i've been here many times for dim sum, but didn't know that they can create some private banquet rooms for you in the back. I was here recently for a lunchtime banquet while they were still having dim sum in the front. They have movable walls that they put up that they can partition an area so you can have a private banquet room. The service was excellent and quick for all the tables as well as the food was delicious.

    Everyone enjoyed this.

One of the last surviving dim sum palaces. Place was crowded on a Sunday afternoon. Arrived at noon, but able to get a table ... due to the adjustable open seating arrangement....and turnover quick. . Rolling cart service... with friendly efficiency from the women pushing the carts...wide variety available...many same items with choices of meat....shrimp, beef, bbq pork, chicken fillings......things meant to be hot were hot, fried things were crunchy and not greasy.. Things that were delicious: The pineapple bun with the custard filling. 5/5 The beefball, well formed, with the nicest visible chunks of water chestnuts and strong cilantro flavor...usually this meat dish has a hint of orange rind, which I don't like...so I was happy the meatball was more cilantro forward. 5/5 The long rice noodle with beef...also we had the the same with bbq pork were delish. 5/5 for all three...as we also had the shrimp one, my party ate it all up first. I didn't eat the chicken feet, but it was enjoyed by all. The siu mai were large and made with shrimp, which I can't eat, but our party of 6 enjoyed. The platterful of soy chicken was enjoyed by all, just beware the chicken head will be included if you are squeamish. The soy chicken feet, also seemed to please. No one rushed us out even though the dim sum service was over by 3 pm. We had a leisurely meal and waiters made sure to come by and refill our tea kettles. I really enjoyed Capital Seafood today. About 10 years ago, I had a bad experience with takeout roasted duck, so I avoided coming back, but things change for the better.....food was great...and clearly a lot of diners packed thr place and were smiling and laughing as they dined.... I even enjoyed watching the staff change the dining room to accommodate a large banquet later this evening, which included the assembly of a large stage/dais. Very interesting how the waiters transformed the dining room to accommodate the needs of the banquet to come. Well done staff!!

Was here for a 100-day baby celebration. The party had ten tables set up, and each table had a ten course baby set for $548+ per table of ten. It was too much food! Once we were all settled the food came pretty fast and dishes were cleared to keep more dishes coming. We all liked the variety of seafood dishes and crispy duck. The suckling pig was pretty crispy but bony. Bathrooms could be better.

3.5 stars, chill Chinese restaurant that comes in decent portion and reasonably priced. First time trying their dinner in here, really love this restaurant serving dim-sum carts before 3pm during the day. It was quite empty on a weekday dinner, no reservations needed. We ordered the salt and pepper squid, and the Hong Kong style pan fried noodle (with seafood). Portions are decently large, and dishes in here are quite affordable given its huge portion as long as you're not ordering fresh seafood. You don't really see the crispy noodle dish in most Chinese restaurants, and I think it's done decently. I'd give it a 7/10, I'd prefer it to be even more crispier. It's very flavourful. Salt and pepper squid is alright, not bad. *I somehow think that I have to wait until I try their classic Hong Kong dishes in pork/ beef to give it a fair judgment Service is quite decent for what it is, nothing to complain. Bathrooms are clean, ambience is quite spacious and love the chinese decors. I'm curious to come back to try their trolley dimsum during the day, and also love that they carry Teochew dishes on their menu. Giving it a 3.5/5 because I've had better, but I would say this is a chill spot to be at. I'd be looking forward to their dimsum experience more.

Capitol Seafood in Monterey Park definitely feels like a legit dim sum destination. You know a place is good when the dining room is packed and almost everyone inside is Chinese--and nobody seems too worried about the "B" rating posted on the window. That alone tells you people trust the food. The staff here are very friendly, but when the restaurant gets busy (which it often does), it can be tough to flag down a cart or get a waitstaff member to come by your table. You might have to be a little proactive if you're trying to grab specific dishes. The dim sum itself is solid. Prices are a bit higher than some other spots in the area, but the portions are noticeably larger, which helps justify it. One thing to note is that the dim sum menu is more limited on weekdays. That was a little disappointing, but most of the popular staples are still available, so you won't leave without getting the classics. Unfortunately, I found a small piece of foil or metal in my cucumber salad, which was pretty concerning and definitely took away from the overall experience. Overall, Capitol Seafood still feels like a go-to dim sum spot with big portions and a lively atmosphere, but the service during busy times and the food safety issue I experienced are things the restaurant should really work on.

