I'd been looking forward to trying Heirloom, which bills itself as *"an award-winning, farm-to-table, forward-thinking concept we like to call casual fine dining."* Sounds like my kind of place. Unfortunately, the experience didn't live up to the promise. The dining room is lovely--well lit, calm, and soothing. The menu, however, leaned heavily into fried foods (surprising for a farm-to-table spot, though yes, this is the South). We started with fried mushrooms and warm olives, both of which landed with a thud. The mushrooms were scarce and leaned more on other vegetables lacked seasoning. The olives were soft, bordering mushy, and missed that bright, briny pop. Neither came with serving spoons, which felt oddly careless. My burger arrived generously topped but oddly bland, despite all the extras. The truffle fries were fine, though I found myself wishing for regular fries--or at least a little rosemary to wake them up. The biggest letdown, though, was the service. Our server seemed unfamiliar with the menu and would check in only to practically dart away as we were mid-sentence. We never felt particularly welcomed or that our experience mattered. We made reservations for dinner at Heirloom on Saturday night. They are located at 2484 North Landing Road in the heart of the Virginia Beach Courthouse District. We were seated promptly upon arrival and everything just got better and better afterwards. We were seated in the Bar Area and Brody was our server. He was so helpful with menu questions and suggestions. It was our Anniversary and they made our night special by including a card signed by the staff, prominently displayed on our table as we arrived. They were also very kind to have Happy Anniversary on the menu, a wonderful gesture. It's the little things that make such a big difference. We started out with a Wedge Salad and it was delicious. They were kind enough to split it for us because it is a large portion and certainly enough to share. All of the ingredients were fresh and delicious. The dressing was very good as well. We also tried the Bruschetta, (they don't call it that because it's a fancy version of the classic Italian dish) and it was amazing. We enjoyed it very much. The bread was perfectly toasted and the bruschetta was well balanced and delicious. I had a cup of She Crab Soup, that I probably shouldn't have, but I'm sure glad I did. It was amazing, full of chunks of crab, seasoned perfectly and I almost licked the bowl, it was that good. For dinner, my Wife had the Whole Fried Red Snapper. This was a wonderfully presented dish. They had it sitting upright on the plate surrounded with ribbon cut vegetables and Wild Rice. It was served piping hot and the fish was tender and delicious. I had the Pork Chops and I really enjoyed them. They were bone in, cooked perfectly and they were delicious. We had a wonderful evening and it made our Anniversary celebration very special. What a perfect dinner to end the night on my birthday. Everything was amazing. We even got a personalized menu for my birthday. That was so neat and so sweet. It really added to the experience for everyone. We had Brody for our server, and he was amazing. He was also the bartender, but that didn't stop him from being so attentive to our table. The table started with the large oysters Rockefeller, scallops, and butterfly shrimp. Everything was amazing. My husband got the whole snapper for his meal, as he always does. I normally share with him, but I got the mushroom gremelli tonight. Other people got the tico tacos, scallops, I don't know what else. Everything was perfect. Nothing was inedible, the whole experience just felt like someone trying to create a fancy restaurant but they had never actually been to a nice restaurant outside of VA Beach. This place would not last in DC, Boston, etc. Honestly, maybe not even Richmond. We got the tuna and duck. Both very different proteins but oddly you couldn't tell what type of meat you were eating. Could have been steak or anything else. At an upscale restaurant, my tuna should taste like a high quality tuna and be delicious on its own - not just because the sauce is good. Same with duck, which should almost melt in your mouth. Instead it was chewy and came with basically no sides other than some crunchy onions, so my husband left hungry. The drink was good but for something described as so mango-y it was a very muted/lost flavor. Finally, they charge a 3% surcharge for using a credit card! This isn't a local boutique store. My meal was $150 and I was hungry at the end and you can't cover a basic fee for doing business? Hard pass on this one for me. Left feeling borderline scammed and icky. read more

