My boyfriend and I went to the bar on Friday the 1st. The ground is covered in turf so you can't see holes or dips and he rolled his ankle. I asked one of the staff for ice because he couldn't walk and we were trying to come up with an action plan on how to get him out of there. Instead of providing ice they sent a female manager over who was apathetic at best and just told us we had to get out and led us out the back door (with me struggling to carry my boyfriend with no help). Turns out his ankle is broken. It was terrible customer service at best and negligence at worst. I'll be making an official complaint. read more

We came here two nights while in San Diego. The first night was a Friday and great. The place was packed! We couldn't order food due to how late it was but we got drinks. The best part about this place was the space. We had a group of like 25 people and we could all hang out and congregate here. This was amazing. There was a line but that's to be expected. One of the bartenders was rude and not personal able which is why a star was knocked off. Additionally the second evening we went here -- a Sunday, it closed earlier and had little to no space for a party of 5 -- nor was the bigger area open. Probably one of the fun things to do at The Gaslight Lamp District! An outdoor and indoor space with games such as jenga, connect 4, cornhole, etc. Before walking in, your ID gets checked then you seat yourself. I love the smiley faces and the bright colors of this place! The outdoor area is a lot of fun if you're with a good group. Kids are allowed only until 7pm. So plan wisely. My party and I were lucky to find a great spot towards the back where we got to play with the jenga blocks, cornhole, beer(?) pong. We ordered some drinks, too. The former Gaslamp Strip Club space in downtown has been turned into Happy Does Bar which is supposed to be a country-inspired American bar and restaurant. While the inside has its own bar and lots of seating, the action seemed to be outside in the courtyard where there were picnic tables with bright yellow umbrellas and lawn games. The menu was very simple with only seven choices (burger, chicken sandwich, chicken tenders, loaded fries, salad, steak fries, wrap). You place an order at one of the bars and then wait for the food to be brought to your table. The first time I stopped by this place, the staff member who was checking IDs before allowing entry said you could order food inside. It turns out she was only partially correct as the kitchen had already closed for the evening. To shut down food service at 8 pm was quite early, and I left disappointed. On a return visit, I picked the Smash Diego Burger and the Steak Fries for my lunch. The former was made up of two smashed six ounce patties, American cheese, pickles, mayo, and mustard on a buttered bun. There was a healthy portion of thick cut fries in the serving basket. The burger was served upside down which made for an unusual presentation. There were crispy edges to the patties which I enjoyed. The $10 price for this 3/4 lb creation was a good value. The steak fries were exactly like anywhere else that serves them so there wasn't much to comment on. A broader menu and longer kitchen hours would be areas that need to improve for me to rate Happy Does Bar with more than three stars. read more

This place is fun if you want to listen to other people sing. Seems like they kept letting the same people sing over and over and not letting anyone new sing. Kinda a bummer if you are new and wanting to to sing Karaoke. Bar food was good. Plenty of staff walking around that kept trying to clean up our drinks before we were finished. read more

This place is an OASIS in the gaslamp area!!! I loooove the outdoor patio... it's got grass and picnic tables and it's such a fun backyard vibe which is impossible to get downtown. They also have a TONN of games & karaoke if you want some enrichment. The staff is so nice and I think about their smashburger & chicken tenders at least 3 times a week. My experience at this establishment was incredibly frustrating. To open a tab at the bar the bartender asked to hold onto my ID and my debit card. Unfortunately, I left without closing my tab. Happy Does isn't opened Monday-Thursday so I wasn't able to retrieve any of my items. When they did reopen the following Friday evening they didn't answer any of my calls or bother returning a call. When I showed up the manager (short guy w long hair and glasses) was beyond rude to me. He informed me he shredded my debit card and dropped off my ID in a USPS box. I asked him if it was policy and he said "If I don't like it take my business elsewhere" so I will. I was so excited about this spot but the staff are rude and inconsiderate. Outdoor area has a lot of lawn games to play such as corn hole, jenga, and connect four. Service was good; the outdoor bartender was very friendly and knowledgeable on drinks. It was hectic out in the streets - much more crowded than I expected - but in the outdoor bar area it was much more serene. My friend and I were walking along the area and happen to see this spot across the street. It was the spur of the moment to check it out and grab at least one drink on this gloomy Sunday. Even though the weather was not nice, the atmosphere was still fun. It had a chill vibe with the outside set up. Definitely with the right weather this area could easily be filled as the drink I got was made well and the music played by a DJ is good. I can't say anything how inside looks as we remained outside the whole time. During the colder days they do turn on heat lamps and fire pits. Pets are allowed in the outside area. I really enjoyed my time here with my group on a Friday night. We came in around 10:30pm and it wasn't overly crowded yet. I think it's cool it has a backyard feel on the outside, some fire pits, corn hole, big Jenga games. We enjoyed more of the inside because they were doing open karaoke and it was fun to sit at a high rise table, grab a drink and listen to all the brave souls singing. My family and I were there today because we wanted to stop for a bit before going to petco park and we were disappointed with the way that the bar tender treated us. We were there today 5/30 at 4:30pm and ordered a drink from the bar located in the back next to the games. A women bartender with brown/dark hair, tall, seemed annoyed for no reason at us and was just rude. First, she helped 2 other women before she helped my husband even though my husband was clearly there before them and had been waiting to order a drink for 15min or more. Second, My husband asked if they could make an aperol spritz and she laughed at my husband and said that's basically champagne (as if we did not know what an aperol spritz is). We found that comment to be extremely rude. Third, when I asked her if she could make a non alcoholic drink she responded with an attitude and said "I guess I can but it's basically just juice or soda" She did not offer me any options or suggestions of any non alcoholic drinks. I understand that it's a bar but I'm currently pregnant and that is why I was asking to see what options they had to offer since most bars have options. I asked again and she said it's just juice or soda. I then got annoyed and ended up not ordering anything because her behavior killed our vibes. I hope this woman gets trained to be welcoming and kind to customers. I don't understand why she treated us that way.
