I have had Hennen's a few times and every time the food has been great. Tonight however was an exception. I had the ribeye and there was a ridiculous amount of fat and gristle in it. I literally couldn't chew it. It was like chewing a steak flavored piece of bubble yum! So I gave my dog the rest of it and she normally chews twice and swallows, but no not this steak. I went back five minutes later and she was still chewing it! My wife had the filet and it was amazing. My advice is go with the filet! read more

I am blown away with how amaziing my experience was! My Husband and I were reminiscing our visits and realized that we never have had a bad one. While we ate we realized that we had not been to Hennens for about 5 years and felt it was even more satisfying.! Our service was fantastic, food superb, no really. Good service, good food, excellent wine selection. They have never failed yet. From the burgers to the steaks, always on target. Great for romantic dinner or business dinner. Quiet ambiance with an informed and prompt wait staff. You could easily spend $100 on two people with appetizers, entree, and drinks, but worth it for the experience and quality. Went for dinner two weeks ago. Made a reservation ahead and when we arrived we were seated promptly. Waiter (Gus) was excellent, recommended the calamari for an appetizer and it did not disappoint. We got the Feta Chicken and Short Ribs and each were delicious. Very attentive to detail, salads served on a cold plate with a cold fork, coffee was served in a hot mug. Just got back from a night out with my wife for our anniversary. Let me say that the staff if very friendly. The hostesses, our waiter and (unfortunately) the manager were all very, very friendly. The food was also very good. I had the filet and my wife had the tortellini. I have had some expensive steaks and this one was one of the better ones (and reasonably priced) that I have ever had. I was very satisfied with the food. The unfortunate part is that it took a long time for us to get in and out. Reservation was at 8, got seated early and had someone getting our drinks and explaining the menu within a couple minutes. We placed our order for appetizers and they made it out while we were ordering our main course. After that it went downhill. It took until 8:30 for my wife to get her margarita (after I asked the waiter to check on it) and it was shortly after 9pm when we got our food. Our waiter gave us a heads up about 5 min before the food came out and he apologized and told us the manager would come out and talk to us about how they did not meet their standard of service. As stated, the manager followed the food and was apologizing for the delay. He even comp'd our dessert (creme brulee, which was great BTW). To sum it up, the food was great as expected for a place in this price range. I will probably go back and give them another chance on the service time issues. Luckily we were not in a hurry to get anywhere and didn't have another engagement to get to afterwards. Hopefully next time the service time will be better and we will get a seat away from the kitchen and any parties of 6 women having too much wine. We have ordered hundreds of ribeye steaks in our lives, and never had one quite as good as the Delmonico here at Hennen's. We also enjoyed the crab cakes and lobster bisque. The atmosphere was romantic and classy, the service was top notch, and the menu offers many great selections. Today on Mother's Day was my sixth visit to Hennings during our 4 years in Chattanooga. In the past I rated our restaurant at four stars with almost a fifth star based on great food, excellent service and a very decent wine selection. Today was an exception and the reason for a two star rating. When I got there about 10 minutes before reservation time, we had to wait even though there were tables open. We were told on the phone made and during their confirmation call - they were booked until 8 PM. By the time we were about to exit at 3:15 PM about half the tables were without diners. Now to the food - we had a flatbread with goat cheese and pears which was at best mediocre, lobster bisque which arrived at about the time we were about to finish our main entrée and speaking of the entrées - the fried chicken and biscuit was according to our granddaughter outstanding, our daughters salmon salad with the fish being underdone, my wife and I having prime rib which at spots was actually cold. Overall just not the best I expected. In the past I had steaks at dinners including two anniversaries which were superior to any other steakhouse in town, so I was expecting this same quality. The menu for Mother's Day had much fewer items from typical dining experiences and pricing was not outrageous. We are planning to go back at some point for a dinner at a time that is not a holiday hoping the quality and variety return. read more

