First time trying this place, very friendly and good was yummy! The plates are huge and shareable. Will definitely be coming back.

My husband and I decided to give this restaurant another try. The other dish we used to always order was Chicken Pan Fried Noodles. OMG! What a huge disappointment! The noodles were hard and tasted stale. I had to literally break them apart with my hands! The owners are NOT the same! I'm Chinese and can honestly say that these were the absolute WORST pan fried noodles I've ever had in my entire life. We will NEVER, EVER make the mistake of eating here again! I would ZERO stars if I could!

Came here for the first time for a relatives birthday. It is such a hole in the wall I can't believe I've never been here! The food was very well priced - ~$17.00 per person and includes soup of the day, rice, wonton and shrimp + an entree. I couldn't even finish my entree because of how big it was. The food was delicious and came out in quick time. At one point we did have to remind the owner that we were missing some egg rolls/wontons but I think it's because we had such a big party. I would definitely stop by here if you're looking for great Chinese food.

Your favorite Yelp correspondent loves it when he can add a new, well-run Chinese restaurant to his roster of "go to" staples- a list that includes Red Lantern in Glendora, Happy Kitchen in Chino Hills and, if I'm ensconced near Newport Beach, Mandarin King. My friends and fellow Yelpers- ADD Walnut Tree Restaurant to the list! Walnut's original Chinese restaurant planted its roots in 1979, when Disco was ebbing, Jimmy Carter sat in the Oval Office and gasoline had surged to $0.86/g in the wake of the Iranian hostage crisis. Forty six years and three family generations later, the folks who run Walnut Tree are still delivering fresh, tasty Chinese cuisine at affordable prices. I arrived at 2:57pm, scarcely in time to score their nifty lunch special- (lunch-portioned) entree plus your choice of rice, accompanied by soup, egg rolls + tempura shrimp...all for $12.95 ($2 less if you go with lo mein instead of rice). The egg flower soup was good, though I'm sure the stink eye stare I got from an elderly guest seated across from me was because I'd violated his sense of dining propriety by dousing my soup with soy sauce! The egg roll was piping hot with a pleasant crunchy exterior- ditto for the shrimp. The kung pao chicken was serviceably good, not the "Ivy League" of Kung pao dishes I've enjoyed through the years but did the job. The fried rice was, however, a wee bland. Served with no slivered scallions, fried egg or proteins. You can upgrade to its beefier cousin, but with the lunch special you get the basic version. My server Kloe was pleasant and her service was lightning-quick! No sooner had I consumed three spoonfuls of my soup and she'd materialized with my entree! She also kept my diet coke replenished. The Walnut Tree Restaurant is cozy but clean. My bill was $17, incl soup/appy/entree, a drink, taxes and tip. Bravo!!! Can't wait to bring my family back.

Food was very good the prices seemed a little steep but once we got the food the portions were big. The chicken and Low Mein and two steamed rice were enough for two adults and two small children.Service was very good the waitress was very polite.. Ambiance is simple and clean. We will return again.

All the food here is so good, but when I'm sick I run to go get their wonton soup. It's so so good, wontons, bok choy, water chestnuts, baby corn, bamboo, bbq pork AND fried shrimp? OMG it's phenomenal. Don't wait to be sick though, it's so good on a rainy soup day, or just when you want something cozy and comforting.

Small whole in the wall. Good food. The orange chicken was the best. Dark meat. Not too sweet. Sweet n sour had white meat. So it was kinda dry. Mongolian beef very chewy and kind of sweet. Has a lot of onions. Good portions though.

Food: Cream cheese wontons were so crispy! Mild flavor for the filling but the sauce was sweet. Service: Very sweet and kind server! Overall: I would stop by to try other items and get the cream-cheese wontons

My daughter I ordered 3 separate dishes to share and my favorite was the Baked Cream Sauce Fish Fillet with Rice. Hers was the Baked Chicken with Pasta. Community staple and favorite. This restaurant has been here forever (pho-ever, hehe) around 2020…read moreand I just only recently had it with my mom. I guess it used to be a Japanese restaurant, but it always looked so fancy on the outside that when I was in MS/HS/college, it looked too bougie to go to. Now 15 years later and with paltry income, I can treat my mom to lunch here! They're open at 11 AM, but we went in at around 10:50 AM since the Open sign was turned and the Open lights were one. Worker there greeted us with a smile, checked up on us the entire time, refilled our waters, brought us bowls to help us split food even when not prompted, and had a smile on the entire time. For the hour that we were there, a single diner came in and a party of 8 as well. They have a written wait list in front and a to go order kiosk, so you can tell they're pretty popular. Both of us got custom pho, which is $17 (the lowest base price unless you get plain) and you get an option of 3 proteins. Add an extra $1 for fresh noodles. We both just opted for the classic thin noodles. I ordered without beansprouts thinking it was already going to be in our broth, but it comes out as a side dish but the plate was enough for my mom and I to share. HUGE portions of pho. The bowl size is easily a large at any other pho restaurant. Both of us finished all of the meat in our order, but there was still a decent amount of noodles left so come in hungry. I ordered my custom pho with beef brisket, flank, and rib eye. Some of the cuts were a bit more fattier with big chunks of chewy gooey fat, which I'm not a fan of and left in the bowl. Other than that, pretty good meat quality. Not the most tender, but not tiny pieces or too dry either. Broth was pretty flavorful, nice depth of taste with the beef stock flavor, the onions and other garnishes. It's a bit fatty in taste, but it makes it richer in my opinion. We got a regular fried rice to try and take home for my brother's lunch. It's a plain one with carrots, peas, and scrambled eggs with some onions, garlic, and pepper (the spice). Light in flavor so it's not mega greasy. Just add some sauce on the side to taste. Overall, not a bad experience.

We were able to share amongst all of us and my goodness, the portions are HUGE. We were so full and stuffed! I really enjoyed the Tom Yum noodle soup! I got it medium spicy (my group cannot handle it too spicy) and it was so good. I loved the sour and spicy and the bits of lemongrass in it really packed a punch! The pineapple fried rice was okay, a bit smokey for my taste and it has raisins with cashews! The pad see ew was yummy, sweet and savory! The sesame peanut noodles have been disappointing the last three times I've ordered them. They barely add any sauce anymore, so the noodles taste bland. Instead, they throw in a ton of minced garlic and especially minced ginger, which completely overpowers the dish. It doesn't taste anything like it used to. The service has also gotten worse. I asked an employee in Spanish if I could have a straw. She acted like she didn't understand me, so I asked again in English, and she still said she didn't understand. I just said never mind. But a few minutes later, my aunt asked the same employee in Spanish for more water, and suddenly she understood perfectly. That honestly left me confused. The employees also come off as rude and unfriendly. Then, when it's time to pay, they practically shove the tablet in your face while standing there watching you. We were a party of four, yet there was a $16 gratuity added, and on top of that they asked us how much extra tip we wanted to leave. It feels like you're being pressured into tipping twice instead of it being your choice. It's honestly sad because this place used to be so good. I've noticed fewer people eating there lately, and if the food quality and customer service keep getting worse, I can see why. I hope management takes this seriously and brings Thumbling back to what it used to be.

It would have been better though if their rice is fluffier not a bit dry. Another comment for improvement is to be generous with those special higher priced pieces like the Crabmon and chunkier pieces of salmon like in the photo.
