Harmon's Dairy Bar gets bonus points for the views! Sometimes I forget just how beautiful Scarborough is, but enjoying an ice cream while overlooking the horizon reminds me. This off-the-beaten-path ice cream shack is a classic Maine spot -- you've got soft serve, hard serve, high school kids behind the counter, and delicious ice creams and milkshakes. What really sets Harmon's apart, though, is the ambiance. It gives off those quintessential small-town Maine vibes, which I love. They have plenty of Adirondack chairs overlooking the hills; it is such a beautiful and peaceful place to relax. The ice cream is tasty, but honestly, it's not much different from other shops, and the prices are definitely on the higher side. HOLY MOLY. How has this place missed my radar? We're house/dog sitting right down the road from Harmon's and were so excited to see this come up on Yelp! Harmon's is a teeny-tiny ice cream stand with a beautiful view. I'm sad I didn't grab a photo of their menu, but they have a healthy selection of both soft and hard serve ice cream. My husband selected 'golden vanilla' which thick and rich - exactly what you want with a warm brownie or apple pie. I chose blueberries and cream and my GAHHHH I sure am glad I did. It was an explosion of flavor, and gradient in color and absolutely friggin' delightful. I had previously designated the Dairy Corner in Scarborough as the best blueberry ice cream - but I was wrong. This is it. Please, get it. There's a gorgeous view and generous seating around the back of the building, this place is fantastic. We'll absolutely drive out here from Saco to get this scoop again. read more

This ice cream stand has been a hot or miss for us. Here are the positives: - Supporting local business is always fantastic - Not a lot of soft serve options around so this is pretty cool - Family business and it shows Here are the negatives: - We have been there many times as the hours state what they are and they have been closed for no reason with no communication as to why. - Prices ... I think that my wife and I got a small soft serve on a cone for almost 15 dollars (This is almost 8 dollars per small???) - The flavored soft serve tasted a little artificial and not just a creamy delight If you are looking for something to give you a sweet tooth option and you are in a pinch after spending time at the beach, give em a try ... there are plenty of great reviews of people who like it here to hype them up! read more

An ice cream stand is an ice cream stand is an ice cream stand. Each one has to find their own way of delineating from the herd and standing out in the crowd. I admit I have only actually purchased ice cream here once, but that is largely due to its location on the far far end of route 77. I did not find the menu especially diverse or offering things that would make me drive out of my way. And I admit, I have personal bias towards the places I grew up going to... for example reds dairy freeze and South Portland. I'm sure people who go here every season enjoy it for a real reason. It just doesn't appeal to me. read more

My husband and I almost didn't go here because of a poor review, but then I realized that only Voldemort's cousin would give one star to an ice cream shack (I mean, it's ICE CREAM) so we decided to try it anyway. And so glad we did! The soft serve was delicious, the staff was friendly, and the location is great - right on the way to the beaches. They even gave us a little "pup cup" for our dog. We will definitely be back! read more

We live in Scarborough and have been to Harmons a few times this summer. Before we first went, read one negative review and almost didn't go but decided to give it a shot. For hard ice cream Kettle Cove is best, but for soft serve Harmons beats Kettle Cove and the Dairy Corner in Scarborough easily. Go with the traditional vanilla and chocolate twist, vanilla or just chocolate. A nice outdoor area adjacent farm land with outdoor picnic tables to eat your ice cream. Recommend! read more

Delicios ice cream and sorbet. Best tropical flavored sorbet I ever had. Waffle cone can be better. Sugar was better and the coconut ice cream was also very good. I loved my tropical sorbet. My friends and the kids truly enjoyed the cocunt ice cream. It was a cute little place with outdoor seating next to a farm view. Highly recommended and will come back before we leave Maine. New York attitude delivered straight to Maine-Horrible service and "ice-cream" combined! Harmon's has a great location near the beaches so I was very excited to see it open. However, it's location is the only good thing about it. The service was deplorable: the first time I went I had a vanilla soft serve cone dipped in butterscotch but it was only half dipped. Hence, the bottom half of the ice cream melted making a huge mess napkins couldn't touch before I had finished even half of it. I chalked it up to their being new and working the kinks out. The second time I went, I ordered the same thing and it was only half covered so again, the water thin soft serve ice cream started leaking all over the place before I could even begin to eat it. I asked the staff to dip it again to cover the holes and explained how they had messed up the coating last time and it was even worse this time. I received a shrug from the manager and then she said, "it will be 58 cents if you want another coating". At that point 1 minute later, my hand was covered in a soup of soft-serve so I threw it away. The manager soporifically then said, "I'm sorry about that. Goodbye". I haven't had that poor a customer service experience in decades. The soft serve was abysmal and my daughter couldn't even eat more than a spoonful of the "flavored" ice cream (which is just vanilla soft-serve with syrup mixed into it). Go to kettle cove creamery in Cape Elizabeth down the road if you want friendly folks serving real ice-cream for the same price. read more

Wonderful ice cream so close to Higgins Beach! This is a great family run ice cream shop and farm stand. We love the Peggy's favorite sundae and that we can have farm fresh blueberries with our ice cream. The staff is always pleasant and helpful. We will be back for more soon! read more

I…read morehave seen stuff about their cakes through social media and they looked good, just never made our way here. That changed after seeing their limited time Biscoff Cookie Butter flavored cake. My wife and I really wanted to try this flavor. Located in the busy Scarborough Walmart plaza area. Located right next to Jersey Mike's with plenty of parking nearby. Walking inside you will instantly have your eyes catching all of the delicious looking Bundt cakes staring back. They have a huge variety of flavors available including the Biscoff speciality and another limited flavor "New-Fashioned Marble". Due to wanting to try both of the limited flavors we decided to grab one of each of their smaller sized cakes aptly named Bundtlets. The staff member was friendly and it took no time to receive the cakes. Gladly we were able to enjoy the cakes once we got home and they were great! Both cakes were excellently made and the smaller sized ones were perfect to enjoy with no leftovers. The frostings used leaned quite sweet so for larger cakes it maybe would have been too much. They are limited flavors but if either one sounds tempting to you make your way here before they go away! Look forward to returning in the future to try out more flavors. Worth giving a try!

I've gotten less ice cream for more $$. There is limited seating outside however we got lucky and scored two of the Adirondack chairs out front. I would highly recommend getting some ice cream if you are on the island!

I purchased the chocolate coconut, powdered chocolate, strawberry and cinnamon sugar flavors. My favorite was the coconut but they were all stellar and fresh with a great moist texture. Staff were sweet and helpful and happy to answer questions and take care of me. They had a range of cookies, brownies, and other baked goods that all looked delicious as well as some coffee and tea.
