Bearing in mind that 4 stars means "Yay! I'm a fan," that's what I'd say about this place. It's not the best Chinese food, but surprisingly most of the other Americanized Chinese in A2 is worse and/or more expensive. The Chinese is standard Americanized fare, done very competently. Sometimes you just crave a Kung Pao dinner combo, you know? They have a wide variety of southeast asian foods on the menu, and I get the sense that their Malaysian and Singaporean offerings are a specialty of sorts and probably more authentic, but I'm no expert on those. As others have said, delivery can take a long time. Most recently, I ordered at dinnertime on Saturday, and it took about 90 minutes. For what it's worth, the food was hot when I got it. PS: Don't order the Japanese Pork Kimchee. It's a pretty simple Japanese dish that I can make myself (and I can barely make fried rice), but the one they're selling was more like "Vinegar Vegetables." My food to more than an hour to get to me when the place is 10 minutes away. When it did I had to go downstairs to the delivery guy he did not come up to me. The delivery guy was extremely rude to me. The food was luke warm/cool. The rice was amazingly salty and thrown under the sesame chicken and so it became a disgusting puddle of rice and sauce. The sesame chicken was delicious; however, the 2 inch long curly black hair embedded in the middle of it was not. There was not one piece of actual chicken in my chicken egg roll. When I called to complain about the hair in my food the worker hung up abruptly without even one word of apology. Its safe to say that I will NEVER buy from here again, it was disgustingly unsanitary, sloppy, and has horrendous customer service. read more

Unfortunately terrible. I was excited by reviews, so I actually ordered lunch and dinner - Mongolian Beef, Hot and Sour Soup, and Pot Stickers for lunch, and the Eel and Spicy Shrimp tuna for dinner. Delivery time was just fine, delivery guy was nice, all that was good, but... The glimmers of hope first: The spring roll and hot and sour soup were acceptable, not great, but acceptable. The Pot Stickers were VERY american style, but other than that quite OK. The rest... apparently, they don't know how to cook rice. At all. The fried rice with the Mongolian Beef and the rice in the Sushi was all immensely underdone (very crunchy) whereas the shrimp tasted like it had been cooked, from frozen, for several hours, several days ago, and the eel was so overcooked it was as tough as chicken; I didn't even know that was possible. Just over all really, really bad. Might give them another chance, but so far, I remain at a loss for my Chinese Food fix in A2; I'll just have to keep making it myself. read more

It has been 4 years, since i came to US. I've never experienced and never thought that I'd experience HAIRTAIL OVER RICE. WHEN I ORDERED EEL RICE. I had some kind of feeling since it was $8.25, and you pay around $13-14 for eel over rice around AA. Well, I expected somewhat smaller portion or tasteless eel. NEVER HAIRTAIL. No one puts hairtail over rice. NEVER. Please. It was the worst seafood-don. Perfect crab rangoons every time and they're very generous with the sweet and sour sauce cups. Egg rolls are decent. However, don't order anything else from here. Fried chicken was dry and one of my pieces was in fact boneless..like they ran out of chicken wings and made a last minute substitution. Curry chicken was heavy on the veggies and not very flavorful. Pork fried rice was tasteless and missing pork, egg, and vegetables. Hands down the worst fried rice I've ever had. On the up side, service was quick and courteous. I would only recommend them for a crab rangoon fix. 1 star for the superior crab rangoons and another for the service. BAD FOOD SAFTEY PRACTICES. I ordered 24 steamed vegetable dumplings and received meat dumplings. I called the restaurant and they rushed me some veggie dumplings (the food that I actually ordered) I was pretty angry about receiving meat dumplings because meat is disgusting but what really upset me was that the delivery guy said that his boss wanted the meat dumplings back, which is a food safety violation. Once food is served it cannot be taken back, its trash. Those pig flesh dumplings are in the trash where they belong and I no longer trust this place to make my food, and neither should you. read more

The first thing you notice upon entering this seemingly average asian quick stop is the beautiful door. The next is the comfortable and easy going vibe of the staff. And then, of course, the delicious food. I was very impressed with this place and their amazing menu selection (which I look forward to sampling each dish from). They have pictures of some of the dishes, which is always helpful. Place to sit and eat and quick carry out pick up. Even magazines to read while you wait. I have not tried their delivery, but plan to. When I came here to sit and eat inside, I was impressed with the fresh and tasty way the food was prepared. Nice crisp veggies, tasty sauce, good meat preparation. You might overlook this place as it is packed inside a shopping plaza, but go there and try for yourself. It is worth it. Good prices too. I got two eggrolls, a good amount of soup and tasty fried wontons to garnish and a medium noodle dish for nine bucks. If I were going to suggest anything I would say...nothing! This is a review of their delivery; I have never been inside the restaurant. I have had several combo plates (of westernized take-out) from here and the quality is mediocre, but definitely not terrible. The chicken used (for the non-breaded dishes) is all white meat, which for some people is a plus, but in my opinion tastes dry and less tender/juicy than thigh meat. This is especially true for dishes like Kung Pao, Hunan, Szchuan, and Moo Goo Gai Pan. The beef is sub-par however, being very tough, chewy and flavorless. I would avoid any beef dishes. I cannot say anything for the pork as I've never had it. The fried rice can be very salty, so you may want to let them know to hold back on the salt or soy sauce used. The soups thus far have been pretty decent, especially the hot and sour, which many places mess up royally. Delivery is on the slow side (40-60 minutes), but the delivery fee is minimal (about $1.50) and the food is cheap (under $8 for a combo). Overall, a decent choice when you don't wanna leave the house and want some take-out. read more

