This was our first time here, it was recommended by my daughter. No reservations needed, taken to our seat right away. It took a long time for a server to come to our table. The bartenders take care of the tables surrounding the bar, so once she arrived, she finally took our order. I ordered TX Whiskey BBQ Ribs, Texas Chicken Cobb Salad, Green Chile White Cheddar Grits and seasoned fries. I was the DD for the night and ordered a lemonade. I'm thankful our food was soooo good cause our service was not. We never received our fries, once the bar got busy, no one came to refill our drinks or even ask if we needed anything. I recently checked out this place for the first time with my family and they did not disappoint! I've been to Haywire a couple of times for dinner and once for lunch. Each dinner experience was decent. The food wasn't that great, but it also wasn't bad by any means. Nothing to write home about either way. My most recent experience at Haywire was for lunch on a Sunday. My friend and I shared the fried green tomatoes as an appetizer, and they were delicious. But our experience went somewhat downhill from there. My friend ordered the grilled cheese sandwich, which looked amazing on the menu, but he was disappointed. He said he could barely taste the cheese. I ordered the avocado toast, which also looked amazing on the menu. It was average. Our drink orders were off during our lunch visit. My friend's diet coke was completely flat, and he had to order a new one. I ordered an unsweetened iced tea, and it looked and tasted more like water than tea. I was surprised our waiter didn't notice how watery/light the tea looked when he brought it to me. All in all, a pretty mediocre place, in my opinion. I was hankering for some oysters and Haywire came up as a nearby option so I decided to place a pick up order since we don't live in town anymore and I do miss the foodie options! Although I tend to prefer raw oysters these cornmeal fried oysters with micro greens and a green tomato relish was an interesting spin on it. I must admit I'm a sucker for "lump-crab-anything" and I was not disappointed with this luscious dip, fresh and warm pita points, it had big slices of mushroom and some spinach and I munched on that for three days as a fancy snack! (Pro tip- load some on pita and air fry for 2-3 mins). The onion rings were probably the biggest I've ever had and the spicy ketchup was my preference out of the two sauce options. This place definitely reminds you that you're in Texas too! Service was good we started with the elk tacos (they are amazing) the onion rings were really good too. I had the catfish and shrimp over rice and jambalaya. It's slightly tacky with the wait staff being forced to wear full cowboy gear and hats, but the food is upscale enough that it makes up for it. The elk tacos were amazing! The waiter we had was really rude and was annoyed that we had questions. Simple things like asking to make a margarita spicy or sub gin for vodka in a drink were said to be non-doable which was really strange. The service knocked down my rating from what otherwise would be four stars. The demographic is interesting too. This is my new favorite steakhouse!! I was stuck on SilverFox for the longest but this filet had an amazing char and season that was no comparison!!! They chips and queso had a god flavor. My boss and I were in town for work. We agreed to go somewhere new for dinner and decided that Haywire looked like a winner. Our office is in Arlington, but we'll travel for good food! Let's just start with, we were not disappointed at all. Haywire is in a very trendy part of downtown. Like every where in the city, you have to use one of the many public parking lots. The restaurant was pretty busy for a Tuesday night, but like most places in Texas, it's a very large restaurant, so there's plenty of seating. We were seated immediately upon walking in. Our server was also pretty good. He had a great personality, gave us great suggestions. I even listened to him on one. He checked on us, just enough to make sure that we didn't want for anything. We ordered the Texas ceviche as an appetizer. It was a ceviche with fish and shrimp. We both agreed, we could order that over and over. It was really good and fresh. I don't know what's In the sauce that they added with the ceviche, but whatever it was, worked perfectly! I ordered a grilled pork chop that came with brussel sprouts. And my boss ordered the blackened catfish and macaroni and cheese. I can't explain how good my pork chop was! Nor can I explain thoroughly how huge it was! It was so big that I just knew it was going to be dry and rubbery, I was absolutely wrong! My boss tasted a piece of my pork chop and instantly said he should have ordered one. The pork chop is sitting in some type of au jous that enhances it perfectly. I wasn't crazy about the brussel sprouts or the macaroni but it didn't matter because the pork chop was so good. I typically don't take food to go, but the pork chop came with me! If you go, get the pork chop but just know that it's going to be as big as your head! LOL read more

