The environment and music was nice, food I was not impressed, i got a steak and I have to use the salt shaker because it had no taste. The services was terrible, it was a female and she was really one of the worst in a long time. No napkins, no forks or knifes when we got the food and we have to be calling people to get all this nonsense. Drinks are very very good. Attended brunch in October 2015 here and loved the food. I came for a birthday brunch . The most popular dish ordered at our table was the steak and eggs, everyone love it. It took them a while to seat us which was rather frustrating. To add insult to injury they seem to have forgotten that we were even there. I had to get up to find a manager to have my order taken which was pretty ridiculous. The staff seemed pretty disorganized as a whole. I wound up taking my meal to go as I was pressed for time & wound up having to go BACK to the restaraunt because they forgot a piece of the order. Aside from that, the food was undeniably good & the staff; though off track were apologetic & friendly enough. Been working in the area for four years and cannot believe I never made it here. Friday nights are busy but totally worth the wait! Happy hour monitors and margaritas at $5 a pop-until 7pm-cannot be beat. Waitresses were so friendly! The food was amazing! Don't be fooled by the "appetizer" portions-large enough for entree for one and that includes leftovers! Delicious food and there's available takeout. Definitely coming back! read more

Great brunch, delicious food and the wait staff was attentive. The décor is modern and the place is very clean. I'm usually a fan of Havana Cafe, however today we made reservations to celebrate my friends' engagement at 12:30pm, and upon arrival we were informed that they made a mistake. Apparently they took several reservations for 12:30pm but it should have been for 12pm. Instead of admitting their mistake, they told us they tried to call us an hour before, which was not truthful since my friend received no voicemail or missed calls, and responded by giving away our table. I love their food but for this type of customer service, it's not worth it. If I could give Zero stars I would for the lack of respect. read more

A year ago, I would have given this place 5 stars, hands down. We've been there for late lunch during the week, for Sunday brunch, and for dinner many times. We've brought people from other boroughs. The food and the service were always outstanding. I lived in South Florida for 20 years, so I'm a big fan of Cuban food. Then, a few months ago, we went, a party of 4, for dinner. My partner ordered the El Vaquero, which is a rib eye steak, with shrimp fries and a corn chimichurri. The steak was ordered rare, but came medium, it was about a quarter inch thick, and the fries were a shrimpy, greasy mess. I ordered the Lechoncito, which is a wonderful piece of bone-in roasted pork covered in a sour orange mojo. It comes with a delicious coconut rice with real coconut in it. Prior to this visit, the meat literally fell off the bone and was succulent and delicious. This visit, the piece of pork was literally hard as a rock and dry as a bone. It was inedible. I told the waitress who simply said "sorry". There was no offer to take it off the bill or even to bring over a manager. The next time we went (about 3 weeks ago), I asked the waiter how it was and explained about the prior time. He said it was good, he had no complaints. So I ordered it. While not as hard as the prior time, it was very dry and chewy and the rice was just plopped on the plate with the meat tossed on top. There are dishes here that are still good. The sweet plantains are tasty, though sometimes greasy. They had a special app of Ropa Vieja over a corn arepa, which is incredibly tasty. All in all, service and quality has diminished significantly since they first opened. I'll have to think twice before coming here again, which is a real shame, because I live in the neighborhood and it was one of my favorite places. read more

These guys have lost their touch throughout the years. I remember when the service here was friendly and positively engaging, now all I got was cold stares and blank expression with minimal to no small talk. I know being a waiter sucks but you gotta sell it at least, it IS the service industry after all. Solid Cuban food! I've been here a few times, Shocked I haven't written a review yet! You are really hard pressed to find good food in this area, so it's nice going into a nice place and actually having a really good dinner. I've tried the shrimp appetizer and it is garlicky and delicious. The Havana or maybe Cuban salad, not sure of the name, is very good. The dressing is creamy and I am sure unhealthy, but extremely good. For dinner I usually get the shrimp or steak. You cannot go wrong with either one. They both come with white rice and black beans. The beans are delicious! My boyfriend always gets the red snapper, which comes in a mofongo bowl. It is slamming! Probably one of the best dishes on the menu. Definitely try the sangrias, both white and red are excellent. The mojitos are also very good! This place is a must try in Pelham bay. read more

