Loco Moco Corn Beef Hash Fried Rice Beef Stew Any combination of the above or in an omelet is absolutely delicious! This place takes their rice seriously because it's made perfectly al dente vs overcooked like other island fares. I was telling myself that I wanted to share a dish with my DD but we ended up ordering our own loco moco as she wanted sunny side up eggs and I wanted over hard eggs. I was in town early and wanted to grab some breakfast. The place I always used to go for lupchong fried rice didn't open for another half an hour so I looked on yelp for another place to eat that was close by and found Harry's Cafe. Driving by the small parking lot was full but I spotted an open stall across the street. 50 cents later I was entering a cozy little old school diner. Very old but looked clean and well kept. I glanced up at the menu board and was surprised to see breakfast specials for a very reasonable price of $8.50. There were a few other patrons and it kinda looked like a seat yourself kind of deal so I made my way into the restaurant and headed towards a table in the back. A waitress came out and smiled and nodded towards the table I was headed to. There was a bigger wall menu behind me but I saw higher prices so I was already fixated on the $8.50 breakfast and didn't look too hard. Coffee was offered which I gladly accepted even though I already had a big mug full at home, and I gave my choice of the breakfast special which I chose spam, eggs o/e and it comes with fried rice. No, I don't eat a lot of spam because of health issues but hey, gotta enjoy life too. The coffee was good and the food came out about 15 minutes later. The bus guy, an older Filipino man was super smiley and warmed up my coffee. Spam is spam, the o/e eggs were good, the fried rice was okay though I do think the one at the other restaurant or even my own is better. For the price, it was fine. When I was done, I had about 5 minutes left on my meter and the bus guy saw me sitting there with my money out and very nicely instructed me to go up to the counter to pay. The tab came out to $12 and some change and I was a little surprised at first but then I remembered my coffee. Damn, I'm glad I refilled it for a $4 cup of coffee. LOL. Will I go back? Harry's Cafe is a cute little place that serves amazing breakfasts (and lunch). Although they used to be famous for their $0.99 breakfasts, we all know that isn't sustainable for a business to survive in todays world. What you can get now in 2023 is $7 breakfast specials if you come during happy hours (I think it was 6-8:30am), and they also serve several other specials that were upwards of $16-17. We dined in, the adobo omelette was delicious, my son ordered the 3-3-3 special which included 3 pancakes/3 eggs/3 pieces ham and was also fantastic & so much food even he couldn't even finish it all. I ordered a lup cheong fried rice plate with scrambled eggs to go but it looked so good when she brought it to the table that I couldn't help myself. Game over. Best lup cheong I've ever had. Service was so fast, I ordered and within a few minutes the food arrived. This is definitely like a blast from the past. The 90's, in particular. They've been here since the 90's. Harry's Café is an unassuming and clean restaurant at the corner of Waimanu and Kamakee Streets, but once you're inside, it becomes a cozy home like your mom's, with regular diners talking story, red and white checkered plastic table cloths, and owner Christy joining in the conversations. Definitely old school! No paper or digital menus, as they are posted on a chalkboard against the wall, and specials written on a dry erase board propped up on two chairs. The home cooked style of food combines that of Americana but also Korean inspired meals like Kim Chee fried rice or omelette/ kalbi + something else. The owners pulled up and shooed me away like an insect saying "we're closed we're closed, come back later" I asked when they would open due to their sign and they yelled more for me to leave. I did return just after 5:30, still no sign of opening. Dang, glad we found this spot! Unassuming from the outside, but the breakfast food was spot on. Owners - super friendly and attentive! Food - what I really wanted was the homemade corned beef hash, but unfortunately they sold out (we got there a bit late), so I settled for the last order they had of omelette fried rice with bacon. Tasty, light and very filling. Wife/daughter split the 3x3x3 (pancakes, eggs, bacon) and hash browns. Fluffy and crisp. Plenty to feed them both, plus me picking on the leftovers. They don't do anything fancy, you seat yourself on tables covered with a red and white checkered plastic-y sheet and you wonder if you're actually in someone's house because of the bike and piano and whatever else knick knacks they have lying around. Foodwise it's good but not amazing. The loco moco was standard, comes with two eggs and lots of gravy (gravy is a bit thin though). Beef stew was almost too flavorful but skimpy on the meat. Food is amazing and they're really friendly here too. There isn't much ambience here but if you're looking for some great, local food at a reasonable price, this is it. The pancakes are huge and not expensive- 2 for $10 and honestly, one ($5) would have been plenty! The beef stew (pic attached) was the best beef stew I've ever had. The meat was tender, the veggies delicious and the sauce was amazing. The two eggs on top added some nice flavor as well. Had breakfast with family there recently and had to wait about 15 minutes to get our orders taken and about another 30 minutes for our food. The establishment was fairly crowded but the reason for the long waiting time is because they are extremely short handed. Mama San is the waitress, cook and cashier. I'm giving this place 4 stars because the food was delicious despite the wait and Mama San was very apologetic and sweet enough to give us all popsicles.
