The hash browns may have literally the best I've had...I know, but seriously. They were crispy on the top with the soft texture browns beneath. But what out these on top is that each bite was perfectly seasoned without me having to season them. I didn't even dip them in ketchup. Yup that good. The toasted sausage bread was quite unique but tasty. Can't really explain them. Kinda like banana bread IDK but worth the treat. The food was really good. I enjoyed the caramel pecan roll the best. It was soft and sweat. The juicy Lucifer was a good experience that had an explosion of flavors. You will enjoy the ambiance from the moment you descend the stairs to the moment you're finished eating/drinking in one of the impressively-decorated dining/bar areas. HK generally nails the food and drink, too! I often describe it as elevated diner food but that might be underselling the quality a bit. I love the varied menu, healthy sized portions, and creative drinks. Enter this place with a hangover, and it's your own damn fault if it still exists when you leave! :) HK's biggest struggle is with consistency in service. I get the sense that this is just because this restaurant is so large that appropriately staffing it is probably quite difficult. I appreciate that the hosts/servers/bartenders are always pleasant, though! I just wish we didn't have to regularly wait 20 minutes between server check-ins. read more

We're so glad we got to fit in a trip to Hell's Kitchen during our recent trip to Minneapolis! Not to be confused with the Gordon Ramsay chain, this place is a terrific local staple with truly unique Minnesota cuisine. Tip: Definitely make a reservation in advance on Open Table, as this place can get busy on weekends. We probably could have gotten in without a reservation during off hours, but we're still glad we had one. When we arrived, we were seated by an exceptionally friendly staff member, which set the tone for a great experience (staff was wonderful all around). We started our meal out with the sausage bread as an appetizer (one of the more quirky dishes that you'll see mentioned in multiple reviews). The comparisons to a savory raisin toast are probably the most accurate of the descriptions I've read. Strangely enough, I didn't really taste the sausage, but it was still very yummy. The fact that it lists coffee as an ingredient almost scared me off (I hate coffee), but I didn't find it to be an overwhelming coffee flavor thankfully. Definitely get it with the housemade peanut butter and the marmalade on the side, as they both add a nice sweetness to the dish! For my main dish, I got the Jucy Lucifer and my husband got the French Dip. Both were great - but I have to say, if you're in town and haven't yet gotten a Jucy Lucy from anywhere, this is a perfect spot to get one! Cheese was perfectly hot, delightfully messy, and just what I was hoping for. I even enjoyed the mixed greens that I got on the side (the dressing was wonderfully spicy!). Fun atmosphere! This is not Gordon Ramsey's Hells Kitchen as we thought it was at first. It was cool, casual and funky. Our favorite was the absolutely amazing chili on their menu- probably the best I've ever had!! We had the lemon ricotta pancakes, which were good, not overly lemon-y but fresh and delicious, the juicy Lucifer burger with a toasted bun- reminded me of an In and Out burger from the west coast, and their unique coffee/sausage bread with their homemade peanut butter and jelly which was interesting to try. I visited Minneapolis for work a few years ago and took myself out for lunch here one afternoon. I honestly don't remember what my entree was, just that it was very good (yes, it was a few years ago but I had this review drafted for a while!). But honestly, all you need to know can be summed up in just two words: Sausage bread. You have to try the sausage bread! To be quite honest, I wouldn't have thought I'd ever want to try it, because why would I? Thankfully I got over my initial skepticism because wow. It was so delicious! This is a hard review to write since this restaurant has so many positive reviews. Plus, the hotel's guest service agent had given this restaurant a great rating. I stopped in late afternoon for a quick bite. The host advised me the restaurant is closed for a private event, however, the bar is still being served. There were about six people at the bar so I was able to grab a stool. The bartender gave me the menu and took my drink order. I decided on the Grilled Cheese meal with substitution of Tator Tots. Few minutes later, the meal was dropped off. The tots were almost cold. The bartender had disappeared for quite awhile. I was finally able to let know about the tots. He responded, "It's just going to be a few minutes." I finally got the new tots about 10 minutes later. By that time, I was almost done with the grilled cheese. Granted, they gave a full plate of tots, by that time, the damage has been done and I was ready to leave. Overall, it was an okay experience. My BFF and I booked a night at W- Foshay (in another review), and decided to grab food at Hell's Kitchen. We didn't want Manny's because we didn't want steak, so Hell's Kitchen it is. The location was underground, a little hidden if you're new to the area. The theme and decor was a little confusing to be honest. I wasn't sure why it was called Hell's Kitchen to begin with. I was expecting all sorts of spicy foods. Lol! But anyway; we ordered some cocktails which I thought was wayyyy too strong for my taste. I also ordered the Walleye Bites for Appetizers and it was good. For the entree, I ordered the Shrimp Linguine Scampi