Service was excellent. The food was average. I had the beef sandwich. Somewhat bland. My wife had the turkey sandwich and she enjoyed it.

Our first time going here. My husband got a Groupon for food from here. We got there and there was no one there. That should have been my first indication something was wrong. I walked in, with my mask on, and the first thing that hits you is the rank smell of rotting crab meat. I couldn't stand it. I had to walk out. Its like they mopped the floor with leftover crab water. It smelled gross. My husband still ended up getting 4 brisket sandwiches with the Groupon while I waited in the car. My wife and I drove through Annapolis on the way to Myrtle Beach just so she could have blue crabs. The well known tourist spots did not take reservations and had waits of over 2 hours. We were picking up a boat near here and had driven by this place several times. We love BBQ and Pit Boys sounds like pit Bbq to us. We ordered a pound and a half of brisket, a large onion rings and a large fries. The large onion ring had 6 rings but at least they tasted good. The fries were under cooked. Worst of all the brisket looked like it had been sliced and boiled. It had no flavor and was stringy. On top of that, it took well over 20 minutes for our food and the restaurant smelled bad. I will never go back here again and don't recommend it. It was awful. I had to make a second dinner. read more

We are from further North so when we stumbled on Pit Boys on a visit this past weekend to Annapolis we were excited that it might be more authentic than what we have in Jersey. WRONG. I've had bad BBQ before, but what we got was just awful. They ribs were clearly sitting around in a warmer for most of the day (days???) and the "brisket" we ordered was nearly entirely fat. Not like regular slices of brisket with more fat than normal. I'm talking almost exclusively fat with only a few small bits of actual brisket. The sauce is bad. The ribs are an embarrassment. I was visiting Annapolis and decided to stop by the Market House to grab a quick bite. It was also extremely hot and humid outside, so figured that this would be a good place to cool down and get a fast bite. This Pit Boys only does seafood. I opted to get the oyster sandwich (about $7). They freshly shucked the oysters, coated them in a dry mix and shoved them into a fry-o-later contraption. After a decent amount of waiting, I got my sandwich and I was super excited to eat it. After all, who doesn't love eating fried oysters? The crisp exterior and the luscious inside filled with that oyster liquor. Well... this sandwich was nothing like that. First, I had asked for lettuce, tomato, mayo, and cocktail sauce. No cocktail sauce was on it, so I just went to put a bit of hot sauce on it. I only received about 4 oysters and they were extremely small and extremely salty. Almost way too salty. I couldn't eat it. It was just too salty. Another customer had also complained that his fried oysters were so salty as well. They had been a bit over fried to some extent; the inside of the oyster, if you could even see it, was hard, not tender and no oyster liquor (totally blame this on their use of a fry-o-later contraption). My kids and I had a great experience yesterday and the food was delicious. This is our new go to spot, and I can't wait to go back. The crabs and mussels were delicious. The ribs were fall off the bone tender! The staff there were very friendly. I've told all my friends and family about this gem, and I cannot wait times go back. Looks like they had a rough start but one of two tables for lunch I felt very nicely treated.The food was great and the onion rings home done were great. The soft crab sandwich was very fresh a little much on bread and light on crab but it was as described and not frittered like the Point Crab House. The meats we had were nice. I'd honestly say 4.5, but there is no 1/2 star option. The Maryland Crab Soup was fantastic, great broth and it had some heat and spice which I like. Tasted like something I'd try to make at home, it's quite good. Had a brisket sandwich and home-made Old Bay Chips and deli-barrel pickles on the side, enough meat for two normal-sized sandwiches. Plenty of condiment choices, horse radish went great with the beef. Great flavor, good texture and juicy. A solid option. My only critique is the menu is extensive and a bit overwhelming but that's a personal preference. I'd definately come back. read more

I got ribs that are the spiciest non gimmick food I've ever ate. They tried to cover it up by dumping a half a bottle of honey in the box. I called and told them but the kids on the phone told me that's how they are supposed to be. I figured they used the wrong sauce, but they said we only use one sauce on ribs. These ribs could have been amazing, but they burned like the damn one chip challenge. NOBODY has ever posted a review about spicy ribs for them so I'm guessing the cook messed up or was randomly pranking people. They also ran out of rolls that go with the rib platter and they tried to sell me a whole pack of hamburger rolls lol. I've done the one chip challenge and extra hot ramen challenge so I'm not sensitive to spicy, but these ribs aren't food. It's a practical joke. I hate leaving bad reviews and I wanted this to be my new weekly rib spot but after this I'll never cheat on Adams Taphouse again. read more

