Stopped to charge my Tesla S and found this place near the supercharge station. So went in for a quick bite. Ordered a rainbow roll and spicy tuna roll. Walked into a wonderful greeting by all the staff. The atmosphere was clean and tranquil with knowledgeable service of the menu. I was celebrating my 21st birthday and they were so accommodating and thoughtful. We didn't call in before for a birthday celebration but they ended up giving us a little sweet treat on the side. Our top dishes were the Aubri roll and the 210 roll, both able to melt into your mouth without leaving a fishy stench. We were then surprised by an on the house chefs rolls which was delectable. Yes Sushi was the spot that my family went to whenever we craved sushi, so we were saddened when we drove by, saw construction happening and thought it closed down. To our surprise it reopened as Haruka with the same friendly staff and excellent sushi. Let's just call it a glow up. They have the same menu with new items plus a wider selection of beers and sake. The food here is so delicious that after our first visit, we couldn't stop talking about how amazing the sushi was. I usually don't go for shrimp tempura rolls, but theirs completely changed my mind--so crispy, fresh, and flavorful! My sister and I kept saying how unbelievably good they were. Beyond the food, the service has been top-notch each time. While I didn't catch the names of the servers on our first visit, today we were helped by Bibi and Jane, and they were both absolutely wonderful--attentive, kind, and really made us feel welcome. Review It's so nice now having a "fancy" sushi place close to home in East Pasadena. We loved Yes Sushi, and we love this place too. Congratulations to the team on a beautiful remodel! While the restaurant is located in a non-assuming "hotel strip mall" with easy parking, once inside you're in a completely different place. They did a beautiful job. The interior is an understated yet elegant space, muted gray with multiple shades of wood. The decor feels warm yet crisp and clean. The food is lovely, simple and fresh. It's presented beautifully, on tasteful dishware and decorated with delicate flowers. The attention to detail and genuine passion of the chef and kitchen staff is noticed and appreciated. Among my favorites is the tuna sushi, regular and yellowtail. The yellowtail is topped with a delicate touch of citrusy sauce. While I don't know exactly what it is (yuzu perhaps), it's delicious. The garlic albacore roll is delectable, with a lot of crunchy garlic and softer onions on top and underneath to complement the fish-definitely not for the faint of heart when it comes to strong oniony flavors. At the other end of the spectrum, the rainbow roll is light and refreshing, beautiful pink tuna alongside fresh green avocado. My all-time favorite is the popcorn roll. It's not fancy, but just "fun" and very yummy. It is filled with spicy tuna and topped with a huge pile of crunchy tempura-battered crayfish. Because it went so quickly, next time I will order two if dining with a group. These are my three favorite dishes, but everything else was great too. The staff is extremely attentive and friendly, and treat you like family, despite having just met you. Oh man, 5/5 for the food, it was so good that it distracted me from the horrid service- 1/5. Everything we had was amazing, cucumbers were a little sweeter than expected, but still managed to devour our entire meal- props to the kitchen. Unfortunately, the service/hospitality was nonexistent. We came in and it wasn't really busy (people were standing around), but got busier as we were leaving. I don't think they were soft opening or grand opening, or else I would have been very understanding of the experience. No one greeted us (at least formally, no "welcome" or "hello", straight to "how many?"), no one checked in on our meal or waters (our server interaction: took our order, ran us a couple dishes, dropped off the check), no explanation of any of our dishes, no asking for allergies or dietary restrictions, no one said goodbye to us (we weren't tucked in a corner, we were in plain sight...). Spent nearly $300, and I tipped out of my obligation as a fellow service worker. The service I experienced- or better yet, the lack of hospitality- either pointed to mismanagement, lack of training, or the staff simply not caring. I do have certain expectations when I'm dropping a few hundred on a meal. Leaving a restaurant after spending that money without getting proper service nor a "thank you" feels pretty awful. You can find good food anywhere- but not good service. read more

We've been here before, when it was previously Yes Sushi, perhaps more than 6 months ago. My GF and I were craving sushi, so we figured we'd go here instead of trying something new. Boy, were we surprised. They've remodeled and it looks fresh and clean - so much more light! Impressed by the new look, we couldn't help but notice the staff buzzing and moving around attentively checking on tables. My beer and our edamame arrived quickly, followed in perfect time with our sushi. My GF ordered the Vegas Roll, and a Shrimp Tempura Roll - both with soy paper and delicious! I had the BSCR, and the Blossom no rice roll. I've had the Blossom a couple times here, and it is a favorite. Last time, it wasn't great - its served on a lemon wedge with a mustard pozu - and those flavors were overpowering. This time is was perfect, the roll melted in my mouth! Really had a great meal, and a very pleasant experience... we will definitely be back soon. read more
