I absolutely loved it, I went on a Tuesday night and i was surprised there was people there! Wasn't so busy which was good, did not have to wait for a table as well. My first time keep that in mind! I got everything ON THAT MENU! I got 2 appetizer the meatballs and chips with guacamole! SUCH A 10 They were both so good loved the bread with the meatballs the sauce everything was so good. First time in Indy and wanted to do exactly what everyone else wanted to.. go to St Elmo's but booked until 9:30pm . So I went to this sister restaurant next door and had an enjoyable experience. Food excellent-same famous shrimp cocktail as St Elmo's (pricey $20 for 4 jumbos) was excellent and spicy and fresh horseradish for sure. Filet was excellent a bit off in cooking but meat was incredible and the horseradish Gorgonzola butter was $5 and worth it. The red skin mashed potatoes were fabulous. For a $108 price tag it was worth it. Service was good. It is a rather loud environment. Food delivery was a bit off with a 30 gap between shrimp and entree. Nothing offered which is disappointing. I use to eat at Harry & Izzy's often and it was one of my fave restaurants. I will wish they'd bring back the chopped steak with the Gorgonzola topping. I was here for a dinner on a Saturday evening and considering that it was a very busy evening for downtown restaurants as this was the weekend of many Halloween parties, I am giving a 4 star instead of 3 stars for my experience. We made a reservation on OpenTable almost a month ago. We parked at the Circle Center Mall in the blue garage, and as some others pointed out in their reviews, there was no signage indicating which side Harry and Izzy's is. We arrived at the restaurant and there were 3 more parties ahead of us (all with reservations) that were waiting to get seated so the check in area was crowded. They don't validate parking tickets which is pretty common for many restaurants in the area. As we were being shown our table, I noticed how busy the restaurant and the kitchen was at that time so we decided to put in our order quickly. The restaurant was lively and loud as expected on a Saturday evening. Our server, Mary, was prompt to check in with us and ask our dietary restrictions. She preferred calling a manager (his name was Austin) to ensure that everything we requested for the dietary restrictions can be accommodated by the kitchen. Among appetizers, we ordered calamari and scallops. Calamari was freshly fried and came with a delicious, creamy dip (not the standard cocktail sauce). For main course, I ordered the blackened Atlantic cod while the others in my party got the filet and Radiatori pasta. The cod by default comes with green beans but the server was happy to switch it with Brussel sprouts, no bacon, which I appreciated. Our appetizers took 30 minutes to arrive and our main course took 45 minutes from the time we placed the order, which was disappointing given that the server told us both times that our food will be right out. The blackened cod was soft and tender, and well seasoned. Presentation was average but I was glad that the food was warm and tasted well. My side of Brussel sprouts was well-seasoned and slightly spicy which I enjoyed. The filet and pasta were both impressive but the pasta only had a couple chunks of chicken. As I was eating through my Brussel sprouts side, I noticed a chunk of bacon even though I'd specifically asked for no bacon. Because we'd already been waiting for too long, I decided to skip the rest and didn't ask to get the side replaced. We were at the restaurant for over 2 hours, which seemed a tad bit long for 2 appetizers and 3 entrees, and no beverages. read more

The ribeye was cooked perfectly (after switching it with my friend because they confused our steaks), but the brussel sprouts weren't the best. They weren't crispy at all, so be warned of that. The bacon appetizer was good. Make sure you request a bread basket because they don't automatically bring you one. The bread was AMAZING. They serve milk for kids used to serve chocolate milk but now they don't, but the regular milk is still good. I got to start chips and guacamole their handmade from the kitchen one of the best walk that I've ever had at a sitdown restaurant. I took my partner for dinner to celebrate his birthday and they provided a table with a card and red decorations. We loved it. I ordered the shrimp cocktail for my starter and my partner ordered the meatballs (both were delicious). The three meatballs were flavorful and a large size. The shrimp cocktail had 4 shrimp and was drowned in the horseradish. I would have preferred the horseradish was on the side or two dollops on top. My main entree was the salmon with mashed potatoes. My partner ordered the filet mignon (tip: medium well instead of well done-the steak was dry). We added on broccolini which I didn't know included cheese which I didn't like. We ordered a ribeye steak ($55) in the Midwest right