This review is in regards to our recent experience with crabs only. We reserved two dozen large crabs ($85 per dozen) this past weekend and were all settled at home feasting, only to find we only received 20. We called, and the girl on the phone told us we could come back to get the four. No apology. That was extremely inconvenient, considering we were in the middle of our family dinner. We asked about a prorated refund, but were told they can't do that. So, she said she could give us a credit towards our next visit. When I asked how much the credit would be, she said, "I don't know, I'd have to do some calculations..." to which I replied, "Okay, with the calculations, what would that be then?" She said "Like $12" !!! Way off. More like $28 (without tax and without the tip we provided). She then said they would log it in their books for next time. We decided to head over there to get our credit in writing somehow, and she ended up writing $26, so it was still wrong. Still no apology for the inconvenience. I truly don't enjoy writing negative reviews, but I feel we needed to share this experience. We were very disappointed in this customer service. We have had other positive experiences at Pit Boys with their crabs, though. Hopefully this was just a one-off. read more

Well I've tried and tried but you keep failing me... when in their old location they had their game down.. Now they have a new location and keep missing the mark on food and service.. one time 8 person lunch order for the office .. total gong show lots of wrong food or missing ect. Thought ok won't do that again. Now 1 guy walks in orders one sandwich and a onion ring.. to go ..only person in the place was me and one table Back to office- open bag- rings are disgusting since the fryer is not hot enough, soaked in grease.. Checked out the new place. It was ok. I will go back I am sure, but not sure I will seek it out. Food: Solid BBQ fare along with crabcakes. They look like their are adding a crab and beer bar, but that is a ways off. Had pit beef on roll. Sandwiches some with good chips and a hefty pickle. I had a side of potato salad that was good. The horseradish was OMG time to clear the sinuses (you were warned). Service: Slow, not overly attentive. Atmosphere: Weird. We were greeted by a (guessing) 12 year old hostess that asked how many in our party. We stood in line to order for a while and then were told to sit at the several picnic tables as there was table service. The table seating is VERY odd. 12' long benches. In order to sit at the table you need to move the bench out...thereby moving the people that may be sitting on the other end. Will be nearly impossible if crowded. Tabletops/picnic tables felt sticky. Price: $15 for a sandwich, side and fountain drink. While Pit Boys was one (if not the) of the first to do BBQ in the area, them closing since last November I think will hurt them. BBQ has exploded as a trend--Smokehouse, Adams, 2 Mission BBQ, Red Hot and Blue, and Famous Daves all in immediate market. Toss in Bayside Bull, Chads and another Adams in Edgewater and a (coming soon) Mission BBQ and Hideaway in Odenton/Gambrills and... well there are choices. Pit Boys might be good for a quick bite for the lunch crowd...but before it gets to that point, they need to work on the service. DISCLOSURE: This is their 3rd day open so there are some kinks for sure. But they also have been to this rodeo before so it is not like it is new to them either. read more

We've been trying to stop in at Pit Boys since we moved to Annapolis about a year ago. We finally made it there for lunch after we were craving some BBQ. M had the 3-meat special (pit beef, ham, and turkey). K had the turkey rueben with coleslaw. The first thing that we noticed was the SIZE. They were huge sandwiches that averaged about a pound of meat each. M's "triple decker" was delicious...all the meats were smoked well, but the pit beef stood out. K enjoyed her turkey rueben, but the cole slaw was not her favorite--next time she will try the saurkraut. The baked beans were very good and a nice side for us to split. The sauce/toppings bar had a nice variety of flavors including a tiger sauce, BBQ sauce, horseraddish, raw onion, and pickles. The prices were very fair for the amount of food we got. The one negative that we found was the size of the seating area--if more than about 4 people wanted to sit and eat, it would be very difficult. However, they do mainly advertise themselves as a carry-out, so I can understand the lack of space and tables. While we really enjoyed ourselves at Pit Boys and will definitely be returning--we will say that if you are looking for the best pit beef place in the area, a trip to Chap's Pit Beef in Baltimore is recommended. read more

