I have been looking forward to trying this place, based off of the reviews. But, I must say that I wasn't impressed with the chicken fried steak, at all. Although the breading, gravy and mashed potatoes tasted good. There was a lot of breading on the chicken fried steak and little meat. And even though they say the meat is wagu, it was tough and chewy. Although I normally don't complain at restaurants, I brought it to the attention of the manager, who promptly got me a replacement. But, it was just like the first. I will give them a try again the next time I'm in Dallas and order something different. I almost got the catfish, shrimp, eutofee, instead. My friends and I had dinner here recently. The vibe was a country, rustic type of setting -- very cute. I got the blackened catfish with jambalaya sausage, gulf shrimp , and cilantro rice. My food was good. I think the blackened catfish could have have a tad more seasoning but the cilantro rice was good. The jambalaya sausage was good but it came out cold, which I thought was odd. Everything else was hot/ warm. You get 3 shrimp with this and they were good as well, and a decent size. The service was average, and there's definitely an opportunity for improvement here. It took a bit for our server to even take our drink orders and come back and give us our checks at the end. Overall, I would try Haywire again. read more

Had lunch here today. A great spot for casual or business meals. Easy free validated parking at the McKinney Garage (also says We work) right near the Haywire. Good location, sitting and lighting inside. Menu is very Texas/American, great choices for appetizers (we had the Pork Belly) and lunch options that fit just about any appetite and diet. Opted for the Ribeye, Medium Rare and Mac and Cheese. Steak came out with a small pat of butter on top. Cut into it (13oz) and was pleasantly surprised at how on point it was for a Medium Rare. Crust was done perfectly, seasoned more than normally but the big pepper grinds were great. Meat itself had a great taste...their suppliers are good. Mac and Cheese was extra cheesy, had bacon or ham chunks and bread crumbs on top. Overall good service, a fair value for lunch and well executed. Would highly recommend in an area with a lot of options. read more

