I had the ethiopian breakfast which is just eggs and injera, and a mango soda. I think the food was okay but prices were quite high. I'd rather have smaller portions/cheaper prices than a huge $$$ one

I stopped by this Ethiopian spot just outside DC and was blown away by how flavorful everything was. The injera was some of the softest bread I've had perfect for scooping up all the different dishes. Every item we tried was packed with flavor, and there were plenty of both vegetarian and meat options to choose from. Inside it's a bit on the cramped side, especially if you're coming with a larger group, but there is additional seating toward the left side once you get inside which helps. The woman working there was an absolute sweetheart and helped me a ton when I felt a little overwhelmed by all the menu options. She was patient, kind, and gave great recommendations. Overall, really delicious food and a welcoming experience. I would definitely return.

This was our best meal in DC, by far. The eclectic Ethiopian breakfast menu was wild (and maybe a bit overwhelming), but amazing. The injera and egg dishes were unreal, but it was clear you could not go wrong here. The seating felt like someone's home, with various couches and coffee tables filling the restaurant. The coffee was one of the standout things they served; I'm not sure what they're doing with the coffee, but it was one of the better quality coffees I think I've ever had. Huge fan of this place, and would definitely return!!

So this place is fascinating -- great food, chill vibe, toddler doable-ish with some creativity... Food/drinks: veg platter (works for two - fyi), Ethiopian breakfast, smoothie, and tea were all fantastic. Gluten free injeera is available for surcharge. Well seasoned. And enjoy the spicy homemade green sauce as well; it's worth it! Service: Fine but you do have to do some work. You stand in line, order at the counter, and then they bring the food to you wherever you're sitting. Comes quick-ish. Ambiance: quirky. Main room has traditional furniture with royal-like chairs; it was crowded and people were working from there. Outside there's a heated patio situation; it's all bumper to bumper but we snagged a perfect space for a toddler. Lingering is not the norm for group meal/date. Kid-friendly? Saw no high chairs, would not want to bring stroller in, did find seating space that let her move more freely. Best part: this place is not precious. I'm not mad at it. Would do it again!

Had brunch here with a DC local, recently. It really is a diamond in the rough and feels like a NYC bodega. The staff were very friendly and I liked the decor inside, feels really unique. I ordered the ETHIOpian STYLE X (Sambosa) with the eggs and injera. It was very cooked very well, and I enjoyed the spices and flavor profile. I wished the particular dish came with more options, although this place has plenty of choices on the menu. Heat Da Spot a fast casual experience, unlike a late-night dining experience at somewhere like CherCher. However, place is bustling with locals for great reason. It works for meeting up with friends or grab-and-go meals. I'd highly recommend to drop by for a visit!

Everything at this place is so unbelievably BOMB. The menu is killer and has something for everyone. The service is so kind. They have a very cool coffee selection. Everything is priced exactly the way it should be. There's seating outside for small parties. This place is the embodiment of DC cuisine and I highly recommend it for everyone.

When you walk into Heat Da Spot it automatically feels like you've stepped into your grandma's kitchen--homey and filled with love. There's highlight menus everywhere on the wall with things that they offer. What stood out most was the sign above the register that says, " Do not rush the chef. We're not fast food. Your food is made with love. Place your order and sit on the throne kings and queens" lol I loved this sign so much. It reminded me to chill out so I sat down and enjoyed a soursop drink while my to go order was being made. I ordered a bacon egg and cheese on an everything bagel. Unfortunately I was not really a fan. It seemed like a small portion for the price. The egg tasted weird and microwaved and the bagel tasted like a Thomas bagel you would get from the grocery store. The bagel also came with a special spicy green sauce that I wasn't too fond of. I think the next time I will just go for the Ethiopian breakfast. Service was great, I'll return to try something else.

I happened to be in Washington DC for work and stumbled across this spot close to the Howard University Campus. I went with the Sausage Omelette and added bacon. This thing was AMAZING. It was packed with green peppers, tomatoes, red onions, potatoes and cheese. The toast came with light butter and a honey drizzle. If you are OK with somewhere where the decor is not so fancy, this place is a GEM. The owner was so accommodating and went above and beyond to ensure I enjoyed the experience. Their honey cinnamon iced coffee with cream was a winner. Oh, I was also able to log onto my laptop to get a few work items done due to the free WIFI. Please check them out.

Small place but very cool ... Heat da Spot is very small that's why I could give the 5 star Otherwise I would . I love coming here but some times is hard to find a sit . Not enough tables to enjoy the delicious food. I love having breakfast here, they have good hash breakfast and bacon. I had the breakfast sandwich and it was very good . They have great coffee available right away. The service is always good , don't take very long to give you the order. The cool thing is that the tables have cool quotes and names on it . read more

There's a sign on the wall that says the food is made with love. I think it really is. I was in town for a few days and joined three friends for breakfast. I love this place. My co-workers and I happened upon this restaurant when we tried to find places to eat that was open early (after our night shifts) where we could sit down. Everything about this place is great. The atmosphere is comfortable and welcoming, whether you sit indoors or out. The food is wonderful. But the best part to me is the way the owners treat you. We've been several times and they were gracious and welcoming each time. If you are looking for a small business to support. Look no further!! read more

I never write Yelp reviews but had to for this place because I felt it needed to be raved about! So here goes my first review! When I saw this place had 5 stars, I didn't really believe it. Thought maybe they had a promo asking customers to rate it 5 stars for some kind of discount. But when I came here for breakfast & brunch this morning, I completely understood why. I ordered pancakes, with eggs and bacon. My boyfriend got a vegetable omelet. Didn't expect anything more than two average breakfast platters, but I was pleasantly blown away by how delicious BOTH meals were! They paired nicely together, too! Rustic urban interior with 6 out of 5 star meals. Totally worth the price. Wouldn't even be mad if they charged me more because I'd gladly pay extra for the quality meal! read more

