My meetup organized a 20 person event for this place two days before it closed. It's too bad I hadn't heard of it sooner, because the food was delicious! But understandably, because it was closing, the lines were insanely long and the food was incredibly slow to come out (I think 45 to an hour)? Still, I'd be happy to go down to Harbor City in Tacoma if I'm ever south of Seattle and around there. So sorry to see this treasure leave the CID!! It's got to the point where our favorite stores and restaurants keep leaving and frankly we aren't motivated much now to come down, risk parking a nice car there perhaps with a dog in it to shop and eat in this place any more. So much better safer options in other suburban areas and larger Asian groceries opening up in Bellevue and otherwise. There was a time when we would spend at least some time in the CID almost every weekend and I miss being confidence parking a work truck full of tools or a nice car confidently there and doing my shopping and eating!! This is 100% part of the experience. Unexpectedly, you order using a QR code at the table. Finding what you want to order is bit of an adventure but it works relatively well. We tried the XLB dumplings (good), pot stickers (excellent), chicken lo mein (fine), and mu shu pork (pretty good). I didn't think the food overall was amazing but you get a ton of it and the prices are decent. We had a lot of food for three people and the total price before tip was around $50. Great dim sum place! No carts but the food was still delicious and I appreciated the lazy Susans. Highlights for sure were the chicken feet (some of the best and most plump I have ever had) and the Dungeness crab. The lobster was overcooked and disappointing, but a friend got lobster earlier in the day and loved it so maybe just inconsistent. We arrived on a Saturday around noon. There was a big festival in the neighborhood that day so we were expecting a crowd. Luckily, it wasn't crowded and we were seated immediately We have had our fair share of dim sum in our life that we know what to order. What was unexpected was the portion size. It is big. We ended up ordering 4 dim sum, a congee and a noodle with 2 Cheng fun. We could not finish them. We packed the noodle home untouched! All the food are tasty. I can tell they don't use MSG from the congee! Price was good too. Compared to CA, their prices are lower. Seattle is a pretty pricey town so it is a very pleasant surprise. We will be back for sure. May have gotten more busy around lunch, but can't say. It did pick up a bit. If you go during a busier day, there is a pay parking lot up the street and turn right. You scan the QR code and pre-order your items through an app by assigning your table number. There are photos along with the item name/description for most things. The dim sum quality was on point. I grew up on dim sum in Los Angeles and am now realizing it has been sub par for the amount of restaurants and Asians that live there. Seattle dim sum was fresh and tastier. The restaurant was a bit cold and had a whole in the wall vibe, but it wouldn't deter me from returning here again. The nice thing is that there is another popular dim sum spot across the street at the corner and you can decide to go wherever is first available. In their defense, I was getting quite a few dim sum items at dinner, but we got so many items and most of them left zero impression on me. Not bad, but also not amazing by any means. I think I'd just go to Hong Kong Bistro down the street, but this was okay and not crowded. Quick notes: - Orange Flavored Beef was the best thing here. Located in CID, this has been my family's go to spot for dim sum, lunch and dinner over the years. So depending on the time and day, we will order the following: Dim sum items - my fav being their egg rolls filled with shrimp and cabbage, brisket noodle bowl and char siu sou (BBQ pork puff pastry). Linner - We will usually order 2 of the Salt & Pepper Chicken Wings and it's hit or miss that it comes with a moundful or light coating of fried garlic and minced jalapeno, which goes well on fried rice. I love this place. Every Chinese New Year, I order from Harbor City and I'm never disappointed. We got shrimp fried rice, green beans, shrimp dumplings, shrimp and pork dumplings, vegetarian spring rolls, and Chinese pancakes. It was so so good! I think the fried rice could use a little more flavor, but other than that, we scarfed everything else down. I did a pickup order and it was ready at the time I picked for pick up! We ordered 6 dim sum items and 2 dishes (1 veggie, 1 noodle dish) between 2 of us and we ended up with lots of left overs to take home. I think the problem is average to terrible service and good food. Since I don't mind avg service on a vacation, I thought my experience was just fine. After reading the Yelp reviews, my daughters and I decided to change up our normal dim sum game and come here for an early brunch. One of our deciding factors was that they opened early as we had an early performance to catch later in the day. I have to admit the service was great. Everyone is really friendly and helpful. Ambiance is ok...but we were here for the food. And as for that food, some things were better than our usual location and others...not so much. Shrimp dumplings: hands down the best I've ever had, even in Hong Kong! Shrimp was plump and tasty and the wrapper was perfect. Another score was the lemon chicken. Sauce wasn't too sweet and the