and my friend ordered the Shepard's Pie. I was not impressed with the Shrimp Scampi. It was bland and had no taste to it. I was expecting more I guess. The sauce had no seasoning at all. Overall, I just wasn't impressed with this place. I came here to try their famous lemon ricotta pancakes for brunch. I LOVE lemon ricotta pancakes and had some amazing ones on the west coast so I figured it would be fun to try them out here. The flavor wasn't as good as I was expecting. The flavor tasted artificial and the pancakes were pretty flat, not fluffy like many other pancakes. The ricotta flavor wasn't really there either. My husband got the huevos rancheros and those were good, but not anything special. I feel like something is missing in this place and I can't tell what! I was bummed because I really wanted to like it. However, the atmosphere wasn't bad - it was rustic and in the basement of the building. We had a reservation and were seated quickly. Service was great and attentive. And they had live music too! Also, side note - this is not the same "Hell's Kitchen" by Gordon Ramsay. It's a separate restaurant. Holy damn this is an excellent place to eat. I've never been so pleasantly disappointed! Arrived thinking it was Gordan Ramsay's place. Nope. Local joint opened 20 years before his concept. Didn't have high hopes after our hopes were dashed but ordered what sounded good. Started with one of the best Bloody Mary's I've had. Nicely spicy without going overboard, it comes with a beef stick that added some zing and a salty rim. First up was the loaded baked potato soup. Do it. Get it. Huge chunks of potato, bacon and fresh scallions topped with a dollop of sour cream. Delish. We split the grilled ham sandwich with Havarti cheese and pear and the crispy chicken sandwich. Thumbs up to both. Lots of attention to detail in the ham sandwich. The Havarti cheese was grilled first, then the ham and pears added before the whole thing got grilled. Came with enough tots to feed three people and a great dipping sauce. The chicken sandwich comes with a spicy mayo and fresh lettuce, tomato, red onion and pickle. Add it all on the sandwich and take a big bite. Flavors explode everywhere. The chicken was crispy and piping hot. Contrasted nicely with the cold fresh veggies. Service was excellent. A 15% gratuity is automatically added to your bill (this is clearly posted on the menu) and we tipped extra. This is an employee-owned restaurant and it shows. I would give it three stars, but the lemon ricotta pancakes were enough to bring it to a four! They were fluffy, light, and had the perfect amount of lemon flavor in it which was nicely complemented by a generous serving of berries on top. The hash browns as well as the blackberry ginger jelly were good, but the scromlette was just average. The restaurant is located in a basement which makes sense because of the name, but makes the atmosphere not as enjoyable. It was a cold day, which I guess is a regular day in Minneapolis, so a hot burger sounded like a thing to do. Everyone here is super friendly. There is no cell reception in this downstairs restaurant, but they have fast Wi-Fi for guests. I went with the juicy Lucifer. They warn you about the molten cheese inside, and they're not kidding. I thought I had left it long enough for the cheese to cool down and my first bite proved me wrong. It wasn't that bad though. I waited another minute and it was perfect. The burger is so flavorful and the cheese inside probably tastes the same as cheese on the top, but it's a fun experience and it's really well-made. read more

This is a restaurant themed from the show Hell's Kitchen; it has a lot to live up to. There were many items on this menu that seemed appealing....I selected the Prime Rib French Dip....the menu outlines how this is no ordinary French Dip & how the prime rib is slow roasted to perfection....hard to resist to be honest. The presentation of the dish was very appealing. It included a side of coleslaw as well. Overall it was tasty, but if I'm being honest nothing special as far as French Dip sandwiches go. The environment was unique, its downtown. The entrance is technically street side, but then you head down a set of steps to get into the actual restaurant. It's decor is thought-out to provide a certain vibe about it.....it succeeds, but would be difficult to explain.....it tried to be abrasive and elegant all at once....somewhat like the show.....plenty of room at the tables for dining, one does not feel cramped here. Bottom line- it feels like one of those places you should give a try....but in my experience it was more hype than anything....still a decent lunch. read more

Hell's Kitchen is in no way connected to the T.V. show btw... Even though this is a sit down restaurant, it's super causal. It has a bar-type vibe. They had old Tom and Jerry episodes on the projector screen so that added to the causal environment. Plus, they have breakfast all day so there will be something for everyone. The hubs and I ordered the MN icon state fair cheese curds and MN icon ham and pear crisp sandwich. The food came out extremely fast. The wait time to dine in was about 10 to 15 mins around 4 PM on a Sat. The cheese curds looked almost like tater tots when both came out at once. These were different than other fried cheese type foods I've had. The curds were pretty light and fluffy. When you bite into it, it's not dense at all. These were a little oily, but they're cheese that's fried so what else can be expected. The ham and pear crisp sandwich was different. It's basically a pressed ham and cheese sandwich with a few