The food here is delicious! First came here during the Taste of Adams Avenue event and decided to come back because it was tasty. They have great lunch specials Mon-Fri for $10-11. This chicken shawarma during the lunch special was $11 and was a great portion. They also offer free tzatski, ranch, tahini etc on the side which I thought was great since some places can be stingy about it. This may be a new regular spot for work days! read more

The current owners took this place over sometime before 2020 and it really was a godsend for the neighborhood because they always had stock of the things grocery stores were out of. 6 years later, it's still a huge strength of theirs. I'm routinely surprised at the things they carry. If there's a "best in class" version of something, they probably have it. They have huge selection of beer, wine and liquor. The food is great and they carry tons of ready made lunches for a much more reasonable price than fast food. The staff has always been outstandingly friendly and the place is super clean. I know if I'm out of something I can just stop by this market and they'll probably what I'm looking for and there's almost always parking. In terms of neighborhood markets, I consider that elite. read more

We love Heights Market and Sahara and are so glad they are a part of our Normal Heights neighborhood ! They are a great local and family owned business, and love being able to grab lunch or dinner and groceries at the same time. The beer selection gets worse and worse. Every time I happen to find something I like, next time I go back, they don't have it. You can get a 12 pack for $20 down the street at Vons for the same beer they sell a 6 pack for $17. Almost all the 16 oz are broken up and sold individually for $7-9 each. $30+ for a 4 pack is insane lol. Bine and Vine across the street is cheaper and has a better craft selection. read more

This review is for Sahara inside norma heights market I mean the liquor store is cool too and be having some stuff that you might not see at every other liquor store so good on them. Sahara is Mediterranean food I knew what I wanted from jump so I gotta the Sahara fries with 2 proteins chicken shawarma and gyro let me tell you this I got an incredible hulk portion that one meal became two and I'm a big boy so that's saying something. My wife got a bowl with beef shawarma and then we got 4 egg rolls or bureqs one was all beef fire the other was chicken and veg bad it was bomb too. Portion are amazing price point is right where It should be to be competitive all in all great experience. Plus being in a liquor store if your taking it to go you can grab a 6 pack of beer maybe some wine or any other cocktail. read more

I love this neighborhood market! They have everything you need. The new added shawarma spot is good too. I've been several times and it's been consistent. I don't like their garlic sauce though. It reminds me more of a ranch dressing than garlic. They always have great service. read more

I was shopping for whiskey, and the man working there was getting a bottle from a higher top shelf while I was pointing at it and talking to him. apparently the women cooking in the kitchen were upset God he was helping me and threw a pallet right next to me. I don't know why I bought the $80+ bottle. I should've just walked out. They were talking in their language. I'm sure they were angry that the man was talking to me, but i don't know why as I was just buying liquor. Never will go there again ever!!! ...that is assault. read more

This place is so underrated it's insane. I live a few blocks away & they have not only the best dolmas I've had in SD but the best fries, hot & cold salads (chipotle hummus pasta salad)? Yes pls. One time got a craving for egg salad & had one of the best egg salad sandwiches ever true Japanese style here. It's actually more eclectic than strict middle eastern shut Sahara has all the classics & the twists. Get the fries to order you won't be disappointed. Best foreign candy selection, rare beverage selection, all while being affordable, kind & well...at times intimidatingly handsome. It is truly a market in every sense. I'm new to this Sand Diego neighborhood and love walking Adams Street so when I spotted this market and looked at the menu I was definitely excited. I love falafel so that's what caught my eye first. I had the falafel and my husband had a Greek gyro. Both were delicious and I can't wait to try the other items on the menu. Definitely recommending this market/restaurant to my family and friends. Love this place and the people! Store is clean, and the ready-made meals are pretty good. There's quite a selection of liquor. It's got a few kitchen staples but you might not always find what you need. Staff is friendly and if you're a regular they recognize you and always greet people coming in. Nice community vibe to it. I go here nearly every day. The ready-to-eat food is great, I've literally never tried something I didn't like, whether it was a sandwich, salad, snack, or dessert. They have an amazing selection of beer and other drinks, as well as just about everything you could need around the house. Staff is also so friendly and helpful. If they carried fresh produce and meat, I would definitely go here every single day and never shop at a grocery store again. Huge bodega vibes!!! read more

