The food court is always busy - so much so that you need to eagle eye spot the next available chair and hover for a time in swoop else that chair is going to someone else - and this place consistently has the longest time. The fish was small thin slices - I would have preferred larger pieces that had a better shot of not being over cooked. But this is good food at its most affordable. BEWARE: Owners have changed. If you wondered you don't recognize any of the staff, it's because the restaurant has changed hands. And quality IS NOT the same. I have eaten here since I was a kid and my dad loved grabbing take out from here. Cheap and filling and delicious. Now, with half the staff, orders take 3-4 times as long, and prices have definitely increased. If that was all, I would not write a review, but the actual food doesn't taste the same and I can't overlook that. Wontons are filled with some kind of dough filler and minced meat with almost no shrimp. Ho Fun and Rice Dishes are look and taste like someone cut corners. The only thing that still tastes ok is their porridge but it also taste like they added 2-3x more MSG to help it taste better. After being a customer for over 20 years, this really makes me really sad as it's another restaurant that couldn't survive the aging and retirement of the original. Got the beef chow fun. This last time, pretty bland and noodle was a little soggy. But it's a lot of serving for 11 bucks. Probably feed 3 normal people. Yesterday, I ordered the rice porridge for breakfast and it taste good. However, soon after, I felt a strong need to drink water. I was supposed to eat the wonton beef tripe lo mein for dinner. I ate the noodles first and it taste like soap. Also, there was a strong gamey smell from the beef tripes and almost made up threw up. The wontons had more pork and one very tiny shrimp. The whole dish had no favor. I also ordered fish rice noodles. It turned out it was just a very heavy dough (see pic). The portion side was good, but unfortunately I could not eat it. After, from Yelp reviews, I realized the restaurant management has been changed. No wonder I couldn't recognize the staff who used to work there, and there was no crowd lining up to order foods. I had really high hopes for this place given the reviews and the line that I always see when I get to this food court. After trying this place twice, I will pass the next time I'm there. Pros: - they work hard and turn food out pretty quick. I like the open kitchen concept so you can see them cooking each dish. - the serving size of the dishes were large. They were thin noodles, over cooked, and just drenched in oil. It was pretty disgusting to me. The gravy sauce was just ok, but at least much better than the noodles - communication issues. I totally get that I'm in the SGV. I unfortunately don't speak Chinese so it was hard to communicate. In my second visit, I knew I didn't like the crispy noodle dish, so I looked for something else. It was closer to closing time so they were sold out on some items, but I ultimately ordered the beef chow mein. Within 5-7 mins, the lady calls me to pick up my order. When I opened up everything (I ordered to go), I got the crispy noodles with gravy sauce! You can tell I was extremely disappointed. Overall, I don't plan on trying this place again. Maybe I'll be brave enough one day, especially since they always have a line, but it won't be soon (trying to get this crispy noodle fiasco out of my mind). My family always adds a wrapped rice noodle dish that tastes divine with sweet soy sauce as well. Service: 4/5 It's a hole in the wall stand in Square Grocery mart. You can't expect much with service. But as the stand with the greatest line in the square, you already know that the food makes up for it. They close on Wednesday's and make sure to bring cash. This place is a hidden SGV staple and gem, and it's been a staple in my family for many, many years. So much so, I remember coming here as a little boy, trying to finish my noodles as fast as possible so I could play at Funland in the space where the home goods store is now. Nostalgia aside, the food and prices here have stood the test of time and are just as good now as they were back then. The portions here are smaller than at most other Chinese noodle places; however, the rich flavors more than make up for that. There's lots of different noodle bowls here with all different kinds of meats, fresh cheung funs with all sorts of fillings, and other comforting Chinese dishes that are not to be missed. I usually come here and get my usual beef stew with wonton noodles. It's right under $9, which feels like an absolute steal these days! I appreciate how they use a thick egg noodle that's not overly cooked and has a nice bite to it. It gives it some room to absorb some of the rich, meaty broth it's in with everything else. The beef stew is plentiful, with lots of very tender beef chunks and soft tendon pieces. The wonton, which they make themselves, are perfectly plump with meat and shrimp. A gai lan veggie is thrown in for good measure, and paired with their AMAZING chili oil (that I absolutely cannot have enough of) makes for a comforting, filling and warm meal for your soul at any time of the day. If you're wanting something cheap and filling, this is the place to go! I tried coming in last month on a Monday to try their beef stew noodle with gravy. I went in and it's closed. No real sign or anything to say when they will reopen or if they are even in business. The phones were ringing