We came here for lunch a few days ago and we're so pleasantly surprised. The bar is small but cute with a tv for sports on. The bartender, Shane, treated the whole bar top as one which was so smart as it allowed us to meet the couples to the left and right of us and everyone had fun talking. I had the French dip and it was awesome. They have fruity pebble French toast on the menu which I do want to try next time. Only down side to this place is when it finally gets cooler here they don't have a patio. Will be back on hot days when it's best to stay inside. They have happy hour all afternoon and local beer is $4. Some beer is only $2 should you prefer. I ordered darkest beer they had and it was rich and creamy, I liked their dark beer. My grilled cheese was served with bacon, avocado, and some others, it's not traditional grilled cheese we used to eat as a kid, their adult grilled cheese is quite filling and good. Decided to give this place a try since it's right down the street where we live and reviews seemed convincing. What's cool is that you can call them ahead of time and join a wait list if they're busy. I ordered the Huevos Rancheros and specifically asked for scrambled eggs instead of sunny side up. Can't have undercooked egg yolk because I'm pregnant. Food came out in about 15-20 mins and as I immediately cut into my eggs, they were runny. I let the waitress know as soon as I saw and she was happy to fix my order. It sucked that I had to sit and watch my husband finish his plate while I waited for my plate to come. The reason to my 3 star review is not the quality or taste of the food, it's mostly on service. She seemed so rushed and as soon as my new plate came out she served us with the check. At that point, I felt rushed to finish my food and I didn't even get to enjoy it all since more than half of my plate was boxed up. Food is great, I just had a bad experience with our service. I really wish I was able to take this business back home with me, after vacation. I've been to the Phoenix area two times in my life. Each time I've made a point to come to this restaurant, and specifically this location. There's something about the Peoria area that I love. Maybe it's the scenery, or people, or my slight obsession with The Haymaker. Its probably just all three. The drinks are amazing. I'm a "Old Fashioned" enthusiast, and this restaurant does not disappoint. There's not much to say about the food. Other than you cannot, yes cannot go wrong. I was so excited this morning to meet a long time friend I haven't been able to see in forever at The Haymaker off Lake Pleasant and Happy Valley in Peoria. It's been forever and couldn't wait to catch up. We were looking for somewhere close enough for the both of us and couldn't wait to try someplace new. Parking can get a bit tight in front of the building, especially if the McDonald's drive thru is busy, but there's tons more spaces across the way with no real extra walk. The Haymaker has multiple locations so you are not limited to this one. When we arrived we were greeted quickly and were seated with no wait. The location isn't small, but it's not super huge either. Even though it was a Wednesday around 930am they were filling up fast. It's an obvious favorite for many. I could not wait to get one of their Eggs Benedict options because I'd heard from so many how tasty they all were. If you know me I'm on a bit of a Benny kick right now ha ha. Our waitress took our drink order and gave us a little time to decide. My friend went with the waffles and country potatoes with a side of fruit. After a hard decision between their Classic Eggs Benedict or the Left Coast Benedict I went with the Left Coast Because the grilled Turkey sounded different and it also was topped with grilled tomato, sliced avocado as well as the poached eggs of course. You can choose between one egg if you can't eat two of the Benedict. I ordered the two with hash browns and a side of fruit. Why? Because I live to be happy and full ha ha. I also know the owner of The Haymaker owns NW Coffee in Peoria as well which is awesome so I ordered the Cocomo Joe iced coffee. I 100% knew it would be well worth it. Our food came out very fast and all looked wonderful. The fruit was fresh, my eggs Benny were cooked perfectly and not bland or soggy like some. The tomato was grilled to perfection and my avocado perfectly ripe. The hollandaise sauce was flavorful. The hash browns perfectly browned as well. My friends plate was just as great. We both ended up clearing our plates. My coffee was so delicious. The whip on top sealed the deal. We were able to sit and chat a bit longer while We finished our drinks without feeling rushed. I almost drove over to NW Coffee when we were done for more, but unfortunately I ran out of time. Our server was friendly and attentive. The only things I would say was my food could have been a little warmer (it got cold within about 5 minutes) & I wish there was some music playing. Price wise was great as well. The outside can be deceiving. Once you find the door to go in, the place is big and the smell of smoked meat and atmosphere is great. Our waitress was very attentive and took good care of us. All of the food looked and tasted fantastic. The brisket fell apart easily and was mouthwatering. Everyone loved the macaroni and cheese, the beans. My wife and I loved the onion rings appetizer. It had great flavor and was crunchy. My son ate ribs and the meat had its body, but fell off the bone easily. The BBQ sauce was sweet and spicy. The waitress told us it was house made. To bad we couldn't buy a bottle of it. My wife ordered the southwest chicken salad. She said it was fantastic. Hopefully we can go here again while we are out here on vacation. read more