What a lovely small, neighborhood market. They have a lot of products--and the staff couldn't be nicer. Right now I'd rather shop at a neighborhood small market than a large supermarket. I'm writing this reviews because it has happened twice when I have ordered alcohol from an app. So beware if you do order from them. They list they have alcohol in stock and the order is accepted. Once you go to pick it up. They cancel it while in the store and say they don't have it. One of the items was Stagg Jr. I spotted it on their shelves, so I asked about it. The cashier stated it was a different proof and the price was 4 times the MSRP for the bottle. It's super frustrating, and my $$ or review may not make a difference, but I give up shopping there. It's really unfortunate and I feel like it's just poor business practice. read more

When I look into liquor stores I usually have one thing in mind; beer selection. If you like beer, this place will definitely not disappoint. They carry New Belgium, Stone, Karl Strauss (special stuff not the usual) and quite a few others. If you want cheap beer, they have that too, although with all the great micro brews available in San Diego, I don't recommend it. The staff was very friendly and easy to deal with. They were happy to help with snack acquisitions, or any other questions I had. I think my favorite part of this place, well aside from the beer, is the fact that Manny's Taco Cart is inside. Great beer, good food, good snacks, friendly people. What else could I need in a corner liquor store. Give it a shot if you want. read more

Do you want honest, polite, friendly, easy-going grocery market owners, managers, and workers? I do. I don't just care about good prices and products, I want nice people around me. I want a clean good looking market, as if it were an extension of my kitchen. And their prices don't go up and down week to week so you never know what you're going to be charged. Lou is a good man. You can see his clean soul in his smiling eyes. Lou Lou Lou. Always a gentleman and professional, but still a regular dude. This is why I go out of my way several exits, just to come here, even when there are plenty of corner markets everywhere. This one is special, and an improvement over the almost historic but not as cute or tightly run store that was here before. Bravo! read more

If I could invent a time machine, I'd go back and never step foot in this disgusting store. To be short and sweet - it's dirty, smells like spoiled seafood, the owner is an asshole, and they treat paying customers like potential thieves. I've never been so uncomfortable in a store... the owner just stares at you the whole time and you can't even pick up your own cold wine/champagne bottles - they have to come over and get it for you (?) idk the reasoning but it feels very unnecessary. I like to be treated like the adult paying customer that I am instead of being micromanaged and suspiciously watched while shopping. I'm all for shopping local and supporting small businesses but there are PLENTY of other convenient places to get the exact same things, and possibly less potential food poisoning from their gross "seafood bar". read more