chicken was nicely crisped. We also had the shu mai which we weren't wild about. Eldest daughter somehow ordered the chicken when we normally order pork and shrimp. The chicken didn't have much flavor and the wrapper was barely noticeable. Soup dumplings were tasty and the deep fried taro was different than what we were used to, but flavorful. I have to admit the menu is extensive so perhaps we should head back another time and try some other things. Inside, the décor is filled with charming touches: lucky cats, a Chinese calendar, a whiteboard in Mandarin, and round family-style dining tables with lazy Susans. We decided to place a to-go order: shrimp dumplings (har gow), shrimp dumplings with chives, and a large order of salted pepper string beans. The lady at the front pointed us to a QR code on the wall to place our order. She wasn't overly warm, but honestly, that's often a good sign that the food will speak for itself! A friendly gentleman was running back and forth from the kitchen, making sure our order was on track and reassuring us that it would be ready soon. We paid him in cash, picked up our food, and headed back to the hotel to dig in. The salted pepper green beans were *incredible*--hands down some of the best I've had at a Chinese restaurant. They were savory, garlicky, perfectly cooked with a slight crunch, and had just the right amount of spice without being overpowering. Definitely the highlight of the meal! The shrimp dumplings were plump and filled with generous portions of shrimp. The dumpling skin was a bit thick, but given the shrimp-to-skin ratio, it was still really satisfying. Shrimp rice rolls: the rice rolls were filled with shrimp. Not a lot of the soy sauce though which is on the sweeter side than normal soy sauce. Roast pork and roast duck: the pork was very juicy and tender. The skin was mostly crispy but on the harder side. The duck was super fatty and didn't have a lot of flavor or taste. After tirelessly walking around Chinatown we stopped by here for an early dinner before heading back to the hotel. We were craving Dim Sum and chose this restaurant because of the outstanding reviews. The restaurant is very outdated and I generally wouldn't step in judging from the entrance and interior because of how dirty it was. We were still a little full from lunch but wanted to sample Seattle's Dim Sum because this was our last day in the International District area. After being seated, we were informed menus and ordering were all done through a QR code. So if you're old-school and not tech-savvy then you're out of luck. Service was absent, we didn't see much of our waiter except when he dropped off our food. We ordered Har Gow, Siu Mai, and Honey Garlic Beef Short Ribs. The two Dim Sum dishes were good but not great and expensive compared to back home. The Honey Garlic Beef Short Ribs was bland and lacking major garlic flavor. There wasn't much meat either and were mostly bones and fat underneath. I heard and read many reviews about this dim sum place and decided to give it a try! I was stop passing through so I didn't order too much, but what I ordered was amazing. I had the Shrimp Dumplings ($5.75) also known as har gow, the Steamed Rice Rolls with Shrimp, ($5.75) and the Steamed Bean Curd Roll ($5.75). The prices are about average compared other dim sum places I've eaten at. I really enjoyed the Shrimp Dumplings and Steamed Bean Curd Roll; they were both so flavorful and had good ratio of filling to wrap. I felt that there was too much rice wrapping on the Steamed Rice Rolls with Shrimp and this dish felt bland. I chose to get takeout but their servers were polite and gave me chopsticks when I had asked for them. The restaurant is a hidden at the back of Chinatown and is a bit of a walk uphill but the view is nice! Ultimately, I would love to come back and try more of their dim sum if I get the chance to do so again. read more

Before visiting Seattle, I found through Yelp and other sources several must try dim sum places to go to and were in Chinese International District. Harbor City was one of the few I narrowed it down to, due to the ambiance of casual, family-owned, and family style dining. Harbor City Dim Sum was constantly bustling from when we arrive a little before 12 'til where we had to wait about 20minutes until a table was cleared to when we left with the eager, hungry patrons waiting to snag a seat and enjoy. All tables were consistently occupied with tables of 2 people to 10+. When we walked in we had to immediately write our name down with the number of people in your party otherwise you won't be seated. When we got seated they immediately checked to make sure we knew to scan the QR code and got our drink requests. There seemed to have a constant flow of orders and I came a little hangry which didn't help but I felt as if we were in good hands due to the fact they seemed prepared for the chaos. Personally I had technical difficulties with ordering due to hangry side effects but once our order was placed by my patient and dim sum eager partner-in-crime everything seemed to flow smoothly. In order to hit all the marks of an authentic Chinese/ dim sum experience we had ordered... - Steamed Chicken Buns(with shrimp inside) - Scallop Dumpling w/ Peavines - Chicken Feet - Roast Duck Noodle Soup (Flat Rice Noodle) On each table sat several condiments for patrons to doctor up their bites to their own liking from white pepper, chili flakes/ oil, soy sauce, and sweet-n-sour sauce.
