We ate here a couple years ago and really enjoyed it so we decided to return today and unfortunately it was pretty disappointing. OMG THE OIL. Probably the oiliest food I've ever had... The fish was shriveled up inside of the batter so it was basically like eating a big hunk of fried oily dough. No matter how many napkins I used, we couldn't stop sopping up the oil. I could see the people at the table next to us doing the same, so I knew it wasn't just our plate. Other than that, the portion sizes were fine and the french fries and coleslaw weren't bad. But the fish and the shrimp we're just barely palatable. read more

Great service, great location awesome setup both inside and out with view of the harbor and boats. Food was decent, not bad but not creating a memory. Fish /shrimp was good, fish sandwich was not what I expected at all. Broken fried fish stick in a MCD's burger bun. Maybe I was just expecting too much like a Pt Loma Seafoods sammich... I was really craving fish and chips and glad I came across this spot. I got the sampler which is a great value for all you get! You get a big piece of a fish, 2 shrimps, a lot of fries, clam chowder, and coleslaw, plus a bunch of sauces for dipping. All of it was very fresh and the breading was crisp. This place is right on the harbor but there's also a cute little surfers beach just a short walk away where I was able to eat and watch the sunset on the beach. This is a great fish and chip spot in Oceanside! read more

Service 5 the server was very helpful, friendly. Service was fast Ambiance - 4 its a beach vibe kind of restaurant, very relax, nice! Food 4 - the fish and chips was, crispy and flaky! The fish taco, the taste was good though the fish was kinda dry. The zucchini thing was really good. The clam chowder was ok too! This is a very fun, casual restaurant at the Oceanside Harbor. It's been there for as long as I can remember! I love the old school paintings on the walls and the big swordfish hanging from the ceiling. They are really good at frying food. The quality of the fish is great, but I think they put too much breading on their fish. This is a place where you order at the counter and pick up your food when they call your number. The prices are a bit high, but I think it's all about the location. If you love fish and chips, I think this is a great place to try. I think the servings are generous. I couldn't finish my order. read more

Honestly, I went here to eat and just got the sampler as it's a good choice to go with. Good wasn't great, the fish was oily and it was okay. Shrimp was fine, the fries a little soft for my taste. The slaw was nice, and the chowder was extremely boring and plain. Nothing was downright horrible, but it isn't really something I would want to pay money for to eat again. To be nice, the environment was nice, and the setting of the place was good. The server was also really nice and kind, so that was a plus on the establishment at least. Overall nothing was horrible, but wouldn't be a place I would necessarily recommend. read more

Stopped here tonight for dinner. We all ordered fish and chips.i had 2 pieces of fish and they were huge. Cooked nicely outside had light crisp coating . Fries were also good. The tartar sauce was actually not good. It was missing relish. Tasted like straight mayonnaise. Being from New England I know good tartar sauce. I would go again nice sitting on the dock price was not excessive. read more

Wow as you'd expect they know how to cook fish and chips! Portions are generous and flavorful. Love that it's cooked in avocado oil really light and not nearly as greasy or leaving that fat aftertaste. Clam strips were clean and perfectly cooked. Service is quick for fish etc seems a bit of a wait on burgers but then again why eat a burger here. Forgot to take pictures of the food of all the "taxidermies" read more

