I heard about their $19.99 AYCE deal online, so I went here with my parents to check it out! We came on a Saturday afternoon, and upon entering, it wasn't too crowded. Since it was our first time here, our server guided us on what to do: you grab a small pot, fill it up with your desired meats, veggies, and other toppings, pick a broth of your choice, and they will cook it for you and bring it to your table. Then, when you're finished with your meal but want more, you repeat the same process. Basically, it's malatang but AYCE! They also have a sauce bar, a hot food bar, and free drinks included! After we finished filling up our pots and picked our broths, we waited around 10 mins for it to come out. In the meantime, we tried their hot food bar. Some things we tried were the popcorn chicken, mapo tofu, and dumplings. We just thought it was okay. I recommend not filling up on them. Also, the drinks they had were grape, mango, and strawberry juice, and we liked all of them! The broths we tried were the bone broth, tom yum, and tomato. All of them were tasty and flavorful! It's time for an updated review, since they changed to an AYCE malatang place. There are no more menus. The interior still looks very familiar with the lanterns hanging overhead. Now, an entire wall is dedicated to ingredients you can pick for your pot There are many items to choose from, but mostly veggies, seafood balls, but not so much in the meat section. There's even an area for hot prepared foods and the sauce section is pretty extensive. How: Grab a bowl and a set of tongs pick out all the ingredients you want, go back to your table. A server will come by and ask you what type of broth you want and they'll take your bowl to the kitchen and cook everything for you. Minutes later a hot pot of food comes back to your table. Since this is AYCE, you can always go back for more. For me one pot with plenty. The only drawback is since they're cooking the meat for you. You can't control how well done it's cooked. Truly, you're better off making hot pot at home, or going elsewhere and ordering a solid plate of food for $20+ than spending it on AYCE here. The food: Frankly, I'm not sure what these recent reviewers are raving about, but it was surely mediocre at best. The restaurant is set up as a self service hot pot bar where you pick up hot pot ingredients using tongs into a pot mix your own sauces at the sauce bar. At the very end, there are some ready-to-eat hot foods. I've been to other hot pot restaurants with a similar concept but each place I've been to had more plentiful toppings. There's only two non-spicy soup bases (tomato and pork broth), so if that's not up your alley, then you might be out of luck here. None of the hot foods were labeled, so if you have dietary restrictions or allergies, this would not be the place for you. Also, their vegetables such as Bok Choy had dirt on their stems (fun times). I ordered the tomato broth with water as a soup base (vegetarian), but somehow my soup tasted weirdly sweet and murky. Considering tomato is usually the only vegan soup base option at most hot pot places, let's just say this was the worst I had by far. If you're also vegetarian, the meat is placed at the same area of the vegetables so there's a lot of cross contamination of ingredients. The rest of my party: "It's so salty!" "The only thing decent here is the fried rice." The service: Since we have food restrictions, we make the habit of calling restaurants ahead of time to verify that vegan options exist, especially when the menu isn't explicitly well labeled. Over the phone, we were repeatedly reassured that there will be a soup base for us, but when we got there, our waiter could not understand that bone broth would inherently make a soup base not vegan. After several minutes of back and forth and putting up with her rude attitude, she finally calls over another staff and we resolve the issue. If you're guaranteeing that there's vegan options over the phone, then your staff better be educated on it. When we walked in the owners asked if it was our first time, and we confirmed that. However, they barely explained to us the concept of the dining experience, so we did not know there would be a fine for not finishing food based on their instructions. Thankfully, having done our research ahead of time, we informed the rest of our party. While this is AYCE hot pot, it takes 15-20 minutes for them to get your pot cooked, so you spend most of the time dining here waiting, particularly if you want a second pot. Other restaurants with similar concepts but sell by weight use bigger bowls, so you don't spend all this time waiting for the food to be ready. We came to " Mebo Hotpot" in Temple City for a weekday lunch last week and was surprised to