Stopped by to get bbq while on a quick trip to Dallas and loved the experience here! I came for lunch by myself so I knew I couldn't get that much food but was able to try a bit of everything since you can choose how much you want. The minute you walk in, you're right in the smoker and grill section. The smoke definitely fills the entrance space and be warned you'll leave smelling like bbq as well. Once you get to the ordering area, the various cuts of meat are displayed in front of you, making it a great experience to pick out what you want. Rather than ordering by weight, I'd suggest ordering by slice if you're by yourself or with a small group so you can really try everything. I got a mix of brisket, pork ribs, pulled pork, and sausage with cole slaw and a slice of bread on the side. It pains me to write this review, but I was pretty bummed about my experience at Hard Eight. The people were nice, but the food was not my favorite, especially considering how much good BBQ we have had in the area. I do love how they have so many different types of meat to try, more than most bbq spots, so it was fun trying different stuff. Brisket - They cut their brisket a little different, they will stack multiple flats and slice it up. I got some of the point side, but there was hardly any bark. The meat was tender but the flavor was lacking. Pork ribs - pretty tender, but I must have gotten the end of the rack, a little unruly. Bologna - Not bad, but not much more interesting than any other bologna ive had. Spicy sausage - probably my favorite meat, really solid. Coleslaw - typical run of the mill mayo-based coleslaw Creamed corn - Pretty good, but very sweet. The restaurant as a whole reminded me of eating at Knott's Berry Farm. read more

Hard Eight BBQ gives a wonderful first impression when you enter the place and are hit by the smell of smoked meats as soon as you enter the door. Prices are very reasonable and meet or beat high end bbq prices from 6-8 years ago with most of their meats being $22 a pound. Very affordable if you a looking for bbq on a budget. I ordered a half pound of brisket and non-spicy sausage and with a drink my total with tax came out to about $27. Sadly though, I was sort of underwhelmed by the bbq itself despite a lot of early promise. The sausage was unremarkable but ok and the brisket was under seasoned and mostly flavorless and pretty disappointing. Thankfully you can load up on bbq sauce by the ladle full and it is actually a pretty good tasting one. Average bbq is still pretty decent and to be fair they are likely asking a reasonable price the quality they are serving up. BBQ is a bit of a rare treat for me and as a brisket lover I think I'd be more likely to try somewhere else next time I am in the mood though. read more

Husband got the brisket sandwich, we also got some sausage, a couple of bacon wrapped chicken jalapeno poppers, fried okra and I had a side of the twice baked potato salad. We were both a little disappointed in the brisket as it was on the dry side, but it had a good flavor and smoke to it. If I could give ZERO stars I would. The managers here let their employees talk to you and treat you like complete trash. I have never been in an establishment that allowed this behavior to the point the manager had to hold back his employee to keep her from coming at me. Yeah... where to begin? How about this... PHENOMENAL BBQ!! We were in the nearby area checking out a furniture store in Nebraska and decided to find a place to chow. When in TX, I'm always on a quest to find the BEST Smokehouse BBQ. So, we followed our noses and it led us to Hard Eight BBQ just down the road a bit. Man O man!! This place did not disappoint! From the service, the ambiance, the food, the overall experience... wow!! Top notch for sure! It almost had a steampunk vibe when we first walked in. Looked like pipes, chimneys, smokers and grills all over the place. From when we first entered, it was like a snake line weaving us to the front, where the actual food was being prepared. Once we were within eyeshot (only took about 10 minutes total to get through the line) of the food... it was on like Donkey Kong!! What to choose? So many choices. Ended up getting 1/2 lb. of the brisket (of course), 1/2 lb. of the ribs (about 4 fat ribs), and a jalapeños sausage (pretty long stick). That was just the meat room. Once we ordered, the Guardians of Smoke sliced and diced, put it on a tray, and off into another room we went. Welcome to the actual restaurant portion and all other foods. They had cafeteria style of sides already prepared for your choosing. I got the potato salad, and them beans. Got some homemade Q sauce, got my beans, and we