Saw some good reviews about this place so I decided to give them a try. Its in a little bit of a rough neighborhood about a mile north of the Garden District. Kinda dark at night - they need some street lights around there ! I ordered the Superdome which was a great piece of fish adorned with lobster cream sauce, corn, mashed p, and some onion rings to boot. What a great entree...and the prices were incredibly reasonable. I didnt see any kind of dine in area but there were picnic tables outside. Dont know if thats always the case or just a COVID thing. In any case getting my dish in a to-go box really did it an injustice. The presentation would have been gorgeous if it were properly plated. But then maybe it would cost more too =) Seemed like nice people running the place and the food is a massive bargain compared to similar dishes served in the touristy areas. Give it a try. read more

If you want delicious food this is the place! No frill, counter or picnic table seating but delicious, real food. The fried chicken was the moistest I've ever had, BBQ shrimp over French fries delicious and just the right spice. Blackened fish and grits so yummy!!! We ate here but also a great place to order for take home. Note- if you want to eat here you can BYOB. read more

Stay the hell away from corporate restaurants in NOLA. Get out in the neighborhood and go to Heard Dat. You can taste the love in Jeff's food. He takes the time to finish the roux. The spices are right on. I normally have the super dome but had the crawfish Etouffe this time. It was incredible. Save room for the bread pudding. The sauce is so sweet and tasty. Got some food delivered from this place via Postmates for a picnic lunch. Was it cheap? Not exactly. Was it good? Heck yeah! Most of the entrées here range from $14-20. I ordered the red beans dish with blackened fish, as well as an extra side of potato salad and some bread pudding. I ate off my order twice, but if I hadn't added the desert and extra side I probably could have finished it in one go. I'm glad that they offer blackened as an option for the fish. The red beans and rice were solid; no salt or hot sauce needed. The bread pudding was good, very dense and moist, yet retain its shape perfectly. The surprisingly star? The potato salad. Unexpectedly savory and spicy, I could've eaten a whole bowl of just that potato salad. Other things to note: at the time of writing this review, the restaurant does not offer indoor dining. They do have some outdoor tables, but they're less than ideal because.they don't have much reliable shade. Also, judging by the bars on the windows and doors of nearby businesses, the neighborhood that the restaurant is in might be a bit sketchy. But that's what delivery is for so give them a shot! read more

While the restaurant is more of a take out business, they do have a counter inside and picnic tables outside on the sidewalk. We ate at the counter and had a delicious meal. My dining companion and I ordered two different meals so we could taste each other's. We tried blackened fish and blackened chicken. Both were delicious. Only disappointment was my cornbread was dry. Her beans were unlike anything I've ever tasted.....sorry I didn't order a side to add to my meal! The only thing that was a bit disappointing was our meals were ready at different times, even though we ordered together. It is much nicer to eat "together" than one after the other. But, with that said, we'd eat there again the next time we are in New Orleans. read more

Pros Batter was seasoned Fish fried to perfection Friendly staff and patient Lined containers with foil to prevent leakage Reasonable prices Good sized portions Food served hot and fresh (Don't rush the Cook!!) Cons No inside sitting area No local seafood Walk up orders take a little long (order ahead!!!) The fried food was properly fried and was not overly greasy. The batter was flavorful and crispy. The shrimp was small but good. I could eat a basket of them. The fish was decent but I rather eat catfish instead of the fish that was served. The fish is super thin and it dried out closer the ends. At those areas, you are just eating batter. The chicken batter had a great crunch and it was delicious. I could not eat any portion of the chicken. I'm skeptical of any chicken without a bone, so my review does reflect the quality of the chicken thigh. read more

We ate at so many different restaurants this trip and this was in the top 3 for sure! The service was friendly and welcoming! They recommended the gumbo combo and I was blown away. we ordered the superdome (blackened fish with onion rings and potato mash) and bourbon street love (fried chicken with mac and cheese). both were delicious and incredibly filling even though they don't look that massive in the takeout boxes. the fried chicken was just so flavorful and the fish was perfectly cooked, and they gave a large portion of protein as well for both dishes. definitely recommend and would try again next time we're in nola. read more