slices of pear. I found it to be okay and while the hubs pondered about whether he liked it or not. We subbed the usual side of either fries, potato chips, or greens for tater tots for $1.50 more. They def give you a lot of tots. Too bad there wasn't more pear in the sandwich though. I opted for the All-American with Bison Maple Glazed sausage patties... I wasn't to thrilled with those patties as they seemed a bit dry and had an odd taste. The rest of my breakfast was delicious though all the way down to the jam. My friend had the Bison Benny's and loved those. We found out that you can get a half order of the Lemon Ricotta hot cakes and took advantage of that. These are delicious, light fluffy and just plain tasty and I love berries, so I rate these very highly. And then there is the Bloody Mary Bar as well as the Mimosa Bar... go for it, you won't regret it. One of my guests had the Bloody Mary bar and I opted for Mimosa. You will get a drink ticket and the alcohol part of your choice. Then you take that to the do it yourself bar. An attendant will help you get started. You get to pick what type of rim you would like and also what kind of juice. Read the review on this place and was excited to try it out. Easy to walk to if you're staying bear the Dtown area. It's a big restaurant that can accommodate a lot of people. We got: Huevos rancheros - it has a different taste to it then I've had before. I thought it was just ok. Got it with sausage. A lot of flavor in this dish but for some reason they did not blend well together. I thought the flavor was a bit overwhelming. Bison Benedict's - the bison was salty but over all not bad. Perhaps we have different taste bud. Overall I did not think the food was that good and Considering the high review- it was not what I had thought. Customer service was exceptional and helpful. OK, so I was unaware that Hell's Kitchen served breakfast until I saw it on the sign while out running. Once I learned there was a breakfast burrito on the menu, to quote the immortal Bill Paxton, "Game over man." We had to make a return visit to this lovely basement food & drink spot. The caramel pecan roll was thoroughly decadent, my girl loved the All American breakfast, and the Fredo's Breakfast Burrito was a glorious menagerie of eggs, potatoes, fajita veggies, and bison sausage. Reeeee-diculously good. I don't know when we will be in Minneapolis again, but count Hell's Kitchen as a fave of ours from now on. To add to the greatness, we learned that it is employee-owned. The demand for a table here is very high and I can see why. Really glad I grabbed a reservation because there was no shot getting in otherwise. The setting is really well lit. I will say that after an hour or so it can be hot and overwhelming because it is in the basement. So hydrate or take a walk. Service was pretty solid. The cheese curds for an appetizer were outstanding. As good as anything I had living in Wisconsin. I got the bison flank heuvos for dinner. I wish I just ordered a plate of the bison because it was incredible. The egg dish itself was decent but I've had better. I'm just hard to please there. When we sat down, we told the waitress we had a show at one. We were seated at 11:45am, and sat down and ordered drinks and breakfast. The food did not arrive until 12:30. For the amount of awards and number of reviews this place has, I didn't think the food was so amazing. I had the huevos rancheros and tried the buffalo Benedict and neither really impressed me. My huevos rancheros felt like it had separate parts to it where the flavors didn't blend together well, or at all. The potatoes tasted especially bland. The Benedict wasn't impressive either as the steak was chewy and some bites were salty and some bites were bland as if not seasoned. Came here tonight for dinner. Had a reservation but probably didn't need one as it wasn't super busy. I love the decor and the display of pride flags. Not sure if they are always up or if it was just for pride month but either way loved the show of support. We ordered the deviled eggs and they were good but I think my homemade ones are better. We ordered the state fair cheese curds and the spicy red pepper jelly was really good with the perfect amount of sweet and spice. You can even buy some to take home. My husband got the warm green grain bowl with Chicken Tinga which he really enjoyed. I got the original power salad which was delicious. The food is excellent. We stuck with their signature dishes for breakfast, lemon ricotta pancakes (I recommend you just skip the syrup all together) and the huevos rancheros with bacon (omg, I could eat this all day long). Two dishes on completely opposite sides of the breakfast spectrum but both equally amazing. Wish I lived closer so I could eat here more often. This place!! So, I watch a lot of food network, it's really the only TV channel I can remember. Eating here makes me feel like I'm on it. Everything is pleasing to eat AND fun to look at. I kept eyeing the mimosa bar drinks at the table next to me so I'll for sure be jumping in on that next time I'm here on a weekend. It's weird because it's in a basement but the place seems themed and it's kind of fun to be secluded from the neighboring businesses. I tried the tomato bisque with a grilled cheese (simple) but it tastes great with my pomegranate Moscow mule. Everyone in my fam loved what they ate and said they'd get it again, so I took photos of them all! I had a really really tough time deciding between breakfast and lunch food but the lemon ricotta pancakes my grandma got seemed to be the star of our table. Next time for sure.