Finally made the drive from the OBX for my girlfriends birthday as per her request. Glad we finally made it because this was one of the best dining experiences we've had in a long while. Upon arrival almost 40 minutes before our reservation time, we were greeted promptly with a smile and immediately sat. The exterior of the building blends in with the neighboring businesses located in the same shopping center which was a little odd. But as soon as you walk in you are almost transported to an immaculately clean modernized barn with multiple dining areas and a super cute bar with an outdoor garden type feel. I wish we had gotten our servers name because she was absolutely pleasant and great at what she does. She didn't make us feel like just another check. Even the food runners and bussers were on point, polite and efficient. With good additions to the menu as well as a variety of different options on the house menu (but without overloading it with too many options) I was able to narrow my entree down to 3 options. Before I get to the entree though I should mention our starters. We happened to catch the end of happy hour and scored 3 steamed oysters (for me) and 3 raw oysters (for her). They were the cleanest oysters we've ever had and perfectly salty paired with a balanced mignonette. Then we shared the warm olives with focaccia. For dinner, we both ended up ordering the pasta even though that is way outside our norm as we always order two different entrees and share. Needless to say, I guess we both just really wanted pasta. I mean this pasta had smoked pork belly, guanciale (pork cheek), button and shiitake mushrooms with grana padano and an egg yolk. It was fantastic and the perfect portion. Kudos to the owners of Heirloom because this is exactly how a restaurant should operate. After thorough research and consideration, I chose Heirloom to celebrate my birthday for Dinner and I was not disappointed. From the start I was greeted by such a pleasant staff that truly made me feel welcomed and kicked off the experience. We sat at the back table of the restaurant which I enjoyed so I could watch the dining room and also felt more comfortable taking pictures of my dishes and conversing with my friends. The ambiance was beautiful and I couldn't imagine a better setting for this dinner. Lighting was present but just dim enough to set a comfortable mood. There was also music played at a nice level that you could enjoy bust still talk over with the table. Our server was amazing and answered all questions we had and made recommendations as well as giving honest opinions and options. For drinks they were nice enough to craft a mocktail upon my request. We also got the Welcome to Virginia Peach which was well balanced and flavorful made with a local vodka and The Pungo Book which had a great mouthfeel. Both were gorgeous to look at. We were served a complimentary amuse bouche to kick off our dining. For appetizers both of my guests had the She Crab Soup which was rich and filled with generous amounts of crab. I ordered the Scallops and I'm so glad I did. They were cooked beautifully and accompanied by corn, okra, crispy bacon, sun dried tomatoes and a light sauce to make a gorgeous balanced plate. I've been really craving scallops lately and this dish met my expectations. For dinner we asked plenty of questions before making a decision and we all were satisfied with our choices. I got the Snapper with coconut rice and Plantains. This dish was truly a showstopper. The whole fried snapper was crispy on the outside and super flaky and moist on the inside. The snapper was served on the most delicious coconut rice that was cooked to perfection and heavily infused with coconut along with super sweet plantains that had a crusted sugar that added a nice textural element. The New York Strip was medium rare and was seasoned beautifully, juicy and tender. The lamb was also a star with the most delicious tzatziki potatoes. Although we were stuffed, no birthday dinner is complete without a dessert so we ordered the S'mores tart to share which was served beautifully with a nice goey torched marshmallow and had a nice cold bite. We had a delightful time at Heirloom tonight. Our server, Kelly, was a joy and was able to provide perfect recommendations for both food and drink. My cocktail was outstanding, the soup was delicious, and my snapper was like an art exhibit! Actually gorgeous (and more importantly, very tasty). Pulling up the this place you wouldn't think too much about it, but as soon as you walk in you're suddenly taken in by the quaint view of elegance and sophistication in a small setting. The hostesses were polite and greeted us as soon as we walked in, we had reservations so the wait was maybe 5 minutes before we had gotten seated. It was Valentine's Day weekend and the bar was packed with what seemed to be locals or regulars, while the rest of the restaurant was filled with people who were obviously having dinner dates. The menu was somewhat of a let down to me as I was just expecting more options, and as a previous Chef, I didn't care for some of the pairings on the menu. Now, what I will say is this is place for most to experience something different if they want to step outside of their normal while not getting too crazy. It's one of the best in the 757, not willing to argue that statement. Lots of options at super affordable prices, but the quality is absolutely not wavering because of this. We tried every single thing off the happy hour food menu, except for the burger. Only reason we skipped that is because their main menu burger sounds SO much better and I'll be back for that. Heirloom is everything a restaurant should be. They care greatly about the food they serve, they make sure their staff is knowledgeable on the menu and all the ingredients, and the employees all care about the customers and their experience. When you first walk in, it's like walking into a friend's country home, ready to eat a delicious meal and drink some wonderful wine and cocktails. The hostess staff are very nice and friendly. The open ceiling makes the place feel open and large but the curated seating arrangements make it feel like more of an intimate experience. We sat