find out they've officially switched over to an All-You-Can-Eat (AYCE) format! The best part? Lunch runs from opening all the way until 5:00 PM for just $19.99. The process here is a little different than your typical hot pot spot. As soon as you walk in, the staff tells you to grab whatever ingredients you want from the refrigerated cases and pile them onto your table. This restaurant serves up Beijing style foods with beautiful imperial dynasty-like decor that can be seen as soon as you walk up to the front door. The space inside is a bit small, so tables are limited and fill up fast. Service was fairly good. The waitress ladies were so nice and tried to get us the best deals (ie. if you order $75 worth of food, you can get the wooden barrel dish for 1/2 price). They also threw in for us a free dish of the shredded pork spring rolls. It's definitely easier to communicate with them in Mandarin. You can tell they take pride in their food. At one point during our dining, they even recommended/showed us the best way to eat certain dishes to get the most flavor from it. 1. Steamed shrimp-egg custard (5/5) A super light eggy custard that's steamed to perfection. It is topped with a small amount of shrimp, just enough to give it a subtle seafood flavor. The soy-like sauce that's served with it provides a pleasant savoriness that complimented the eggy custard well. It's almost like eating a warm pudding here (in a good way). 2. Chicken with Pork Tripe In Golden Broth (5/5) A super nutritionally-dense soup that's packed with rich chicken broth flavor from the broiling of the chicken for hours on end along with the chicken's natural oil. This is like a mini hot-pot - once the soup base boils, you can add in the yellow-skinned chicken, fish balls, frozen tofu, abalone, veggies, mushrooms and pork tripe. 3. Shredded Pork Spring Rolls with Beijing Sauce (3.5/5) Not the best shredded pork spring roll I've had. The pork was seasoned well in the Beijing sauce, but when we ate it for leftover the next day, the pork meat tasted a bit sour - so questionable freshness here. The thin spring roll wraps came in a steamed basket that was fresh off the steamer, so it was very wet and soggy. Please learn from us ... wait 10-15 minutes for it to air dry out before using it as a wrap. Otherwise, you'll end up with a messy rice dough that can't wrap anything. 4. Garlic A-choy (4/5) The A-choy veggies were steamed/cooked well. It was not stringy. It's coated in a garlic oil sauce. Very garlicky, but minus 1 star because it was a bit too oily 5. Sesame Pancake (4.5/5): This pancake reminds me of those thousand layer pancakes, but in a mini and more compact form. The flavor was nutty, sesame-y and doughy. It's not sweet at all. It can be a bit on the dry side, but goes well with a cup of tea. If you like the nutty sesame flavor, then you will like this. 6. Grilled Beef Ribs (5/5) Super tender beef that's grilled to perfection. It has nicely smoked flavor. The meat itself had a good balance of fat to meat ratio. It is served with a side of cumin sesame powder mix and some garlic sauce that you can dip the meat in. 7. Wooden Barrel Braised Fish Soup (5/5) Another great soup that's packed with hearty flavors. The soup is milky white and has a strong white pepper powder flavor to it. You have the choice of beef or braised fish - we opted for braised fish, which was meaty, yet tender. The fish was fresh and didn't have that stinky seafood smell at all. There was also fish tofu and silk tofu, which absorbed the soup well. Perfect for a cold day. 8. Spring Plain Noodle Soup (4/5) As the name of the dish implies ... this is a plain noodle soup dish that basically has a soup base that's strong in white pepper powder flavor and it's served with a bundle of thin angel hair noodles. 9. Black Pepper Venison (5/5) It's not easy to cook venison meat correctly because the meat tends to be lean, but MeBo Jiao Club nailed it. The meat was super tender and you get that slippery, yet snappiness of venison meat. The black pepper sauce was very peppery and complimented the meat well. I liked the big chunks of grind black pepper, which you can tell was freshly grounded as it gave off a very strong peppery fragrance. $9.99 specials are on point and so worth it. The restaurant is nestled in a corner of the plaza across the street from the teapot plaza. Came here with some girlfriends and we ordered just the specials - the braised pork, whole fish, cabbage with vermicelli and garlic (it's VERY garlicky, so you've been warned! But it's really good), and the shrimp with egg custard. Comes with rice that's included in the price! The space is nice and clean inside. They have a special set of utensils for kids. I only took off one star because they did forget one of our