We had a friend visiting from out of state and she was craving chinese! We haven't had the best of luck with chinese food in the area but decided to give this place a try. Honestly, the worst we've ever had. I spit mine out and found something in the freezer to throw together. The two others managed to eat some of theirs but most of it still went into the trash. Breeding on chicken uncooked, rice was mushy like oatmeal and the dumplings were more like won tons that were stuffed so rough you could barley chew them. Will never order from this place again learned my lesson and what's worse I used door dash, so had to pay premium to get it. Love door dash this review doesn't reflect them at all. Well I really did try to like it. Their prices are definitely good and the service was fine. But I got the beef broccoli with fried rice with fried rice and pot stickers. The beef quality and the beef broccoli was not very good and it had an off taste just like beef that's been sitting around for maybe a little too long but not spoiled. The fried rice I thought was steamed rice at 1st it did not have any vegetables and it was barely fried and that also tasted just a little off. The hot and sour soup also had a strange taste. I would not call the food spoiled or ranced but just everything tasted just a little weird like either they did not know how to make the good flavors of good Chinese food Chinese food or that they are just using really old ingredients. If I had to pick between this or Panda Express it would be Panda Express in a heartbeat. I do not think I will go back. read more

Edit: I was contacted by their manger and she said that I will have a credit for my next visit. I appreciate them reaching out and I will be giving this place another try! I used to really love this place and their food but the other day I got orange peel chicken for takeout while I was eating it I noticed it tasted off so I didn't finish it and about 20 minutes after I ate it I felt really sick I ended up getting severely sick from it with what I'm assuming was food poisoning. I called them the next day to ask if anyone else had called because it made them sick and the employee said she didn't think so but she would have the manger call me back the following day so she took down my info and well now 3 days later and the manger never called. I just won't be bringing my business here anymore because I'm very upset that I payed $13.95 to give myself food poisoning. However, this restaurant managed to send the wrong dish entirely and also not send two of the items ordered. We called and left a message and they did not call back. I've been home for 2 hours. SECOND, asked for my address again and phone number and said oh it is still in delivery. it was sent out 40mins ago. I live about 10mins from this place. Not a huge fan. I ordered delivery here on a Sunday afternoon. The website allowed me to place an order at 3 pm, but I got a call a few minutes later that they don't start delivery until 4:30 pm. I wish they didn't allow me to place an order until that point, I think that work make sense. As for the food, the fried rice didn't have any veggies, so that wasn't too great. I came here around 1 o'clock on a Friday and it was somewhat busy. We got seated almost instantly and the workers were very helpful in telling us what's good on the menu. We ordered the panda fried dumplings as appetizers and we got 7 of them for 5.95. Inside of the dumplings were ground pork and shrimp and the outside was very crispy and crunchy and the inside had just the right amount of meat and flavor. I ordered the shrimp chow mein for 10.95 and was very pleased with what I got. The portions were very big and there wasn't too little or too much shrimp. My boyfriend ordered the sesame chicken from 11.95 and it came with tender fried chicken sautéed in schezuapn sauce with sesame seeds, rice, a potsticker and a dumpling. The portions were also big just like with the chow mein and it's great how they gave us a variety of different food compared to other places where you just get the chicken and rice. I'm doing it - five stars for Americanized Chinese food. I ain't scared. Come at me! I've never been in the restaurant proper. Delivery only. I'm so satisfied with not only their delivery but their online ordering procedure that I've never felt like I've missed anything by eating take-out. We've never waited more than an hour for delivery, either. The drivers are always courteous and prompt. Hits, for me, include but are not limited to the following: hot and sour soup, BBQ pork, pad Thai, Szechuan and sesame chicken and beef and orange peel chicken and beef. All good. The real deal here for me is that vegan wife has multiple favorites here as well. This is nothing short of a miracle. This restaurant is not to be confused with Panda Express by any means. That is insulting. This store has got to be one of the most decent Chinese restaurants near Hillsboro. The farther you go from downtown, the harder it is to find good Chinese food (actually SE is where its at.) Their Orange Chicken is good. The service inside the restaurant is fast. If you're feeling lazy and you live within their delivery route, do so. They will give you a time frame that they will commit to. This is our go-to Chinese place. We've been eating their food for the past 10 years. Service has always been very quick when stopping in for takeout or a quick meal. Delivery has also been faster than estimated recently. What originally sold us was that they were local, used no MSG, had online delivery (ahead of its time in the early 2000s), used white meat chicken in all their dishes, and had super fresh veggies. Some dishes have changed and some are definitely better when eaten in the restaurant, but we still like it. They have both Chinese and Thai dishes here. We mostly stick to the Chinese side of the menu, which is also all over the map with many different cuisine styles making appearances. We pay for the fried rice upgrade with each entree. It has a good flavor and is simple with a little egg, but no other veggies/meat in it. The Family Dinner deals are a great value. They come with two entrees, soup, spring rolls, fried prawns and charsiu. The pricing is for 2 people and you save between $5 and $7. You can upgrade for more people, too. We like some of the other appetizers on the menu better so we haven't been ordering the deal as often as we used to in the beginning. Also, I like ordering 3 entrees (even though there are only 2 of us) because I'm used to eating Chinese food family-style with my extended family and just getting two flavors doesn't seem like eating a Chinese meal to me. I wish their noodles were better because I love noodles! These just don't tickle my fancy. If they did, we'd probably order a noodle dish in addition to the 3 entrees and have a boat load of leftovers. Their chow mein noodles are a little thicker than I like. Their wide Shanghai street noodles have a great taste, but often it has too much other stuff in it (I like my noodles heavy on the noodles) and the noodles tend to stick together in clumps which are not really too appetizing. Recently we tried the Mango Chicken to change up our regular order, and were pleased by the great taste, crisp-tender carrots and mango in the spicy sauce. It didn't heat up as well as some of the other leftovers, so I suggest eating up this dish on the first night. One thing I think is odd for a Chinese restaurant is how few pork dishes there are. There's not even a pork section on the menu. Our favorites: Mongolian Beef Beef Broccoli - except, why is there celery in here? Panda Dumplings - I think these are in the won ton soup, but they taste better this way. Sesame Chicken - better than the General Tso's chicken Not so favorites: Won ton soup - bland; the won tons are good, but needed mustard & shoyu Noodles General Tso's chicken - other places do it better! Quick, friendly service and yummy, plentiful food is what keeps us coming back to the panda. The leftovers feed the Sam and me for at least a couple additional meals, especially when we supplement with our own rice. I'm happy that Happy Panda is in our 'hood and feeding my belly! read more