on the other side of the restaurant across from the bar area in a nice big booth. We watched groups at the bar enjoying drinks and great conversation with each other and the bartenders. Our first server greeted us with water and told us in detail about 3 specials they had that day. She was very knowledgeable and was even able to answer follow up questions about the dishes. We then had another server bring out two tasting spoons from the kitchen filled with a house made jam, cream(?), and granola. It was a nice sweet taste and made us excited to try more food from their kitchen. The menu is small compared to other big chain restaurants but it's curated so well, not duplicating meals even slightly. There's a chicken option, a beef option, a few different types of fish, a duck entree. So much to choose from, all with different flavor compositions! We ended up trying the Heirloom shrimp first, as it seemed it was a staple here. The shrimp was cooked nicely, not over cooked, breading is light, and the house made aioli complements it very well, we had to ask for extra it was so tasty! I'm on an olive kick so I had to try their Warm Olive appetizer. This is made of different olives, tomato confit, fish oil, orange, and shaved goat cheese. I wasn't sure what to expect but this was so delicious. The ratio was perfect for all ingredients but I wish I would have tasted the orange a little bit more. I'm also a big cheese girl and was wanting more goat cheese when I first saw it but after trying it I thought it was a perfect amount, just enough to bring it all together. After ordering two appetizers and two glasses of wine, we were starting to fill up so we decided to order just one entree to share. We were so torn trying to decide on just one! We ultimately landed on the Southern Fried Chicken dish and boy this did not disappoint!! This portion was massive but felt like it was necessary for this meal. The bowl it was served in was unique but this meal was the perfect size for this dish. I thought the plating was so nice! To start, the pimento mac and cheese was the BEST pimento mac and cheese I've ever had, so flavorful! The chicken was tasty as well, the black pepper honey drizzled all over was perfect. The breading on the chicken was super tasty, I just wish it had stuck on more to the chicken when cutting into it. My fiancé got a good piece of crispy breaded skin and couldn't stop talking about how good it was the whole meal. Overall, dinner was so wonderful. Our second server was attentive, flipped our silverware after appetizers and before our entree. He made sure we had enough water and wine throughout the meal. Oysters rock seemed bland and parm cheese looked to be the shaker type?! Soft shell appetizer was cooked perfectly but super salty. I ordered their burger and it was cooked as requested but loaded with onions. (Like a big BLOB!) The potatoes were supposed to be garlic fries but they were also so salty I couldn't eat them! My friend got the tuna tacos. She said they were just okay. Our bill was $130-we each had two pomegranate martinis. We tipped forty dollars.....because service has nothing to do with the kitchen. I was impressed at the amount of information he could give us when comparing individual dishes to one another. I had a delicious Old Fashioned and my wife tried two drinks that he recommended and all were well received. The menu has some diversity, leaning a bit toward the seafood side, but with options for steaks, pork chops, some pasta and a burger. Appetizers were tasty and light, and dinner portions were decent sized. After our meal, we ordered some desserts to go. We had reservations for my son's Birthday Dinner but learned at the last minute that the restaurant was without power due to Tropical Storm Ian. I'm very happy that our plans changed. My son narrowed our new dinner choices to two. The menu at Heirloom looked awesome. So the decision on new reservations was made. Their location is on the eastern side of North Landing Road just below the Virginia Beach Courthouse Complex. When we first researched the location, I saw that it was in a space where I had dined previously with two earlier occupants. Both were relatively plainly furnished. So I didn't expect what I saw when I walked in the door. The renovation was superb. It spoke to a wonderful dining experience. And it certainly was. The wine & drink menu was extensive. But since I've limited any spirits intake to dining out because of medications, I really wanted one of my favorites. The drink wasn't on the menu but the server indicated that he was sure the bartender would make it. The first drink wasn't mixed to the correct proportions. So when I ordered a second I told the server how to adjust. It came back perfect. We began with Oysters on the Half Shell, Raw of course. The Heirloom House Cocktail Sauce & Seasoning Mignonette were perfect complements. The Oysters were delicious. But I would have preferred them to be local. The Born & Raised in the Deep South in me could not resist the Fried Green Tomatoes with Toasted Pine Nuts, Whipped Boursin Cheese & Peppadew with a Balsamic Reduction. They were "Oh So Yummy". Before we left my house I has already decided on one of the 3 fish entrees. (Think healthy!) So I asked our wonderful server Michael his opinion of each. We learned that there were a few seasonal entrees rotating off the menu soon. But that didn't affect my choice. My South Atlantic Grilled Halibut