We were staying two blocks away at the Ritz and looked for walkable restaurants for an early dinner. I jumped on Yelp found this place and did a reservation on Open Table. After looking over the menu we decided to go 30mins early to take advantage of happy hour. After a 5min walk we arrive and are seated asap. We're the only ones on the patio and out server Joshua comes over promptly. We ordered the black eye pea hummus, friend okra and frozen margaritas off the happy hour menu. The okra is perfect (chipotle Mayo is the perfect heat), the hummus is good but the chips are a little thick. The frozen margaritas are just enough. Not too sweet but not overly sour. Joshua was attentive without being overbearing and promptly checked on us. I ordered a 13oz rib eye with Brussel sprouts and my friend orders the prime rib with mashed potatoes. Our food came out quickly. My steak was DONE Done! I had asked for medium well. The manager Miguel came, apologized and quickly corrected the mistake. The next steak came out with a fresh side and was good. I appreciated the effort that was made to get the steak out while my friend was still eating. Solid 4. The ambience is great with seating both inside and outside. We sat inside because it was one of those very hot days in Dallas. Loved the decoration inside but it was loud. Staff very friendly! My husband ordered the old fashioned. Haywire claims they have the have the best old fashioned in Texas. It was really good but not sure if they can claim that :-). For food we ordered the barbacoa grilled cheese, chicken B.E.L.T and the kids breakfast. The barbacoa grilled cheese was the winner here. The chicken belt but a bit disappointing; just a bunch of flavor that not sure all made sense. The fries that came with were great. The kids breakfast was huge!!! The eggs and biscuit were a success. So I was told about this restaurant for some time and finally decided to go in for a brunch with friends. The location is nestled on the street where my best suggestion for parking would be to valet! The decor and ambiance was very chic with a rustic Texan feel. From the western inspired attire of the servers and staff, and the slight appeal of the dining area. The service was perfect; timely, our server was very knowledgeable and helpful for our first time which was great. We started off with a mimosa flight and an amazing crab dip, along with wonderfully fried oysters. From there, me and a friend felt we were both conflicted on either the pecan pancakes or the Cadillac brunch burger; so we ordered both and split them! I'm glad we did...the burger was truly delectable, with the egg perfectly fried on top, and the bacon just as tasty. The pancakes were delicious, how the peach compote blended with the syrup. I have been wanting to try this spot for sometime. I was SO disappointed in the food/experience overall. They only allow you to get a thigh/wing for chicken and waffles. Everyone doesn't like thighs. I was willing to pay extra for wing or breast and I was told no. I ordered bacon and it came half cooked and it was so unusually thick. So thick and uncooked. I asked for my eggs and chicken on the side and they piled it all on top so the grease and cheese from the chicken and eggs soaked into the waffle. My friend didn't care for the shrimp and grits. Oh and they forgot my syrup. The waiter so so busy with sassy comebacks he didn't get anything on my order correct. The fried green tomatoes were great and the ambiance was very nice. I absolutely love the food and the environment. The waitress (Jen Chen)was warm, courteous, professional and just overall great. I had such a great experience and I recommend this restaurant for all occasions. Almost forgot, the one thing I did not appreciate is the parking fee. It's great that they will validate your ticket. However, after getting my ticket validated just before leaving, I forgot it, leaving it on the table. As soon as I realized I left it, I immediately went back to retrieve it and they had already cleaned the table and reset it. I asked the our waitress and manager (Jason). I was told that the ticket had been thrown away. The manager then told me to tell them his name and let them know what happened and they would let me through. The only problem was THERE WAS NO ONE WORKING THE PARKING GARAGE, NORE COULD I CALL A PARKING ATTENDANT TO HELP AND I HAD RO PAY $20. Thus, for the manager's service and for lying, I give him ZERO (0) stars. I had been to haywire before and really enjoyed my experience. Because of that I recommend a group of my friends to go for my second time and all I can say is YIKES the experience declined exponentially. We had a reservation at 12:45pm on a Sunday and were not seated until 1:35pm, and the reasoning we were given was that our table was still occupied. I can understand 5-10min of a lingering table but not moving people from the table when we had BOOKED the reservation in advance is ridiculous and falls on haywire. Onto the food... be aware the prices have gone up by $3-5 on every menu item. Which is fine until you see what they're serving...I ordered the standard breakfast and the meal I was served was a joke as you can see by the picture. I was ASTOUNDED that they would charge $18 for this... granted they forget my bacon, my biscuit, and a little TLC. Disaster. How does the kitchen and the waiter both not notice half the breakfast is missing?? Of course there was no compensation for this mistake instead i politely told the waiter and finished my entire meal by the time my biscuit and bacon finally arrived - nothing like eating your $18 breakfast in 2 courses. Oh also all of our food was stone cold by the time it finally arrived at our table. On top of that the haywire website says they will validate garage parking and when I went to ask they said they do not. I then proceeded to show their own website that stated that they did validate and I was told they would still not validate it. After a trip to the Perot Museum, we were looking for a brunch spot and this place came up as being close. The interior decor definitely gives off this Western vibe and the wait staff was wearing cowboy hats. They have an outdoor patio that is covered and also includes a seating booth within a trailer, which was cool. I would have preferred they had a few more options on the brunch menu in the sweet category such as different waffles and pancakes as I'm a huge brunch lover. Had the lump crab dip to start and the shrimp tostadas to split. Enjoyed with the Clio 2015 bottle and finished with the pecan pie. That's the best pecan pie I have ever eaten!! Came here a few weeks ago on a work trip and it definitely left an impression. My coworker said, "we're going to Texas, so we need to get steak!". I did my research online and found Haywire which seemed like a good merging of Steakhouse and American. Our group of 6 were seated on the edge of the restaurant in a camper! Felt like VIPs sitting in there and I would say it was a very cool and unique experience, albeit a little uncomfortable in the corner since there was a bit of a gap from the seat to the table. For appetizers we got the Crab Dip and Fried Oysters, which I would recommend. The bacon sampler was just ok (chewy pieces of 3 different flavors of bacon. Entrees were split. On the other end of the table, everyone ordered seafood and raved about their meal. On my end, my coworker ordered a steak and I will tell you this thing was inedible. He ordered it medium well (that part is his fault) but the chef just lathered it with salt. I thought he was exaggerating, but agreed when I took a bite. I've had plenty of oversalted steak and it just tastes like salty beef (still delicious). This one we had to leave for the pig farmers. My dish was the smoked fried chicken. It was ok - didn't really taste like anything - chicken was not moist, but not dry. Odd thing with the steak order as well. It came with two sides and the order came out with fries and....... fries. We had a laugh about that and the server quickly remedied the issue. For dessert, we had Pecan Pie and Bread Pudding which was liked by the table. Homestead Cake (carrot cake) was good, but came in an honorable third. Overall, the service was great but the food had some hits and some misses. Expectations were high because of the reviews and pricing, but unfortunately reality did not match. read more

I went there with a group for a friends birthday, and as soon as we walked in we were greeted by a very demure host named Michael who sat us in an adorable little trailer called a Shasta, and shortly afterwards our server, Carlos who was incredibly considerate and mindful came to get our drinks and apps. He also had a very full section and was on top of everything the entire time. I ordered the chicken fried chicken, and everything was cooked to perfection. We had a party of 14 for a birthday dinner and unfortunately Haywire did not deliver. Our server was friendly, but he seemed a bit overwhelmed with the large party and when we were told we could not separate our checks it really messed up the night. I will say the food was good overall, with an exception being the meatloaf that we had to send back because it was severely over cooked and I'm surprised the chef deemed it presentable to send out. However, the shrimp and grits was the crowd fave. We had to ask several times for the same things, 35 minutes had passed before we received the birthday cake from the back, and some attendees cards were charged incorrectly. Once again, I think our server was super nice, but he couldn't handle the table and either needed help or a replacement server. Haywire was a favorite restaurant of mine with a particular dish called "The low & slow chicken" plate. Also a red fish plate. It was changed to a completely different dish but same name was kept. The choices are literally terrible now. The Frisco location literally had 4 plate returns from different parties while we were there. All dissatisfied with their dish.
