Let me start by saying I really want to like Haymakers for breakfast. It is a good location at 4 corners in Peoria and I have now visited there a couple of times. But once again this morning was extremely disappointing. I ordered chicken fried steak, gravy, biscuit, scrambled eggs and fried potatoes and the only thing worth eating was the eggs. The steak was the thinnest piece of (meat?) I have ever seen and look at the picture where the breading doesn't even stay on the meat (clearly a frozen piece of something). The gravy had clumps of what looked like flour and was tasteless. The biscuit was as hard as a hockey puck and the "fried potatoes" were clearly fried right out of a frozen bag. Come on Haymakers you can try a little harder to give customers something they can stomach. To top it all off I asked the server if there was a manger and she said we don't have one until 11 AM (clearly inmates running the prison with no quality control). The positive: 1. They have gluten free options 2. Our server was really good, nice, efficient. 3. The salad was pretty good 4. Everything in the order was how we asked for it. The negative: 1. The food wasn't great. Got the French dip and it was bland, and the beef was very fatty with a lot of grizzle. 2. My daughter got the ribs and the bread that came with it was a stale, untoasted piece of white bread straight out of a cheap package. Generic and disappointing. 3. The "dog friendly patio" rules are clearly just for funsies. A guy and two women showed up with two dogs, one was actually sitting with him ON the bench seat, the other one was eating from, and licking the table. At one point they started fighting over food. The female server came out several times and watched all of this and said nothing. Absolutely unsanitary and disgusting. I'll never come back here after seeing this. All of the seat cushions on the patio have questionable stains that make me wonder what dog's rear end was leaking on it. Moved to a hard chair wipable after witnessing this. 4. Used the bathroom and in the second toilet, the seat practically fell off the toilet. It's barely hanging on by a thread. Hopefully they fix that before someone breaks their neck. 5. Parking is good, they do share a parking lot in a shopping center. The taste, amount, and price was all in line with quality service. I will come back here again when I am in the area. I was nearby the area so decided to stop here for breakfast and Sunday morning. The weight wasn't too long and we got seated right away. The menu is expensive during breakfast lunch and dinner. I got chicken and waffles which were pretty much candy and waffles. We also got the cheesecake, strawberry pancake. Overall, everything was just OK. A little bit pricey for the quality of food. Random Monday stop for breakfast. Checked out other places on here and decided to give Haymaker a try. So glad we did. My mom and I were beyond happy at the genuinely happy human who helped us from the moment we came in. Her name is Karen. Besides having some great food (biscuits and gravy and chicken & waffles (my mom and I shared a couple plates) Karen stood out. She was very engaging, and her smile felt like she wasn't forcing it. The burger was cooked to medium well which is just too well done, it also lacked seasoning. The fries were hot but also bland. The fried chicken samdwhich was so thin and fried so long it was dry and bland despite the sauce dip. The coleslaw lacked any seasoning. I'll likely never go back. read more

I'm regularly at this place. The have an insane deal on a HUGE biscuit and gravy and it's absolutely deliciously. You can absolutely tell the biscuit and gravy are homemade which is hard to find these days. Also, they have a BLTA (avocado) sandwhich with deep fried tomato & fried meal for a great price during lunch. It's on this fluffy Texas toast and I've never had a deep fried tomato until here which adds a nice texture to the sandwich. The place is always busy so definitely don't come if you're in a rush. My wife and I were treating my son and his family to dinner. Everything was going well and then I received my meal. I think it was normally made they way it was presented but it was not good at all to me. I let the waitress know and she took action right away letting me make another choice and quickly preparing it. I have never returned a plate in 50 years of eating out and the restaurant really went out of their way to help turn my frown upside down and it worked. Thank you Haymaker team.