I was pleased with the delivery! It came right on time for a Saturday afternoon. I ordered the Pork Fried Rice, Beef Chow Fun, and Steamed Pork Dumplings (when I try somewhere new, I try a lot of it). The Steamed Pork Dumplings were delicious, well made, tasty sauce, and perfectly cooked. The Beef Chow Fun was some of the best I have had. ...The Pork Fried Rice was not perfect though. I'm a huge PFR fan, it is the main reason why I order Asian cuisine - I think it is a pretty simple thing to make. It smelled a little off but I tried it anyway, it just didn't taste right? A part of me thinks it may because I like my PFR a bit more greasy. It wasn't the worst I had. The prices were amazing! My entire meal with delivery was $20.34 -- I have enough food to enjoy for two more meals so I'm happy with it. read more

Absolutely disgusting. I ordered a sushi roll, a cup of soup and a egg roll. Egg roll and soup were fine but freezing. The sushi was absolutely horrible. I could Purchase better and meijer... The avacado was brown as was the krab meat. It took 1.5 hours to get here (I am Blocks from happy wok). My total was 10.50, I gave the delivery boy 15.00 and he ran back to his car after essentially throwing my food at me and grabbing my cash. I absolutely would tip, but not over over $4 dollars, considering I took forever to arrive. I will never again purchase any food from Here, disappointing, dissatisfying and disgusting... Ordered delivery at 6:30pm, and was told our order would take 45 minutes. after wainting an hour and 15 minutes, we called and spoke to a woman who could barely speak english and who could not tell us when our order would arrive, on that the driver "already left with our order." they continually answered other phones and talked to other people while on the line with us, without putting us on hold, forcing us to listen to their other conversations. We were told they would call us with an ETA when they talked to the driver. We never heard back. The driver showed up at 8:15pm and asked us to pay full price (18 dollars and change). We expressed our disappointment with this, and he offered us a discount of $3. Poor customer service and poor communication. Will not be ordering again. Food was mediocre. read more

Cluttered and Dirty. My Husband and I stopped in at 2pm and the place was empty but 4 tables were loaded with dirty dishes that had obviously been sitting for a long time. Magazines and papers scattered all over the tables and dining room seems to double for their office/break room. DO NOT EAT HERE!! AVOID THIS PLACE. My experience at this restaurant almost cost me my life... LITERALLY. I'll make this story short. I have a peanut allergy however I am still able to eat Chinese food because most places have converted to primarily using veggie oils. Here is where my problem begins. I called to ask "do you use peanut oil or peanuts in your food" the answer was No. I called back ordered my food and asked one other time to be sure they were not using any peanuts. I didn't not Oder delivery I chose to pick my food up. I entered and before I left I double checked to be sure they didn't have any of the items I was purchased on the physical menu as containing peanuts; peanuts not listed. I spoke face to face with a woman who assure me I would be fine. When I arrived to work and started to eat I instantly began having an allergic reaction. I asked a co worker to call and ask for me because I wanted to make sure it wasn't the placebo effect of me freaking myself out. She called and asked several times asking "are you sure, are you sure" the woman constantly assured her there were no traces of peanuts. 2 mins later, as my throat was closing, she called back confirming that the egg roll was indeed wrapped in a peanut sauce. Moral of the story this place, and the people working here do no know what is actually in your food. You could be eating anything and they will not be able to help at all. If you have a food allergy avoid this place at all cost. P.S. The portion I did try was not quality. For there to be so many options in Ann Arbor I would NOT choose this one. Happy Wok satifies my inner urge for unhealthy, greasy, salt laden chinese take-out. Call it one of my guilty pleasures. When I used to live closer to Happy Wok, it was frequented by me often, and feelings of guilt came over me as I could only imagine that devastation that my heart has to sustain each time I visited there. My heart and stomach have always been bitter rivals, often my stomach always winning. One dish that really set Happy Wok apart from other take-out places to me is the Hot and Spicy Chicken. This dish is fantastic. It had the perfect assortment of vegetables (they always let you put whatever you want into your dish), the chicken wasn't ever mystery meat, and the fried rice was and still is one of my favorites from around town. I would always emphasize, "I want this so spicy that it should feel like Mt. St. Helen erupting in my mouth or it isn't spicy enough", although the lady at the front desk must have not understood my plea to make it extra spicy, oh well. When I feel like reminiscing about old times and getting closer to an MI, I find myself going back to Happy Wok. read more

Small order delivery took an hour and a half to get to me after being told it would be 30-40 min wait. Not pleased at all.

