This bakery has the most DELICIOUS seasonal fruit frangipane tarts I've ever had in my life! Whoever makes these tarts is a magician and I make my way to this bakery every weekend to get some of these tarts, 100% worth it. Stopped in this quaint cafe for dessert and coffee with my family. Place was packed but we were able to put some of the indoor tables together for our party of 8. I've only been to Thorough Bread a few times IRL for coffee and pastries, but my husband probably visits there several times a month when he's in the neighbourhood, and it's been a win every time! It works well for grab-and-go, but there are also a few tables inside, plus a back patio with more seating that's really nice on a good day (although it can get crowded sometimes). The coffee is fine, but the pastries are the real reason we go. Our current favourites are a savoury ham pastry and a sweet almond pastry, but they rotate offerings - including themed treats for holidays and events - so it's always fun to try something new. Compared to other bakeries in the city, the prices feel more reasonable, and the location is easy to reach on foot or by public transit (MUNI station nearby). read more

Really amazing bakery. We got a baguette that was perfectly crusty on the outside and soft on the inside. The croissant was flaky. The veggie sandwich was fresh and the bread was really good. The oatmilk latte I had was also amazing and really large size which I loved. The cafe is large with a nice backyard with sitting. My only criticism is that the lady that was helping us wasn't very nice. Not sure if she was just having a bad day. It might have been an off day for her. Highly recommend though read more

Super cute bakery in Duboce Triangle with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. We got a scone, choc chip cookie, and some chilled drinks. The pastries were good and well-priced. One downside is that their bathroom is out of service and they do not have ice, so no iced barista drinks. Love the painted baguette on the door. read more

This is such a cute bakery! I was looking for some dessert post brunch and I'm so happy I stumbled upon this place. I only had one thing on my mind - chocolate chip cookie. I needed it. I wanted. And I wanted it now. This place surpassed my cookie expectations. They had so many baked goods to choose from in a nicely organized display case! The cashier was also very friendly! This is my absolutely favorite bakery in SF! Not only is it reasonably priced but everything is so well baked / cooked! They have warm sandwiches and can warm up any of the baked goods too. THE BLUEBERRY SCONES Are my all-time favorite but they sometimes run out in the mornings so you have to get there early. They have an amazing variety of pastries and breads with seasonal ones each time. Just to note - they do NOT have ice so they can't make you an iced coffee or anything. The vibe is lowkey and they have the funniest signs outside and always have some fun display in the window. PS. There is a really cute patio in the back! We had the mushroom/thyme/cheese croissant which is cool conceptually but in practice, the cheese and mushroom are flavorally and texturally similar and the experience is a bit one dimensional--I'd have appreciated more thyme or some black pepper to cut the dominant savory note. We also had the corn/cheddar scone, which was pleasantly crispy on the outside and as soft/moist inside as one could expect from a scone. Corn in a pastry always pleases me. I wanted to love this place... I really believed in them when they won 3rd Best Croissant in SF in 2023. I cowork a lot around this part of Church St and I am very dissatisfied with the amount of bakeries nearby for a sweet treat. Everytime I've come here, the service has been so welcoming and caring but the items themselves have left a lot to be desired... Their plain and orange croissants were not bad but I was not amazed at all. It felt like they were both missing something - like it just wasn't buttery or flaky enough and the orange flavoring tasted a little strange. I also was tempted by their olive fougasse & challah breads - both were a little too hard and I want to say stale but they definitely were made that morning. I really want to love this space because the decor is so fun and inviting and tongue-in-cheek and it's a nice space to sit and relax right near Market St. I would be willing to try again - maybe I just keep getting items that are not their best items. read more

Had a co-worker drop off some delicious pastries for us at work. I grabbed the blueberry scone, she ordered some savory items as well. The blueberry scone was delicious! Not too sweet, and the tang from the blueberries (fresh) was a great contrast to the buttery scone. I love blueberry scones, and they're my go-to order at bakeries. I definitely give it a 10/10. Other pastries are pretty good, too, but less memorable maybe only because I haven't had them in a while. Ham & cheese croissant and almond croissant are good. They are cute, but hard to relax when they're literally running circles around your feet. I recommend eating indoors or taking to-go. As you see below, the owner has contacted me about their efforts to discourage the mice from playing in the patio. I vote for a couple cafe cats. They'll have a ball. They are pumping out cookies, croissants, high end cakes, muffins, scones, and crazy good looking sandwiches. And some things I missed too for sure. I've had the cookies and some croissants. All were divine. The ambiance is really neat with a nice courtyard in the back for seating. There are quite a bit of people who come to sit down and do work and hangout. They have pretty standard but tasty bakery desserts like custard, croissants, cookies, and coffee although there's a lot less variety after lunch hours.
