but there is a fairly large shared lot with the grocery market and nearby stores. They accept Apple Pay, card, and cash, which is convenient. This classic is still serving up traditional dim sum with aunties pushing the carts with delectable morsels. This is a great no frills dim sum place in the SGV. When I went in the morning, they had the dim sum carts being pushed around with all of your typical dim sum options. The quality is above average from other dim sum options I've had in the area. The price is also very comparable with your expectations (I think we got like 14 items for $80? Something like that). I came here on a Sunday around 11:30 AM and didn't have to wait for a table of 10! The dim sum here is served via the carts, which is cool since there is slowly becoming less of that service. However, you could also ask the server if you want your noodles/fried rice, special lunch dishes, etc. Dim sum here in general was good, and they pretty much had everything, from the shrimp dumplings, baos, rice rolls, to pork blood cubes. It was kind of weird to not seeing a cart serving the mango or sesame pudding, but wasn't a big deal to me. My favorite here would probably be the taro dumplings, and my least favorite here would be egg tart. The egg tart was decent, but it lacked the buttery taste that I get from say Jim's Bakery, Kee Wah, or NBC restaurant. I did not eat the salted egg yolk bun, but my friends said that was their favorite bun dish. We ordered a lot of dishes too and it came out to be $25 per person, which is not bad at all! Usually at other places like Lunasia or NBC, it would come out to be like $35-40 per person nowadays, which is more expensive than I think it should be. Service here was pretty standard Cantonese service, and the auntie host was pretty nice, and helped our group take a photo at the end of our dim sum lunch. Place was pretty clean as well. I think Capital Seafood is one of the better dim sum restaurants in the SGV area and is worth the try. read more

I asked to get two more to take home and a gentlemen said there were no more and they were making some which was a 30 min wait... couple mins later a cart came and they had some on it... good thing we were still there. Capital Seafood is definitely a hole-in-the wall spot but is great place to visit if you want authentic dim sum! Our group of 3 was able to be seated right away on a Saturday morning around 11 AM. All of the servers were very friendly and as they walked by with their carts, they asked if we were interested in any of the dishes they had. My friends and I tried the Siu Mai, Har Gao, Har Cheung Fun, Xiao Long Bao, and Daan Taat (egg tart). Everything was very delicious and we had no complaints. 10/10! read more

While it was busy, the wait for 5 was only about 10-15 minutes max and they seemed to be turning around tables quickly. They had the traditional carts dim sum and they came around quite fast and frequent. It was all very good quality. I will say, the prepared foods that were covered in plastic wrap were pretty lukewarm and didn't seem as fresh, but they were quite flavorful. Most of the cart ladies were wonderful and make it very pleasant. Parking is fairly easy in the shared shopping center lot. It's not the absolute best dim sum, but it is very solid! This is a legit dim sum place with the carts. Their sui mai, haw gao, and pork ribs were my favorites. The pork ribs were the best I've ever had because it actually had meat on the ribs. When you walk into Capital Seafood you'll notice that this restaurant's patron are mostly elderly retired Chinese patrons. Not very many families, lots of groups of elderly Chinese patrons who come for "yum cha." Their selections are good and wide ranging for only have 3 carts out at one time. The thing I would skip here is the Har Gow. Their har gow wrapper is very thick, but if that's your jam then be my guest, I'm consistently disappointed by it every time I get it. Their shumai is very descent, and it's huge! Service is a hit or miss depending on where you sit. Some of the male servers are very attentive, some you can tell are just cruising through their job but when I come to a Chinese restaurant I don't have high expectations so I don't use this as a measurement of whether I will return. We've even celebrated our friend's birthday here and they were very kind enough to light our cake for us. They are very accommodating to a degree and we come here very often. read more

My family and I come here for family dinner at least once a month. The food here is solid. There is plenty of seating. If you come on the weekends sometime, the restaurant will be hosting wedding parties in the main dining area. They have private dining rooms in the back of the restaurant available if you choose. The service has always been good. The servers do a good job of managing the dishes on the lazy Susan during your dining experience. Stopped by during the weekdays for lunch. The service wasn't as good that day. There were only a couple of dim sum push carts. We had to keep flagging down servers to get us water, napkins, and sauces. Also had to keep waiting for the dim sum push carts to stop by our table. Felt like a completely different experience than the weekends. It's not as busy, but service could've been a lot better. Staff were not as attentive and a bit rude. However, we're still going to give this place another try. It's still better than NBC seafood and Top Island seafood. The cost for each dim sum dish wasn't too pricey either. read more
