Went here for happy hour on Friday. We sat at the bar. A guy who looked like the manager greeted us as we walked in which was nice. Who ever the girl was with blond hair at the bar was a space case. She didn't even say hello or offer us water. It wasn't like she was busy and if she was she should of asked for help. We finally placed our order and she asked us if we ordered food. Yes we did duh you just took our order. The lady next to us wasn't very happy either. Thank goodness the food was good. Ordered Cuban sandwich that was flattened by a steamroller and cheese left too vinegary for my taste, lots of pickles smashed into the cheese. The Ropa Vieja, (beef stew) was very chewy, really tough and now need to see if I have TMJ from all the gnawing. The meat wasn't braised long enough for the cheap cut of meat used. Everyone got sick the next day but me I only had drinks since they never came to check on the food and once it was brought to the owners attention still no offer for replacement or to have the raw food taken off the bill. Not sure about these bad reviews...To be honest, the low-mid tier reviews kept us from coming here for a little while. Too bad for us, because we had an absolutely fabulous meal here tonight. We ordered the scallops and the shrimp appetizers. Both were buttery and cooked to perfection. Appetizers came out in an orderly fashion. We had the paella and the pork tenderloin entrees for dinner, and both were excellent. Service was spot on, attentive but not overbearing. They took nice care of our daughter. Mostly, reasonably priced like everything else in Walnut Creek, it could stand to be 10% less to be considered good value. But the quality was there, and we did not go hungry. I went here yesterday for branch to celebrate a friend's birthday. My first experience was excellent. We sat outside. We went at 1:30pm. There was a 30 minute wait for outdoor seating. There was plenty of indoor seating available. We enjoyed drinks at the bar while we waited for our table. While at the bar we enjoyed Mojitos that were made great tasting and strong. I did notice the bottomless Mojitos we had after being seated, tasted as if they contain less alcohol but they still taste it OK. The food was delicious. We had multiple orders of the lamb chops and empanadas. The empanadas arrived to our table piping hot but they were delicious. The lamb chops were prepared perfectly medium well. We also had scallops and French toast that were delicious as well and well prepared. Our waitress was attentive and welcoming. Came here and booked a last minute reservation for Saturday night for 7:30, we were seated a mere 5 minutes after arrival. Our server was with us pretty quickly and we ordered both our drinks and 2 dishes to start with. She brought us the food pretty quick, croquetas and empanadas. Our drinks took a bit longer. We never received plates or utensils and waited for our server to notice or to even flag her but we never could or did. Finally flagged the hostess who was kind enough to get plates, utensils, and glasses for us. Our drinks arrived shortly after. Then we waited again because we had the glasses but no water. We ended up having to flag the bus boy because our server never paid attention or came to check on us. We watched her walk around to her other, what I counted, maybe 4 tables and bring them plates and utensils and water. Kinda just added to the frustration that she never bothered to get us any of that. We finally flagged her to place orders for the rest of our food but she never cleared our finished starter plates. It was another long wait before we got our other food, lamb, and the cubano sandwich followed by the puerco entree to share. When another guy brought our food he cleared our plates. Only after another 5 minutes did our server FINALLY ask how things were. My husband ordered a beer. When it was brought there wasn't a glass to go with it. When we asked her for a glass she brought us one you could see clear as day was dirty. We never got her attention again so my husband drank his water and used that cup for his beer. We didn't dare stay for dessert. I watched for an hour and a half as 3 other servers ran frantically back and forth from kitchen to tables while our server took her time. I have worked in the food industry and still do, I have sympathy for busy evenings and little things forgotten but this was beyond that. This was some of the worst service I've experienced in a long time. The food was all great minus our pork entree which I found was just ok, tasted like regular BBQ pork. Would I come back? Very disappointed. Came last night with family in from out of town. Mojitos were not good. And what's worse is my meal was horrible. I'm not one to complain or send food back: however, my paella arrived significantly later than everybody else's main dish. The excuse given was because mine had to be made gluten-free. I accepted that and was patiently waiting enjoying the conversation. What's unacceptable is when it finally arrived it tasted burnt. Clearly the rice has been burnt in the pan and they served me the rice from that burnt pan which was not contaminated with that burnt flavor. I had no choice but to send back to the kitchen. The server came back to tell me the chef agreed with me and would be remaking for me. The manager then came to apologize and said they would expedite the ticket as the rest of my party was already finishing their meals at this point. He also stated my meal would be on the house. My meal finally arrived and was subpar compared to an authentic paella. Not worth complaining about, just not amazing and after all the issues was left underwhelmed overall. Then to top it off, I was in fact charged for the meal. Wow! Talk about a terrible experience. It's unfortunate with all the places in town to choose from but Jen family in town we chose Havana and had this experience. We will likely not be returning again. read more