so it should have been amazing so we were excited to try it. NOT! The steak was so tough that you couldn't really chew it well. We ordered medium rare. The quality of the steak was not what was advertised. Very tough and it was cooked over a grill they cooked something very bitter over because the char marks from the grill that was on the steak had such a bad bitter flavor to it. It was super bitter and almost plasticy tasting. It was bad. We also ordered their club sandwich which came with fries and the fries were burnt and once again the cook was very heavy handed with the salt. Even the sandwich had salt all over it and we could not eat it at all! One bite and I just couldn't stomach the overpowering flavor of SALT. We also got a salad and they even messed that up. Luckily since we made sure to order it with dressing onthe side it wasn't overly salty but I don't know how they did it but they ruined the bacon in the salad. They overcooked and burnt the bacon bits and it ruined the taste of the salad. Made them bitter and nasty. We ended up pulling out all the bacon bits. The rest of the salad was lettuce, avocado, carrots, and cheese so luckily it was fine so we were able to stomach the salad only. How sad when you spend 110 dollars for two and the only thing we could stomach was the lettuce, avocado, and carrots from the entire meal! Wow. Never ever going there again! The perfect spot for a work lunch! This was first time visiting the downtown Harry & Izzy's though I have been to the northside one a few times and to St. Elmo's many times! I had a coworker visiting from out of state and we decided to go here both because of the menu and because it was a relatively quick walk from the office. We arrived around 1 and I was a little surprised at how busy it was. Only seating available was in the bar area and the only empty tables were dirty but we just stood near one for a minute and staff were quick to clean it up and reset it. We we welcomed quickly and staff never seemed rushed or stressed even with being so busy on random Wednesday afternoon. I was delighted by their offering of lunch specials! $25 for 2 of the famous St. Elmo's shrimp cocktail, a side salad (pretty good size) 2 (small) filet sliders - cooked to order, and fries! Only thing I would change is that I think the filet sliders should be served with the horseradish cream sauce and the fries should come with a dijonaise or similar sauce but that's just personal preference. An absolutely outstanding meal at this beautiful downtown Indy restaurant. The hostess stand was manned by three young women - one was definitely more gracious than the other two - but we did arrive on a Saturday night at 8:30PM without a reservation. Nevertheless, we got seated shortly and our service was fantastic. Our server was Anastazia who was assisted by another great helper (I apologize for not capturing his name!). Our server provided a brief introduction to the restaurant and the menu - along with a bit of history. We started with incredible delicious toasted ravioli with a marinara sauce that was mouth watering. We shared a Harry & Izzy salad & when at a steak house - we shared a filet. Aged to perfection and cooked as ordered. Our side was mac'n cheese - also excellent. Bread for the table was good - but not worth the calories when dessert is calling ... It happened to also be our Anniversary, a card signed by all the staff was presented to our table along with a dessert valued at $12 ... cheesecake with raspberry purée. Was dowtown most recently for the Olympic Swim Trials (June 2024), so popped in for dinner on a Tuesday evening without a reservation. They were fairly busy so we sat at the bar. I was in shorts & a T shirt because of the event, sure, anything goes, but generally I would want to dress more nicely here. Wasn't super super hungry and, while I love me some fine idning, just didn't feel like speding a fortune that particular night, as most of the menu is more high end pricing. So we didn't do alcohol, but the hubs & I split a famous shrimp cocktail (same as from St Elmo's, their sister establishment). I consumed just enough cocktail sauce to get the heat but not burn my sinunus out the way they are (in)famous for. I also had a crock of french onion soup and a single filet slider (only $6) (medium rare), and hubs had the prime rib pizza. Pizza was big enough that we took some home, too. I couldn't agree more. My wife and I celebrated our 22nd wedding anniversary yesterday. The day started with a great round of golf together but ended with the most delectable meal I've ever had. Absolutely amazing from start to finish. First off... they gave us an anniversary card personally signed by the waiters and waitresses. That's class! As per the usual trip to H&I, we started with the world famous shrimp cocktail. As veterans here, we've learned to take the heat pretty well, but it's still fun to watch newbies wipe away tears from the perfection that