Apart from speedy delivery I can't think of a single nice thing to say about this restaurant. I've eaten there twice since I moved here in 2014, and it is by far the worst Chinese food I've ever had in my life. It's extremely bland, and it's never really hot when it shows up. Apart from the soup, anyway. Today I spent over $40 including tip on food, and ended up throwing it all away. If I could get a refund I would, but I doubt I could. I grew up on the East coast and we had some amazingly delicious Chinese food out there, but when I moved to California in 2013 I experienced San Francisco Chinese food. That is the best I've ever had, and boy do I miss it every day. I've yet to find a single Chinese restaurant in Portland or the surrounding area that is any good. Such a shame. read more

I have to admit the appearance of the business is a little off-putting. Located in a strip mall with a sign that's been half-burnt out since I moved here months ago and nothing else on the outside to really draw the hungry customer in, I admit I was a little leery about the place. But then I went in, and my whole attitude changed. Their food and service are excellent. Simply excellent. I have never had a long wait there - even during busy lunch and dinner hours - and the food has always been up to par. My stomach is pretty sensitive to really greasy, cheap food and I have never suffered a physical complaint after eating there. So really, my recommendation is to give this place a shot. "Don't judge a book by its cover," and all that. I especially recommend the crab and cream cheese wantons, sesame chicken, Panda Deluxe fried rice and Thai iced tea. Deee-licious. read more

The biggest thing this place has going for it is delivery! Yeah, you can get pizza or an overpriced dish from Delivered Dish but...you don't have to suffer that with Happy Panda. Their website is just absurdly archaic and the main cause of a slower score. It's HTML at it's worst for a 2012 website. A minimal improvement here would be amazing. Otherwise, the family deals are great for under $30 with leftovers the next day. We got with the sweet & sour chicken & the Szechuan beef. Both are tasty, well portioned and delicious. The family meal also has BBQ pork, shrimp, soup & egg rolls. Total bargain. Usually delivered under an hour or less as a bonus. A great choice. read more

I love this place. The food isn't the best but it's still very satisfying. I love the Tso's Chicken, the Sesame and the stir fry noodles (oh was a connoisseur I am!) It's tasty filling and stores very well in the fridge. So you can get 4 boxes, eat a little of each and have it again the next day. Horrid. Horrid. Horrid. I'm tempted to just leave it at that and just warn you away, but I'll go into a little more detail. We ordered the appetizer sampler, cream cheese crab wontons, Szechuan beef, orange chicken, and deluxe fried rice. The wontons were pretty decent, as was sliced pork and deep fried shrimp. Spring rolls were very bland. The fried rice was (and I mean this literally) the worst fried rice I've ever eaten. Or rather, not eaten. Two bites of this trash, and I had no desire to suffer through any more. The orange chicken was alright. Not at all crispy, just somewhat doughy and gloppy. The Szechuan beef was unlike any other I've ever seen, and not in a good way. Lacking any spice, and like the chicken, just a glop of doughy nastiness. Everything fried, and not a vegetable in sight. To summarize: Horrid. Seriously, there's really no reason to give this place your money. It's sad when even PANDA EXPRESS is better quality and value. So very inconsistent. I've been there 3 times now and had a different experience each time....2 of them bad, 1 good. Not great odds. I went once a few years ago and had my usual favorite, pork fried rice. That's usually my tester order when I'm trying a new Chinese place. It was bland, so bland...really just egg, pork, and rice without much flavor or veggies. The hot and sour soup was neither. Not impressed, so I didn't go back. But, I met a friend there for lunch 2 weeks ago and having heard good things, ordered pork fried rice thinking maybe they'd changed. And it was good! Great flavor, tender pork, nice big portion. Cool. I love Chinese food, I work in the area, I'm happy. So I go back a week ago, ready for another plate of that pork fried rice. Holy crap I think it was the same batch I had 2 years ago. Bland bland bland. And brought out literally about 3 minutes after I ordered. Yes I know what a steam table is but could we at least pretend it's fresh? Service is pretty on point here which is obviously a good thing, but the food is just something to eat, not write home about. There aren't a lot of Chinese options in the immediate area, but enough Japanese, Vietnamese, and Thai to get my Asian food fix in when I want it. After reading the extremely conflicted reviews I consulted my local friend on the quality of this establishment. He vouched for its good quality and we headed out, arriving 10 minutes before closing. At this point we could only order take-out, so we did. I got the orange chicken thing and my friend got the mushroom chicken thing. The bad reviews had it. The dish was so bland. I wouldn't go so far as to say it was tasteless, but I was adding soy sauce to orange chicken. You shouldn't need to add soy sauce to orange chicken. It tastes terrible. The breading was soggy and not sticking to the chicken at all. The chicken itself was pretty dry. The only plus side of the dish was that it felt pretty healthy and unprocessed. I think they make the breading and sauce in-house, it was not a generic flavor profile. That being said, if this dish came out of my kitchen I could be satisfied. It is completely unsatisfactory for it to come from a restaurant though. I will give this place the benefit of the doubt since it was take-out and it was late. SE or 82nd quality? No way. But for decent eats out in the 'burbs, it isn't bad. And they deliver. The Hot & Sour was neither, Kung Pao was tepid, but the tofu dish was one of the better I've had. And they deliver. Sitll I'd rate it above Panda Express, but far below just about anything else. It is Chinese-American distilled to strip mall ease of access, with pick-up and within a certain area, delivery. Happy Panda: If my grandma attempted to cook Chinese food without ever tasting it and only used what she already had in her kitchen. My bf & I placed an order for delivery from Happy Panda around the time when we were first moving into our new place. (approx 1 month ago) Seriously the noodles in our "chow mein" were pretty much spaghetti noodles with soy sauce, and there were some "umm, wtf?" veggies in there. (think southwestern corn) My bf and I couldn't stop laughing at that, so that turned out to be the only memorable thing about their food...it's hilarious. EVERYTHING tastes the same. I s**t you not. I don't know why Happy Panda only has 3 stars. I have been going there for 16 years. Their food is delicious and not very greasy. The lunch special is between $6-8 and you get a cup of soup. main dish, a side of rice, a won ton and a spring roll. Dinners are always more expensive, but they have 3 dinner combinations that you can order for 2+ people. The hot and sour soup is my favorite - absolutely wonderful. I just moved to Seattle and when I'm in town, I always try and get some to take home with me. My favorite dishes: General Tso's Chicken Cashew Nut Chicken Broccoli and Beef Sweet and Sour Chicken Mushroom Chicken Shanghai Street Noodles House Special Deluxe Chow mein The service is fabulous and quick. Water is always refilled promptly. My order is taken a few minutes after I sit down, then, out comes my soup, and my meal arrives soon after. Definitely try this restaurant if you're looking for delicious, not-too-greasy Chinese food for a good price. read more