After consulting a few of the locals here on Peoria, we were told by several people to try breakfast here. We were a bit concerned though as it was a Sunday morning and we expected a crowd. Luckily we got here right before the NFL crowd shows up. We were able to pick from seating at the bar or in the dining area. We chose the bar and we immediately greeted by Cori. She showed us a few things in the menu and took our drinks orders. We got a couple of the Bacon Bloody's and some coffee. We then were served our breakfast. I got the Huevos Benedictos (AWESOME!) and my wife got the Salmon BLT (AWESOME!). We really enjoyed our time with Cori, enjoyed the food and the other patrons at the bar. First time to Haymaker as it is close to home. In the mood for a lively place for breakfast and burgers. We arrived at the peak of lunch on a Saturday and was hoping to grab a quick bite. Unfortunately we were sat by the bar at a side table with no dedicated server. Good selection of food but service and execution was poor. I believe our order got lost and conveniently found after asking for an update upon waiting 20-25 mins. A bit sad when you notice when folks who are seated same time as you have been and gone, and still no food or drink refill. Places like this only survive temporarily. Our family of 4 went in right around 510 tonight and ended up having to walk out. We waited about 10 minutes and no one came to take our order. I first made eye contact with a female server who was socializing in the bar area. She didn't care. A few minutes later she came over and took the orders from a table that came in after us. She walked by us a couple more times before we were able to get her attention. We asked who our server was and she went behind the bar again and never heard from her again. We then told the hostess that no one had come by yet. She disappeared and we didn't see her again. We had communicated to the hostess that we were in a hurry (shouldn't have been an issue to get out by 6 with how empty they were when we arrived). However, after we sat there for 10 minutes and couldn't even put in our drink order, all while four other tables sat down and started putting in their orders, we just had to walk out and unfortunately settled with fast food. Food: he had the bacon burrito and also strawberry cheesecake pancakes. He raved about those pancakes, which were enjoyed a few hours after we picked up the order so I guess they held up well! Burrito was easy to eat in the car. I had the classic Benedict on gluten free toast. This was a bit messy even though they put the sauce on the side. Yelp asked me to do a review of my restaurant experiences in my area. First I'll do Haymaker. I've NEVER had a bad meal at Haymaker. If I didn't have a medical issue I would go there more often. It reminds me of Coco's in Scottsdale in The 70s and 80s. Their onion rings are area awesome. Same as the Blueberry pancakes, French dip. Any time I've had an issue they're quick to make it right. It's clean and management knows how to run the business. I know there's a Beef shortage going on but when it clears up it would be nice if they had steak on the menu. I want to mention that I've never given a bad restaurant review. This will be the first. This evening I decided to try Haymakers on Lake Pleasant for the first time. I ordered the Brisket Platter. Over half the brisket was actually fat, the macaroni and cheese was absent the cheese/flavor & I made a sad mistake in thinking the cowboy beans meant baked beans with the sweet taste. I was so very disappointed with the whole order. I probably don't have to say it but I won't be going here again. I wasted my money and didn't get to eat dinner. Food is always great at Haymaker, no complaints there. That's why I'm giving 2 stars. Usually service is decent. And perhaps I'm not understanding the role of a server. My thought would be that their main responsibility is to SERVE the food, keep drinks refilled, SERVE the customer etc. I would have gladly dined at home if I wanted to serve myself. The servers multiple times would pass myself or one of my family members drinks or plates to pass onto the person sitting next to me... just walk around and serve the item. It's literally in the name of the job description. Additionally, drinks were ignored and left unfilled for the duration of our visit. After the server asking us, the customers, to pass out all the drinks and majority of the plates, we asked one of the servers to please SERVE the hot plate herself instead of myself or my elderly family members sitting next to me passing it to the recipient. She scoffed and slammed the plate on the table. We used to come here often, and would rave about the great service, friendly staff, and how they really take care of those who have served (great military discount). The customer service has rapidly declined, even the presentation of the staff is... dirty, not put together... poor reflection on the establishment. For lack of a better term, this location of the Haymaker is trashy. I guess they're trying to align the staff to the overall ambience of the restaurant. Horrible place to eat. Stopped in after a beer fest and the took our order - two of us ordered a beer. We all ordered appetizers and food. Later on we asked where our beers were and the said they could not server us but later said they could server one of us (white customer) so after taking are full order including 2 drinks they indicated the drinks would not be servers. I will not EVER go back to this place as the take your order and have you spend money but decide on the color of your skin if you can drink.
