Well... what can I say. There was a long thick black hair cooked into my omelet. The whole place is really gross. I could see the disheveled woman that the hair came from and it looked like she hadn't bathed in a week... ya know when hair is really dirty and it starts to clump together from all the grease, yeah she had that goin on. Gone here a few times, in the morning. If you like quaint bistro places, this isn't it. They don't take credit cards. They keep costs down. They have a counter and tables but George is very friendly and memorizes your order so he doesn't bother with the whole paper check thing. Food was hot and good! Kind of a local joint, where people at the counter start talking to the other people at the counter because this is the atmosphere of the place. They've got some TVs going. How should I begin? Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to Heidi's! Here, you shall be greeted at the door with a smile and a welcoming nod by George, who is rad, within AT LEAST 25 minutes. Unless George is somehow absent that day, and that nasty Greek? Russian? Serbian? lady is running things--in which case you shall stand awkwardly in the doorway staring at the local Walthamians at the counter talking about the Pats game as you contemplate leaving because all you have to look at now is the dirty ATM machine next to you and you realize it's cash only and you only have a credit card. Now--it's not so bad once you ask nasty lady if you can sit, and she will look you over and say, "yes," and she will angrily point to the single non-dirty table in the center of the restaurant next to the single old lady with the greasy breakfast. Said old lady will smile at you as you and your friend wonder why you just didn't go to Taqueria Mexico instead--(it's really not that far down Moody street)--and sit down to enjoy Heidi's' promising eggs and toast! After maybe ten minutes, your friend will rise to visit the restroom, and in the meantime, the nasty lady (or George, hopefully, if he's there that day) will place two beverage napkins brusquely before you in a manner which suggests "no time!". Your friend will emerge from the disgusting bathroom to inform Nasty Lady that there's "no soap in the bathroom." She will laugh, and tell him to use the women's room, because, apparently, there's soap in there. If you are lucky enough to have George as your caretaker, he will remember your face, your life story and your order. He's pretty cool. Then he will bring your water with his finger in your glass and sweat in your greasy eggs. Yum! Ew. I still come here for some reason. I think it's because I like George. Cheap yes. Ham served with breakfast, I've seen tissue paper that's thicker. Flies seem to love their cornbread (not covered). Dirty coffee mug, silverware, and kitchen staff don't wear gloves or hair nets. They wipe down tables with nasty, dirty rags: I didn't detect any bleach. Wait staff are gruff and seem to be pissed that you've come in. Better off finding another place or staying home and cook yourself. read more

Meh... probably worse than Meh. I know this is just a greasy spoon, but I don't think a side of grease should come with every order. The coffee was lukewarm. The toast barely toasted. The waitress got up on the wrong side of the bed. The food not so good. I've always wondered about this little spot on Moody St., so the only good thing is I can stop wondering. read more

My friends and I love Heidis. Its a one of a kind, hidden gem on Moody street - which is already very dense with restaurants. Not sure about the other reviewers here...if you want upscale food go to Tempo or Soleil and stay away from diners- they all serve greasy breakfast food, what do you expect? Their staff is nice enough given that they work from the ass crack of dawn EVERY SINGLE DAY...I even get a free meal from time to time from Georgie just for being nice and understanding he is working hard. So, whether your hungover, low on funds, hungry or a combination of the previous - I would give Heidis a try -its not elegant but its well worth it. read more

I ate breakfast here with my family the last time I visited Boston in December 2007, and after the infamous breakfast fiasco at Lindy's in New York City (supposedly a famous restaurant, but to our dismay, overpriced, mediocre food) a few days prior, my family and I considered anything to be better than what we had experienced at Lindy's (see my review). From what I can remember, the food was good and nominally priced, didn't take a long time for the food to come out, and the service was decent. Heidi's has its regulars and the staff knows them and talks to them, but it's good if you're on the go during breakfast hours and looking for a small, family style place to eat. read more

My boyfriend and I come for breakfast pretty much every weekend. Food is good, consistent. Have alternative meats from pork like turkey bacon and chicken sausage. Definitely worth a try, it can get crowded however. read more

Staff was friendly and the food was good. The breakfast sandwich was delicious, but the grits were not so good. It's a nice neighborhood restaurant where the server knew almost everyone who came in. The prices were very reasonable compared to the other breakfast joints in the area-- possibly the cheapest breakfast around. So I'd go there again... probably. read more

The owners are Armenian, while they have Greek décor. On top of that, they have plantains on the menu! Plus a star for that. Maybe I made a mistake by ordering an egg in hand, with a side of corned beef hash and plantains. Cleared my plate in short time and, was left unsatisfied. Someone else got waffles with strawberries and, another got an omelet. It all looked good. The owner came by and asked how it was. So, I explained and he offered seconds for no extra charge. Added a side of home fries even. That sure did me in. The others shared a round of plantains and Greek sausage. As for why they offer fried bananas, he explained that it's due to local demand. read more