was served in a Duck Leg Gumbo that included Carolina Gold Rice & Pink Eyed peas. Atop the perfectly cooked filet were strips of Fried Pickled Okra. Heavenly!! We were able to see the Whole Yellowtail Snapper as it was served to a nearby table. That was my son's choice. It had a Thai Chili Glaze with a Cilantro Garnish & was served with Toasted Coconut Rice, Candied Plantains, Carrots & Radish. My son ordered dessert. I decided to forgo the calories. Well.....until I decided to have a spoonful of his Crème Brûlée. It was brought to him with a lit birthday candle, a very nice touch. What was under the candle was the best Crème Brûlée I have ever tasted. The Custard was extremely light with a very thin coating of caramelized sugar. I have to admit to eating half. If you haven't yet tried Heirloom, it's a must do. You won't regret it. What we experienced was perfect Decor, Service, Menu Choices & Food. I love wedge salad and therefore order it most times it's on a menu. This was easily the best I've ever had. The fresh, locally-sourced lettuce was crispy and sweet topped with candied bacon, HOUSE MADE blue cheese (what?!), pickled green tomatoes and red onion. I truly savored every bite. My fiancé had the mahi tico tacos and enjoyed those too, although not as much as I enjoyed my meal. What impressed him most was dessert - another "best I've ever had" dish - the crème brûlée. The caramel sugar on top was packed with flavor. As if their other birthday wishes weren't enough, we also got a "happy birthday" chocolate placed on top with a candle. So fun! Had Birthday dinner here this past Saturday 05/06/23 with my tribe(that's what we call outselves lol). I've been waiting to come here especially for HH but our reservations were for 630p...next time for sure! Loved the restaurants decor it had this upscale rustic vibe to it. There were six of us and we all got ordered drinks, I shared a bottle of Figo Prosecco with my sissy very good Prosecco, made mental note to look for that. We were served amuse bouche of roasted beets. Very tasty and tasted like a really good salsa if your not a beet fan you would not have known. We were then served this cute bowl of mini bread rolls. For appetizers I ordered the soft shell crab appetizer that was served with a mole sauce. I was so excited for this as it's soft shell crab season and this was perfectly fried and seasoned. Other apps were the Heirloom shrimp, Wedge salad and Garden salad. The shrimp were awesome and they wedge salad was so crisp and refreshing. They even split it for us to share with my sister. I ordered the New Zealand lamb chops, everyone else got the Char-grilled Pork chop, Va Mahi Paella, Pesto Tonnarelli and the Soft shell crab dinner. My New Zealand lamb chops were so tender and flavored just right! The carrots and fingerling potatoes were perfect side to my dish. Everyone else enjoyed their dinners, no complaints. Of course while we were waiting we see the Ref Snapper dinner come out to another table and oh my gosh that was so huge and pretty! I definitely want to get that next time for sure! Now on to the desserts. We all got the Creme Brûlée, Lemon Tart and the Birthday girl ordered Strawberry Profiterole with a lite candle!! I loved the bowl of Creme Brûlée, the custard was silky and the sugar crust was perfectly browned. I tried the Lemon tart and while it was good and tart with pinches of Lemon flavor, there were very thin slices of cucumber on it that just did not go well with the rest of the dessert, that's just my opinion. Strawberry Profiterole (basically a giant cream puff) was a hit with fresh strawberries. Our server was attentive to our needs and never once did we have to fill our glasses of Prosecco ourselves. All the staff was just in tune with each other. I highly recommend coming here and am definitely going to go back for that Red Snapper for sure! read more

Parking lot so no issues with parking for us. We made a reservation beforehand but it wasn't too busy for a Friday night. We had a server and someone else who was coming to help fill up water and clear plates but there was some slight miscommunication where they brought out an extra glass of wine when we asked a question about it. We also ordered the Tea & Sympathy cocktail which was very tasty! They had a great wine list. For our appetizers, we orders the Fried Green Tomatoes, Oysters Rockefeller and the Heirlooms "Butterflied" Shrimp. All of it was delicious. The Shrimp was so crispy and had a great flavor in it. Loved the green tomatoes but the peppadew it came with and the whipped boursin cheese were amazing. The Oyster Rockefellers were also quite good! We did order the she crab soup as well. The soup had too much sherry in it and was quite overpowering. For dinner, we ordered the Whole Yellowtail Snapper, the soft shell crab special and the Maple Leaf Farm Pressed Duck Breast. The star of the show was definitely the Snapper. Beautiful presentation and absolutely delicious. The sauce was a tad sweet but overall, my favorite. The duck was good and well cooked but the kale was a little salty. The soft shell crab was well breaded and the salad it came with was a nice balance. They did bring out a May's Parlor Lemon Lavender Cheesecake for my birthday which was also very good. Great Lavender flavor and incorporation and the cheesecake was nice and soft as well. We had some trouble finding our server in the end and it took some time to get the check. Overall, great