Overall, the food here was decent. Got to try a lot of the menu and a few things stood out. The sweet potato chips were abysmal. They were more greasy than my bike's chains. Take that as you will. Sweet tea was also overly sweet. However the coleslaw and Mac and cheese were the highlights of my meal. Everything else was pretty decent nothing special. We took a detour to eat here while on a road trip. Let me say, my extended family has eaten here many times and loved it, but it was my first time. I ordered the smothered chicken, cheese grits and collards. The chicken was pretty good, but the grits and collards were not good at all. The collards had an unusual flavor but I figured maybe it was just a seasoning I didn't like until I looked over and noticed the lady at the table next to me didn't eat hers either. Still I figured it was just me. Then I tried the cheese grits (they were cold) and simply couldn't figure out what was going on. If I had to describe the flavor, I would say evaporated milk mixed with the scent of candle wax burning. It was a very distinctive taste. I'm not a very picky person and will eat just about anything, but these 2 sides didn't taste like anything I've ever had in my life. I did taste my sisters fried okra and it was delicious. read more

It was fun eating here on Halloween weekend the staff was all dressed up. We tried the fried green tomatoes they let us put the toppings on the sides my husband had meatloaf he liked my daughter had smothered chicken with okra and Mac and cheese her Mac and cheese was yummy I had chicken tenders with okra and mashed potatoes. Great ambiance, fair service, but horrible food. I had looked on their website menu before going there and had planned on getting the smokehouse burger. When we got there, the menu was limited and the waitress said they probably just had not updated the website, but they didn't have even half of what was listed online. So I ended up ordering the smothered chicken with green beans and mashed potatoes. 15 minutes later I'm told they don't have mashed potatoes. I had to get fries. The food comes and the grilled chicken was the worst I've ever had. Hard to cut and so chewy. I left it. It was disgusting. My husband had chicken strips and he said the same thing. Terrible chicken, hard to even chew. What a waste of money. Left there still hungry. We will never go back. read more

I'm a sucker for Fried Green Tomatoes! Stopped in for a bite to eat after exploring the river walk. Feeling a little parched, ordered a Moon Runner and the tomatoes while I studied the menu. That drink really hit the spot and the tomatoes were nice and crunchy. Decided to have the Lobster Roll for dinner. Too bad it wasn't as delicious as the appetizer. I found the lobster chewy and the roll very dry and not at all fresh. Had to ask for melted butter, between that and a little salt I was able to choke it down. Not sure what I was thinking to order seafood. The service was outstanding. Overall I would try this place again but definitely steer clear of the lobster, lol read more

if you have a weekend off to explore some parts of Georgia when you''re living in the city, visit Rome, GA. We did that on Easter Sunday. Rome, GA is a leisurely 1.5hour's drive from Metro Atlanta. Getting off the boring freeway, you get to drive thru some forested area before hitting a little countryside looking places and then ta-da, you're in the l ittle quaint downtown/city square of Rome. The main drag is Broad Street. As the name suggests, it is quite broad. Both sides lined with quaint/interesting shops. We didn't get to the shops because it was Easter Sunday and everybody's who's a townsperson was in Church.... except hubby, Simba and I... When we drove into town, church service just ended and people dressed in their Sunday's best were streaming out of the church nearby this restaurant. We decided to come to this cafe because it was smack in the middle of town and was open for brunch. Because we had Simba with us, we sat outside. The menu of the day was a buffet brunch much to our surprise, we had wanted eggs & bacon, breakfasty type food... we got a bonus! It was Easter Buffet complete with prime ribs and all the fixings. Our server was very attentive, despite the church crowd, he came to check on us and refilled our coffee regularly. A second server even came to top up Simba's water bowl. They were efficient & productive, made us feel very welcomed. Parking to this restaurant was at the back, it's free on Sunday and you would have to pay $1 for every hour during the weekday & Saturday. No biggy... read more