Note this review is only for dinner and we came during a very busy weekend leading up to the Lunar New Year, so perhaps unusually short-staffed. That being said, the service was very nice and most of my three stars goes to the staff for hanging on a very busy Sunday night. It really was the food where I took off stars for... again I'm not sure if it's just because the kitchen was overwhelmed with orders but food was slow to come out and every dish was pretty much quickly thrown together, as proven by the fried rice which lacked any sort of wok breath. The seasoning also left plenty to be desired, as unlike the typical Cantonese style seafood I'm used to, it seems like the items such as the lobster were either very bland or were covered in a ton of black pepper but again lacked wok breath. The dessert was more redeeming, with the soups served at the end being very flavorful like the almond milk soup. Nice and warm for a cold night.

I was a little skeptical after reading the Yelp reviews, but then I remembered it's a dim sum restaurant and those tend to have lower ratings for some reason. I'm really glad I still decided to try it because this place truly amazed me with its wonderful flavors and nostalgic dishes. Service was swift and professional. The host greeted us warmly and seated us within a few minutes of arriving. I came on a weekday, so there was no wait at all. I really enjoyed the siu mai and the coconut bun for dessert. The sticky rice wrapped in a large leaf, also known as lo mai gai, was delicious and packed with a variety of flavorful ingredients. It's definitely something you have to try for yourself. The only downside for me was the taro cake, which was served cold. I wouldn't recommend ordering that dish, but everything else we had was delicious. They offer both big and small tables, so they can accommodate small groups as well as larger parties. Parking is limited, but there is a fairly large shared lot with the grocery market and nearby stores. They accept Apple Pay, card, and cash, which is convenient. This is easily in my top three dim sum spots in the area now.

I attended the Vietnamese Employees Association of Los Angeles County (VEALAC) at Capital Seafood Restaurant in Monterey Park. A great event to celebrate the Tet New Year of the Horse. Good food and entertainment of singers and a fashion show. Rating: 3 1/2 stars.

Large banquet-style Cantonese restaurants have become few, and especially those with a long history. This classic is still serving up traditional dim sum with aunties pushing the carts with delectable morsels. Capitol Seafood even does the turnip cakes right, but heats them on the cart right before plating. Many of the dim sum staples are also sized generously. Many of the four-count is a good value these days compared to other places. The Hai Gow and similar rice-wrapped items may lack some delicate thin layers, but they are completely acceptable. Dinner service is your standard banquet setup with entrees served family style. Seafood is one of the key selections on their menu. Fresh seafood items are market price. Lobsters, crabs, snow crabs, prawns, fish, and sometimes King Crabs are well displayed in their show tanks. Rice dishes, vegetables, stir-frys, chicken, beef, and pork dishes are also exemplary with Cantonese flair.

Solid 4 stars. This is my go-to when I want classic SGV dim sum without it being a total hit-or-miss. The Har Gow and rice noodle are always consistent--fresh and not just all filler. The steamed sausage buns are a must-order; I also like the almost drink and that sugary crust is addictive. It's definitely loud and chaotic inside, but that's how you know the food is actually good. Service is typically fast and direct.

Last review of 2025... Came here for the banquet dinner as part of a private event. Sadly, the food was just okay. Nothing stood out flavor wise maybe except that the fried fish had a lot of fish bones makiyit hard to eat. I sure hope the dim sum during the day is much better. Sadly, they also have a B rating at the moment. Check out my pics. I didn't order the food and thus I'm not 100% sure of the names...