This is my first review (because it's that bad). Happy Panda is a nasty mess. This is the second time we ordered via delivery and it's just as bad, if not worse, than the first. We spent the day on the road and didn't want to go pick up food at Taste of Sichuan, where we should have gone. Husband thought we should give it a second try hoping it was just an off night the first time. Not so much. Everything tastes the same. We ordered fried shrimp, sweet and sour chicken, orange chicken, Szechuan beef, and sesame beef. The sesame beef and Szechuan beef looked and tasted identical. Crummy cuts of chewy beef so black on the outside it appeared burned. The batter was gummy and the pieces stuck together. One had onions and the other didn't. Neither were spicy as both should have been. Sesame beef should have crispy rice noodles and a distinct sauce. Nope. Not worth saving for the leftovers. Fried rice was flavorless and only had rice and egg. No veggies? The fried shrimp came with sweet and sour sauce, not the usual savory red sauce I asked for when I called in the order. Even the hot mustard was just one note of hot without the mustard flavor. The other dishes aren't worth delving into. We won't be making a 3rd attempt. I'll be irritated seeing the charge in my check register for the next few weeks. read more

I know that 2*s sounds really harsh, and there was nothing absolutely horrible about Happy Panda, but to me it completely sums up the official Yelp 2* definition: "Meh. I've experienced better." They had a goodly number of lunch specials; priced at about $7 each entree also comes with soup, a wonton, an egg roll, and steamed rice. Sounds like a bargain, right? Well the portion sizes are quite generous, but I'd gladly all that quantity for a little more quality. They could save themselves some inventory and about 2 seconds of work in the kitchen by simply tossing the fried wonton strip straight in the trash - no filling, just a flavorless, rectangular piece of fried flour. Everyone in our party of 3 ordered the Hot & Sour soup - a bowl of salty broth, sparsely populated with tofu and egg, but neither "hot" nor "sour". Like the fried wonton, this was another component of the lunch combo that really did nothing for me. The egg roll was OK; perhaps a little oily, but at least it was crisp and cooked through. Still, I was left with the feeling that they served this just to ensure you would be full when you left. My main dish was Kung Pao chicken. I was pleased to see it didn't look artificially colored - at some crappy Chinese places it looks like they pour food dye in the stir fry to make the Kung Pao look fiery and red. Here it looked like simple chicken stir fried with celery, peanuts, and onion. Unfortunately that's exactly what it tasted like! I wasn't expecting a true hot 'n spicy Sichuan Kung Pao, but I DID expect a little spice, some chilis...heck I would have settled for any flavor! This dish was so bland I think the Happy Panda people must have been aiming to please only those who think that Panda Express is too spicy. It was a real shame, because the chicken and veggies were cooked nicely - the former was tender, while the latter still retained it's natural crunch. The service was typical lunch-crowd efficient. They did a decent job of refilling our waters, upon request they promptly brought a selection of chili condiments to add some flavor to our meals, and generally did a competent job of serving our table. Interestingly, they kept pimping the sodas so much that we started to wonder if the servers got paid a bonus for each coke they sold. It bordered on irritating after declining the 3rd or 4th "are you sure you don't want something other than water" type comment. As I said, nothing here was so bad that I would categorically write Happy Panda off; and if others in my party really wanted to go here I'd give it another shot. But seriously, I think I WOULD prefer Panda Express over this place, and it makes me kinda sad to say that. read more

I rated it 4 stars, because for what it is, that's how it rates. I don't go to this place expecting to order roast duck or bbq pork, so I think it would be unfair to rate this place lower because of that. I do however, find it to be much better than a Panda Express type place. Happy Panda's Orange Chicken is wonderful. Very flavorful, as you can actually taste the hint of orange peel, unlike the orange chicken at Panda Express. The chicken itself is also of higher quality, and is always tender. Unlike typical fast-food chinese restaurants that tend to have more stuffing than chicken. I was unimpressed with some of the other dishes I've tried, but I typically only go here for lunch anyways. I usually just stick with one of the lunch specials, but more times than not, I stick with the orange chicken, becuase of all the sauces they have at this place, their orange peel sauce is excellent, while their other sauces are merely ok. read more

Going to Happy Panda made me a Sad Panda. My buddy in class is always talking about how she is having cravings for their food, so I thought the husband and I would give it a go around. We ordered the Dinner for two with Chow Mein and Sweet and Sour Pork. It came with hot and sour soup and a sample of some of their appitizers. The soup tasted as If someone had accidently dropped a bag of salt into the pot. it was soooo salty we couldn't eat it. The chowmein was noodles dripping with oil and the sweeet and sour pork wasn't bad but wasn't what I would call tastey or even mediocre. They do give big ass portions, but a giant heaping plate of shitty food is just a sad waste. poor starving kids in Africa, or something like that. anyway, on the rare occasion I decide on Americanized Chinese food I will happily stick with Panda Express at the mall food court........ read more

