My self and a close friend of mine ordered the oxtail meal from Havana cafe today , and the service was poor and horrible , we used the app Grubhub , because my friend lived closer she received her order first, she noticed that she was sent pepper steak, we then waited for my order to come & I was also sent pepper steak. I then called the store and the young lady who answered the phone was extremely disrespectful and said there was nothing she could do about it , and that it was a kitchen error. I then asked to speak to the kitchen manager , I was placed on a brief hold and the young lady said " I spoke to the kitchen manager she said she is busy ," she was super rude and didn't even try to resolve the situation. That goes to show , they don't sell oxtails ! & they're false advertising! Definitely don't order here. read more

Passed by for brunch after Ajo and oregano had a 2 hour wait. Walked right in with no problem and found seats at the bar. Food was delicious and the sangria was amazing. Chasity was very attentive and made sure to refill our cups without asking. Big plus! Especially for brunch. Will return and recommend to friends! read more

Stopped here on my way to west Hester square. I wasn't aware that there was a Havana Cafe on Castle Hill Avenue. I arrived around 3pm so there was plenty of meter parking. I sat at the bar and ordered a coconut mojito and then a pineapple mojito. Both were good and they had a nice little kick to them. I also ordered the bacailito cakes. They had a little too much dough for me. One could barely taste the codfish. Other than that the service was quick and the atmosphere was very inviting. I think I have found a new spot to go to with my friends after work. Thanks Havana for having me leave with a good impression. read more

Why do I keep doing this to myself? Purchased a groupon and tried making reservations on a Wed night but was told they've "reached their max and they can't make any more Groupon reservations". Really? On a Wed night? Doesn't make sense considering I ALWAYS spend more than the Groupon amount so they're losing out on the additional revenue. Anyhoo, I spoke to the Manager Michelle but she wasn't of any assistance. Hopefully Groupon will me a refund because I def won't be returning to this establishment. read more

First off. The waiting staff was great. Very nice people, went during a busy evening. Got seated rather fast. Server was very attentive. He was great. The music was loud and ready to get you hyped up specially if you're enjoying their drinks. Now, I went there for the food. Possibly that was my mistake. It's probably a better location to drink, chit chat if you can over the music and have fun. The dishes that were ordered for my table of four were not that great. The rice for my dish tastes old and re-heated in the microwave. I could do that on my lazy day at home. The meat on it was great at the ends, the center was not so great... for some reason it grabbed a strong bitter burnt taste to it. The seafood paella we had... the rice was moist, okay? But not tasty. It was bland, the seafood itself was meh. Possibly had sat in the freezer for too long. I can picture Chef Ramsey busting into their back fridge like the Kool-aid man throwing F bombs at the restaurants food. The sandwich and coffee were great! Stopped in for a takeout Cubano sandwich this afternoon. I've had this in the past several times and it was always the best Cubano in the Bronx. While I understand times are very difficult for the restaurant industry these days, I was very disappointed with the order. Waited 1/2 hr for a very thin, what was almost a ground pork sandwich. I support local restaurants, but I do resent paying $16 for a sandwich that used to feed two people.They can do better. read more

I've eaten here numerous times and this place is a winner! Some pros and suggestions... I love the chivita salad which has toasted goat cheese, raisins, and almonds. It's so tasty that I pretty much have one every day for lunch and pay a little extra to add salmon. Careful though, the salmon portions are considerably smaller than the first few times I ordered. They hooked me and then cut me off at the knees! The lobster tacos (3) are delicious with their mango pico de gallo. Keep in mind that they're "antojitos"- small snack food. SMALL. The bacalaitos, cod fish fritters, are my favorite item on the menu. Seasoned well and they don't skimp on the cod fish. One observation: they need to cook the bacalaitos a little more for my taste. They can be a bit "doughy" which makes them taste undercooked and a little bit like flour. Drinks aren't their forte. They could benefit from having a real mixologist on staff. And finally, the salmon is another great dish. It's the coconut sauce that makes it stand out. Top it off with an additional side of sautéed spinach, maduros (sweet plantains), and black beans and you'll leave here more than satisfied! Definitely give them a try. I've been ordering to go sangria since Covid started and I continue to order from Havana Cafe since the governor approved to go drinks. The sangria that I order regularly started off great and has gradually gotten worse. This afternoon I ordered sangria via a delivery app and the sangria I got tasted like water. I asked for light ice and instead received half the container filled with ice. I know the employees know that I'm a regular customer due to the frequency of my orders, but yet still has the audacity to send me watered down drinks. That's a shame because there are other options for to go cocktails and I hope potential customers reconsider. Stop waiting peoples time and money. read more

This place is my go to for times and days of the week. They have a fabulous brunch with unlimited 2 hour mimosas or sangria and they also have happy hour through out the week. The multiple times I have gone I order different dishes and my favorite so far is the monfongo. I also have two kids and they are kid friendly and have a nice kid's menu with more than just mac and cheese or chicken fingers. Always a go to in the Bronx area. read more

This Havana is exactly like the Havana in East Tremont before they expanded. The only thing is that this Havana Cafe doesn't have is the outdoor seating. The menu is the same, as always delicious. The staff is just as friendly. This place gets very busy on the weekends. Try the happy hour you can't beat $5 mojitos and $5 sangria ANYWHERE in the restaurant. I love sitting down anywhere I want and still getting happy hour. This new location is simpler to get to than the one on East Tremont. In this location you have the choice of walking, taking the train or taking the bus. -If you ride the train: You can take the 6 train to Castle Hill and is 1 block away from the station. -If you ride the bus: The 22 bus stops less than a block away. read more