I love this place. George and Ava (owners) are extremely welcoming. Anyone that walks in the door gets the same greeting whether it be their first time or they are a diehard regular. It's like Cheers where everyone knows your name. At least Ava and George do. The blueberry pancakes are my favorite. Light and fluffy and lots of blueberries. The portions are large so I only order one. The home fries are the best around. We always order them crispy. The breakfast burrito is also very good. My friends love the omelettes as well. Heidi's is a place that I want to love but the food isnt very good. The owner is very friendly guy and they have some pluses, such as cheap food and they are opened after the bars close. However, if I am going out for breakfast, I want better quality. I can make better food myself that is far less greasy. Also, this is not the most sanitary diner on the planet. If you want the absolute best Egg McMuffin go to Heidi's. Really delicious and inexpensive to boot. The staff are very friendly though occasionally overworked when the place is full to capacity. Which it is during peak times. Generally good diner food at a very reasonable prices. In the winter try the beef stew for lunch, very good, only a couple days a week. read more

Heidi's is a typical greasy spoon style Greek diner that serves up very tasty food for a very reasonable price. The place is always packed with locals and most people know Heidi, George and the rest of the staff on a first name basis. They are always busy around breakfast time and it's even busier on the weekends, especially now that they open at midnight on Friday and Saturday nights. While they sometimes get a little overwhelmed from the crowds, the food always comes out hot and delicious and the staff has never been anything less than friendly with me. I consider Heidi's to be a great hidden gem. A couple of details for you... The Heidi's Egg Muffin Sandwich is a great deal and I love the french toast and the house omelette (chorizo, feta, spinach, tomato). This may seem random, but I'm one of those people who is picky about the brand of orange juice a diner serves (nothing bothers me more than paying a high price for OJ at a diner and then getting the watery cheap stuff) and I have always been appreciative that Heidi's serves Tropicana, if that sort of thing matters to you. Its unfortunate that some Yelpers have been a little harsh on their reviews of this place, it's well worth a visit and you absolutely cannot beat the quality of the food for the price anywhere in the area. read more

I decided to go out to breakfast this morning and try a local place down the road. First let me say I love local restaurants, I'm not a fan of chains due to the lack of respect for the food. I was optimistic heading in but the service started off bad. I ordered two eggs with HB and corned beef hash (which was decent, but hash was from a can) this meal was suppose to come with a coffee. After ordering at the counter the waitress proceeded to clean and do dishes instead of pouring my coffee. (and to the defense of the place, it was very clean). I had to ask for my coffee a second time in order to get it. My breakfast was put in the window after it was completed and delivered promptly but then taken away because the waitress was unsure if it was mine? (it was) she gave me breakfast back after her confirmation was correct. mid way through the meal I asked for a refill on the coffee and never got it... Although I love local mom and pop shops I have to say i'll probably never go back due to the service... It wasn't a very busy morning either?! There are great places that Ive been too around this area like "In a Pickle" that treat their customers like they want them there... I hope the owners see this review and change some things... Today, my friend and I decided to go get brunch off campus, since the food on campus is non-existent. After getting ourselves our own personal taxi driver(shout-out to Jay), he drove us to Heidi's for food. It's a low-key, family-owned diner with an awesome owner. My friend order the Spanish Omelette with the Corn Beef Hash and the Gyro. Both were delicious. I got the Belgum Waffle with two Eggs over easy. The waffle was a bit burnt, but the eggs were cooked perfectly. We got some toast to dip in the eggs. Our bill came to about $20, including tip. It's a nice place to get breakfast, plus it's open at midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. Don't come here expecting a gourmet brunch in a high scale restaurant. I don't usually write restaurant reviews but after going to Heidi's for breakfast I just had to, it is true the food is good and very cheap but what struck me was George and his crew, he is very soft spoken and knows everyone by name, even though I had never been to Heidi's before I felt like a member of the family...you do not find service like this in even the best restaurants and the food taste even better when you are greeted so warmly! I will definitely be going there again and perhaps will become a regular myself :) read more

Old School Neighborhood Breakfast/Lunch place. Cash Only. Informal friendly place, full of regulars that are addressed by name (its the "Cheers" of Waltham). I am not sure how many years they have been in business; but I remember visiting friends who lived in the 'hood back in the '90's and going to breakfast here. "Awesome Waltham Waffles" (say that fast 5 times) was our mantra that weekend. 2 Decades later, I now live here; and on a recent visit, service and food are still decent. A basic breakfast served quick for under $6. You don't find that everyday. I will be back. read more