My experience with this restaurant was so terrible I just had to create a Yelp account and write my first review. First problem - Speed: I phoned in my takeout order and was told it would take 10-20 minutes. I arrived 30 minutes later and was told my order was not done yet. It took another 10 minutes for me to receive my food. There were no customers in the restaurant and they did not appear to be too busy with takeout orders. But I wasn't upset, I was in no rush and I understand that things happen. Second problem - Accuracy: I ordered fried vegetable dumplings. I received steam vegetable dumplings. Again, I didn't get upset. I was in a good mood and it really wasn't a big deal. Third problem - Taste: My entree was the Ma Po Bean Curd, also known as "tofu soaked in vegetable oil and hot peppers." In retrospect, I am thankful that the dumplings were steamed. Given the fact that the Ma Po sauce seemed to be composed of 95% vegetable oil, I'm pretty sure adding fried dumplings to that would have caused me to have a cardiac event on the spot. But seriously, the dish was tasteless and greasy. I'll rate the dumplings as a solid "Not bad." At this point I knew I wouldn't be going back to Happy Wok but still wasn't upset enough to write a negative review. The fourth problem and the straw (or stone) that broke the camel's back - Debris: A few bites into my Ma Po, I felt something abnormally crunchy in my mouth which turned out to be a small white piece of plastic. It looked like it had broken off of a plastic fork or something (which i was not using). I almost got upset about this but I was in an exceptionally patient mood, not to mention extremely hungry. I mean, things happen, right? Assuming it was a shard of plastic cutlery, there are a ton of innocuous ways for something like that to find its way into my food. I continued eating...but then came the pebble. As I continued scooping phenomenally lackluster forkfuls of greasy slop into my mouth I was once again greeted by the sensation of chewing on something that wasn't meant to be chewed. I fished through my mouthful of Ma Po to retrieve what I assumed would be another piece of plastic only to discover a black jagged stone. It was roughly the size and shape of the pebbles you put into the bottom of a fish tank. This hard dense little rock could have easily chipped a tooth had I continued munching on it. I am not normally one to write off a restaurant after one bad experience. I always give the benefit of the doubt and like I've said several times already - I understand that things happen. However, when four things (five if you count the plastic and the pebble separately) such as this go wrong in one meal - the doubt is left with very little benefit left to give. If you have a hankering for some greasy Asian'ish food in Ann Arbor, you can do much, much better. read more

Stopped in at Happy Wok last night on my way home from work for a take-out order. I placed my order online before leaving so it would be ready when I got there. The ordering process online is easy to use. I was able to place my order the way I wanted it as well as adding things like condiments, chopsticks, etc. I ordered Almond Boneless Chicken (which is usually my safe pick when getting Chinese from places I've never been to or when I've been disappointed in the past as was the case with Happy Wok). When I arrived there the food wasn't ready yet even thought the time window on the website said 10-20 minutes and I got there in about 17. I paid and got my food a few minutes later. Not a big deal really. I was really pleasantly surprised at how well they executed the things I ordered. The Egg Drop Wonton Soup was hot and tasty and not over salted. The ABC is a pretty easy meal to prepare but the gravy was NOT the bland brown goop I've seen before. It was interesting, well seasoned, and hot. The egg roll was HUGE!! I would say that it wasn't spectacular or anything but it was good. My opinion of this place has risen from past times. read more

Upon moving to Ann Arbor I tried quite a few Chinese places in search of the best food for the best price. Not only was this place the best I could find, they are close and they deliver! The variety of their menu is very appealing. Personal favorites are the Roti Canal which is kind of like naan but more flaky and soft somehow. If you try it you'll know what I mean. It also comes with two dipping sauces, again, yay variety. I also get the laksa shrimp quite often. It's a shrimp-tofu-noodle soup that tastes great, especially when spicy. All of the traditional dishes are great as well. Pretty much what you'd expect from any other decent Chinese restaurant. The prices are very reasonable and the delivery is usually quick, although I do live nearby. The only reason I didn't give them 5 stars is because I wouldn't drive too far out of my way to eat here, but the convenience and food quality is definitely worth four stars, or maybe 4.5. read more

This is one of the worst restaurant I have every seen in my life. I went in and placed a order and I waited in the restaurant for my food and all I heard was the microwave over and over. They were washing tables off with a towel and then using the same towel to wash there hands with. It was very unclean. Also the staff is very rude to the customers.
