I went for the first time today for lunch. I was craving a Loco Moco. Well, I was shocked. A Hawaiian restaurant that doesn't serve Loco Moco. I'm not sure you're allowed to call yourself Hawaiian without Loco Moco. I had a spicy chicken dish instead. It was ok but not great. Service was ok but it's kinda self serve. TL:DR - the saddest interior with minimal furniture. Tables are tacky neon metal lawn tables that feel like they could collapse any minute. High chair was disturbingly sticky even after a wipe down. Menu is tiny, basically 2 meats in two different form factors. Chicken tasted ok, but was abnormally dark. Mac Salad was a bright spot, slightly thick and creamy. And it's really 2 meats, cause one is just a spicy version of another meat. After ordering 2/3's of the menu (a huli huli chicken and spicy huli huli chicken aka the Mauna Loa), we sat down at some of the jankiest excuses for dine-in tables I've ever seen. Literally neon metal lawn tables that feel like they could have buckled at any moment. And they only had about 3, which wasn't a big deal cause most people didn't seem like they wanted to stay anyway. We also utilized their high chair, which was abnormally sticky, even after wiping it down. Could have used it as a 3M strip if I wanted. The food itself wasn't actually that bad, but it definitely wasn't good either. Both chickens were disturbingly dark, like fried rice that is brown. It tasted ok, but looked over cooked. They did give you a good amount of meat, and proportionate amount of rice, which is sadly a plus in fast food take out spots. The mac salad was actually a bright spot. Slightly thicker than most but still creamy without the tang of miracle whip. That being said, I will never be back. Even if I wasn't dining in, there are better options. read more

Don't really have much to say other than it's good food but all of it tastes the same looks the same and you can't really tell if you're eating pork chicken or beef because they put so much teriyaki on everything but it's good The rice is kind of dry and the macaroni salad's weird but if you like that kind of food You should try it. read more

The three of us just had the huli huli chicken and the Mac. The three of us all exploded in the bathroom with diarrhea after only an hour after eating. Pretty typical Hawaiian grub served in a clean setting and actually the friendliest gal who was serving, taking orders and cleaning who actually appeared to like her job!!! This place sucks. I ordered the large chicken and vegetable plate, and asked if they could sub the rice and max salad for extra veggies. They charged me an extra 1.50 for both, so extra $3. Total was $16....that's a lot of money for a meal but if the amount was right it would kind of be worth it? But they still somehow managed to skimp my order. For $16 including added charges you would think the to go box would be filled to the almost brim but it's just so skimp and not even close to what it's worth. I love me some Hawaiian barbecue and if I can get it while I'm on vacation in the PNW, so be it. I stopped in to Hawaiian Time since it was in my Aunt's neighborhood. It was just before 6pm on Saturday, the store wasn't terribly busy just yet. I placed an order for the Kalua pig, regular sized, and took a seat to wait for it to be cooked. When it was ready, I was more than ready to tuck in. It was tasty! The Mac Salad was respectable, the rice was good, and the meat tender. The only thing it was missing was the sauteed cabbage. All in all, I had extra left over, and that was enough for lunch the next day! I can't imagine how much they serve in their Alii (king) size. WOW. read more