Omgosh! Fantastic fish and chips. Beat we've ever had. We've been all Over the coast and this place beats them all. The outside of the fish was crispy and the inside moist and flavorful! The ahrimp also too notch! Cole slaw also good. No one can beat the ambiance sitting outside looking at the boats in the harbor. The service was also excellent. Service: seated immediately, we chose the patio as we had our dogs with us and didn't want to disturb anyone. Very friendly hostess & wait staff, professional and courteous. Are you a sociopath? I have been enjoying Harbor Fish & Chips for almost 20 years. My wife for about 35+ some odd years give or take on a good day. This place is fantastic for families, tourists, and locals. Huge mix of people enjoying the fresh O-side taste. Don't be afraid of the lines or intimidated by the ordering counter. The people up there are friendly and ready to get you the right meal experience. The fish- mmmMMMMmmm. How else can you describe the perfect fried fish. I lived in Alaska and this is reminiscent of some the best I've ever had. Onion rings- crunchy and perfectly cooked. (No ranch available) The coleslaw - so fresh and dressed to perfection. Not under dressed like the people walking by. Not overdressed like being on an Amish farm. Burgers - if you're not a fish fan they have other menu items that will make you just as happy and full. Oceanside has more beautiful days than poor days. Enjoy a seat outside in the sun. If it's not your cup of tea then you can sit inside. If you're cold but want to see the harbor then there is a seat in the enclosed patio. Either way it's all first come/seat yourself. My Daughter recommended this location as I'm visiting from out of town and I wanted fish and chips. The fish was cooked to perfection. I wasn't keen on the chips, a.k.a. fries. I also ordered a fish taco and unfortunately the taco shell was poorly cooked!!! I've been recovering from a back + leg injury and was STOKED to get a green light to head out to beach with fam and friends. We picked one of the busiest days, and man, parking was a total nightmare. But man, these fish and chips made ALL the hassle to find parking worth it. I was craving something crispy to lift my spirits, and this spot delivered! The texture and crispiness was spot-on. It was precisely what we needed after spending a long day at the beach. The consistency and crispiness of the fish and chips delivered instantaneous comfort. It was the perfect thing to eat on our way out from Oceanside. The batter was slightly salty with a crunchy shell and had just the right amount of seasoning. Paired with a cold beer made it a solid pick to wrap up our day at Oceanside. No joke parking was a drag, but these fish and chips make everything ok. read more

First and last time here. Deep fried foods, Fish and fries or anything deep fried was using old oil. So nothing tastes fresh only greasy. Batter retains plenty of oil. Good luck if you try this place! read more

I asked Danny my friend to meet me at the Harbor Fish & Chips Restaurant at 4 p. m. today. Then we both parked in this free parking lot across the street from the Oceanside Harbor. We both walked towards the Oceanside Harbor Fish & Chips Restaurant. Me and Danny walked inside this restaurant, I had already saw about three customers who were waiting patiently in line to place their orders with Devin who was working at the front counter. Then it was my turn to place my order with Devin. Devin greeted me with his friendly personality. Devin then told me that he is ready to take my order now. I decided to order (one small bowl on the Clam Chowder), it includes one small package of salted crackers. The price was $7.00. I also ordered the (Large, 3 pieces of Cod Fish Fillets) it comes with either (Cole Slaw, Green Salad, French Fries or Baked Beans). I chose the (regular size French Fries). The price was $19.75. My beverage was the (one regular size cup on the Fanta Orange Soft Drink). The price was $3.50. My total bill was $30.25. Danny my friend he had ordered the exact same food on their menu. It had taken the cooks in the kitchen about 20 minutes to cook our order and then I heard Devin had called out my order number 42. Danny and I walked up to the front counter this afternoon and we separately picked up our own orders. I just wanted to sit down at a booth and eat my Clam Chowder and my 3 pieces of my Cod Fish Fillets with my French Fries during our dinner time meal. Danny finally had chosen a good booth for us to sit down and eat our food. I then walked over to the condiments area located in the back part of their restaurant. I filled up one small container with just Ketchup in it. The other small container I filled up with their Tartar Sauce to dip my 3 pieces of these Cod Fish Fillets into. Then I walked back towards our booth and I sat down again. I ate the Clam Chowder with the salted crackers that I had used as the topping. Their Clam Chowder has pieces of potatoes, fresh clams, and parsley in a creamy based soup. This clam chowder was as I remember it which was very hearty tasting. Then I used a plastic fork to cut in half one of these large size Cod Fish Fillets. The outer piece was deep fried to a golden brown color and the exterior was very crispy. The Cod Fish Fillet was really flavorful and delicious! My Fanta Orange Soft Drink was the perfect beverage to quench my thirst. I enjoyed eating two of these really large pieces of these Cod Fish Fillets and I also ate some of the French Fries. I was very full and I couldn't eat the third piece of the Cod Fish Fillet and I also had left over French Fries. Danny my friend ate everything. Danny said he also had enjoyed eating the 3 pieces of the Cod Fish Fillets and their Clam Chowder. I couldn't eat another bite. I asked Devin if he can give me a box and a bag to bring my left over food home with me. Devin was very helpful in giving me a large size box and he also gave me a bag to go along with my box to place my left overs into. Devin's friendly personality made me feel good about eating at their Oceanside Harbor Fish & Chips Restaurant. I received excellent customer service from Devin. I told Devin I will come back again at a later date and eat at their restaurant again. read more