This is a great no frills dim sum place in the SGV. When I went in the morning, they had the dim sum carts being pushed around with all of your typical dim sum options. The quality is above average from other dim sum options I've had in the area. The price is also very comparable with your expectations (I think we got like 14 items for $80? Something like that). The service is also brutally honest, which I do appreciate during my dim sum experience. Will have to come back next time I'm around! *note: there is no phone signal inside of this place. Large restaurant, good service, good food. Haven't come here in a few years, but after waiting at another seeing that other spots were busy, we decided to come here again. We came here during dinner on Mother's Day with a party of 9. Got seated immediately, and service was prompt. Portions were good too (definitely bigger than nearby places), and food was pretty good- highly recommend stopping by here!

That said, the experience before and during the meal was a bit frustrating. When we called in speaking English, the person who answered gave us a lot of rules for a large party. However, when our parents called back and spoke in their native language, they were able to accommodate the large party without any minimum spend . During the meal, when we asked our waitress if we had ordered enough, she encouraged us to add significantly more food. I understand it can be hard to estimate for a big party, but we ended up with so many leftovers that it probably could have fed a party of 20 people. The service was okay overall, but there were a few frustrating moments. For example, when we asked for iced tea, she said they didn't have it. I had to specifically ask for hot tea with a cup of ice, which worked fine, but it would have been nice if she had suggested that option. First, parking was so difficult!! So many cars crammed close to each other and the restaurant wasn't even full, but we parked in the street nearby. The place had plenty of seating when we arrived, spacious tables that fit our group of 16. We had a large party and split into two tables, each table had peanuts and tea, we also ordered our own bit with the same serve at the same time. We ordered our usual dishes such as corn soup, honey walnut shrimp, salt and pepper squid, sal and pepper pork chops, filet beef dish, hainan chicken and many more. The service seemed slow, the bad part is that our other table got all their dishes while we had none. It took a while before our first dish arrived which was honey walnut shrimp, it was good, a bit soggy but flavorful. We asked for rice and started eating, once most of the shrimp was gone the rest of the dishes came. They were delicious, they tasted great and had good portions. The pork chop was great fresh but soon started to get tough as it cooled. The fried squid had parts that were very seasoned and some bland. My sister in law ordered a seafood tofu dish that was the best one but we ate everything before I took a photo. We also shared dishes across the tables to try out our orders. I tried the fried crab but it had more garlic than crab! The restroom was the sad part, there was no toilet paper, and no paper towels. The women's restroom door was propped wide open as well. I had to call my sister to bring in napkins for me... Overall a great meal, we may come back if the occasion allows.

The menu offers a wide variety of traditional Hong Kong cafe favorites, making it easy to find something for everyone. Portions were generous, and the food arrived quickly. The Deep Fried Cornish Hen and French Toast stood out the most during our visit. The French Toast was served with ice cream and made a nice dessert to finish the meal. The atmosphere feels like a traditional neighborhood Hong Kong cafe, with a casual setting and TVs showing sports games. It's a comfortable place for a family meal, dinner with friends, or late-night cravings. Service was friendly, and staff checked in regularly throughout the meal. Overall, a solid spot if you're looking for classic Hong Kong-style comfort food in the Monterey Park area.

It's pretty good here and they have complimentary refills! They're known for their rice noodle rolls here and you can order them, along with their small dim sum menu, all day long. The wonton noodles here were just $13.98! They come with 5 large wontons and vegetables over wonton noodles. I always recommend adding chili oil. The steamed spareribs on steamed rice have some bones, just like the ones you find at dim sum. But there's a lot of meat in the steamed rice bowl for a single person. Free parking in rear parking lot. Entrance at the front on Garvey Ave. They have 2 entrances in front now. Left door for to-go orders and right door for dine-in.

The staff are great, communication wise, it was a good service. They don't hover around your table. They let you eat in peace then check back every now and then. We ordered several dishes and each and every one of them were tasty. We came before lunch hour so not sure how busy this place gets. Are we going back? Absolutely! This is on my list to go especially for a weekend out.