This was our first time eating here and we will certainly be back again soon! The crawdat cornbread was sweet and the sauce on top was very good. The sauce on the Heard Dat Pasta was creamy and flavored well. My only complaint was the bread pudding was rather hard, even after we stuck it in the microwave! I'm a bit disappointed because I've been eyeballing this restaurant and looking at the reviews for a minute. I'm not sure if I caught them on a bad day or what not but I ordered "Dat Plate" and "Mardi Gras Mambo". The fried chicken on the dat plate was a bit over cooked. The Mac and cheese on both plates tasted like noodles with milk and a hint of shredded cheese. And the potato salad lacked flavor as well. 10/10 BEST FOOD we've had in NOLA this weekend. Get the bourbon street love and you won't regret it. The only thing we regret is not getting two!! I was extremely satisfied with the experience I had with Heard That Kitchen. It was on the outskirts of Downtown which gave you a different view of the downtown area. We had to order inside the building then eat in the patio section. We started off with Dat Fries which came with a zesty dance and candied bacon. The fries were cooked crispy that blended well with the toppings. I got the Bourbon Street Love with came with Mac and cheese topped with a fried chicken breast as cream sauce. The entree was immaculate. The cream sauce was the sauce that made every bite pleasurable. My friends got the Dat Plate. One had fried chicken and the other had fried catfish. They were both pleased with the entree. I recommend that you try this restaurant if you have the time. read more

Very expensive. No menus. The paper she handed me was hard to read. . I paid for my lunch $26.40. I had a piece of fish, shrimp and fries. Was good but not great for the price. No place to eat. Bourbon Street Love: Southern style fried chicken served over macaroni and cheese, topped with shredded cheddar cheese, signature Crawdat cream sauce, green onions and served with a side of potato salad. And an order of bread pudding. 4.5 stars, only because the potato salad was such a small portion. But the flavor of everything, beyond good! This place is a hole in the wall and nothing to write home about visually. However, the food is DELICIOUS! You order your food at a window inside the building which you get rather quickly. There is no seating inside but they have some picnic tables set up outside. We were going to take it to go but decided to eat it there when we took one look at the food. It was not going to make it the ride back to the hotel. Definitely another go to place in New Orleans for great tasting food. read more

Wow!! I'm so glad I tried this place out! I ordered from UberEats and had The Superdome and omgggg it was DELICIOUS!! The lobster cream sauce was amazing yet not overly heavy or dense. It was light and fresh, the flavor profile was incredible! The little bits of corn mixed in really make the sauce and the entire dish pop. This is definitely a hole in the wall, but the food I had was first class! I had the red beans and rice plate- the fish was perfectly seasoned, firm with a light crispy coating; the beans were creamy with just enough kick and the homemade salad dressing on the mixed greens was delicious. We decided to try this little gem of a restaurant in New Orleans after reading the Yelp reviews. It is away from the usual tourist spots but well worth it! The food was delicious. We tried the Bourbon Street Love, The Superdome, and the Red Bean plate, and each dish was absolutely amazing. For dessert we got the bread pudding that was worth every calorie. The seating is outside at picnic tables, which adds to the laid-back vibe of the place. The staff was super friendly and helpful, making us feel right at home. And much to our surprise, the chef and owner Jeff Heards, actually came out to greet us! He was so down-to-earth and personable, it was easy to see why his food is such a hit. Hands down, this was the best meal we've had in New Orleans so far. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for fantastic soul/creole food. Can't wait to go back! read more

This place is super small and ducked off. They have seating outside, but I ordered to go. The staff and service are great. The plate was a bit expensive considering you only get one piece of chicken for $13+. It includes a boneless thigh, and as you can see, this one is little like a chicken tender. It was seasoned really well, I just wish there was more. The sides were okay. read more

I mean a little bit of everything. I knew we wouldn't eat it all, but we ordered a lot anyway. I requested a hurricane, crab cake, red snapper in creole sauce, rice n beans, green beans, gator bytes, and Oysters Saint Martin. My wife and I shared the meal. My hurricane was very tasty and they were not shy on putting alcohol in it. The crab cake was tasty and moist. But it was overshadowed by the other amazing vittles. The red snapper was incredible. It was flaky and had a delicious creole sauce on it. It was my favorite item of the night. The red beans and rice were also delicious. I really liked that. The green beans were also excellent. The gator bites were tasty as was the sauce they were served in. They weren't as plump as others we had on the trip. The oysters were awesome! This was the first time I'd had baked oysters and I really liked them. They had a great flavor. We loved our meal and the service was fast and friendly. Great stuff!