Take out buyer beware! "We don't give change, we just round it off" This is the response I received from the manager after an employee also gave me the same story upon being short changed 38 cents. This is the second time I have been short changed at this restaurant and there was no apology when I insisted they either give me my 38?cents or "round" off the bill in my favor. In addition, while I waited for my take out order, I had to listen to disgruntled employee "drama" from 3 workers who thought it would be appropriate to air grievances in front of customers. The food is tasty but sadly, customer service and professionalism is a must have in my book. I will not be returning. read more

I am a fan. I loved coming here for happy hour before covid. Now I just bring the happy hour home. Love their classic mojitos. Ordered 2 - 32 ounce mojitos yesterday and they tasted just as delicious as if they had been served there minus the sugarcane stick :-(. Love the empanadas here. Toasted buttery outside deliciously flavored inside. Also had the bacalaitos (cod fritters) last night for the first time. Ok they are not the traditional kind you would have at the cuchifrito but they were delicious. I would compare more to a crab cake. They were a little soggy but I think that's because you have to eat that stuff right away. Put in the oven and they were fine. Dipping sauces that accompany meals here are also great enough to mention in this review (if you're a sauce person you know ;-). Love the havana sushi app/ chicharron de pollo. Calamari's ok. I've ordered the baked whole chicken for take out. This will not feed a whole family (like Brisas) but not to say it is not good. I would compare to rotisserie chicken but better flavored. Me and my 17 year old can knock this out because chicken is small. Rice and beans on the side also small. Still good though but to feed a family of 4 you need two orders. Churrasco/ribeye and Lechoncito are good solid choices. Yuca mofongo is bomb. I also like the garlic chicken breast and ropa vieja. This is a great local spot with a diverse enough menu to keep you interested in coming again and again. DRINKS here have NEVER been a fail for me. I'll reserve my comments on service for when things open since it's been awhile since they've been open. Enjoy! read more

Was happy they opened this one up since it's closer than the Tremont location for me. Have gone three times now. Each time food drinks and service were on point. Always friendly staff. My husband made reservations for our 6th year anniversary specifically told the person over the phone that we were celebrating our wedding anniversary. You would think that the restaurant would send us a complimentary drink or write happy anniversary on the dessert plate we ordered. Ugh. not how you should run a business. Food was overall good. Friday June 30th I was having dinner with my family and friends in the evening. Our waitress was very nice and welcoming. We had drinks and appetizers and were preparing to order our main courses. We had three menus at our table and suddenly the hostess came to the table and asked for the menus. We told her we needed them; the hostess then abruptly grabbed the menu and told us she didn't have any and needed them in a very rude tone (there weren't any customers waiting to be seated). We were shocked and two minutes later she came back to the table and said we could have the menu if we needed it again in a very aggressive and rude manner. We asked to speak with her manager and she said "whatever". We expressed our grievances to the manager and the hostess began yelling at my cousin saying we were being disrespectful. She was escorted outside where she continued to rant, scream and curse. At that point we decided to pay the bill and leave. Once we exited, she began arguing and coming towards my cousin. The DJ had to come outside and hold her back as she stated she was ready to fight. All of this happened in front of a room full of customers. Management should had done a better job diffusing the situation. They allowed this disrespectful employee to carry on outside the place. We have never experienced this type of treatment at this establishment or any other. Your restaurant came highly recommended and we traveled all the way from Manhattan. We will never step foot in that place ever again and nor would we recommend this place to anyone. No one should have to deal with this type of gross disrespect when dining. read more

I purchased a Groupon for Havana Cafe because it's a 2 minute walk from my house and I wanted to try it out. We went on a weeknight and it wasn't too crowded like how it is on the weekends. When you get seated they give you complimentary bread with a black bean spread. The bread is nice and crusty which is great. We got the pastelon app and it was delicious. The plantain was sweet and the chicken filling with the melted cheese on top was a perfect combo. For entrees we ordered the salmon and churrascaria. Both entrees were delicious. We also got the white and red sangria. They were good and strong. Definitely felt a buzz after drinking only half. Maybe I'm a light weight. Horrible experience for the second time. The first time my husband and I went the wait time after we were seated was ridiculously long and it wasn't busy. As a fan of Havana Central in Times Square, I can say this food is amazing!!! This place never disappoints with its delicious choices of Cuban cuisine; my favorite: Ropa Vieja and it's convenient location right on Castle Hill. I usually get my food delivered since I order weekends. Making reservations is ideally preferred on weekends and of course holidays due to massive crowds. The E. Tremont location is also the same but I prefer going in person to that one since the warm weather days allows me to choose from the seating outside the restaurant so I can enjoy my Ropa vieja and end it with un cafecito con leche I would also like to add that they have a great kids menu if you you ever want to have a family dinner. I've been here before and it used to be great, however from the service to the food huge disappointment. The waitress took our orders right away however disappeared right after they brought the food. I had to get someone's attention to bring me water one thing that as soon as I sat, they would come right away and fill up the glass with water.I had the Ropa Vieja which was ok but but rice was hard tasted like left over and the beans very salty. At no point anyone came to ask if everything was ok. I thought of telling g the waitress about the food but she just took the plate and didnt ask about my experience. read more