Havana cafe is a really nice spot! Quite shocked actually. I really don't venture to this side of the Bronx often, but I will now! Okay so I received a groupon as a gift so decided to double date with a friend. Upon arriving we were seated and our waiter came over.. we told him we have a groupon and he asks "did you make a reservation?" We told him we didn't (we didn't realize that it was on the groupon) he proceeded to tell us that we were suppose to make a reservation, but I guess he spoke to a manager and everything was fine. For the rest of the night our waiter basically ignored us...I mean he came over twice just to take orders when he was ready to take orders. There was a comedy show going on (which was really good) so you don't want to have yell to get your waiters attention. Food wise it was pretty good. Appetizers we ordered Pastelón (which we asked for chicken but got beef... wasnt a big issue, but if you ask for something....) and Empanadas de Espinaca which was really good. For our mains we ordered Camarones Enchilados(Good flavor but shrimp was rubbery),Churasco(the steak its self had no flavor! Like no salt or pepper. They just cook and put other sauces on top, but that's not how you cook any kind of steak), Arroz Con Pollo(ok), and Salmon (ok). I actually wish the food runner was our waiter because he actually came back and asked us if everything was ok and he got us some more chimichurri. We were planning on having a few drinks that night but no server. He finally came back, we ordered two drinks andthat's about it. We weren't offered a dessert menu or even asked if we wanted dessert. We just asked for the check and to go containers and left. I left a $10 tip because it wasn't good service. I always tip generously, but I'm not going to give you $30 tip and you barely even checked on me. I guess that's what people mean when they say they go to restaurants with a groupon and get treated different. read more

this dive is so over rated. first of all, they refuse to sit a party at their table unless all guests have arrived. secondly, they pump up the menu with words that have nothing to do with the dish what so ever and lastly, they over charge!!! the prices on the menu are set and when you get the bill each and every dish is $2.00 to $3.00 more!!! wtf is that about? the pernil cuban sandwich had a rubbery dead animal taste and no flavor but that of dead animal!!! gross. just phucking gross. read more

Well if I could give it zero stars I would the food was great but the service was horrible went on a Tuesday night and it wasn't crowded but the way the waitress treated us you would think it was overly crowded. She took forever to even take our order than when the food finally arrived ( that also took long ) she never once came over to check on us. Our beverage cups were empty she never asked if we wanted more soda. She was gone with the wind for about 20 mins. Drinks are fabulous, food is just ok. Always a long wait. Happy Hour is packed and have to wait a long time for a drink - they should have more bartenders. Bartenders they do have are wonderful - very friendly and make a terrific drink. Especially like the mojitos of all flavors. read more

After much research, I decided this would be the perfect place to take my sick mother to celebrate her birthday. Upon arrival, I asked one of the ladies for a table for six. She asked if I would like to sit at a high table. I declined, knowing my mom wouldn't be comfortable sitting on a bar stool like chair. Then she offered us a table for four people, which I of course declined, as we were a party of 6. She then explained to me that we would have to wait about 30 minutes so they can get tables together to accommodate us. We went to wait outside. After 45 minutes, I went inside the restaurant and asked another lady how much longer the wait would be. She reassured me it would only be a few minutes more, and I asked how many minutes, since we've already been waiting 45. She pointed at another woman and said that she would know better. That woman was preoccupied on the phone, so I waited. After that, the ladies tried to avoid all eye contact. I said excuse me over and over again, but they were too busy texting and on Instagram to notice. Finally I yell, excuse me, and the original lady asked if I needed help. I told her to take me off the waiting list, I was leaving. By then an hour had passed, and I had enough of the lack of professionalism. We ended up going to a restaurant a few blocks away. read more

Horrible drinks. Sangria as usual had no taste no flavor. It just taste like dry asss cheap wine dumped into a dirty bucket with stale fruit. They coudnt even make a spritr with vodka. The sprite was flat wih no taste. All drinks horrible. This place was good in the beginning but now it got overcrowded they r not trying to keep people satisfied. i come here often because its near my house and they have happy hour and amazing mojitos lol, im a chicken lover so i usually order the pollo al mojo, which is great! nicely seasoned and very juicy, i recently discovered their chicharron de pollo appetizers, and now i order it as an entree! its soo yummy! my only complaint is every time i come here my rice is always hard! like they scraped the bottom of the pot to have enough rice for my plate. please please only give pegao to those who ask for it, other than that no complaints! :) read more