is the cocktail sauce. Always good, always fresh, better than any seafood joint by the ocean. I had the 18oz cowboy bone-in ribeye Izzy style, which I have to say from this foodies perspective... quite possibly the best steak I've ever eaten. The orange brandy butter sauce and seared peppercorn crusted meat is the ultimate combination of flavor. I wanted to gnaw on the bone but held back as not to embarrass the wife. With mashed red skin potatoes, skillet mushrooms, and the mouth watering fried onion rings, I was happy, happy, happy to the last savory morsel. My wife loved the wild caught Alaskan salmon with lemon couscous and asparagus. The salmon was likely the most meaty and flavorful I've ever eaten. And just when you think a meal can't get more perfect... RJ our waiter brings out the key lime crème brûlée. A limited time offering from the food gods over at H&I. I can't even begin to explain how unbelievable this dessert was. Far and above my favorite dessert from a restaurant. The lime flavor was certainly there but not over-powering and the crushed graham cracker on top really set it off. Top notch, first in class, winner winner chicken dinner. After all of that, H&I does one even better. I have never liked coffee. Can't do it at all no matter the brand or how much cream and sugar you put in it. Still tastes like something burnt to me. However, RJ brought my wife Ethiopian coffee in a French press with cream and sugar. It is the only coffee I have ever drank and actually liked. It actually tasted like it smelled. Wonderful! All in all... totally amazing. Not our first time there and definitely not our last. Love you folks over and Harry & Izzy's and shout out to RJ for being an amazing waiter! The orange sauce was a little too strong for my taste and took away from the flavor and texture of the meat. Brussels sprouts are some of the best I've ever had, and I don't even eat vegetables that often! The mac & cheese was also delicious and a cherry cola was unforgettable. Similarly, the shrimp cocktail was world famous for a good reason, it has a quite spicy taste that hits my brain seconds after you eat it. Can you get something bad here? We stopped in for a quick eat before an Indy Eleven game and got a table immediately. Service was great and they moved quickly since we were on a time crunch. The Brussels sprout salad is something I will now get every time. I'm not a huge steak person, so was looking for something different and this salad was so refreshing and perfectly filling. Harry & Izzy's may have the best lunch around. I love a good club sandwich and this thing was huge. Incredible value for the money and the fries are also on point. This may be the best club sandwich I've ever had. That combined with the great service team here I think this place is a hit for lunch. I did also have dinner here the other night. Service was amazing but the food let me down. I also love a good shrimp cocktail and heard so much about the one here. My server did explain their take on it and described it as a punch in the face. Well he was right, I should have taken him at his word. It's offensively spicy. There is no redeeming quality here, the heat from all the horseradish overwhelms everything including the beautiful shrimp. I would never order it again. I also got the burrata and Brussel sprout salad with the steak. The steak was amazing, perfectly cooked and seasoned, nice char on it. The salad was disappointing and would have been terrible without the steak to save it. The dressing had no flavor and served as moisture only. The cheese and Brussels really needed something to compliment it. I asked for more dressing on the side thinking it was maybe under dressed, but no the dressing just completely lacked flavor. The inside is classic steak house. Dark wood, black and white tiles, servers in white button down shirts and ties. I took a seat at the bar and Brenna was right over with water and a menu. She was helpful and made excellent recommendations. I decided to go with the must have items: Shrimp cocktail: four jumbo juicy sweet shrimp covered in their signature cocktail sauce. The sauce was good enough to lick the bowl. I didn't, but you could. Lunch NY strip steak w fries: I always have my steaks prepared medium. This steak was well flavored, juicy, and cooked to perfection. The fries were perfectly crisp served with a side car of ketchup. I was surprised at how generous the portion was for a lunch meal. Bread pudding: this is not a dessert to order by yourself. You will definitely need at least one, maybe two other people with you. This came highly recommended, it was a work expense so why not? The dessert takes a good 15 minutes or so to prepare. Once dessert arrived at my table, I knew it was too much. A dish full of soft soppy bread with chocolate chips, ice cream, whipped cream, and bourbon. You can't go wrong with any of those things. I didn't realize how well bourbon pairs with chocolate.