As someone who travels to Hawaii every year or a few times per year, I would not recommend this place. I just left the location an hour ago w a to-go box of mix-plate w teriyaki chicken and Kalua pork for $11.95. It a great deal for a lot of food but it tasted horrible. Chicken was mini bits and pieces of overly marinated super dry chicken and Kalua pork was tasteless and boiled. They gave a lot of wet sticky rice which is not the way to make a rice and macaroni salad that tasted like plastic. Maybe plastic is what they use to store it, as it was not fresh. I'm highly disappointed because it was my first meal of the day. I think the clue should have been that there were no Hawaiian employees, not even the cook. Food, food and more food. I had the Alii mixed plate with the pig and spicy chicken. Alii is Hawaiian for gut stuffer. Included with rice and macaroni salad, this food is tops in the area. The pig was succulent, smoked well and moist. Too often pulled pork can be overdone. Not here, with ample portions you can't go wrong. The spicy chicken comes in various spice levels. The Norm is the lowest spice. For you fellow dragon breathers the hot or Super Hawaiian will be your best bet. One of the best parts was actually a side and that was the macaroni salad. Now to each there own but the sauce on the macaroni was quite delicious and I being a huge fan of all things pepper, is well infused in this side dish salad. All in all, this is quite an enjoyable place with both high top and standard tables to eat at, quick, and prompt service. Located in the old Skippers location, parking is plentiful and easily accessible from Olympic street. I place an order for my crew of 35 people total on April 20th for pick up on April 23rd at two separate times. The manager called me on the day before to tell me that she cannot accommodate my order. They have a 25-plate limit. I actually had 2 separate orders. Neither was over 25. I had explained that my crew was expecting this, and I had put in my order in 3 days in advance. went here a few days ago and during covid. Everything is to go. I ordered the chicken and veggies. Came with sautéed veggies, teriyaki chicken, rice and macaroni. I did not try the macaroni since I do not like it in general. There was not a lot of chicken or rice and it was all under a huge bed of rice so you get like about two giant balls of rice. This was our first visit to Hawaiian Time on Olympic. Our prior visits were to the W. 11th location, and were all good experiences overall. Having said that, the food we got tonight from the Olympic location was much better than we've had before. I got the teriyaki chicken and mixed veggies. The chicken was moist and the veggies had a nice little snap to them. I loved the big pieces of veggies; red and green peppers, mushrooms, onions, and snap beans. The macaroni salad was, as usual, yummy. It's so different from the type you get in a grocery store deli. This is savory, unlike the other kinds that are just way too sweet. The macaroni is cooked right, not mushy. Nicely al dente. We got the regular size portions, and we aren't going away hungry. The portions are big and carb heavy, but so good. A glutinous good time Alii style. Salty, juicy, meats with 22 pounds of rice and 17 pounds of mayonnaise with macaroni and pepper. I am pretty sure my heart stopped for a minute at the 50% meal complete mark. I tried the beef, chicken and pulled pork. All of them were perfectly cooked and very flavorful. When I called back to pick up the Mac salad they forgot the guy on the phone told me to come back in. When I went back to get the Mac salad it was over-salted like nothing I've ever tasted before. It was so bad and inedible. Maybe the dude was salty that I asked for what I ordered? There's no way a salt lover like me can think anything is over-salted unless the chef was ruthlessly throwing it in there. I also think they need to add katsu to their menu. This is a pretty decent restaurant line. Almost authentic, more Hawaiian-inspired Fusion food, but still pretty good. I have to say I'm partial to this particular location, they spice their Spicy Chicken just right (at least according to my preferences). The restrooms have always been pretty clean. This place is just a bummer now. There only about 3 main menu items now. Two chicken one pork. We use to come here for the Korean beef. The Mac salad is still great and there but the chicken is not something I ever came here for. Been coming here since I was a kid and yesterday was my last day. Hawaiian Time is my new favorite West Coast franchise! I get the #6 every time I go there which is the Volcanic Chicken. They ask how spicy you want it, and medium has almost no spiciness to it so I get it HOT. Dakine (small) is perfect lunch portion for me - comes with meat, white rice, and their macaroni salad which should contain a prescription because this stuff is addicting! Solid plate lunches for a great price. I've been coming here for years and the food is always good. Doesn't match the plate lunches in Hawaii but they try their best and it's some of the closest you'll be here in the Northwest. Their Mauna Loa chicken is delicious, if you're a risk taker and lover of all things spicy, ask for it Hawaiian style. So this location just recently opened back up roughly two weeks ago, and they are already headed down a bad path. Their customer service was horrendous. We had ordered over 20 meals for some workers, and ended up being shorted 3. When we called they said come on down they'll fix the error, and when we arrived we were told that no, they in fact would not because they "know they didn't miss any." This was from their manager. I admit, I had Hawaiian food once in my life before at a long-forgotten restaurant, many years ago.... and it was awful. I've been pooh-poohing Hawaiian places ever since. Um, what a mistake that was. Decided to give this place a try and OMG, it's my new favorite! I've only had the Honolulu beef because it's just too good that I can't bring myself to try anything else and not have the beef. MAC SALAD... is soooo good! It can't be much more than macaroni, mayo, and pepper, but it's so plain and good. Here's what I learned- mix your meat, rice, and mac salad all together into an ugly mess and eat it like that, it really is delicious. I guess the mac salad is supposed to cut the saltiness a bit (and it IS salty!). I don't know if others mix it all up, but I think it's heavenly like that. So yeah, go.