Disappointing food and service. The most significant problem was the food temperatures were tepid. I ordered their signature cheese dip, which had been setting out so long that the drippings down the side were dry and crusted and a skin was starting to form on the top. They'd given it a stir in a poor attempt to disguise the neglect. It had a good flavor, with just a hint of spiciness, that would have been great had it been served hot. The accompanying tortilla chips had also been sitting out too long and begun to absorb the humidity and were tough and some had begun to turn leathery. Two more of my sides suffered the same issue of not being served hot and fresh: the grits and the mac-and-cheese. The mac flavor was good if ordinary. The grits looked just like mashed potatoes and my wife mistook them for that other dish as well. But upon tasting it was confirmed they were grits, albeit not served hot or fresh. Also there were clumps in the grits indicating hasty and incomplete mixing. There were two items on my plate that were served fresh and hot: the chicken tenders and French fries. The latter, despite being chunky cut fries, had a good crust and were perfectly seasoned. The chicken, however, was dry, tough, and stringy on the inside. And the chicken tasted like boiled water with a metallic aftertaste. We'd also ordered one of their famous biscuits, which they forgot to serve. When reminded, they did bring one out. It had a dark brown crust and was very dense and heavy--not a flaky biscuit, but quite stodgy. Despite visible chunks of cheese their flavor was barely discernible. One of the meals was also supposed to come with jalapeno cornbread, but instead they served an ordinary and small dinner roll. I asked about the cornbread, but they returned to the table and informed me they had run out. I hoped they would not charge us for the biscuit and let it substitute for the missing cornbread, but no. Speaking of unavailable items, their website menu lists items that are not actually available. Nor is the printed menu, which they provide at the table, to be trusted. For example, when my wife ordered the Tomato Pie they said it wasn't being offered any more. We also had difficulty getting refills and the waitress ignored our empty glasses until we specifically asked. read more

This place is terrific! I've made it a point to hit Harvest Moon at least a couple of times a month, and it's now my go-to place when someone asks for a decent recommendation in Rome, GA. It's been terrific to see Rome get a number of viable, non-chain establishments over the last decade or so, and Harvest Moon is centrally located near all the Broad St. businesses, offering much fresher fare than that available at most of its neighbors. The folks here specialize in traditional Southern food with a few modern touches, and the overall effect really, really works. I am personally partial to the Killer Pimena Burger, something I was hesitant to try at first. Pimento cheese on a burger? Really? Well, trust me - it works. So do the homemade sweet potato chips that you can get as a side to complement any sandwich - they're perfectly crisp on the outside and soft and sweet on the inside. I belong to the philosophy of "in for a nickel, in for a dime," so you know I always order my sweet potato chips with the glorious gorgonzola and bacon dip created just for them. The dip is the perfect blend of creamy, savory, and sweet, and the combination of the chips, dip, and burger might just be enough to launch a cardiac arrest, but man...what a way to go. There are plenty of healthy options at Harvest Moon - just ask the server to drop off a Thrive menu if they don't bring one off the bat - and their salads are big and full of fresh ingredients. Sunday brunch is as awesome as others have said. I've honestly never encountered better buffet-style dining anywhere before. You'll find plenty of breakfast entrees (traditional favorites like bacon, sausage, and cheese grits as well as eggs benedict and fruit) as well as lunch items (catfish fingers, stuffing, steamed and fried veggies, etc.) It's like Thanksgiving every Sunday, complete with that wholesome, homemade feel. The service has been consistently good, and I have no complaints on that front. The Harvest Moon servers are friendly, attentive, and responsive - and really, what else do you need? My one complaint - the tea is ALWAYS weak. Every time I go, I promise myself I've learned my lesson, but nonetheless I always end up ordering tea and wishing I hadn't. This is true for both sweet and unsweet. It's just really, really weak. Everything else is so good, though, that this place still merits five stars! read more

I'll start off with my order. A few Atlanta beers, fried green tomatoes, bacon wrapped shrimp, and soul rolls. I apologize, my mouth was faster than my camera, I finished the fried green tomatoes while listening to the history and future plans of Rome, told to me by the bartender. After that, I finally remembered to get a shot. It's possible everything on this menu includes pimento cheese, and I'm great with that, it is Georgia after all. You can look at the menu for descriptions, I'll just say, in my estimation, everything I tasted was wonderful. The staff was friendly to this solo outsider. I've been here twice now and I'm on the fence about it. First visit was fried catfish and two vegs. The catfish came out hot and fresh. Good flavor and cooked well. The vegetables were vegetables. Not bad just not exciting. My second trip I ordered the Thai Chicken. Although the chicken and vegetables were cooked perfectly and the rice was good as well, it was far from the way the menu read. I'd call it a great chicken/vegetable stew but a disaster as a Thai dish. Realizing we're in north Georgia and not Thailand, I'd still expect something better. Don't call your food a particular thing if you can't deliver. Then there's the staff. The girls in particular. Lots of waitresses...standing around. Don't have a table to tend to? Fine, then pick up a rag and clean. Or roll silverware. Or shock on customers even if they're not your table. Doing nothing is one thing. Doing it for all to see is another. I'd suggest the management hire all new girls. Or guys, their choice. Simply get people that have half a work ethic and want to be productive. read more

