A bitchin' old man using his range finder to tell us about the "smokin' Cougar" and how he'd beat the sh^t out of her husband. Another pitch and putt you can hash out late into the night (in terms of golf time). As Kunney said, if it's good enough for Tiger Woods, then it's good enough for me! I can see how Tiger Woods can improve his short game here. If you play at night, you can definitely lose a lot of balls here if you don't land directly on the greens. It's probably one of the darker courses I've played at night. You can definitely see faint shadows of ninjas flying tree to tree if you really pay attention. In any case, I'm proud to say that I only lost one ball. Booyah! Wait, let me clarify...one GOLF ball. The course is a lot more fun at twilight since they don't rent carts after 730pm and the cupholders keep your pants dry since you don't have to carry 6 cans of ice cold beer in your cargo pants. read more

Checked this place out with a couple of friends last night. It was bustling for a Wednesday night in the middle of cold December. Luckily, I brought my thermos filled with hot tea and some snacks. What? It's golf~ (aka picnic time!!) The course is a short par 3 with a couple of par 4's for girls. Our tee time was at 6:25pm and it was already very dark, so we decided to just play the first 9 holes. Unlike Monterey Park, you can "tee off" on the grass, no mats. The night lights are pretty bright, but you might still have trouble finding your ball if you *ahem* shank it into the trees or hit it towards another fairway (not like I did that... no, never) :o\ The sand traps and numerous divots make it a challenge to approach the hole. And the greens have some breaks, but not too difficult. Nice place for beginners and to practice your short game. read more

Golf or a cocktail? Cocktail or golf? I am new to golf and certainly whack at it more than make that great *ping!* sound but I highly recommend for any newbie golfers to come here. What a great way to spend an hour or so getting updated with your friends on what's the newest love, crush, restaurant or trip that they have been busy with. Its relaxing and you still at the same time are concentrating and focusing on trying to get that darn little white ball down the greens. This is what golf to me is all about: relaxation and just having fun! Well this and the cute outfits. For a weekday around 7pm, it was pretty full! But it was so laid back that it was fine. This course is great if you want to play more than 9 holes but don't have the 6+ hours it takes to play a full regulation course. I've been to this place a couple of times, and here's the lowdown on it: GREENS - Earlier this year when it was rainier the greens were manicured like fairways. However, now that golf "season" is coming up, the greens are shaved short like they're supposed to be. Some of the slopes you'll have to play are awfully ridiculous though, so don't beat yourself up too much if you 3-putt one or two holes while you're going through the 18. TEEBOXES - What happened to the white tees? I guess we're all going to have to play from the blues... considering the length of this course, oh well? THE PLAYERS - This place is full of beginners, so get ready to be patient. Or, if you're a beginner yourself, no pressure! Just be careful not to get pelted by a stray ball as you're walking to the green. I had to duck twice today. THE VALUE - Pretty great! On the weekdays, it's $15 to walk all 18, and $11 if you only want 9. On the weekends, the price for 18 goes up to $17, but you can get all of your green fees for $2-4 off if you go to www.savesomegreen.com and book your tee time there. One last thing. Please do not rent golf carts here! This is a par 3 course! The holes are only about 100 yards long! How lazy can people be?! Overall, as long as this place is kept up, I'm a fan. I like this course because they have night golf. There are several holes without lights. It's $13 or 14, I forget but totally reasonable. They have carts but why would you use them on a par 3 course where the most yardage is 150 yards. Most holes are 120 yards so I would skip the cart. Called proshop to schedule a Sunday tee time. When arriving Sunday, we were told our tee time was actually booked on a Saturday. They squeezed us in to play still, however, was charged a $20 missed tee time! I usually book off golfzing and this was the first time I booked through the phone. General manager won't call me back so I can try and get this reversed. Played here 15 times with my friends in the past 9 months, not counting all the buckets of balls I've purchased for the range. Wonderful little course! We've driven by here many times, but because we were in the Long Beach area to visit family later in the day, we decided to try this course. Except for the same three very loud souped up cars that kept driving back and forth on the streets surrounding the course, it was pretty pleasant. I would definitely come back here. Very poorly run golf course, inconsistent operating hours for the driving range, old equipment that breaks down often and a management team that really doesn't give a hoot about their customers time. Recently they had an equipment breakdown which was delaying the availability of range balls, management said be about 20 minutes so several of us waited 20 minutes, nothing. Then they told somebody else it would be more like 45 minutes, after 45 minutes one of the employees would only say "no we're not ready yet" very rude and unfriendly so I left. I hope whoever is in charge of this golf course understands we have other places to go and those employees depend on us, the public, coming there we don't come they don't have a job. read more