food and would definitely recommend coming back. Fortunate to live in VB, and still can't eat here enough!! Fine dining with a laid back ambiance. The food is world class and the drinks are abundant and made with care. Couple those with the amazing service, and it's the best restaurant in the area. The owner/chef has created an amazing place. It can get pricey, but worth every penny. We have been here several times. It's a wonderful farm to table neighborhood restaurant. I love how it's closeby and makes for a great date night spot. This occasion we decided to come try out their happy house. We had a table outside and had heat lamps around us. It was a nice sunny day but we did feel the winds since we were in the shade. We ordered from the happy hour menu where you can find a glass of wine for only $4 can't beat that and the burger was only $10 which is a very good burger btw. Dinner was delicious and our server checked up on us several times. He even check in right before happy hour ended to see if we wanted another drink! If you decided to come for dinner one of our favorite dishes is the whole fried fish. It's sooo good. I don't think you can go wrong with anything you order here. It's all very delicious. read more

I came here on two separate occasions. One for a girls night and another for a birthday dinner with my husband. Both times the food, service, and ambiance were fantastic. I feel like this is where all the pretty people in town work and eat. LOL it felt super cute inside and the service was incredible. I will say, you'll need to make reservations in order to grab a spot - but it's totally worth it. Stop in for happy hour to take advantage of the specials. From the moment we walked in, the friendly staff and beautiful modern farm house aesthetic exceeded our expectations. They all told us happy anniversary and had a card on the table. The chef and manager stopped by to check on our experience and food. The food was delicious and impeccable. The flavor combinations were sophisticated but familiar and there was nothing left on any of our plates. From the playful amuse bouche (served by the chef) to the oysters Rockefeller (yum) to the blackened tuna, we were in heaven. Came here for my birthday dinner, and highly recommend! It was super attentive service and the interior is so pleasant and well done. I felt comfortable and it didn't feel "stuffy" at all. From the start, the menu said Happy Birthday at top and they had a card wishing me happy birthday! I liked that they made things personable without being over the top. They brought my dessert with a lovely candle and piece of chocolate printed with Happy Birthday. They started us with a complimentary amuse bouche of cucumber and crispy chicken which was nice. We ordered the pork belly bao appetizer and she crab soup. Both were delicious but I have to hand it to them for an amazing she crab soup! It had a good amount of lump crab and was strong in the sherry flavor... which I loved! It was so so good! For mains, I had to order their fried whole snapper. Husband ordered the tacos, and if you didn't know, they have a kids menu! So our daughter had the chicken tenders with fries. But she did enjoy the pork belly bao! The fried whole snapper was definitely a show stopper! It was so delicious and hubby helped of course. The coconut rice and fried sweet plantains around it were a perfect complement. The fish was nice and flaky with a delicious crust and sauce. Just be careful of bones. We thoroughly enjoyed it and brought home the leftovers. The only odd part of our order were the tacos my husband ordered. It arrived with just 2 tacos. We thought that seemed odd for a main dish. I didn't ask, but I wondered if they thought we wanted the "happy hour" version of the tacos. I would have thought as a main, it would be 3 tacos and not 2. No idea... we ordered it after I placed the fish order for mains, so I would think they'd know we were ordering the tacos off the main menu. Or maybe they really only serve 2 tacos. I didn't look at the bill so I don't know if the price matched the cheaper tacos on the happy hour menu, but if it were the main portion serving, $16 seems pricey for 2 tacos. The happy hour menu tacos were priced at $11. In any case, that was really our only blip and could have been a misunderstanding. Anyways, on to dessert... we ordered the crème brûlée, strawberry profiterole, and the s'mores. All were so good! I would have thought the profiterole would be filled with cream, but I don't think it was. Still very good with the strawberry sauce. And that s'mores dessert was a gorgeous and tasty take on the camp favorite. Overall, we would definitely come here again! Decided to try this spot during restaurant week and boy did we love it! First of all, they have an extensive bar menu, pages and pages of whiskeys, wines, you name it. We ordered off of the restaurant week special menu(though some of the items are on the regular menu). I really enjoyed the crab cakes I got as my entree, but the real shining star of the meal were the desserts! Do not sleep on these desserts! I got the vanilla creme brûlée and it was absolutely heavenly. The chocolate tart and cheesecake were immensely enjoyed by those I dined with. It isn't a cheap place for dinner, but it's a wonderful classy spot for a special occasion. I would describe the vibe and ambiance as dark and moody tropical farmhouse :D But anyways, give it a try! read more