While visiting up north this weekend a friend of ours suggested this place for dinner. After looking at Yelp I was bit hesitant being three stars and food didn't look authentic but since it was Cuban food and me being a cubana I said let's give it a shot. The place was packed and it was loud. People were chatting, drinking and grubbing! Place is not too big but has two rooms with tables. It has a small bar area with a TV above and two bathrooms in the back. They only have one bathroom for men and another for women so you may have to wait if it is being used. The bathrooms are right by the kitchen and you can see drinks being served and traffic coming in and out from the kitchen. Our waiter had a quirky and fun personality. He cracked jokes and kept the mood fun. He had a cool way of tossing up glass cups to pick them off the table too. I started off with a blood orange mojito! I'm not a big fan of mixed drinks but I must say it was tasty with fresh mint and a nice orange tang. Definitely recommend the mojito to others. They don't have beers on tap though and when I made the switch to beer had to get bottled beer but hey drinks are drinks. There menu doesn't have too much which is easier for selection. They have 'tapas' which are small plates or appetizers. We originally ordered two and the waiter made it seem like it wasn't enough for a group of 5. So we added two more which was more than enough and we think our waiter did an up sell. The ham croquetas were delicious with a bit of cheese in them. The twice fried plantains were very tasty. I like how they weren't too sweet and came with a pineapple salsa. The boniato garlic fries were banging and are a great choice for the garlic lovers. The best app was the last one we got which was the grilled shrimp. The shrimp was cooked perfect and the rice it came with was delicious and had a sauce on it that was tasty. Once we ate all the apps which were delicious we really looked forward to our meals but ended up being super disappointed. For starters the black beans were tasteless and hard. For my meal it was chicken in mojo which was fried and topped with sweet onion. Turned out the chicken was breaded and fried. I was not expecting that but it was juicy. Since it was in a sauce with onion it was too sweet and the breading was soggy. It was edible but not the best. The best part of the dish was grilled corn kernels topped with cheese. This was really tasty. My aunts ropa vieja which is beef was hard and not seasoned well. We all said the same thing about the beans being bad and corn being the highlight. Definitely would come back here for starters and drinks only but not dinner plates. On Saturday nights they have live salsa music after 9pm with a small orchestra playing in the front. read more

We had Havana cater our family Christmas Eve party. We had to have the food delivered on the evening of 12/23 because there were no delivery options for 12/24. The ordering and delivery processes went perfectly well. I refrigerated everything overnight. The food was excellent - we have Cubans in our family, and they along with everyone else really enjoyed the dishes we had (sofrito rice, black beans, lechon, and Ropa Vieja). The food warmed up well on Christmas Eve and tasted every bit as good as I'm sure it did the day before when it was made. It made my hosting/entertaining life much better to have this great meal catered and delivered! read more

You get decent food (small portions) but at a decent price The eh: Their pitchers of mojitos are $60 each... so the discounted price on "Mojito Mondays" is $30. Recommend buying individual glasses on Mondays so you can sample all their different awesome flavors, don't just get one pitcher. They have so many good mojito flavors to try out. Side note: Frank was our server and did a great job. Also, when I emailed the restaurant to double-check the price on our bill (did NOT know a pitcher of mojitos could cost so much lol), the manager was super quick, polite, and answered all my questions.