Went to Hennen's today for my birthday dinner... We have been wanting to try it for some time now and it did not disappoint... We had a reservation for 6:30PM on Saturday and were seated promptly after our arrival even though they were quite busy... Unfortunately our table was close to the front door and it was quite chilly what with the constant traffic of diners arriving and leaving... We asked our wait person Kristy if she would see if she could find a different table for us... She said she would try, but told us due to the busy hour, it may be difficult to do... Well shortly thereafter, the assistant manager Amanda arrived with Kristy and told us she had another table for us... Both Amanda and Kristy were quite polite and pleasant and we were promptly moved to another table in the rear of the restaurant which was quite nice and out of the draft of the front door... My wife then ordered the Red Snapper and I had the Pan Seared Scallops both of which were quite delicious... I did have to send my dinner back to the kitchen for a warm up but other than that dinner was fine (I like hot food when it's supposed to be hot) ... The goat cheese plate appetizer was tasty as was the Caesar salad and the Amaretto Cheesecake dessert was to die for... In addition to the great food here, the wait staff and management are to be commended on their level of service... They all went out of their way to accommodate our needs and were very polite and pleasant which made for a very pleasant birthday evening which could have otherwise been a disaster... Kudos to Peter, the manager whom we spoke to and offered our thanks as well as Amanda, the assistant manager who managed to re-seat us on a very busy Saturday evening and also to our servers Kristy and Abby who both did a superb job... We will be back another day to sample more of the delicious food at Hennen's!!! read more

We chose Hennen's for their high reviews for our first date night in months. However, we were not impressed. Although we were late (traffic on interstate and major crowding downtown) they graciously seated us. Our waiter brought out 2 waters - had no clue lipstick was given out for free. We nicely told him there was lipstick on the cup and he removed it from our table bringing back a clean cup. We ordered Jameson on the rocks and a Moscato wine for myself. Ordered our food (NY Strip w/mashed potatoes and asparagus) (cheese tortellini with asparagus, mushrooms, tomatoes). Mine was good (not great) but good. There was more olive oil in my bowl than probably left over in there bottle...my husband steak was HARD. He ordered it rare. It was cooked to perfection still very red in the middle however he tried to cut it with a steak knife and couldn't. He didn't even eat half of a $30 steak. His mashed potatoes were great...and the asparagus wasn't prepped correctly so the base was still very white at the bottom so therefore it was hard. He ordered another Jameson-this time the glass was smaller but we paid the exact same price. A kitchen staff picked up his plate and after walking away from the table he turns and says would you like me to box this for you sir? My husband said no I'm done with it. The kitchen staff never questioned him just turned and walked away. He ended up eating some of my meal just to satisfy him. Needless to say we will not be back to Hennen's and if asked by friends or families we will NOT RECOMMEND. Our meal total was $100.00. We intended to spend more however after the steak we were done trying things on their menu. Basically we got, a steak that was not even half eaten, hard asparagus, and a bowl of olive oil. read more

We ate here to celebrate our 15 year anniversary. The service was excellent! I had the Filet and it was cooked to perfection! (medium rare of course!) I had the mashed sweet potatoes (not on the menu but normally part of another dish) and they were like dessert! The roasted mushrooms were great as well! My wife had the shaved prime sandwich and loved it! The wilted collard greens were okay, but hey, they're collard greens, how good can they be? Last night we had such a terrible time that it has stuck with me to this morning. Our waitress could not be more bothered to wait on us. She was more concerned with the latest gossip with the other waiters, smoking in the private room, and playing with her disgusting long hair that was EVERYWHERE. I know Hennens is a very reputable restaurant and I was so sad that we had such a terrible time because I was so looking forward to eating there. But the waiter Riley (I believe that was her name) was this young teen that should be serving at a much more casual restaurant. Like chili's would be great for her. A rare treat in restaurants, as I have yet to have a meal at Hennen's that's anything less than unique and exceptional. The wait staff is always friendly and enthusiastic about the meals, and well prepared and knowledgable about their dishes and selections. Their soups are superbly and appropriately flavored. Two of my favorites are Lobster Bisque and Cajun Gumbo. Hennen's offers the second best steak I've had in Chattanooga, but out-rates every other establishment I've enjoyed due to the fine quality of all their meals, their terrific wait staff and easy atmosphere. There is no place in Chattanooga I'd rather eat, and our family enjoys Hennen's exclusively for all of our celebrations. Don't miss this place! read more