They don't tell you when you order gluten free that the food still comes battered. They don't say anything on the menu about the sweet and sour shrimp and chicken having vegetables. It was covered in onions which I can't eat and the batter after one miniscule bite made me so sick I threw up. You're not able to make things safe. You should just stop trying. Your shrimp tasted rancid and the carrots that I didn't ask for weren't even cooked. When I got there you told me my entire order was gluten free then failed to mention that you make your rice with soy sauce. I just threw away 40 dollars worth of food that I couldn't physically eat. When we showed up and ordered or entrees ,they didn't give the whole entree so we asked for the rest of the entree then they gave us a small. Box of the entreeordered then it wasn't the whole amount that usually is served, so we asked them to give us the whole entree ordered and they gave us a sm box of it and charged us extra money for it! They didn't care that they shorted us from the get n go to charging us extra for what was suppose to be in the order we already paid for two times. What's up with that?? I literally never follow through with writing reviews but this was such a waste of $20 I feel compelled. First, I want to say I appreciate the ease of ordering gluten-free and after reading the reviews of this place being Celiac friendly, I was excited to have the option for Chinese tonight... Unfortunately what I got was the most flavorless dinner I have ever had, and I almost always love my food bland, but I had to put so much Tamari on my order, I'll probably swell from all the salt. I ordered the GF chicken with broccoli and the BBQ Pork fried rice. The chicken and pork both seemed of reasonable quality (some Chinese places are all gristle and scraps and it's totally inedible) but they tasted like the color beige. The broccoli was well cooked too, not mushy and the right amount of crunch but it may as well have been plain steamed broccoli and boiled chicken. The sauce was just brown water as far as I could tell. The pork fried rice is only fried with egg and beansprouts (which I hate and wish I would have known to order green onions instead) neither of which offer any assistance in flavor at all. I ended up using bottled Tamari and Peanut Sauce to get myself through the meal. I appreciate the ease of ordering, the attention they pay to GF customers with options and mindful separation in the kitchen but ultimately I cannot in good conscience recommend this restaurant. We went here for work group lunch. We used to go about once per month, but then we went into Mexican food mode and haven't been here in quite a while. The food is very quickly prepared and quite nice. Flavorful, plenty, and fresh. They even have gluten free options and that matters since I work with a guy who eats that way. Me-So Happy! I moved back to Happy Pandas delivery area after over a year of craving their food. Call me crazy but I really enjoy this little place...I always get exactly what I want when the urge for fried pot stickers and shrimp with some refried rice or maybe Pad Thai-yeah Pad Thai at a Chinese take out place, but it actually beats that served at my local Thai restaurant, the Thai Cabin (is that a weird name?) I now get delivery a couple of times a month, especially on rainy nights when I have a movie to watch-what a treat..someone else cooking, someone bringing it to me and I get a movie. I see a heap of bad reviews...and I guess it's To each his own. after all I hate McMinimums places. I suggest giving it a try, especially if you're in their delivery area. I especially like the pot stickers and can make a dinner out of them and an order of fried shrimp with a side of fried rice....with plenty left over to warm up for lunch. Ok, my review is probably more like 2.5 stars. The pros: Delivery. That's about it. The food is just ok but, kind of bland. Which sucks, but doesn't mean I won't order it again lol. I keep getting the coconut curry chicken, thinking it's going to be full of flavor (hint: it's NOT) and ending up dissapointed and adding my own spices to it for the leftovers. My roommate has gotten the sesame chicken, to which he has said "oh, apparently sesame chicken is just seeds sprinkled on top at the end". And yes it comes with sauce on already for delivery, he doesn't care but I thought I'd mention it since some people don't like soggy sesame or orange chicken. My final thoughts? I'll order delivery from here again, since they offer Gluten free options and I'm very allergic to wheat. It's really win or lose with this place. The first time, I ordered chicken coconut curry and it was, basically, a few pieces of chicken floating around in some sort of vaguely sweet yellow-y water. The fried rice and potstickers were alright - not fantastic but definitely pretty tasty. But this was January 2013. Fast forward to February 2014 - we ordered Happy Panda again. It's cheap and delivers pretty quick, so why not. The fries are consistently good. I tried the family bean curd this time, and it was actually very very good. Big chunks of bean curd and the sauce was sweet but not overpowering. I would order this again. Bonus points for gluten free and vegan options. I appreciate that a lot. read more