were ready to find a spot to sit down and grub. The ambiance was unique and fun, and of course the food... THE MEAT! For starters, the brisket slices (3-4) were so juicy and tender, very flavorful. The ribs were my favorite. Man the meat just pulled right off the bone. Not too tender where it fell off before biting into it, but it didn't take much resistance to pull chards of pork off them bones. I'm hungry again as I write this. The sausage... wow. Just wow! A perfect compliment to the meal and easily shareable with my wife. She had ordered a smoked turkey baked potato!! And I'll be damned if that wasn't mouthwatering, as well. While in Texas had to try some BBQ. Knew it would be different than what we are used to (Kansas City) but it would be a million times better than the bbq we have where we live. Was not expecting the layout/experience this was. You walk into an inside/outdoor ish area where they have the pit fires. You request the meat that you want by the pound, they measure it and put it on a tray, then you go inside and can get sides (cafeteria style). They have soft drinks, tea, and there is a bar for drinks. For meat we got a half pound of brisket, a quarter pound of turkey, a quarter pound of sirloin, a chicken popper and a shrimp popper. We got onion rings, jalapeño sweet corn, corn on the cob, twice baked potato salad and mac and cheese. They have pinto beans near the drinks that you can eat while there. The brisket: amazing. Sweet, tender and smoky. Loved Sirloin:one of the best cuts of meat I have ever had. Was tender, perfectly cooked and delicious. (this meat was WAY better than the sirloin I had at Fugo de Chao and CHEAPER) Turkey-moist and juicy, smoky flavor. I ate it all so fast my kid was mad they didn't get any. Luckily someone else in our party shared with them chicken popper: meh. Not good. Could taste chicken and that was about it. Shimp popper: they gave us 2 chicken poppers and no shrimp Sides: onion rings were a no for me. I took one bite and gave it to someone else to eat. I think it was the batter. I saw trash cans so thought we had to bus the table ourselves but there were people who came and collected trays. They came and took one tray from our table but left 3 there. Service at the pit where you order meat was great. We had never been to a place like this and had questions and they were patient with us and allowed us to ask questions. Staff at the indoor area seemed confused. We ordered onion rings and they are supposed to give you a flag but they did not and I had to ask for it. I'm am very upset!! This situation was handled poorly and it's a shame because I love this place but I will not be revisiting after this experience. I place a $60 order through door dash ended up being $36 for hard eight. I didn't get my Mac and cheese instead they gave me jalapeño cream corn. Which I can't handle any heat and was wanting my Mac and cheese I paid for. Okay handled that issue with door dash they gave me a refund for that then I go to eat my sandwich and there is little to no edible meat, a large long piece of skin and a bunch of chunks of fat that are all inedible. Also I ordered a pulled pork sandwich. I tried to report on door dash and they said they weren't able to process the refund, probably because I had already processed the corn. At which time I called the store because this is my lunch, I am hungry and just spent $60 and all I was able to eat for lunch was a baked potato, the only thing that was right. When I got on the phone with the manager she proceeded to tell me to contact DoorDash and when I told her I did contact DoorDash and they issued a refund for the corn but not for the sandwich and if I could just come in and get a new sandwich and I would bring her this sandwich so she could see the meat and how inedible it is, I even offered to send pictures as well. She told me that there was nothing she could do and to send in the pictures to use it as a learning experience for next time. So I just don't get to eat lunch and I get screwed out of a $14 sandwich. She was very passive and had no means of trying to help me in this situation. She just continued to repeat herself and explain that it's all through DoorDash, I know how DoorDash works, and I'm not getting issued the refund and they collected the money for the sandwich so the only person who gets screwed in this situation is me who paid for the sandwich and doesn't get to eat lunch. I'm absolutely appalled the way that she handled the situation. It's a very simple fix. Just make me a new sandwich. I understand not the corn because I did already get a refund and I also have proof of all this on my DoorDash that I was willing to show as well. If a paying customer got inedible food from your establishment. The right thing to do is to give them the food that they paid for so that they can eat. She just kept passing it on to DoorDash like it was DoorDash's fault, but they served me this me and I was not able to eat it! It's not door dash's fault you served me fat and skin!!! read more