nonstop and nobody was there to answer. There was a sign last time that said it was closed on Wednesdays. I come back today a month ish later on a Thursday and it's open! There is still a current sign that says it's closed on Wednesdays, so I guess that is probably still valid. I called in first to make sure someone at least picked up the phone before driving over there. So I recommend you do the same if you want to be sure it's open. I ordered a beef noodle dry (aka #45 beef with fried rice noodle- $9)and beef noodle with gravy (aka #46 beef stew with fried rice noodle- $9.25). It came out to be $20.26. I paid with cash. I'm not sure if they take card or not because I didn't see a sign that said cash only but everyone ordering before me and after me all paid in cash. The dry beef noodle was okay. I felt like it lacked the flavor that you would typically get with this dish. I was expecting more soy sauce like flavors. The noodles were brown so I know there was some sauce that was stir fried in but it lacked any of the flavor. It was a little bit oily but it's also expected with this type of noodle. The noodles were surprisingly still in long pieces when you pick it up with chopsticks. Meaning, the chef that stir fried it knew what they were doing because it was still put together and not all broken up. This dish comes with beef, bean sprouts and a little bit of green onion. The beef had a smoky flavor to it and was tender. The portions were large at about $10, it's a good deal. I also think some of the traditional hot sauce you get at Asian restaurants would go well with this so it can at least enhance the flavor a bit. The beef noodle with gravy was pretty good. There was gravy overflowing in the box which is great because that means there is plenty of opportunity to mix the noodle into the sauce. Flavor wise, it was pretty good, it tastes like the oyster sauce you typically can get at an Asian market but not as salty. This box was decently sized and comes with Chinese broccoli and beef. The noodles in this dish was a little disappointing because it was all broken up. It was the opposite of what I experienced with the dry beef noodle. Perhaps the gravy makes it break up easier? I'm not too sure what happened with the noodles on this one. The Chinese broccoli was a little bitter but the beef was tender and good. If you want to add a bit of spice to it, I recommend getting some hot sauce. I ate mine with the Trader Joe's chili onion crunch sauce. I regret not added it earlier into my meal because it helped add to the dry beef noodle and it gave a nice kick to the beef noodle with gravy. If I had to choose one over the other, I'd pick the beef noodle with gravy even tho the noodles were broken in pieces there was more flavor in dish. Overall, good prices for portions given and a short wait for food to be ready. Pretty average taste but settled the cravings if needed. read more

Just stopped by today for lunch! Got 2 orders of beef chow fun, one order of rice roll wrapped fried crueller, and one order of the dumpling noodle soup. My total came out to $29.84. My food was ready to pick up after a few minutes of ordering so it was pretty quick. Before covid, I would come here a lot especially since I was a child. I loved the food inside the food court, everything was affordable and delicious. Now quality downgraded and don't get me wrong, it's still alright but I wouldn't want to come here after eating today. I grew up eating here. My childhood is this little tiny restaurant located right next to the restroom I use to use while waiting for our food. This tiny stall is truly an authentic find. A no-nonsense Mom and Pop shop serving Cantonese breakfast/lunch items in the GW Food Court. There is often a line, though it seems to move pretty fast. Cash only establishment. I opted for the thousand year egg and pork congee, which was piping hot and filled to the brim, as well as the fried Chinese cruller wrapped in rice sheet. The cruller wrapped in rice sheet was, without a doubt, the highlight of the meal. The rice sheet was so soft, fresh, and silky, which went perfectly with the fried cruller that soaked up all of the sweet soy sauce typically served with this dish. I liked the congee because it reminds me of home, but not sure that people who didn't grow up eating this would be as content as I was with the dish. Harlam's Kitchen is located inside the Food Court next to GW Supermarket. There's a lot of people but there are also a lot of people at this plaza so parking can sometimes be hectic. We really wanted some Chinese Donut Roll with Rice Sheet Roll but did not want to get dim sum so we're glad we were able to find this gem. We also got a side of Rice Sheet Roll with Beef and Beef Tripe Lo Mein. Honestly, for the price we paid, the portions were much more than you would get at a dim sum restaurant so you bet we will be coming back here more often. My sister and I arrived there at 10:15 am on Thanksgiving morning in November. There was a line of people ordering food. The owner said #3 was sold out-Chinese doughnut wrapped in rice flour was sold out. So we ordered beef cheung fun and beef chow fun with wonton noodle soup. We didn't wait too long for our food. The beef cheung fun was wrapped in plastic and still warm and fresh. It literally melt in my mouth. I also had a couple of spoons full of beef chow fun and that was good too. I was too full to try the wonton noodle soup so my mother ate the wontons and drank some broth. Overall everything was delicious.
