Ordered pick up through ubereats. Ordered the pho with rare steak + beef ball, pho with chicken and chips. The uber eats description for the chips read "Crispy fried potato strips served hot" and in DoorDash it reads as "Crispy Vietnamese-style chips, typically includes a unique blend of local herbs and spices." Both were generated by AI. What I received was a bag of potato chips. Good job, AI. The "rare" steak was packed inside the hot broth. Where other pho restaurants have the rare steak packed separately , you can imagine the steak was over cooked when I started eating it. There was a good amount of meat though and lots of noodles. For the pho ga, they use the same chicken as they do for their banh mi sandwiches. Not a fan as I prefer it boiled for my pho ga. They give lots of sliced white onions and bean sprouts but no Thai basil. Lots of hoisin and siracha packets too, 4 each was given. As for the broth, it's ok. Not the best flavor I've had. read more

Banh mi's here are serviceable, but the real star.... Get the fried pork egg rolls: hands down best in the city, and it's not even close. I had to dissect the sandwich and just eat the bread. What the hell went wrong with this sandwich? Did I get the wrong kind? I ordered the combination and it tasted like layers and layers of cardboard. There wasn't enough pate to make it tasty and the cold meats were flavorless and hard. A basic turkey sandwich is $10.50 at Gus's--a stacked banh mi for $9.25 (in this economy!!) is generous. Walked in at 4pm on a Wednesday and it was super quiet, but I hope it doesn't stay that way! The tofu banh mi I got was flavorful and loaded with goodness, the bread crusty without being too stiff. Just right. It's not the most gourmet thing you'll ever eat, but if you want a fancy banh mi then go to Wooly Pig and get their $15 one, or buy two here for almost the same price. Finally a new banh mi and Vietnamese food shop in the neighborhood! They took over the old nail salon space. They just opened on 9/27/22. When I came by around 4:40pm they said they had sold out of things and to come by the next day, which I did. They are open M-F 9-5pm and may possibly extend to Saturdays. The gentleman taking my order, I assume is the owner was very friendly. We came by around 10am and ordered a special combination banh mi and a grilled pork banh mi. Both at $9.25 each. It looked like mom and sis or wifey was helping out. They also offer a few other Vietnamese dishes such as: egg rolls, fresh spring rolls, vermicelli noodle bowls, pho, salad and drinks. Note this is only for take out, there is no seating area. The special combination only contained 2 kinds of meats and they use store bought mayo rather than homemade. I would've liked more pate in mine, luckily I had some at home to add myself. They have a toaster oven but my bread wasn't toasted, it was cold. The bread itself was ok. Didn't stand out from other banh mi shops in the city. For the grilled pork banh mi, the meat was tender and I liked the marinade. The bread for it was toasty. The owner offered us free soda/water or free chips. We opted for the chips. That was nice. Got the grill chicken banh mi and it was salty and extremely underwhelming. As someone who enjoys banh mi, I would not recommend this place.

They are small for the price, and the bread can't compare to Duc Huong. The jalapeños had a bunch of seeds on them that were hard to dig out of the sandwich so even after I removed them there was still a bunch of spice. Had to take a break and come back to it later. The disappointment came when the lady behind the counter told my order and my money and using the same black gloves to touch every surface and handle money begins making my order. It was a nice surprise! I was walking around the area and was looking for a quick eat. I AM SO HAPPY I found this place. They serve the common classics from rice meals, soups, Vietnamese coffee and of course! Banh Mi. I have been here twice so far within the past month. The pork Banh mi was great! The pickled veggies were crunchy, but could be more vinegar (in my opinion). The pork meat itself was tender and juicy. The bread was warm, toasty outside, fluff inside. Ordered the pork spring rolls, and they were delicious. They did come with a sort of "yum-yum" sauce, which I usually don't get. REQUEST FOR THE NUOC MAM! That fish sauce game with the egg rolls is the only way. Work is piling up? Deadlines getting close? Not enough energy to walk your pup? Get the Vietnamese ice coffee! It's strong and not too sweet! Service? It was fast and they were very friendly! Overall! It's a great spot for a quick good food. It's a pretty good banh mi, but the rent in this neighborhood makes the owners charge twice as much as banh mi should cost. Banh mi shouldn't cost $10. The BBQ pork was pretty good. Yessss finally an excellent banh mi in the neighborhood at an exceptional price! I've only tried the special, but can see it has many marks of a well constructed banh mi: the baguette is crisp but not shrapnel for the mouth, there are at least 4 types of cold cuts used, and at least two sauces, pate and a perhaps mayo based sauce, and from the cross section you can see that there is good balance between the meat vegetable and bread components. The flavor on the pate is nice, not too mineraly, and the bit of fresh cracked pepper really sings. My only critique is that jalapeños should probably be deseeded before use in the sandwich, but that's no problem for spicy lovers. read more