Stopped in for lunch since I was in the area with my sister who was from out of state, she wanted chicken so we chose this location for BBQ chicken, we were served almost immediately and I had a chopped brisket sandwich, bun was a little dry and stale, I grabbed a creamed corn and twice baked potato salad (which I love at the location closer to us) and of course the beans, brisket was good and flavorful, if it was a different type of bun it would have been amazing, the creamed corn was good and creamy, but the potato salad had too much mayonnaise, and the beans were also pretty good almost the best on the plates. We got the brisket, beef ribs, prime rib, pork ribs, jalapeno sausage, and baloney. Then you go to the other room and grab your sides. We got the Mac and cheese, potato salad, creamed corn, fried okra, and they give you bread for free. Also got the pecan pie. All the meats were delicious AF!!! Beautiful perfect smoke ring on the meats. In every bite there was that smokey slow roasted goodness that separates Texas bbq from all others!! I was in love!!!! All the meats were tender and juicy!! So, I swung by HardEight BBQ for the second time after leaving a meeting, hoping for another tasty experience like my first visit. I gotta say, this time around was a bit of a letdown. As soon as I walked in, I noticed the sight of them smoking the meat, but I couldn't shake the feeling that it might be more for show than actual flavor. This was the worst BBQ Brisket I've ever had. I opted for a brisket sandwich with fries. Now, I've got to call out that brisket --it was dry and seemed to have an unusual amount of fat in it. Not exactly what I was hoping for. But on the bright side, the fries were an absolute win! Fresh, crispy, and seasoned to perfection. Oh, and I decided to try their free beans this time around. If you haven't been and decide to dine in you get all the beans you can eat lol. Surprisingly, those beans were a highlight! They were so tasty, which left me scratching my head a bit. I've eaten at this Hard Eight BBQ three times now. Each time I've been highly impressed by the atmosphere but not overly impressed with the bbq. The turkey is plain and nothing to write home about. It just doesn't taste like it's trying to be unique or that it's a item on the menu that they care much about. Ribs were dryer than usual this past time, tender, but dry. More dry than what I'm use to even for Texas bbq. The corn on the cob was overly done. All the kernels had shrunken up and it wasn't juicy. Tbh I only had a few bites because it was just overcooked. The concept is great as you can try a bunch of different BBQed meats. I went with the turkey and pulled pork and loved them both. Tender and flavorful. My husband had a little bit of everything - brisket, ribs, and sausage. He didn't have a favorite because he loved them all! I had a side of sweet potato fries that were delicious. My husband went with a side of fried okra. Both were a real generous portion so we had plenty to take home with the meat we didn't finish. The ambiance is a classic bbq restaurant with plenty of paper towels on rolls at the table side so you always have more handy when needed. The prime rib was fine, it's something different. The beef rib is a must try, it would probably be my favorite among the bunch. Food not nearly as good as Hutchins, Hard Eight offers acceptable BBQ in a somewhat funner environment. The building is a huge warehouse, and the line goes out the door into the parking lot to order food, yet moves fast. You almost feel like you are in an amusement park ride and excitement mounts as you enter the huge metal building filled with wood, smoke and fire. Steaks can be ordered early and are cooked to order. The meat station is filled with all the usual suspects, sausage, chicken, brisket, pulled pork, ribs and also grilled sweet potatoes, baked potato and corn on the cob. Order by the piece/pound like most BBQ places in Texas. Inside the main dining area, you order other sides at more stations, plus all you can eat beans - I was in the mood for fries. The dining area is enormous and truthfully, quite fun. Lots of families, couples, groups and yes, a FULL BAR! Now for food. It's OK. If you never had Texas BBQ, you'd say it was great. The brisket ended up as a blob of shredded meat instead of nice slices.