My group and I were treated so amazingly by the staff. We had a reservation and we were seated promptly. Since we had never been there we let the staff make most of the food choices for us and EVERYTHING we ate was amazing. From our very first Passion Mojitos to the last bite of tres leches cake...AMAZING! I'm pretty sure we just had every appetizer on their menu and everything was so flavorful and well seasoned, the churrasco was PERFECT and while we barely had room for dessert we went ahead and split a few things and WOW am I glad I at least had room for a few bites of flan & tres leches. Was their for the first time for a Birthday on 6/9/14 I must admit I was Impressed .... didnt take but about a minute to be greeted with smiles and welcoming us...we were seated and then greeted by our servers(3) very pleasant full of personality , one to take our orders , one to bring our drinks Happy Hour (3-7) $5 a drink, awesome drinks, another one to bring out our food , another to take our dinnerware ... I must say they all were all very on top of things flet like royalty. ..LOL.. The ambiance was very Cuban Latin cultura great music I had a wonderful time , the staff was very curtious friendly and ready to answer any questions ..,as for the food outstanding as well as the desserts... A+ for presentation ... prices are reasonable $$ for the amount of food you are given.... at the time we couldn't do the outdoor dinning cause of the rain but do have intentions to visit again.... Came here for Happy Hour in the summer and the waitress was great. We were able to have drinks and the happy hour food at a table with no problem. Today, different story. Walk in on a Tuesday evening, one party of 2 and a fully seated bar. Asked for a Happy Hour menu, waiter brought it and said drinks available but "bar bites" are not. I said that we've been able to order drinks and food from Happy Hour menu at a table before so can we do it again? He had to ask the manager and she told him no. On a Tuesday night where only 1 couple is seated for dinner??? Really? This establishment claims they're family friendly, but clearly they're not. Ended up moving to high bar stools across the bar with my 4 year old. Disappointed that they took the Tacos off the Happy Hour menus. In fact, they used to have Taco Tuesday. Don't know why any restaurant owner would remove Taco Tuesday specials! Isn't your goal to make money? The new options are disappointing and a waste of money. $8 for 6 TINY wings and $8 for only 2 sliders. If this restaurant wants to stay in business on Castle Hill as long as other well known establishments like Sabrosura or Brisas, they need to evaluate their offers and pricing because a lot of it doesn't make any sense. The couple sitting down ordered a steak meanwhile just around the corner at Havanas Take-Out side, you can get the same steak with 2 sides for $12. The only difference is sitting down and having people that don't want to be there service you for double the price and then expect a tip. Stick to orders from take-out side. Forget about Happy Hour again at this place. read more

I live in the area and I LOVE this place. The coconut mojitos are delicious. You MUST try the CUBAN PASTELON to die for !!! Their Ropa Vieja comes with rice, beans and maduros so good as well as their Pollo MOJO. Nice atmosphere, nice place to go eat with friends. Can't believe it's been over a year, but we're back. We made it at the height of the dinner crowd on Saturday, but we were able to be seated where we could hear each other talk. Came here on a date using a groupon. Normally I'm not a fan of groupons but I'm glad we tried it at this restaurant. They start you out with a roll of bread glazed with garlic butter which is served with a black bean sauce. Very tasty! for an appetizer we had Chicharron de pollo which is fried chicken cutlets with a creamy jalepeneo sauce topped with onions and fresh jalepeneos. Im a person that loves a spicy dish and didn't get that here, the chicken was rather dry and the sauce did nothing to revive it. With a few tweaks it would of been amazing. For dinner i had the salmon served with fingerling potatoes and garlic spinach. I must say the best thing on the plate were the potatoes. The salmon didn't have much flavor to it as well as the spinach. Not sure if it had anything to do with the restaurant almost closing but that is no excuse for subpar dishes. Overall the restaurant was nice, staff attentive and reasonably priced. I would give it another shot. read more

Havana Cafe has been my favoite brunch spot for my wifey and I but everytime I go theres always some hidden exceptions. Today I went to havana for brunch and to my surprise the bar, which is on a first come first serve basis, had RESERVED seats. You can imagine how this was a surprise to me since i was a frequent visitor. I decided to ask the manager expecting this to be a mistake and behold it wasnt. The manager who was kind enough to speak to me told me he thinks the seats were being held for a party who was already waiting at the bar..Hmmm..So your party cannot be seated at a table unless everyone is present and the bar is first come first serve yet there was 3 RESERVED seats at the bar..the female at the door who seats you was kind enough to seat us at a table which reservations were late..Overall the food is great and the ambiance makes you feel at home. Havana is a must do if your want an amazing brunch experience.. read more