dishes. They were really nice about it otherwise and brought it pretty quickly once we pointed it out. Would definitely come back. Definitely IMO the best deal in SGV for AYCE HOT POT! $19.99 All day to night! The selections lean more meat and seafood than veggies. You get to pick between 6 different soup bases and I picked tom yum. Loved it! You can drink as many sodas as you like. The hot bar is what I am in love with. The fried chicken legs and popcorn chicken so good. Love the fried rice and chow mein. Mapo tofu is spicy and numbing. The soy braised pork belly is sooo yummy along with the soy braised tofu. I know the malatang is supposed to be the star of the AYCE and buffet but the hot bar, I couldn't get enough of. Plus this is a spot I would want to take my kids. They would love it. I don't get how the reviews can be so high for this place. I went when they first opened for a quick lunch by myself. Located in a large corner strip mall in Temple City, parking is easy enough. The place was packed! For a weekday lunch! However, the moment I walked in, I almost walked out. The putrid smell of the restaurant should've told me to get the hell out of Dodge! I only ordered two dishes. The kung pao chicken was the more successful, but was just okay. Nothing memorable. The other dish was a complete fail. It was listed as scrambled egg with scallion but it's a typo - it's peking style pork with pancakes, which I could tell from the pictures. This is a dish I usually really like, but this dish had a horrible, funky, bad flavor. I couldn't eat it after the first bite, so I took it to go and tossed it in the trash outside. I cannot recommend this place at all. Never going back. I also think it is using a new name currently despite being the same place. read more

Came here not knowing what to expect, and honestly left pretty impressed. For $19.99 you get way more than just hot pot, the stir fry section, drinks, and malatang are all included, and everything is unlimited refill. The malatang was actually spicy and flavorful, which I wasn't expecting at this price point. The staff was super attentive. One of the guys walked me through the whole ordering process, which sections to go to, how to pick ingredients, and came back to check on us multiple times. That kind of service is rare. The space is clean and has this old-school Chinese restaurant vibe with the lanterns everywhere. Layout is smart too, easy to navigate between sections. read more

Came here to try their new concept of ayce malatang and the hot foods bar. The waiter explained to get my items for my malatang and let me know where I would be seated. After getting my bowl ready the waiter came and asked which flavor soup I would like it in and took it away to be cooked. The malatang selection has a mediocre variety compared to the places that sell them by weight. The sauce bar was good. As my food was cooking I got items from the hot food station which had 10 items and a few dim sum dishes. There was a nice variety which included popcorn chicken, mapo tofu and etc. As I ate the foods on my plate I realized the stuff was cold. It had flavor but not the right temperature. My malatang is cooked and served to me at the table. One thing I found odd was the soup isn't piping hot like other places I've tried. The food was decent but unfortunately they need to work on having it nice and hot in temperature instead of being warm and cold. Out of everything here I really enjoyed their tea eggs. Because of this and what I saw on the menu I asked my waiter about getting it to go. He informed me I can get a small dish for 5.99 and it could include a couple of the eggs with it. I was done and I guess the waiter that had served me was on break and a Chinese waitress came to take care of our bill. I told her I wanted a small dish to go for 5.99. She then says in Mandarin oh this price doesn't exist and just so you know I don't speak Mandarin but my friend did. She informed my friend that apparently any food to go is 15.99. I'm sorry but it cleary says 5.99 in English on their menu so I'm confused and now I'm annoyed. I saw the guy who as serving us and I told him about what his coworker informed me. She kept telling something in Mandarin and he informed me that it's not the right price. Anyways I had a decent time even though the food was not the right temperature until the end with the rude waitress who didn't speak English but yet would recognize their own menu's pricing. And because of her demeanor I don't ever plan to come back to a place that has a menu that the worker doesn't even acknowledge. So I feel a bit cheated about that. She's basically the reason I'm giving this place a one star. She's rude and won't honor their own damn menu which is crazy to me. read more
