I usually get my nails done from a place right down the street from here but last time I went they cut me and infected my finger so I was on the hunt for a new place. I found helens which I was iffy about because of the look of the outside but I walked in and they greeted me and I sat right down. I got a women named Lue? Not sure if that's the correct spelling but she got right to my nails and did an AMAZING job. She took her time for my nail shape which I had asked for coffin (seems like a lot of nail places now a days don't know how to do the shape correctly) and made sure I liked it before moving on to the next step. I really appreciated that. The only thing I didn't like is 1. They didn't have a lot of colors to choose from. 2. They like to talk a lot but never to their customers. Would not come here again. Came in for a gel manicure and pedicure and I'm not pleased at all. The method they use to remove the previous color is terrible. I get they're trying to get people in and out but if you're not use to working with that type of nail polish stay away from it. I was left with the previous color still showing and my manicure looked lumpy. The whole callous and sugar scrub is a waste! Don't recommend a product if you're not going to use it properly. Disappointed with Helen's nails. I used to go there for a long time .and I made an appointment. To get my appointment because I know how they are overlap their schedules with people. So Friday I made an appointment to have my nails fixed Saturday 10 spoke to the husband made the appointment I made sure I double called and then he said they're too busy they can take me in, that went to another place to get my nails done. A client of mine recommended the place and I was searching for a permanent nail lady so I figured I'd give this place a shot. I became a repeat customer at Helen's for a few months after a stint at T Nails a few doors down. I started going to Jenny for my acrylic sets with gel polish. She did a good job on my nails. They always lasted 2-3 weeks without the polish chipping. One thing about this place is they love their regular customers! Always asking about their families and making small talk. I would think after investing my money here, I would get the same treatment but it never happened. That was okay though cus I'm not big on the small talk anyway. What eventually drove me away was the damn wait time!!! I would always call ahead to make sure Jenny was free for an appointment. I normally am late to everything but since I know how nail shop wait times can be, I always made an effort to show up at least 10-15 minutes early for my appointment. I'd still end up waiting at least 30-45 minutes before getting in a nail chair! It drove me crazy so I eventually decided to re-start my search for a nail lady. read more

Terrible place. I made an appointment for a full set the day before for 9:30am for my cousin and myself with Helen because from the reviews everyone says she's the best. I get there at 9:30 exactly. Well, she was already working on someone else. The reason I made appointments at 9:30 is because my cousin had to be done by 12:30. Well, Helen was rude and didn't honor our appointment. She told us we had to wait. Finally at 10:30 she was ready. My cousin wanted a simple design on her nails and Helen said she doesn't know how to designs so my cousin told me to go first. For starters, Helen CANNOT DO ANY DESIGNS. Do not even bother asking. So she asked the girl who does the designs and she couldn't do it exactly how I wanted it so I asked for simple black tips. If I wanted a design, it would've been $30 for my nails, to not even look decent. I wanted something cute for Valentine's Day. Second, Helen cut each and every one of my fingers with either her drill or her nail file. She said, "oh you have sensitive skin." No lady. You aren't paying attention to what you're doing. Every finger was bleeding by the time I left. Third; I asked for skinny straight square and didn't get that. I got fat square. Plus the tips she painted on were terribly crooked and it hasn't even been a week and they are already lifting and look terrible. I will never return here. Ever. If I could give zero stars I would. They ok. The little girl working on my feet said she needed to charge extra because she couldn't cut my nail! She said she need the bigger clipper and had to open up a new package. I said ok whatever I need them done! She kept making comments that my feet too hard to work. I says well you're the pro here that's why I come here. Her and her staff are good, friendly people who do their best to provide great services to their customers. They offer spa massage chairs, manicures, pedicures, full sets and waxing. I loved the quality of the work. However they do it by a first comes first served basis regardless of appointments. It's very inexpensive compared to the nail places I have been to, $30 for full set + gel AND chrome. Nancy was quiet but did really pretty work on my nails and she was pretty fast. Almost everytime I get my nails done I get cut or hurt, she did great! None of that what-so-ever. Recomendable but plan ahead, EXTREMELY ahead, because they do take a while to get everyone in. read more