We have been ordering from Happy Panda since it first opened, but we probably won't again. The service has gone down hill and the food is lately just mediocre. We mainly have our food delivered. I was dissatisfied with the service the last time we ordered. We ordered the orange peel shrimp and they delivered the chicken. We don't eat chicken. I called to tell them and the person who answered told me it was too late to deliver again. She offered to credit me the money on a future order. I have never heard of this before. Then I asked to be credited back right away and I sat on the line for several minutes until she told me that would be ok. I got credit back but didn't get dinner. Or an apology. I emailed the restaurant about my dissatisfaction and never heard back. While none of this is a horrible offense, it was sort of the proverbial nail in the coffin. Used to LOVE this place! I ordered delivery tonight, 45 minutes later ( no complaints on delivery time) HOWEVER it arrived with 1/2 of the order missing. Called the restaurant, the VERY FIRST suggestion to rectify the problem was to simply credit my account for the rest of the missing order. Not good enough! Use to love their food and delivery, how ever the past 3 times order the quality of the food has gone down. We order the same items and every time we have the meat in the orders has diminished to about half to a few pieces. I order fresh mushroom chicken and when it came there were so many mushroom I really was upset because there were only 5 very very small pieces of chicken. My husband order the beef with broccoli and only got 4 small pieces of beef. When I placed the order the gentleman on the line you could not understand because he was talking so fast I had to ask him to slow down and speak more clearly. It's hard for me to judge as I requested my chow mein mildly spicy so I could share with my daughter, yet it was so spicy we both couldn't enjoy it. Not sure if it were the high school girls working at the front that didn't convey my order correctly or the cook just didn't care. This is a great delivery for when I do not feel like cooking! I love that the menu offers gluten free items, and regular style items so both myself and the man in my life can enjoy. I decided to give this place another try. I'm a sucker for second chances what can I say. I was also impressed with the plethora of gluten free options and the fact that they actually have gluten free soy sauce. We decided to order the Family Feast combo this time (to go) and ordered Szechuan chicken, fried rice, Pad Thai, chicken w/vegetables and brown rice. The brown rice is about a $2 upgrade charge but what you get is the tastiest wild rice you've ever had. The gluten free options are also $.50 each I believe. Small price to pay. When all was said and done we got out of there spending less than $40 and it fed 3 adults, 2 kids and a toddler. My goodness it was so yummy. The Szechuan chicken is to die for. The only dish that was only half-way decent was the Pad Thai. But who expects a Chinese restaurant to pull off a Thai dish that well anyway. We have been back several times since and the food doesn't disappoint. I don't know what the heck happened my first time but, dang, it sure got good. I will say there is an interesting mix of employees. It always seems that the front end is overcrowded with staff all climbing over each other to get things done. But overall everyone seems friendly enough. One thing to not is that you need to ask for any extras such as chopsticks, napkins, soy sauce, chili sauce, hot mustard, etc. As you won't get any of that if you don't otherwise. read more

Ordered for pick up tonight and the food was pretty meh. I'm really disappointed that I paid a $1.50 upcharge for egg fried rice and legit, all you get is egg, and fried rice. No celery, carrots, peas, etc. that you'd expect in fried rice. I also paid $8 for an appetizer add on, and it came with 2 spring rolls, 4 tiny fried shrimp, and a tiny, 1 oz portion of COLD bbq pork. All in all I paid $40 for something I could have bought better at Panda express for $15.00. Disappointing to say the least. Won't be re-patronizing this establishment. read more

It's distressing to leave a one star review here. I love Happy Panda, and we ordered over $60 worth of food on Friday for our Anniversary dinner. Today, when I was eating the leftovers, I bit into a spring roll and my tongue and gums were pierced by a staple! A freaking staple! And when I called the restaurant, the girl who answered the phone just said, "huh, weird." No sorry, no "I'll make sure it never happens again!" Just "huh, weird. " and an awkward silence. So I said, please talk to your staff and make sure that doesn't happen again. She said, "okay, have a nice day!" And hung up.
