Finially! After weeks of being here & everyone under the sun asking "have you been to hartz yet","have you eaten the chicken @ hartz?" & my response is always the same "nope it's always packed". Well today was my day. Got their @ 10:30. & guess what. IT WAS PACKED!!!! Didn't care. I did it & it was really good. Sampled everything. Literally everything. Was all delicious. So why 1 star. Because of the styrofoam trays. That's just WRONG. THINK ABOUT IT!! The shear volume this place cranks out day after day, year after year is staggering & all on styrofoam. GROSS! I don't wanna think about it. So was it good. Hell yes. Will I go back. Never. Im not gonna feel guilty & contribute to destroying the earth. People down here just don't seem to care . Sad. It's a small buffet style place. You feel like your in a greasy chicken join, walk up to the counter pay and go eat. Pretty simple. Service was good, I don't require much for 7.99. The food was either really good or needed work. Black Eyed Peas Fried Chicken Mashed Potatoes and Gravy. Greens: Lacked Flavour, no vintage, little salt. Tasted like bland ham hocks. Fried Cat Fish: Way over cooked. Mac and Cheese: Creamy but again needed some salt and pepper at least. The reason I give it such a high review because if you need something quick, for a cheap price that is palatable this place is great. Use some salt and pepper and it will fill your gut for all you can eat food. Also, it's real Southern Sweet Tea so you know more sugar than tea. read more

We love their fried chicken livers and gizzards. The yeast rolls are very good too. Our last drive through order was disappointing. When we got home the large order of livers was missing. We had two orders of gizzards, okra and rolls and 1/2 doz rolls. Great meal but missed my livers. Will check order before we leave restaurant next time. read more

Where to begin. We thought this place would be good seeing as there were so many people there. We were wrong. The people who work there as well as the people eating there had terrible attitudes. The food here overall was a 4.5 / 5. I had the 3 piece 2 side meal. Baked beans were sweet tangy and had great flavor. The tots were cooked perfectly not too crunchy not too soft. The baked chicken and fried chicken were great. Baked chicken was not overly seasoned. Absolutely can't beat the price. Was very excited to come here because every time me and my family would drive by there were long lines and the food smelled amazing! However, when trying to place a to go order, the person on the phone was extremely rude. When asked to repeat the sides because we couldn't hear her, she sighs VERY LOUDLY. After that we just said no thank you. Had been wanting to try this place for a while. There always seems to be a line, which is usually a good sign. However, it was very disappointing.While the chicken is cooked where it had a good texture and was juice, it was lacking one thing: flavor. The fish that is cooked to look like catfish (it is Mississippi, after all) was described by the waitress as "some Alaskan fish," and it tasted like stale fish sticks. The cornbread was super dense with an off-putting taste. Apart from lackluster food, every single table was filthy. This is the second time I have been able to visit Hartz Chicken buffet in three years. The price is still the same, $10.50 per adult and $5.99 for children 4-12. (My 12 year old is above average in size but eats like he's half his age.) The chicken is crispy and perfection. I love the gizzards too. There is something to be said about food that is made simple and not over seasoned or salted. The sides are always good as well. The place is small and gets busy. The staff keeps the buffet full and buses tables almost immediately. They also keep the floors and counters clean. So, just be a little mindful of your surroundings because it can become a bit of a dance to get back to your seat. I sat near the front, so I was looking at he menu while eating and the prices for takeout is pretty good too which explains that not only do they have a full house inside, it's just as much going on in the drive thru. It was amazing fried chicken, green beans and other sides. Then I tried the desserts they offered that visit, peach cobbler and sweet potato bread pudding. I never bother with desserts. I used to eat here quite often when I used to live up the street. I love their baked chicken with the lemon pepper flavor as well as their fried fish. As for sides I used to always get the potato salad and the baked beans. The have a good buffet but it's frequently crowded with family and children so I used to take it to go. Don't let the kids scare you away since when you order the family meal they serve you the fresh chicken they've got behind the counter not the stuff from the buffet. You can also call in your order and they'll have it ready for you. If you eat at the buffet try going M-Th to avoid the crowds. read more

I have been coming to Hartz every time I visit Ocean Springs. I grew up here and little has changed about this restaurant. The chicken is hot, juicy and they have a decent assortment of vegetables, fried and baked chicken, rolls and even ice cream to finish the meal. I found this place last year when I visited the grandkids. Went 3 times. This is one of the best Fried Chicken places I have ever been to. I am just a HUGE FAN of the fried gizzards.