Located in downtown Rome, Harvest Moon Cafe is a very good lunch spot for homestyle cooking. More than just a "meat and three" establishment, this restaurant also has burgers, salads, and an extensive sandwich menu. If good old Southern cooking is what you crave, pick a meat and two or three sides to satisfy your taste buds. Don't want meat? The veggie plates - choose three or four - are inexpensive and delicious. Definitely try the collards, and don't forget to slurp up the liquid gold (pot likker) at the end. It was my favorite side dish by far. Cheesy grits were a little soupy, but full of flavor, while the black eyed pea salad was a little bland, even goosed with jalapeños and pepper sauce. One interesting menu item is the salmon BLT. Sounds a little weird, but one of my clients ordered it and it looked and smelled amazing. He devoured every bite. Portions are plentiful. Service is friendly and very efficient. You won't wait long for your food. If you're in the area, I heartily recommend stopping by for an enjoyable meal. read more

The food wasn't bad, but we had to nearly beg to be seated. We were taken all the the way to the back of the restaurant (past plenty of empty tables) and seated almost in the laps of the open kitchen. When we asked to be moved - we again had to nearly beg for the host's attention and then were forced to stand awkwardly in the middle of the restaurant as they told us which tables we were allowed to sit at and which ones were available, reasoning that made no sense at all. The waitress wasn't bad, but she did forget refills at one point. Every time I walked by the open kitchen, it sounded more like the staff was joking around then working. The worst part was the bathrooms: when I walked into the ladies room, there was a man in one of the stalls with a woman. What they were doing in there together I had no idea, but I have never walked into a woman's bathroom before and found a man: I felt unsafe and shaken. I told someone about it as I was leaving but whether they did anything about it, I have no idea. Very high prices for food that was pretty good (but not amazing), poor customer service, and shocking behavior. Wouldn't eat here again. read more

My fiance Adam & I eat here for a special occasion when we want to go to downtown Rome. It is a bit pricey but it is considered on the same level as the other "higher-end" restaurants on Broad Street so consider it a date night spot. The service is good. The bartenders are by far the friendliest of all the staff but everyone there does a nice enough job. The food is delicious but on occasion can be a miss like most places. We always gets the same appetizer. I also always get the same entree, while Adam changes his choice up. Wicked Pimina Cheese Dip w/Chips- TO DIE FOR! This alone gets a whole star! I feel like if this came with other side options, I could make a meal of this dip. Grilled Salmon- My entree of choice. I enjoy this meal very much. I change out the sides periodically to try something different with my salmon. I gave this four stars only because as often as we eat here, it seems that there should be more/different choices to choose from on the menu. I would love to go in one day and not know in my head that I am already going to get the grilled salmon because that's the only thing that sounds good to me. We were visiting our cousins from New Jersey. Last night we sat at the bar and the bartender comes up to us and says "sorry i cant serve you they told me you were cut off upstairs" im like what?? I just got here I havent even ordered a drink? Im sober? He was like "oh your right wrong people" Im like alright? I then order a sparkling water and was with my 26 year old sister. We set our IDS down at the bar incase I wanted a drink in the long run. He picks up my ID and says "sorry I dont feel comfortable serving you" im like why? What do you mean? He said these IDs seem fake. Im like do you need to see another form of ID? I showed him my 4 credit cards, my health insurance card, my passport and my medical ID card. It wasn't enough for them. In this day and age this should not be happening its very simple to ask for another form of ID or scan the ID itself. We asked to speak to the owner and he himself told the bartender that the IDs were real and why did he think they were fake? He said "they just look weird". He also had the audacity to ask me why im traveling with my passport. It is because of people like y'all thats why I travel with my passport especially to a Red State! We are from NEW JERSEY we have licenses from that state. However the owner decided we were being rude and asked us to leave. That's fine we left but I filed a complaint with the department of justice and named 11 witnesses. Be aware of the businesses you want to give your money to. There are better places to go. read more