We started with the three elk tacos that had great balance between the crunchy corn tortillas, seasoned ground meat and crema. I ordered their Haywire Old Fashioned which has a mix of three whiskeys and was smooth, strong and not watered down. For entrees we had the chicken fried chicken with jalapeño sausage gravy, crispy Brussels sprouts and white havarti mac n cheese. If you're a foodie or a mac n cheese snob, you will be rolling your eyes in the back of your head. BBQ whiskey ribs, mac n cheese with the best slap ur momma buttered cornbread muffins you have ever had in your life! Wrapped up with whiskey bread pudding that'll cause you to fail a breathalyzer. We were able to secure a reservation to dine inside the Shasta and we loved it! It can accommodate up to 10 people and it is so cozy and perfect that I suggest you call to reserve it for your a really cool dining experience. We were waited on by the lovely Crymson (dead ringer for Missandei on Game of Thrones). She was so amazing, had the most beautiful smile and had some great recommendations. We sipped the French 75, cadillac margarita as well as the featured wine of the evening, a Raymond Reserve Select Cab that was one of the lightest cabs I have ever had. The drinks were on point! For starters we had the fried green tomatoes and burrata salad and both were delish, but the burrata salad was my favorite. Our mains consisted of the chicken fried steak, brussel sprouts and a seafood special that were all so filling and of course delicious. We ended with the pecan pie and the homestead cake. My waistline and wallet will tell you that I love it here. With a slew of recent guests for the holidays, I've found myself here three times in just two weeks, and I've loved it every time. The must-have is the lump crab dip. There's melted cheese, lump crab, spinach and mushrooms all mixed up in a small cast iron tray, topped with buttered breadcrumbs for crunch, served alongside the right amount of warm pita triangles for dipping. It's not too heavy or salty, it's just simply perfection. I do believe it is one of the best bites you can have in Dallas. I've also tried the onion rings here, which look as large as doughnuts and are stacked high on a metal pole for the table. The onion rings have a thick crunchy batter, and somehow the onions are embedded into the batter so that they don't fully slide out when you bite into them (you know what I'm talking about with those slippery, wily onions), so it's definitely a fun shared bite for the table. I've had the fried chicken for both brunch (where it's served with a giant cheddar waffle), and for dinner. I do prefer the dinner version more, because the waffle is on the denser side and doesn't really contribute much to the dish. The chicken I received at brunch (leg and thigh) was also saltier, which may have been just an issue with that batch. At dinner, you receive a breast, thigh and leg, and the chicken had more balanced seasoning. The chicken comes out piping hot, the crust so crunchy (similar batter to the onion rings), and it comes with a lovely portion of coleslaw and cornbread. The cornbread is DELICIOUS. Lightly sweetened, cornmeal crunch, but so delicate and moist at the same time. I took the breast to let my friend have the dark meat (gotta take one for the team), and was happily surprised to find it quite nice and moist. It really is the perfect plate for dinner! My other recommend would be the cornmeal fried catfish, which I've had twice now. The filet is incredibly thick and large (enough to share). It was been perfectly cooked both times, with the fish beautifully juicy. The batter is relatively thin but adds just the right amount of crunch and texture. It is served atop a generous serving of crunchy fries and coleslaw (which I substituted for asparagus on the latter dinner, and they were happy to accommodate the request). My partner has had the local lamb burger on back to back occasions and raved about it both times. The burger is cooked to your desired temperature, served atop a pretzel bun, and features a labneh sauce and other accoutrements. The lamb isn't too gamey, and every bite seemed to make his eyes roll back with joy in a way that I've never been able to achieve. Haha. I've also finally tried their much-lauded pecan pie, with a cinnamon roll crust, served with a delicious vanilla bean ice cream and bourbon(?) caramel sauce. I don't really like pecan pie usually because I tend to find their gooey filling too sweet. Haywire's version is actually not too sweet, and I want to say the center tastes a little bit like banana, which probably isn't the flavor note they'd lead with, but I actually enjoyed it because it made the pie feel lighter. The pecans on the top layer are giant and so crunchy and delicious. Definitely large enough to share with 2-3 people, especially after a table full of fried food :) . There's just really nothing to fault Haywire about on any of my visits. The staff is amazing - incredibly friendly and attentive. The parking is so easy with the attached parking garage + free validation. The space is super Texas chic, open and spacious. Highly recommend - will come back again and again! read more

My server Mason was awesome! I lacked for nothing because of his excellent customer service. The pork belly burnt ends were very tender and flavorful. They truly believe that everything is bigger in Texas because the Texas biscuits and gravy is large. It's the biggest biscuit I've ever seen. The bacon was thick as well. I really enjoyed the biscuit and gravy with bacon and scrambled eggs. Everything tasted great. I took half of everything back to my Airbnb for my dinner.