My little sister was getting married in a few days and since it was a DIY wedding and she was from out of town, the schedule was tight, we were running behind schedule, and this place was the only one open so late. We also had our littlest sister who has high functioning autism and loves getting her nails done. I started to write out the whole story but they did so many things wrong it's too long of a review. We ended up walking out before they could even put nail polish on us, and before they could touch our littlest sister and hurt her to the point of a meltdown. They were rude, they didn't listen to us, they were rough and unprofessional during the pedicure and we ended up breaking out, bleeding a little bit, and having ingrown toenails afterwards. Also the salon was very dirty. After they were done with the "spa" part of the pedicure they sent my sister over to another part of the room to wait for polish. I noticed they rinsed off the parts of her foot bath with just water (no soap) and wiped the bath off with a dirty sponge. They did not use plastic liners. It made me sick to my stomach and hope I didn't walk out with some kind of bacteria. We aren't the type of people that usually walk out during something like this... we usually are pretty laid back and just let things happen but this is by and large the worst nail experience any of us have had in our lives. We wanted to be fair so we asked them how much we owed them if we walked out at that point and she told us we still had to pay the full price. We handed her cash and walked out. Luckily, the bride had time to go to another salon the next day. Unfortunately I didn't... that night was my only chance so I had bare nails for my sister's wedding. I'm just glad we left before they could hurt our littlest sister. read more

I just recently visited and I actually had a pretty good experience. I needed a full set last minute on Christmas Eve and they took me right away. They were very nice and had many colors to choose from. I also liked that I only paid 24 dollars and my nails look pretty great! read more

I came in on Wednesday afternoon for a gel manicure and by Friday all of my nails were cracking. I've never had that happen, by yesterday (Saturday) two of my nails have broke. Its unfortunate because I really wanted to like this place. They have a awesome amount of nail colors to choose from but the quality of service is horrible. The reasons why I stopped coming are this: A: every time I showed up, even with an appointment it was always running behind Let's say I had an appointment for 11 A.M., I wouldn't be seen until at least 12:30 P.M. that's totally ridiculous. B: the last time I was there, I received a pedicure. The next day my right baby toe was completely swollen and super infected. I don't know what they did nor do I want to know, I just know it was very infected and it wasn't very pleasant. It was my first time in here this past weekend and I noticed that Helen's has many repeat customers. Helen herself knew everyone BY NAME. That in itself has to tell you that they do a fantastic job. There was a woman in there that brought in her husband and they drove all the way up from San Ysidro to get a pedi at Helen's. When I walked out of Helen's I felt SO MUCH BETTER. I used to go to Helen's all the time. They eagerly welcome you in & seem to get decent business. Despite having really cheap prices, there were several occasions where the tops of my toes/cuticles were scrubbed raw during pedicures (as in skin was missing & later scabbed over). The last time I went was the final straw...I waited 45+ mins to get a pedicure & I ended up with a HORRENDOUS infection on both of my big toes that were so swollen, infected & painful I could hardly walk (I wish I had taken photos but oh well). I was going to wait to review but after this scrub down I just got on my feet!!! Man!! I totally recommend. Kind of a weird place to get your nails did, very "Lemon Grove" You know the whole deal when you feel like the workers are talking about you...that's probably what's happening. i've been on more than one occasion to get a pedicure, and they get the job done for like $12. They take card for payment, they do take appointments...they have a lot of workers, but seems like they can't handle a lot of customers...so it could be a wait for a walk-in. There is literally another nail place next door, lol. It's weird because their spas are these little plug-in foot spas you can get for your home. Don't ever come here to get your eyebrows waxed!! I decided to come here after I was waiting a while at T nails so I came here, boy what a mistake. I've been growing out my eyebrows for more than 6 months so I could get them waxed. I told the lady I just wanted a clean up and honestly I just wanted to cry after she was done. If I could give negative stars, I would. After waiting 45 minutes to get a fill, which I called about before hand, I still didn't get my nails done. There were 3 women working there but only one person getting their nails done. The other two woken were standing around talking on their cell phones. Finally the one woman who was working came and got me and sat me down, started to talk on her cell phone and took nail slippers and my hand and tried to cut my nails off! Are you serious? I pulled my hand away and tried to explain to her that there are my real nails and I just get gel over them to keep them strong. She kept telling me she needed to cut them and put on a tip and grabbed my hand ignoring what I told her. By the way, she was still talking on her cell phone. I pulled my hand away again and started to leave. This place is horrible. No offense to anyone but it seems that if you are white... you will get crappy service here....
