I also grabbed prepackaged Cole slaw (love, love Cole slaw!) - the Cole slaw not only did not taste fresh, it was flat without tang or creaminess. Came in and was greeted by the sweetest and soft spoken cashier. She was very patient as I took some time to decide what I wanted to order (I did come close to closing -- don't kill me!). I have enjoyed this place for years but recently, for some weird reason, they allow their chips to expire for months before replacing them. I always buy them with a sandwich but have repeatedly informed employees of the expiration, and based on their response they don't seem to care. This has been happening for the last 8 months. Again, today, I see the chips expired 2 months ago and politely let the employee know. He responds "okay" with a blank stare. Weird. You're welcome. I got to wonder what else is expired behind the counter now and how much they care or replace in a timely manner. Unfortunately, I probably won't return because this reflects on the work ethic and customer service of the entire place. I hope they can remedy this for other customers. I LOVE this place Banana bread. Great baking but their banana bread is my favorite. They don't put in any nuts and it's always soft and moist. They have other items too. Unfortunately they no longer open on weekends. Weekdays only and that is such a huge disappointment to me. I don't have time to come out here on weekdays....sigh. The food at this place is OMG good! Seriously, I was considering ordering a second piece of ham and cheese quiche; however, I refrained and ordered a scone instead. I was disappointed that there were no flavors available for my latte. They did have Mocha, so my husband was happy. When we placed our order at the counter, the person who took our order seemed annoyed. I asked her if they had any quiche left and she pointed to the pastry shelves and said, "That's what we have." The social mission of this operation is impeccable as the bakery is used as a training ground for the homeless or at risk or those with disabilities. It also happens to have a prime location at the corner of Fulton and Gough where I'm guessing they get a consistent flow of foot traffic from City Hall as well as Hayes Valley.