I must confess that I have mixed feelings about this course. On one hand, I love it. It is the nicest public, par 3 course I've been to (I've been to quite a few in L.A. County) and it's relatively inexpensive. The course is well-maintained and the grass is pretty good for the most part. On the other hand, they are stricter than most and were quite grouchy. Heartwell is a fun little course to come and play with friends. You don't have to be good at golf, but it certainly can be challenging. Heartwell is where I had my first hole-in-one (all of 74-yards), so it holds a place near and dear to my heart. But I will try to be unbiased in this review. In terms of course condition, it is 3-4 stars. For being a par-3 course, it's pretty nice. My only complaint is the greens are a bit bumpy because of people not fixing their ball marks and the rough around the greens is a bit reminiscent of crabgrass. However, everything is green and you usually don't get unreasonably cruel lies. Heartwell has a layout that still challenges the player even with such short holes. You have to be good at striking wedges to score here. If you aren't you can find yourself in the crabgrass, in the trees, in the numerous bunkers, or in the water. The provides real challenges with real holes that are just a bit shorter than average. It's a great place to practice your short game and wedge striking. I had a tournament at the Arcadia par-3 in the summer, so I came to Heartwell to practice because it was closer. I played a few rounds at Heartwell and noticed sudden improvement in my wedge game. I shot +2 at Arcadia. My next par 3 tournament at Heartwell I shot -1. I've also shot +13 there. I have no complains about their driving range or their food, which is surprisingly good. The pro shop has everything you need, but some employees can be a little bit gruff at times. If you want to have fun and get better at wedges, Heartwell is the place to come whether or not you have tons of golf experience. It provides challenge but is easy enough to start out on and they have a long enough driving range to hit every club in your bag. I recommend playing here. You'll be glad you came! read more

The restaurant in the main building with the club house is a great find and undiscovered treasure. A great place to go for breakfast or lunch during the week or weekend. This place offers plenty of room, you never have to wait for a table and you can look out to the greens while enjoying your food and friends. The menu is basic diner with a twist. Most of the selections have golf-related names like "The Birdie" "A Whole in One" and The Eagle. It is sorta fun in a Gomer Pyle kind of way. I have been there many time over the years and everything is consistently good. I usually always have breakfast since it is one of my favorite meals anytime day or night. They know how to make perfect sunny side up eggs, cook beacon so it is crispy but not bacos and good-old country potatoes and small cup of fruit usually sooth my hunger pans. The also offer a bunch of sandwiches, soups, salads and of course, burgers, fries, onion rings and host of other comfort food specials. The also offer a complete line of ciders and popular import and domestic beers on tap and bottles. And a few other drink/premade cocktail selections when you need to wet-your whistle with a libation or celebrate conquering the 19th hole. The non-descript decor is pleasant, but you'll forget it the moment you walk in. This is just a great neighborhood place that you spread out with the paper and slow down for a minute. The staff is very courteous, friendly and efficient. Always ready to pour more coffee before you even notice you need it. Try the driving range, if you need to get out some frustration or just get little exercise you can. $10 gets you 125 balls so take your clubs/drivers and have some cheap fun. Especially if you need to release some toxins created by your boss, partner, friend or family member and you can work out what your going to say after you work through your emotional issues with the club. You'll feel better. It's a very cheap and productive form of therapy. And knowing this is the course where Tiger Woods (google Tiger for detais) learned to play so you can imagine how your skills might have been honed if you'd started playing when you were 5. Champions are created through diligence and hard work, remember! And when I do take up golf again this is where I'm gonna play. Three and a half stars lately but it is the best executive course in the area. The net on the parking lot side of the driving range is down and the ball picker had been down the last couple times I went (closing the range down), forcing me to play without practice. The course itself is ok. The greens and grass around is in pretty good shape. My only complaint is all the holes are of similar length. You could really get by with just a wedge and a putter. read more

If it would let me I would put zero stars. they have really bad customer service and they don't even offer help or anything. I had a tee time of 7am. sprinklers are on and grass is really wet. They people cutting the grass follow you and run over your golf bad. The people cutting the grass don't even have any courtesy for you golfing. When I informed the front desk about the Gardners cutting the grass behind us and and making all this noise, they just looked at me as if well okay. Do not go here or to the range. My first time was here and I did it with a pair of twins, who were professional players. Using muscle I've never used before, they warned me I may be sore from my first time and I was. I learned all these new positions. An interesting game that involves balls and long shafts and attempting to get a ball into a hole, hopefully on your first try, not as easy as it sounds. BTW the heads come in different sizes. So much whacking was going around, be warned you will get sweaty. So this is why so many men like golf. Okay I'll stop with the sexual innuendo. ;p Seems like a decent place, then again this is coming from a person that was never really interested in golf. Night golf anyone? Thtas right I lived around here all my life and just discovered that they have golf till 10pm. It's a Public 18 hole par 3 course, which is pretty decent looking and there's enough lights for you to play at night. it's not as lit up like a football field but it sure decent enough to play golf. I do however recommend to bring a glow in the dark ball if you can't stay within the fairway. read more