As much as I would like to offer a local restaurant more praise, I would only be lying if I actually recommended this place to anyone on Yelp. I know the rating seems extreme, but I assure you, I am being as objective as humanly possible. Perhaps I just have the worst diner's luck at Happy Panda, or was born under the unlucky sign of the Obsequious Panda, but my experience here has consistently been bad. Alright, so the two trips after the first were my own fault, I get that. In my defense, however, I wanted to make sure that the ONLY Chinese restaurant within walking distance of my place was as bad as it seemed. Lord, was it ever... At any rate, the particulars...the dirty, dirty particulars. **sigh** For the sake of brevity, I will outline my most recent trip to Happy Panda a month or so ago: A friend and I stopped in to get a nice dinner and relax. The dining room was fairly empty - it was so sparsely populated that our conversation could be held without being overheard, or overhearing others in turn - Despite this glaring detail, it took a small eternity (metric, not standard) for our waiter to arrive. When he did, it seemed as though our presence were an unbearable slight that he could barely hide between irritated sighs. After placing our order, he disappeared for another small eternity (this time standard measure) eventually emerging TWICE without our drinks. When they finally arrived, my Sprite was so watered down and flat that you would have sworn he just handed me an unfinished glass from an earlier customer; I swear to you, methane swells allow for greater buoyancy than my drink had, with some bubbles trapped cruelly beneath the flimsy weight of the "syrup" that was reluctantly injected at the bottom of my glass. My friend's Diet Coke fared no better. When the food finally arrived, I was actually visibly and audibly disgusted: the barbeque pork was, for lack of a better word, "wilting," and ice cold, as was my mushu pork fixings (the sauce had actually congealed!) The only thing that was even luke-warm were the crepe shells that the contents are stuffed into. I hate giving bad reviews, I really do, and I sincerely hope that others have a better time at Happy Panda than I ever have. Still, when presented with such abyssmal service and food, I have to wonder if I somehow insulted the staff just by walking in the door. My recommendation? Either stay away or try at your own peril. Nope, that's pretty much the height of Yelp elitist douchiness. That being said...oh, how I miss the wonderful, authentic Chinese food back in the SGV! Happy Panda did little to stop my melancholic yearnings for some decent Chinese fare. The service was friendly and speedy, I'll give 'em that. The waiter kept my glass full of Coke, but in the end, it's always about the food. The food this place serves up is just slightly better than Chun King out of a can. "Meh" just about sums it up. The best item we ordered was the Panda Dumpling appetizer. They were hot, crispy and filled with a generous portion of stuff. We also got some veggie chow mein and the Kung Pao Delight. Those main dishes were practically tasteless. I had to ask for some chile paste to spice it up, but it didn't help much. I see Happy Panda cars zooming all over Beaverton, so they must do a brisk delivery business. Maybe I'd consider ordering for an in-the-office lunch. Really a mixed bag on this restaurant. Some good things, and some things that definitely could use improvement. The Good: The General Tso's Chicken came and it was pretty fresh, made with WHITE MEAT and with a decent sauce. When ordering, I asked if it is spicy? They said no, but they can make it 1, 2 or 3 stars worth of spicy. I opted for Level 2 spicy. This was a good level of spiciness. The Bad: The Pot Stickers here taste commercial. They taste very much like the ones you would get at either Costco or Trader Joe's. I would be surprised if this wasn't the case. They do come prepared right, at least, with a definite browned side, but they arrive sitting in 1/8 of an inch of soy sauce/white vinegar. This sauce should be on the side. The Really Bad: The Hot and Sour soup was among the blandest I've eaten. Which is disappointing, because it appears to have been made fresh, with colorful & fresh veg, but overall very little taste & certainly wasn't very spicy or sour. The best factor of this meal was that the General Tso's Chicken was made with white meat. If they care enough to have some quality ingredients & make certain things fresh, why not take it all the way with everything? Overall disappointing. read more

Here's the thing, I've eaten at Happy Panda once or twice a year for a decade or so and have watched the food go from pretty decent American-Style-Chinese to my dad saying he didn't like it (and he's easy to please when it comes to American-Style-Chinese). Anyway, I usually make my reviews longer as I'm not a fan of the drive-by review, but in this case I'm just going to keep it short and sweet (for me at least): So I took my Dutch wife a few months back. Told her they had decent American-Style-Chinese, said she'd probably enjoy it. She ordered cashew chicken or some such and when they put it on the table it had such a strong smell she pushed it away and wouldn't even consider eating it. At first I thought it might just be a smell she wasn't accustomed to as a Dutch person in an American-Style-Chinese restaurant, but after a moment I too smelled it, that kind of strong smell you'd expect to greet your nose when walking up to a stank urinal at a rest stop on I-5 some hot summery day. When the waiter came to ask how our food was we asked him about it and he claimed not to smell anything unusual (it smelled like ammonia!) so we asked to be comped but didn't press our luck when he asked if she wanted to get something else instead. I don't know what was going on that night, but I do know their food has gone downhill, and the waiter must have had clogged sinuses not to smell whatever it was in my wife's meal that night. Granted those prices have gone up over the years, but they still have one of the best lunch specials in the area (dish, soup, rice, spring roll, won ton ~$6.95). Their Szechuan dishes are amazing, they have the best hot and sour soup that I have ever tasted, and everything I have ever had here has been good if not great. I simply cannot understand some of the bad reviews on here, makes me think they either work at a competitor or they think of panda express as quality Chinese. I try to drive all the way from Vancouver once every 30 days just to get some happy panda. When my parents come in town from Arizona, happy panda is one of the first places they have to go. Maybe it's just because I grew up on it, but I can certainly say they rank in my top 10 for Chinese restaurants that I've eaten at in my life, and certainly they are number one in Portland. read more

I've eaten there twice since I moved here in 2014, and it is by far the worst Chinese food I've ever had in my life. It's extremely bland, and it's never really hot when it shows up. Apart from the soup, anyway. Today I spent over $40 including tip on food, and ended up throwing it all away. If I could get a refund I would, but I doubt I could. I grew up on the East coast and we had some amazingly delicious Chinese food out there, but when I moved to California in 2013 I experienced San Francisco Chinese food.