Folks! As a lover of breakfast 24/7, this is my spot! Amazing and so fresh and good! Just the right amount. Not too much, very fulfilling. The space is fun and interesting. It's really 3 stars, but since customer service seems to be a thing of the past, they get an extra star for their FRIENDLINESS! It's a locally owned place by a family. It's an interesting atmosphere with a lot of themes intertwined. There's a patio on the side with mixed matched tables and chairs, but it goes with the vibe of the place. The food...everything is a la carte. So, be mindful of that because your total will add up pretty fast. The black bean burger had a great flavor. The Ethiopian style breakfast was just eggs scrambled in spices and a sauce. I asked if I could substitute the "toast" for something else and the lady mentioned home fries. Substitute actually meant charge you for a side lol, but it was cool. I don't eat store bought bread, and I assumed that's what the "toast" was. But it wasn't until our food was brought out that I was made aware that the bread was made in-house. Since the "toast" came with my meal, and I didn't actually substitute it lol, I asked the server to bring it out. It was really good! I would return for the black bean burger and to try some other menu items. The Ethiopian breakfast and cheese fries were meh. I don't know when people will realize customer service will take you a long way! But this place does, and that's part of the reason the ratings are so high. read more

This is the best breakfast place in DC! I had the Ethiopian special breakfast with stir-fried potatoes and my husband had the Ethiopian breakfast and oh my- we were in culinary heaven! My husband even told me I had to go on yelp to let the world know how amazing this place is. The service is exceptional! When we were looking over the menu in awe, the owner/server said if we don't find anything we like, they can make us anything. I was so touched by the kindness but assured him that we were just so excited by the myriad of options. We are definitely coming back and can't wait to try more breakfast options! read more

So small but so so so worth it- very diverse menu of traditional American and Ethiopian breakfast/cafe options. They also sell bottled beverages and snacks, coffee and tea. I found myself asking everyone at the place what they had ordered and how it was because it all looked so incredible. Service was downright jolly. No way you could be in a bad mood here- and the relaxed chatter of the people inside really showed it. Hope to be back soon. It's not fancy or haute-cuisine, nor is it a stop to grab a sandwich an run, but it is absolutely a wonderful place to sip on a cup of coffee and enjoy a hot plate of breakfast or lunch. Owned and managed by Ethiopians, you will be shocked to see how much their omelettes remind you of your mom's. If you want Ethiopian food, stop by for lunch on Sundays for the best bang-for-your-buck buffet you will find. But most importantly, this place is run by a family, and if you are friendly, you will instantly be welcomed as one of them. I come here on my home days for work and pass hours sipping coffee and chatting with the staff and patrons alike. I'm so lucky to have found this place right around the corner! read more

This place is great! Inside it is WAY more beautiful than I expected it to be! This is going to be my new favorite coffee shop. It's close to my house, really pretty inside, and pretty cheap coffee -- $2 for a 12 oz, more for a regular large. You can get a small hot chai latte for $2.25 or a large iced one for $3.50. Heat da Spot serves egg and cheese sandwiches for $3.50 all day and with meat for an extra dollar (bacon, ham, sausage). They also have pastries ranging from $2 to $4.50 , sandiches ranging from $5 to $8... And.. what is this?? There is an all you can eat ethiopian food sunday brunch for $15?! what?! I have to go back.. The only thing that is a "negative" for me is that there is a TV playing in there that can be quite distracting if you go hoping to camp out and get some work done for a few hours. read more

I needed to find a new place to study, so I came here, got connected to their free wifi and ordered a bacon, egg, and cheese croissant and chai tea latte for $8.44. That's pretty much unheard of around these parts nowadays. This place isn't big, but there is plenty of room to chill and relax, read, study, or catch up with a friend. This might be my new spot to stop by when I need a change of scenery. read more

Heat Da Spot! We ordered two bacon egg and cheese Sandwiches on croissants and an Ethiopian style breakfast and shared between 4 people. All amazing. The owner brought us coffee on the house and the service was quick and very warm. Breakfast sandwiches were perfect and the seasoning on the eggs was perfect - not too spicy. The green sauce had great heat and matched well with both items for me. It's 10/10 from me! read more

One of my favorite places to go to when in DC! It's homey and the staff are so friendly! Tons of choices to pick from in food but they'll also make anything you want! (Even if it's not on their menu). Flavored drinks, from iced teas to lattes. Anything you can think of they'll find a way to make it for you! It was closer to lunch when I came in, so I decided to get a steak and cheese sandwich instead of a breakfast menu item. I also got an iced latte, which didn't come with sugar. I had to add that in myself. But the sandwich was delicious. My only complaint is that it was way too oily it was dripping a lot as I ate. But the sandwich was cooked well, and I enjoyed the standard toppings. They have a pretty diverse menu. I recommend checking them out if you're in the area.

They handled everything smoothly and made the experience stress free. This time I had the french fries and samosas, which were both delicious. I've also had the Heritage before and absolutely loved it. Everyone at the table enjoyed their dishes and drinks, which says a lot for a larger group outing. I really love the concept behind Immigrant Food and the way they creatively blend and celebrate flavors from different cultures. It's one of those places that feels thoughtful, welcoming, and genuinely unique while still being approachable and fun. Definitely one of my favorite spots in DC.