It's definitely become a place we keep coming back to. We usually get the seafood boil with snow crab legs, and this time we went with the medium heat and butter garlic flavor. Everything was really good and full of flavor. My husband and I got the potatoes as our sides, while my daughter got the boiled eggs. We also ordered a side of French fries to share, and let me just say... we ate those so fast that I completely forgot to take a picture! They were good! I also like the whole seafood boil experience here. They offer you a bib and gloves if you want them, which definitely comes in handy when you're getting into those crab legs. The service has been good every time we've visited, and the atmosphere is always lively. One of the coolest things happened after we had finished eating. Someone came around offering little samples for people to try, and they stopped by our table and asked if we wanted to try the soft-shell shrimp. I'm not sure if it's something new on the menu or just something they were serving as a sample, but we said yes -- and I'm so glad we did! That shrimp was delicious! It literally melted in my mouth. I'm usually not a big fan of eating anything with the shell still on, but this was so good that I didn't even mind it. Definitely not what I expected, and it was probably one of my favorite little surprises of the visit. I didn't take a ton of pictures this time, but I'll share the few that I did get. So far, Boil Seafood House has been a winner for us, and since we've enjoyed every visit, We'll be back again for another seafood boil!

This is not your typical five star Resturant and why do I say Five Star because of the meals that are delivered in to go plates. We had several things, Dat Super Dome was delicious ( that is what my son ordered, but I had to taste it). The Blackened Fish was perfect and to pair it with Lobster potatoes was brilliant, I'm not sure what type of sauce it was sitting in but it worked well with the dish. I had stuff Shrimp and I also ordered Stew chicken. The stuff shrimp was perfect, once you took a bite you had to continue to eat and it to was in a delicious sauce and I'm thinking it was some sort of crawfish sauce. I didn't eat the Stew as I was to full but my mother said that it was delicious and for $6 it was well worth it. My daughter had the wings and my son had the BBQ. It all was very delicious. If you are not from New Orleans do not let the location deter you from trying the food. This will be some of the best food you will get without the high price tags that you find in the French Quarter area. Heard Dat Kitchen is a Diamond in the Rough. read more

I recently visited Heard Dat Kitchen and was thoroughly impressed, despite a few minor considerations. The space itself is cozy, with a somewhat small seating area, which definitely speaks to its popularity. We arrived and were told the wait would be around 30 minutes. The staff was fantastic, especially the cashier who had genuinely great energy and made the ordering process a pleasure. Once our food arrived, it was well worth the wait. The flavors were incredible--every element on the plate complemented each other perfectly, creating a truly memorable meal. My only minor critique would be about the Mardi Gras Mambo. The dish itself was fantastic, but I do wish the potato salad had been placed on the side. However, this is a small note on an otherwise great experience. Overall, the great food and energetic staff make this a spot I will definitely be back! read more

If you want authentic soul food look no farther that Heard Dat Kitchen. 3 years ago you wouldn't find anyone going to this area of town because this was one of the most dangerous areas of New Orleans but now things have drastically changed. The food is delicious. I had the Bourbon Street and it was the best fried chicken I have ever eaten, and I love fried chicken. Jeff, the chef and his family are an incredible asset to this neighborhood. Tia, one of the daughters, could be the sweetest servers I have had in any restaurant. She made us feel special and when she brought our food I couldn't believe my mouth. If you want something very authentic, delicious at the same time help out real entrepreneurs, give this place a try. You won't regret it. read more

