Had a wonderful experience with my friends at Harvey's. Reservations were easy to make. Our waiter, Alex Baumann, was able to handle our large party, that included a deadly nut allergy, with ease. This used to be one of my fave spots in Columbus. It has went drastically downhill, especially in the service department. Inattentive waiters, extremely slow kitchen, and when the food finally gets there the order is either incomplete or incorrect. Won't be going back again. Our waiter was extremely inattentive. Barely ever refilled drinks. Did not know what any of the specials were. Had to ask about our salads after a 30 minute wait and then he spun us a BS story to cover the fact he forgot to put them in. Food came out about 40 minutes later. In the time we placed our order to when our food hit the table (and when it did our order was incomplete), an entire other section of the restaurant had been seated, eaten, and left. We had a party of six that came in on Father's Day with my 92 year old grandfather and we will not be back. This place has changed. Not for the better. read more

This is our second time to eat at Harvey's. This first time was when we had family in town and they were very accomodating of our larger group. We shone like stars for picking such a great place to eat. We were excited to have an opportunity to come back. Today we ordered one each of the specials. I would have posted pictures of the broccoli bites but we ate them all. Don't let the word broccoli fool you. They only add a little for color and so you can say you ate some vegetable. ...it's really fried cheddar balls with bits of bacon and a little broccoli for affect. The braised beef reminded me of Sunday dinners at Granny's. Complete with mashed potatoes and gravy. The only thing wrong with my trout was my husband's fork wouldn't leave it alone. DELICIOUS! My husband and I are traveling America's Great Loop. Our stop today was Columbus Mississippi. We had a long day on the water and decided to borrow the loaner car from the Marina and head into Main Street. We chose Harvey's to have dinner. We were greeted by a young lady who opened the door for us, we sat at a nice booth and were greeted by two of the nicest young people who were to be our servers. We ordered The broccoli Bites, which were AMAMZING! The potato Soup- Devine! The Ribeye steak-perfection and the Shrimp and Grits- husband says were the Best Ever. Had a graduation dinner for 9. Ordered a bottle of wine. Waitress brought a single glass. When asked about the bottle, her answer was "we only had enough for one glass". Ordered another bottle that didn't make it to our table until after the meal was served. Ordered an appetizer, it came with the dinner... and was luke-warm (mushrooms). Sent it back. Several of our guests ordered the prime rib medium rare. Every piece of meat was grey, over-cooked and "not hot". Horrible presentation for their "house speciality". I had the sirloin. Definitely not a "prime" cut as advertised. It was barely warm. Overall, a very bad experience. Would not recommend. read more

This is my second time getting a steak on different occasions and my steak looked like a patty. $25 for a ribeye and it looked like pork chop without the bone. And it was ridiculously flat. Needless to say. They didn't even bring out my broccoli. And I'm at the bar and the service is horrible and I'm not upset. But the bartender acts like she has an attitude. Went for a birthday celebration at the one in Columbus on 2/12. Got there and ordered at 7:30, didn't get food until over a hour later. The food came out cold. Sent food back. They brought our food back out at almost 10 in a to-go bag. We waited 30 more minutes for our tickets that were all wrong. The managers were not a bit concerned. Called in to speak with district manager last week. Still not call back. Went back in the restaurant to eat yesterday and spoke with a manager. She did not seem to have a care in the world about the situation. On 2/14, went to the one in Starkville and had a bug in my drink. Nothing was done about that nor have I received a callback in regards to that either. Harvey's is my favorite restaurant, but these past experiences within the past week have really made feel different. read more

I ordered eggs Benedict. The waiter asked how I wanted the eggs. I have never been asked how I wanted a poached egg before and I told the waiter that. He insisted that I told him how I wanted it cooked. Instead of arguing I said medium. When I got the eggs Benedict the eggs were fried not poached. The piece of ham was so hard I couldn't cut it with a knife and there was no hollandaise sauce on it at all. read more

When we complained about the fish and baked potato he said, "Maybe next time you should order something else." When my son went to the Mississippi School of Math and Science in 1996, Harvey's was the standby place we would go eat dinner when visiting or when my son had off campus privileges. My son had three standbys he always enjoyed there- the french dip sandwich, the fried cheese appetizer, and the teriyaki rib-eye. Passing through Columbus for the first time in almost 20 years, I decided to stop by for lunch. I ordered the fried cheese appetizer, which was still the hand breaded original. The fried cheese is still prepared with thick logs of cheese, hand breaded with a light flour coating, fried up crispy and thin. I was sorry I was alone to enjoy this appetizer but finished it slowly as I remembered pleasant times in the good old days. The teriyaki rib-eye was equally as good as I remembered. Thoroughly marinated with a deep beef taste, this steak is outstanding because it lacks the syrupy taste of teriyaki coating found in so many places that don't take the time to marinade properly. It was a great lunch with a vegetable kebab as the side which was fresh and tasty with a real grill char. Really hated that I couldn't try the french dip sandwich but I'll have to save that for the next time. read more

The Fettuccine Romano is outstanding -- Italian sausage, ground hamburger, onions, garlic, crushed tomatoes, roasted red bell peppers, olive oil, parmesan cheese and fresh basil. Now be forewarned, this is fairly greasy -- they could probably stand to use a bit less olive oil and I'm not a big fan of the basil. It's pretty strong. But this is still a great dish. The bread pudding is to die for, and I don't even usually like bread pudding. A big slab of French bread baked with vanilla custard, granny smith apples, and pecans, DRENCHED in bourbon sauce and dusted with powdered sugar. This stuff is heavenly. The atmosphere is kind of fancy -- the type of place you would take a date or have a business lunch. I always preferred to get my food to go. You can pull up to the curb in the back and they will bring it out to you. It's expensive, but I usually got three meals out of it. read more