Love golf! This is the only golf course that has it's lights on until closing time, well the one that I know of. The golf course is big and can be packed almost any day. I came here with my boyfriend who is big and caucasian and thinks he can get me at every hole, and I'm little and asian which he thinks I suck the whole way. Apparently, there is one hole that you have to get to and you got to hit it over the lake. I merk! With his outrageous burst and madness, he almost broke his club on that one. Good, cheap place to walk around hitting a ball drinking beers. We go in pretty big groups and just mess around through 9 holes of golf. If you're a serious golfer, go elsewhere. Sometimes some snooty people show up and they get all mad cause the game in front of them doesn't go fast enough. I say, If you want to play with other serious people, go somewhere else where the green fees are more $11. It's a cool par three golf course (9 or 18 hole option). No need to bring all your clubs, just bring a 9 , a sand wedge, and a putter. The furthest hole is only about 150 yds. read more

2nd time playing at this course this weekend and first of all, we had a pretty early tee time and by the time we check in, they had already fun out of carts. How does a course run out of golf carts? Then, on top of that... they were running almost half an hour behind on schedule. Needless to say, we only ended up playing the first nine because the day was going by so slowly. Lastly, they had just air-rated the greens so there were a lot of sand but they didn't tell us that until we found out for ourselves. Poorly managed but still a fun course. read more

I've never been on the Golfing side of this park, but I have walked the park from Clark Ave to Woodruff Ave a million times or more, it's about a 2 mile walk, this was of course before I gave in and got myself a GYM membership that I now don't use nearly enough, :) It's a nice park, they keep it pretty clean, and theres not too many people hanging around, I don't live in the best neighborhood, so I'm always on the lookout for somewhere safe that I can go... Lots of people bring their dogs, so if you're a Doggie lover like I am this is a good place to come, and gush over the sweet puppies, and because the path is nice and wide there's plenty of room for bicycles, without rudely moving you off the path, the best part of the park for me is the pond where all of the coolest Ducks and other Birds gather to chill out, and get a free meal from animal loving saps like me who bring them bread, I've even been known to stop by the market to actually buy a loaf of bread to stop and feed them, what can I say? read more

This review is for the driving range only. They charge $15 for a large bucket of 100 balls. But in reality you only get between 68 and 72 balls. When I brought this to their attention they pointed out to me the disclaimer on the price sheet which notes the number of balls you get is only an approximation. An acceptable approximate amount might be 90 to 95 balls. But 30 balls less is not even close to an approximate amount. Will be using other driving ranges... read more

This is the best place to come if you suck at golf. I suck at golf and decided to play my first actual round at Mile Square. That was a traumatizing experience - I wish I had come here, instead. The pace of play here is slow, the holes are backed up, lots of yelling of "FORE!". In other words, I don't stand out here. I'll be going back to Mile Square someday but not until I've mastered some basic fundamentals. This is a good place to do that. read more

Love this place! I'm still new to the game of golf and my short game needs some fine tuning....well all of my game needs some tuning haha This course is great for working on specifically your short game. The longest hole is only 140yds. Pretty much plan on using only irons. Usually rent a golf cart. Not because its needed, but because its a good time! Only two holes have any sort of water hazard. So it makes it an excellent course for those just learning the game. The staff is pretty friendly and helpful. The putting area is nice and large with a lot of different holes to choose from. I have tried the cafe they have several times and its a little pricey for the style of food, but its good. The best thing to me by far is the driving range. Tons of open mats to choose from and a lot of targets out in the distance. Just a fun place to go to golf! read more

This place is a decent golf course. If you want to practice your short game this is your course. Well maintained course even the restaurant looks nice! Too bad though I won't be able to use my driver on this course. This place isn't the nicest or the best maintained, but hey, if it's good enough for Tiger Woods, it's good enough for me! Tiger honed his short game here when he was little and it's my favorite course to fine tune my short game. Leave your driver at home. Hell, leave your woods and everything bigger than a 7 iron. You're going to iron and putt, or iron, wedge and putt. You have no room for error on this par 3. You can also play until 10pm and you can finish all 18 holes in less than 2 hours, if everyone is moving fast enough. Problem is, a lot of beginners play here so it's backed up a lot and you get a lot of dumb kids who goof off around the hole and take forever. By the way, you can hit off the grass at the driving range here! Score! Price: $12-19 Walking. read more
