Vegan Pumpkin Latte and Vegan Breakfast Sandwich
    Nathan K.

This was a hidden Gem. I had completed visiting the "Witch's Castle" (in actuality, a ruin sanctuary in the woods ) by foot and I needed a place to get breakfast. This really hit the spot. The coconut milk was amazing. It really added a creamy texture to the pumpkin flavor. When I ate the vegan breakfast sandwich. It was so good. I could barely tell the difference. It was so subtle. I could barely tell that I was eating something without egg and meat. That's how awesome it was. The servers knew how to handle that kind of preference for trying out vegan food. Awesome job!!

The craving for a pumpkin spiced drink was hitting and I was already in the area for a haircut so I stopped by after I finished. The barista was friendly when I asked if they had a pumpkin chai. I didn't realize it at the time but the pumpkin sauce they use in their drink is vegan so that made the drink much more enjoyable. Their chai is quite spiced, which I love, in combination with the creamy oatmilk and sweet and smooth pumpkin was heavenly. It was the pick me up I needed.

Friendly service, and the drinks were good. Coffee notes came through nicely. The cardamom and salt latte was especially tasty. The hazelnut and orange was good too, but nothing super special. Would revisit if in the area again

Haven Coffee is a haven. A small, cozy cafe in the NW district, it is tucked away from the hustle and bustle of NW 23rd, and it is the perfect neighborhood coffee shop. They feature coffee from Proud Mary, with rotating beans and seasonal specials. I got their gingerbread molasses latte and it was delicious! The coffee was smooth and the gingerbread was sweet with a subtle hint of spice. The baristas were also friendly and helpful in answering questions and giving recommendations. Overall, a great experience and I'm looking forward to my next visit!

Beyond friendly service from the barista (sorry I didn't catch your name). Sincerely appreciate the great vibes and recommendations. The Portland fog was exquisite. Perfect with oat milk - not too sweet with excellent floral flavors. Love this local neighborhood coffee shop.

What a sweet cafe! Everyone is always so nice and welcoming and they make AMAZING coffee. Shout-out to Ella for always being awesome. Don't count on finding a spot when it's busy, but enjoy sitting there if you can snag a spot! Dog-friendly when ordering.

The space feels cozy, welcoming, and full of personality. I especially loved the little post-it wall where customers can leave behind anything they want a small detail that makes the café feel even more personal and community-driven. What I ordered: Soft Cream Matcha One of the creamiest matchas I've ever had! The soft cream was incredibly fluffy and smooth, while the matcha itself was bold enough to come through with every sip and also had a coconuty essence to it. It had just the right amount of sweetness without overpowering the matcha. If you love a rich, creamy matcha, this is definitely one to try. Es-Yen A classic Thai-style iced coffee made with condensed milk. This was strong, sweet, and definitely had that much-needed wake-me-up effect! The condensed milk gave it a creamy sweetness while still allowing the bold coffee flavor to shine through. It was the perfect balance of sweet and strong exactly what I needed. Buttered & Sweetened Condensed Milk Toast I originally had my eye on the pandan toast, but it's clearly a popular choice because it was already sold out earlier in the day! So I went with the buttered and sweetened condensed milk toast instead, and I'm so glad I did. The toast was crispy on the outside, buttery, warm, and finished with that sweet condensed milk flavor. Every bite practically melted in my mouth. The pandan toast is definitely on my list for next time! My Portland experience was made even better by my stop at Kaleido Coffee. The owners were so sweet and welcoming, taking the time to give me recommendations and making sure everyone was taken care of even during a busy rush. Until next time, Portland!

Early in the morning the coffee shop was pretty busy, especially as stores were not opened yet. As it was my first time in the shop it took me awhile to process the menu- this is definitely a coffee focus place (not for tea drinkers). And the focus seems to be on more coffee forward drinks, rather than jacked up with sugar and other stuff like Starbucks. Coffee prices are inline with other coffee stores in the area. As for seating, the shop provides tables seating. Plus there is a nice coffee bar at the windows, which is perfect for people watching. Plus there is a small coffee bar that faces the barista if you want to watch drinks being made. Parking can be tough in this area as the main shopping street....parking is on the street and off the main street.

The Loss of a True Neighborhood Anchor…read more For years, this coffee house was the primary reason I loved living in this neighborhood. Under its original stewardship, it provided a rare "third place"--a vital social anchor where writers, neighbors, and local faces created a true sense of home. It was a space where you could spend two hours writing in the morning, knowing the flow would be punctuated by the pleasant interruptions of catching up with familiar locals. When the new ownership took over, I eagerly supported them, hoping that inclusive community spirit would endure. Unfortunately, the culture has shifted toward a rigid, punitive customer service framework that completely lacks the ability to navigate human communication differences or de-escalate sensitive situations. A simple, polite morning request to lower the early morning music unexpectedly scaled into an antagonistic confrontation with young staff. Then, in a subsequent incident, instead of a calm intervention, during a conversation, I was publicly yelled at across a crowded room by another young employee. Their continued rude behavior pushed me past a breaking point out of sheer anxiety, and I uncharacteristically lost my temper, resorted to profanity, and walked out. While I take full ownership of my part--reacting defensively under that immense stress--the owners' ultimate solution was to permanently ban a long-term, 5-plus years loyal patron rather than engage in a mutual conversation about what caused the friction in the first place. For an establishment that projects an image of neighborhood inclusivity, the reality is a stark lack of grace. By prioritizing a punitive model over community care, the new management has hollowed out the very environment that made this place a longtime, beloved local fixture. It is deeply saddening and has been a great upset to lose such a meaningful part of my daily neighborhood routine, but those who value a truly inclusive, understanding neighborhood environment should be aware of how the culture here has fundamentally changed.