I have reviewed Heard Dat before about a year ago, have been maybe 6 times and went back again today. Took a friend who had never been before, I like introducing people to Heard Dat. I'm no professional food critic, but this place is nothing less than amazing. When you pair great food with great people (Tia), you just can't say enough. Just couldn't get enough of the Skeesh shrimp on greens. Surf & turf were great, a blackened steak cooked to a perfect medium rare, friend had the Bourbon Street Love, and basically licked the plate clean. I called the restaurant to see if I needed a reservation and asked other questions I saw from their website. The person who answered the phone sounded annoying and start to call me 'Mam' with that kind of tone. I asked to talk to the manager, she had the same unwelcoming voice and tone with her staff. I told her I'll find another restaurant. This is very disappointed on customer service from a good restaurant according to yelp review. Awesome Awesome The Fried Chicken with the bake mac and cheese in a crawfish Cream sauce OMG delicious. Long rainy but fabulous day at JazzFest left us in a hungry mood for more of that great stuff that Nola serves up best. My friend started with an Old Fashioned that she very much enjoyed which I know because she got it refreshed. I ordered the Rougaroux which was too good and refreshing so I nursed it through the meal as this cocktail went down too easy and I'm a lightweight and cheap date so I know my limit. We had an excellent server who recommended we order the BBQ Pork Belly with our 1/2 dozen Louisiana select oysters. I would have loved the char grilled but I'm gluten intolerant and they use flour and I can't go for that. I hope Daryl Hall doesn't sue me. We split the 6 oysters and they were ginormous, tender and sweet. With the side fixings of cocktail sauce and mignonette (also horseradish but I'm not a fan of this condiment as I feel sorry for the horse), we were in oyster heaven and my friend is relatively new to the raw oyster game really enjoyed these delights. Next came the BBQ pork Belly with Honey Crystal hot sauce glaze, andouille and tasso mach choux, creamy mash potatoes, fried okra, pickled red onion. This was one of the best pork bellies I've ever had because it was so meaty, perfectly prepared with just the right small amount of fat keeping it tender and the glaze with the mach choux and creamy mash potatoes was so good we easily could have thrown in the towel and screamed No Mas. We didn't so wait, there is more. We split the Lamb Chops two ways, one a lamb chop with an excellent Chimichurri Sauce and a lamb sausage. I thank the Mary Poppins films for introducing the world the Chimichurri sauce. The lamb chop was excellent while the lamb sausage was good, very lamby and a bit too salty. Rougaroux Flor de Cana white rum, Bayou Spice Rum ,blood orange sour, black cherry syrup, Regan's Orange bitters Louisiana "Select" Raw Oysters With horseradish, cocktail sauce and toasted filé mignonette Half-Dozen BBQ Pork Belly Honey Crystal hot sauce glaze, andouille and tasso mach choux, creamy mash potatoes, fried okra, pickled red onion Lamb Two Ways 2 Lamb loin chops and Lamb sausage grilled and served on a sizzling plate with Chimichurri, asparagus, roasted fingerling potatoes This joint inside is comfortable with the look of an unfinished warehouse but not in a bad way at all. The breakfast was delicious, hearty, and full of flavor. Menas Palace is a casual, Greek-owned diner right in the heart of the French Quarter. While the dining room isn't huge, it's spacious enough to comfortably navigate in my wheelchair, with plenty of turning room between tables. I had no trouble entering or being seated immediately. The waitress handled everything naturally and confidently, making it clear serving wheelchair users wasn't new to her, which always makes for a more relaxed experience. Sure, I'll hit Willie Mae's or grab McHardy's when I need a fried chicken fix, but it's few and far between. High Hat is an exception. It's one of my go-to spots when I'm feeling lazy and craving that Delta-style cooking. Amy and I stopped in on a Tuesday night. I had the fried chicken with red beans and rice. Top Hat is one of the very few places I'll order red beans outside my own kitchen. Amy went with the coleslaw, cornbread, stewed okra, and black-eyed peas. The star of the meal is the fried chicken. My family always used a flour wash, but Top Hat's breading is incredibly thin with just a hint of cornmeal. It isn't what I grew up eating, but man...it is good. Add a little of the table hot sauce and it gets me every single time. The sides are solid across the board. The black-eyed peas are perfect, and the stewed okra tastes like somebody's grandma was in the kitchen. If I could change one thing, I'd make the coleslaw a little crisper, chop it a bit finer, and give it another spoonful of mayo, a splash of malt vinegar, and just a pinch of sugar. But that's my preference, not a complaint. Don't overlook the catfish either. It doesn't play. They can get busy, and the service sometimes moves at the pace of an August stroll through the park. But honestly...that's part of the charm. Good Southern food isn't meant to be rushed, and neither is High Hat. If you're looking for a taste of the Delta without leaving Louisiana, this is a mighty fine place to start.