I came here after getting a mailer about the specials they were running. I won't type everything here, but I walked out with 5 pounds of different types of meat, bread, eggs, fruit, potatoes and some snacks for the wife all for about $30. Fantastic deal. The dude running the register was extremely helpful, he even gave me chicken breast when he was supposed to give me ground beef since they had run out. I'll be watching the mail for their next round of specials because I flat out can't beat the deal I just got. If you are going to complain about the dust and general lack of cleanliness, you should probably go back outside and read the part of the sign that says "liquor." Seriously. The guy pouring was so nice and knowledgeable. We liked the wine so much we grabbed a bottle and decided to drink it there. Added bonus: since it was one of the featured wines, the corkage was free. Bottlecraft is a bottle shop, bar, and cheese shop all in one small, perfectly curated space. They have a lovely outdoor seating area and some indoor seating as well. There are TVs inside, so we were able to catch some exciting March Madness moments while we hung out. When we paid, the host was super friendly and brought us a little ice bucket to keep our chilled wine cold, along with two glasses, and let us choose any table we wanted. They have a wide selection of beers on tap, plus tons of bottles and cans to go. I also appreciate the large section of canned mocktails and NA beers -- love seeing that. They carry wine, beer, vermouth, and more. In the back, tucked away, is Venissimo Cheese, which is amazing. You can order cheese plates, sandwiches, and other goodies to enjoy with your drinks. I feel like you are only going here if you have to. And in that case good luck to you…read more I went in looking for a $40 bottle of straight rye (standard retail price). The employee told me they didn't have it and offered a substitute. When she rang it up, the price came out to $75. I questioned it, and she said she thought I was buying a different bottle. After that, she adjusted the price, but it still ended up being $50. It was late at night and there weren't many other places open, so I bought it anyway. When I got home, I realized the bottle was a maple-flavored whiskey--not a straight rye like I had asked for. What confused me is that if they didn't have the rye, there were plenty of regular bourbons on the shelf that would have been a closer substitute. Instead I was sold a more expensive flavored whiskey that I didn't ask for. To be fair, I could have paid closer attention before leaving the store. But the whole interaction felt off, and it left me with the impression that the substitute was chosen to move a more expensive product rather than match what I asked for. That was my experience. Update: A commenter here says they spoke with the store and that my review is "incorrect," and then describes a different version of the interaction. And after today, will never return as it was the second instance of horrific customer service that points to levels of psychosis. A couple months ago, I came in, had forgotten my wallet, and my phone was dead. So I grabbed my charger, and asked if I could charge my phone so I could use ApplePay to purchase my usual pack of booze from 'em. Dude just said no. I could not use an outlet to charge my phone so I could pay them. I said why not? Answer was simply: no. I left, confused, but okay, whatever. Today, I went to grab the pack, the handle ripped off immediately, and the cans rolled around the floor. I kinda scooched em together, grabbed another pack, and went to get checked out and let 'em know what happened. One person was getting checked out ahead of me, and the moment that I made eye contact with the clerk (pretty sure he's the new owner, fat dude, grey hair) and lifted my pack, pointing at the handle and starting to say "Hey dude, I ripped ---" he yelled, "WHY YOU NOT CLEAN UP??" Taken aback, I froze for a second. Then said, "uhh... well, what would you have me do? The thing ripping was out of my control, and I came over to let you know that I ----" "NO. YOU NOT TELL. YOU NO RESPECT STORE." "....What? Dude, you know me, I come here all the time. Plus, it's not really my responsibility to clean up after an incident like this, that's yours if we're being hon----." He didn't like that at all. He demanded that I give him the new pack and Sprite I had for Wifey, and literally screamed at me to get out of the store. I took a couple steps away and asked if someone hurt him, if he last a pet, a child, what was wrong? Because, to warrant this sort of an outburst really only points to what Uncle Roger would call... Emoshunal Daaaamage. Oh well, on the bright side, within 2-3 blocks there are at least two other liquor stores with better prices. I hope you find your meds, dude. We were told that the cake was torched around the sides and it creates a nice toasty edge. So decadent and thick and rich and lots of chocolate! There were multiple signs and items, and it wasn't clear what he was referring to. I asked again for clarification, and he repeated himself--this time with clear irritation. I said "I don't see it". With some distain he replied "chicken noodle soup". At that point, it was obvious the interaction wasn't going anywhere productive or that this individual did not value his customers. I made a comment about the attitude and left. Here's the reality: in today's economic environment, every customer matters. I came in with the intention of spending money and potentially becoming a repeat customer. Instead, I was met with dismissive and unfriendly service for no reason. What are we doing? I wasn't rude or confrontational - I simply asked a basic question. The employee could have have simply stated what the soup of the day was. Instead, his attitude was unnecessarily hostile and reflects poorly on the business. Interactions like that don't just lose a single sale, they cost long-term customers and referrals. If ownership is paying attention, fire this guy!Staff represent your brand, and this experience fell well below any reasonable standard of hospitality. Instead I was sold a more expensive flavored whiskey that I didn't ask for. To be fair, I could have paid closer attention before leaving the store. But the whole interaction felt off, and it left me with the impression that the substitute was chosen to move a more expensive product rather than match what I asked for. That was my experience.