It actually pains me to give 2 stars, as our experience was just awful. I work here in Chattanooga a lot, so I'm faced with trying to eat out on a relatively decent budget, and keep a healthy lifestyle. Hennen's seemed like the perfect choice, and actually had been recommended by a few people, so I felt confident in my choice. First of all, we had the calamari and crab cakes for starters. The calamari was tiny pieces of shaved meat, in a light batter, served with a sweet chili dipping sauce. The calamari was overcooked, and seemed like there were more pieces of fried batter than there was calamari! We were disappointed, but moved on to the very room temperature crab cakes- mostly breading. It was hard to decipher between whether they were salmon, crab, or fish, bc they were so "fishy" tasting, and very little meat at all in them. Although these appetizers were unimpressive, we were still positive about our entree selection. I chose the salmon, cooked to be medium, to medium well. It came out medium rare, and cool to the touch. I didn't eat hardly any of it. My boyfriend was served the 8oz filet with 2 scallops. He liked the filet "ok", and it was cooked just to his specification of "medium". His scallops were again, room temperature, and very mushy, and "fishy" tasting. My favorite thing enjoyed at this restaurant was the free bread, and the homemade butter. I will not be visiting this restaurant again, even though my hotel shares the same street with it. read more

Hennen's is in a great location right near the Residence Inn, the Aquarium and Hunter Museum. We made our reservations on Opentable although it wouldn't have been a problem to be seated as it was Monday night. And...I was super happy to find a nice restaurant open on a Monday night! We were seated in one of the upholstered booths near the kitchen and it was nice and quiet, but fun to watch the plates go by to help us make some choices. We had a free coupon for an appetizer and chose the fried shrimp and each had a cocktail. I ordered a "slightly dirty Absolut Martini with olives-shaken" and my husband ordered a "Hendrick's Gin and Tonic", both were absolutely delicious...and we ended taking our time with our lightly cornmeal crusted tender shrimp and aioli sauce, and having a second cocktail. Watching the dinner plates being carried by was super fun as one always feasts with their eyes first...and we both would have ordered the seared scallop atop steak if we weren't already planning on a steak dinner Wednesday! That also must have been a special as it isn't on the menu. Our waitress, Sarah, was absolutely lovely. We really enjoyed talking about Chattanooga and the Southeast with her, and she was a great help with the menu and being sure to get our orders prepared just the way we wanted. We like to split dishes and spend a couple hours over dinner, so it was great to not feel rushed or have our dishes all arriving before we were wanting them. She even offered to just bring us an extra plate so we could divide our entree without the $4 charge...but we both wanted it done in the kitchen. (What a deal!) For our salad we split the Baby Spinach Salad ($10) It was a nice combination of sweet and nutty with dates, goat cheese, spiced walnuts and pears with a light vinaigrette. We each ordered a glass of wine (they have a great wine list. Being from CA we were familiar with a lot of the CA wines and really impressed by some of the more obscure wines they offered). We spent quite a bit of time talking with the wine buyer, Jonathan--who may also have been a manager?, who was really charming and easy to talk to. For our entree we chose one of their specials. A rock seared Black Bass served over a bed of smashed fingerling potatoes in a mustard seed sauce that was delicious. It sounds weird to say this, but it tasted like fish, but wasn't fishy. So often I like fish because they don't even taste like fish...as in usually that's a bad thing. But it was tender and savory. The sauce on the potatoes had the right amount of tang. I would definitely recommend Hennen's if you are in the Chattanooga area. Great drinks, food, service, ambiance and reasonably priced for a terrific meal. read more

After a visit to the fabulous Tennesee aquariumI walked across the street for dinner to Hennens. The restaurant had a nice minimalist atmosphere and great service. Incredible calamari with a ginger aioli (yum), I also enjoyed the poached pear and blue cheese flatbread with the baby spinach salad. The good food and southern hospitality was complimented by a great cocktail - I highly recommend the raspberry lemonade! For me, the next trip to the TN aquarium is synomous with a trip to Hennens! read more