I recommend stronger straws though, the ones they have currently easily break. Boba was good, Al dente as I like to describe my preference, not too chewy and not too soft. The chicken egg rolls are my highlight. Great taste, especially with the sauce they provide. A must try. Similarly, I enjoyed the shrimp spring rolls. I would prefer the peanut sauce to be sweeter though if possible. Other than that, chef's kiss. Special combo banh mi tasted like it was missing something. I love Hello Banh Mi. After recently going through a banh mi tour in the city, Hello Banh Mi is actually the one I find myself craving the most. There's something incredibly moreish about the bread specifically that other banh mi places just don't compare. It's on the crispier side, it's less thick, and it adds to the flavor rather than being just a vehicle for the sandwich ingredients. I love it. I usually get the combination ham and pork roll. Pretty standard fare with meat and veggies. I always pick out the jalapeños because I can only tolerate Taco Bell mild sauce. There is some seating if you want to eat there, but the service and ambiance is all about efficiency, and that's exactly what I want with my banh mi sandwich. read more

So nice to have a solid option for Vietnamese food in the Design District. First visited based off several neighbors' recommendations and haven't been disappointed since. I've had the sardine banh mi, the sweet sardine banh mi, a tofu vermicelli bowl, and the meatball soup (sorry, forgot the actual dish name). Everything was tasty, prepared quickly, and they don't skimp on good quality protein. I'm from SoCal and growing up I've always had authentic $2 banh mi from Orange County. Ever since moving to SF, I feel like I've gone to practically every Vietnamese restaurant in search of a good authentic banh mi. Haven't found one until here. Their combo banh mi is a very authentic Vietnamese sandwich. Love it. Generous portions of meat with different variety. It's important to have the right type of meat and the type of bread used in a Vietnamese banh mi is very important. This place does it right and reminds me of home. I've been to other 5 star places or fancy restaurants in the city where they use super thick sourdough-like bread which is so wrong. I also got the sardine sandwich (or a banh mi ca moi). This one is on the drier side, but the flavor is there. The fact that they even offer this is rare and amazing. The Vietnamese iced coffee is really good as well. There's hazelnut (?) in it. Wish it was just coffee and condensed milk, but it was great. Will be ordering from here more frequently. read more

I got their chicken banh mi and a thai iced tea. Their service was cool, they were really nice. But the food , I've come here multiple times and I keep thinking maybe it'll get better or I'll give them a second chance. Both the banh mi and thai tea was not good. I spent a total of about $17 and I just sat there thinking why is this chicken so bland, dry, and the texture just felt off. Any way I know we don't have many options of food in this area but I'll stay away. The food is solid here! There are a few seats inside but it definitely is a simply decorated place and since it's open mainly around lunch hours I've been ordering for takeout. I've always been pleased with what I've gotten so far. The grilled pork banh mi is delicious, the grilled chicken and shrimp salads are very tasty and fresh as well. I've gotten the milk tea and the Vietnamese iced coffee, both were much sweeter than I anticipated, so the only thing I would request from this place is more granularity in Uber eats ordering for the beverages, in customization ideally, but at the very least with descriptions (sweetness level, type of milk, whether by default there's boba, size).
