Ate here 4 diff times in 5 days! It was close to our Airbnb but proximity wasn't the reason we ate here over and over. The food was amazing. It's one of those hole on the wall Places. The restaurant is a small 5 table place - nothing luxurious or any extra bells and whistles which is perfect! The love that goes into the food is evident with every bite! There was nothing on the menu we didn't like. We were able to almost try the entire menu. The cabbage was my favorite and the rice. Such simple ingredients but so wonderful. We came here for dinner on a sleepy Wednesday night. Absolutely would come back in a heartbeat. Was fantastic. Don't be fooled by the modest appearance and side of the road location. The kalbi was grilled on a wood fire grill. The owner and staff were lovely. Food was excellent. Kimchi stew tasted authentic to the Korea town cafes we frequent in NYC. They dont serve beer or wine so you will want to go to the convenience store next door if you want a drink. read more

Don't be scared. The place is a old and very worn, but the food is great at a good price point. Laie is a tough place to fine a good plate lunch to eat at the beach. Hauula Korean BBQ is one of the few acceptable places. I recommend the meat jun and kalbi combination plate. The meat jun was extremely flavorful. The kalbi tender and delicious. It's served with three Korean vegetables and Kim chee. They mix it around. I got the seaweed salad which was wonderful. I brought Caucasian friends from the mainland. They enjoyed it. The less adventurous friends ate across the street at a seafood taco place-their loss. Hauula Korean has been there forever for a reason. Good food at good prices. read more

We're somewhat new to Korean cuisine, but as far as we could tell, this place is great! Well, as far as the food, anyway. The ambiance is impressively bad--huge photos of Korean food completely block the windows so it's quite stuffy inside. So, we got carryout. I got the bibimbap (see photo). Good choice for vegetarians--while it does contain beef, it's served on the side (you could probably ask them to leave it out too). The main focus is the veggies, which were fresh and delicious. I was able to request for the egg to be well-done. The dish came with a really great spicy plum sauce. Good portions for being around $7. My partner enjoyed his meaty combo meal. We also ordered the $7.50 seaweed soup, which was tasty and came with its own big carryout container of rice, 3 kinds of veggies, and some amazing macaroni salad. All though this place might not look like much, they have really ONO grinds. This by far is the place for the best Kim Chee burgers on the island. Even their regular hamburgers and French fries are all homemade are delicious. This is home cooking style Korean. It truly is a Mom and Pop, well Mom run family business with the same little very sweet Korean lady (I'm not racially stereotyping here but she is not very large and she is Korean ) cooking up the goods for many many years now. I remember her son working there and later her daughter but now they are all grown up and college educated, thanks to moms hard work If you are tired of the same old same old from the cookie cutter chain restaurants, please support true local businesses like this or they will simply go away. Very good Korean food at a fair price with ample portions worthy of a Polynesian's appetite!

Service was very slow, but I read that from other reviewers so I knew it ahead of time. I didn't see any other Haoles like myself when we went in, just locals, which is a great sign in my book. They looked like they had called their orders in ahead of time and were there to pick up take-out orders. I would have done that too if I had known of the menu ahead of time. Price seemed "fine" (I eat on a tight budget), but my opinion turned toward "great bang for your buck" when I saw the size of our meals. I had the bibimbap, and it was flavorful and fresh. The kimchi was bright, crunchy and deliciously spicy. Others in my party had no idea what they were ordering but they're adventurous eaters too, and they ended up enjoying their food. Bottom line: if you are able to come in and snap a photo of the menu ahead of time so you can leisurely call in a take-out order later, you're golden. Ended up coming here because the restaurant we were suppose to go was closed. Environment is not so awesome, but, food was good. Authentic korean cooking with a touch of the hawaiian plate combo.Very affordable. Place was empty at first but, slowly got busy- - too busy maybe that they must have missed placing our order, because 3 other people after us got their orders first. Anyway, they don't have a restroom so don't drink too much. I did get that impression that locals go to this restaurant. It was almost the end of their shift that's probably why they missed our order, but they deserve the 5-stars for their food. It was certainly worth the wait. read more

The place is run/owned and now called "Da Q" $19.95 for a mix plate!! The plate looked big but was mostly rice. I had the chicken, steak and meat jun mix. The chicken and the meat jun had a weird taste to it. They were marinated in the same thing. I don't know what it is called but it tasted bitter almost like it was spoiled. The steak just tasted like steak. Nothing special at all. I could not eat due to bad taste. The sides did not fair any better. Small portions (one piece of tofu), corn (bland), and bean sprouts. Local brahda cooking, local brahda at register. I'm sad to say, they can't cook. The Korean lady who had the place before them was outstanding!!! Very disappointed !!! ok...this place looks a lil grungy... and there is a distinct smell outside.... but the food is pretty darn yummy! i got the loco moco and the garlic shrimp... loco moco was delish...two thick and juicy patties... however, i do think they should add another egg... the one egg looked so sad by itself the garlic shrimp was awesome! forget the shrimp trucks...i like this one! yummy, buttery, garlicky goodness :) they also give you sides like mac salad, taegu, kimchee...the usual. food took a tad long...but i guess they're making it with love :) plus...the price is pretty reasonable :) read more

Kim chee burger is what I LOVE eating from there. Started making it at home, BUT on lazy days and if thats my crave, its Hauula BBQ we go!