Super huge ginormous fish and chips! You order your meal at the front and then seat yourself and pickup at the counter. There is outside seating right in front of the harbor. We got the captain's special to share as it was HUGE. Came with a lot of fries, 2 shrimp and 2 fish. Tartar sauce tasted super yummy with the fish and shrimp. The piece of shrimp was giant and juicy. Fish was a bit thin, but it was a good batter to fish ratio. Super crowded around lunchtime. read more

Really enjoyed this spot before the drive back to AZ. The people were really friendly and helpful when ordering and the food was phenomenal! The batter on the fried fish was light and crispy and the coleslaw was exactly what coleslaw should be creamy with a slight crisp and very tasty. And especially loved the clam chowder and wish I could have ate a gallon of it. We will definitely be returning next time we are in town. We also thoroughly enjoyed sitting outside at a bench taking in all the activity of the marina. read more

It's not often that fried fish comes out not tasting too "fried" or greasy. Not only are these pieces of fish huge, but they manage to make some huge and tasty fried zucchini as well - which is not to be missed! Yes, I've been to England and had fish & chips over there...Harbor Fish & Chips are the closest I've had (in size and taste) this side of them pond! If you're in San Diego (like myself) and have a craving for legit fish & chips, this place is well worth the drive. The location adds to the fun of it all as well. The food was fresh and amazing. They now use avocado oil to fry in making the fish light and crispy. The fish and chips basket came with either coleslaw or French fries. Both were equally delicious! As a family owned and operated business Harbor Fish and Chips has been a mainstay at the Harbor for over 50 years. Harbor Fish and Chips has been recognized several times in magazines and on local T. V. for our authentic fish and chips, fish tacos and seafood menu. Our commitment to preparing great tasting food and offering diners a fun, casual atmosphere has won us many fans over the years. Our owner, Terry Cross, was born and raised in Oceanside. Terry has continued the family tradition at Harbor Fish and Chips by keeping the quality of food at a high standard, while establishing a friendly - fun customer service atmosphere. This has made his restaurant one of the local's favorites. Right from the start, we had kids with us, but the hosts never mentioned or provided a kids menu. Later, the server gave us one only after we asked if they even had a kids menu. Honestly, it felt like we probably would not have seen it at all if we hadn't asked. The food itself was okay other then meats being really dried and corn half done in water, the soup was good but the service hurt the overall experience. After we got our food, we needed a few things throughout the meal, but our server was almost nowhere to be found. We asked another server for help, and he mentioned she was doing side work/closing duties. We were there around 8-9 PM, so that part is understandable, but someone should have communicated that another server would be helping our table. That felt like a pretty basic service mistake. We also ordered a Baja Bucket, but later noticed there was a holiday bucket for about $10 more that included more seafood and seemed like a much better deal. The server should have mentioned that option or at least tried to upsell it so we could make a better choice. Another issue was the salad/sauce bar. Nobody mentioned it to us at all. We asked for salsa, and the server simply brought some out instead of mentioning there was a salsa bar available. Small details like this really affect the dining experience, and I think we would have enjoyed our meal more if things had been explained properly. Lastly, the restaurant adds a 5% surcharge supposedly to pay employees better. But if customers are paying extra fees and menu prices are already going up, the service should reflect that. Comparing the menus from 2025 to 2026, the bucket prices already increased by around $10. At that point, it would make more sense to simply raise menu prices and let customers decide if the food and service are worth it instead of adding extra surcharges. Overall, the seafood okay, but the lack of communication and service definitely left a disappointing first impression

Their coffee was delicious! I ordered the lemon ricotta pancakes, and they were moist and surprisingly, very citrusy and slightly tart which was balanced with a few dollops of lemon curd that was on the plate. I also ordered a coffee cake, which I did not end up eating however, when I had it as a midnight snack later, it was delicious. It was so buttery, especially on top where the crumble was. It was the perfect blend of sweet and salty. My daughter ordered the Hawaiian style fried rice. We were pleasantly surprised that the spam on the plate is homemade spam and not the kind you get from the can. It definitely tasted a lot better than the kind you get from the can. Sidenote: I am a fan of the one you get on the can, however! The fried rice was fried with kimchi, pineapple, green onion, and toasted sesame oil. The plate came with a thin omelette on top.