When we want crabs we typically go to Cantler's , Mike's or the Crab Deck. But last night we had a craving and decided to pick up and eat at home. Tried Wild Country but they were out, then tried Annapolis Seafood, but all they had were mediums. So I called Pit Boys (which has been highly recommended) and they had X large so off I went to pick up. We were simply blown away! These were more like Jumbos and possibly the best we've had in a long time! and the price was reasonable at only $6.25 each!. Friendly staff, steamed and seasoned to perfection! We will be back. For what its worth, I think they were seasoned with J.O, and not Old Bay but I could be wrong. No big deal either way read more

Went to Pit Boys because I was planning on using them for a work event for catering, so if I have never been to a place, such as Pit Boys (Lived in Annapolis all my life, never knew it existed) I have to QC before I subject my guests to their food. Boy am I glad we did. 5 of us ate for ~$50.00, which is decent, $10.00 a person is good. However, the food was mediocre, and that is pushing it. I got a side of potato salad, it was the most unusual potato salad I have ever seen... I think after boiling potatoes they immediately put the mayonnaise in, causing it it turn into a watery-mayo-gross-slop. The potatoes weren't fully cooked, still crispy, the water-mayo and the old bay... no thanks. I got the Super Combo, 2 meats on the roll... both tasted like lunch meat you'd buy at the grocery store for $3.00 a pound. I didn't smell a smoker, I didn't smell food cooking, I saw some fryers and that was it. I won't be back... ever. I have been here a couple of times and I was pleasantly surprised. The place keeps strange hours and I am not exactly sure what they are. One time I went on a Saturday around 3 or 4 in the afternoon and they were closed. I eventually caught them open for lunch on a Saturday. The place is a tiny building with an even tinier parking lot. There is room for about 2.5 cars. When you walking there is a counter for you to order and a tiny backroom with at least one table (maybe two) and a few stools. There is a counter along the back with several different condiments (onions, ketchup, mayo, BBQ sauce, etc.) with which to build up your sandwich. The first time I ordered the pulled pork BBQ sandwich and fries. The pulled pork was excellent. There was plenty of pork and it was succulent and flavorful. The BBQ sauce was tangy, but didn't over power the pork. It was on a nice soft kaiser roll. No frills, but a delicious sandwich. The fries were thick cut with skin and very good. They came in a cup like you would get at a carnival. The second time I ordered the pit beef sandwich. Like the first sandwich it was very good. The beef was cooked perfectly and very moist. The beef was flavorful enough (a touch more salt and pepper would have brought the flavor out a little more) to eat it without adding an BBQ or other sauce. I had the fries again which were very good. Not a very good place to go and sit down and it might not be open for dinner, but for a delicious take out sandwich it gets the job done. read more

Bad choice. Beef had no distinctive pit flavor and was rubbery and chewy. Did not finish it. Baked beans tasted as if they were right out of a can with no flavor. The condiments were high on counter and had no table in front where one could lay down sandwich comfortably. Decor is plain and bare. No atmosphere. My Girlfriend bought a dozen extra large for my birthday, and they were so good I had to buy more for the weekend to take to my parents! I was lucky to grow up on the Eastern shore, and I haven't seen hard River crabs like these since I was a kid. Only a couple paper shells as exception, The crabs were all heavy, dirty shelled and very hard. (Meaning, if you don't know, that these crabs had not sluffed in a long time and were packed with meat. ) Pit boys steamed the crabs just right without over or undercooking them. They aren't cheap, but least the crabs we got were the cream of the crop. I guess you get what you pay for! My mom and dad came to visit, and I brought them to Pit Boys for crabs and BBQ. It took 30 minutes to get 6 crabs, and they were RAW inside. Like, clear-jelly-meat totally uncooked raw. Their excuse was that "they got a new crab guy." My mom got brisket, which was dry, tough and leathery. The manager told me "yeah, I thought it was over cooked, but I served it anyway." The ribs were very good, and they did credit us our entire dinner, given it was largely inedible. Also, they don't have a liquor license, which I thought they used to have, so no beer with crabs. They call a 5.25 inch 3oz crab a large crab and defend it saying they are MD crabs and charge you $60 a dozen! The owner Marla George won't come to the phone and has a young extremely rude, condescending manager handle her issues. She said a few times in our conversation that if you don't like our crabs go somewhere else and this is after I spent $185!!! No apology no nothing just rude, unprofessional, obnoxious treatment and this isn't the first time... I always give the benefit of the doubt but it happened again.
