The restaurant is very appealing, indoors and outdoors. It is beautifully appointed and sparkling clean, including the restrooms. Also, some effort seems to have been put into noise abatement, perhaps the ceiling treatment helps in that regard. Happy hour is delightful! Small glasses of beer are $3.00. And the appetizer menu offers a nice selection at discounted prices. The wait staff are all friendly and extraordinarily attentive. With just two of us, we did not have a large sampling of the food. We very much enjoyed the crispy chips and fresh salsa which came at no extra charge and was replenished. We found the steak tacos to be tender and tasty but we were distracted by an over-abundance of raw diced onion. We picked out as much as we could. The empanadas de camaron were not to my liking. I am sure they are probably authentic Oaxacan, but I could not eat that quantity of breading. I removed the lovely, little shrimps and at them with just a bit of the breading which was, in fact, very tasty. The corn and mango chutney would have been delicious, but again, the delicate flavors were overwhelmed by the raw onion. Kudos to our darling server who noticed I had removed most of the breading from the empanadas. She notified the chef who then came to out table and insisted on giving me a replacement dish. He brought me the quesabirria with birria dipping sauce. My Goodness! Delicious! 5 stars for that! Next visit I will order the quesabirria with a side salad with vinegar and oil dressing. The only reason this place gets two stars is because the food was actually pretty good. We came for my birthday and there was only one waitress working. I felt so bad for her and she was having to wait on like 11 tables. Our food took forever and it all came out at different times. We weren't even asked if we could get refills on water and I don't blame her because again she was having to deal with so many other tables. This location always seem to be changing to something new. It was last Flights, and now it's a new Mexican restaurant/bar. Not sure if the service I experienced is representative of how service usually is here, but it was pretty lacking. Once the waiter took our order, I never saw him again except when he arrived with the bill. I had to flag down other people for water refills, and even that was a challenge. He said it was just his second day of working there, so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. The good news for them is that they were PACKED with a decent line out the door, but they were also seemingly short staffed. The enchilada plate was fine. On par with what you'd find at most Mexican restaurants. I liked the Sope Trio better. The sopes themselves was really good and held up well without getting soggy at all. The toppings were just ok. Interestingly, I ran into friends eating there who said they were served a plate of cold food and weren't happy. The ambiance is fun and lively. The good: -They have a daily HH until 6pm, with many drinks food discounted by $2-$4. -Their shrimp ceviche (available during HH) is fresh, flavorful and a nice big portion. I'm not a huge fan of the chips that come with it, but you can use your free chips for dipping. -Their free salsa is delicious. -The consome that comes with the birria tacos was very delicious. -Their spiced apple margarita was good This needs more work: -Our server, who happens to also be the host, was nice but very slow at times. That's understandable his dual job, but there were other waiters working which probably should have taken our table. He also didn't seem to know the menu and looked confused when we ordered our drinks. -The chips they served were super stale and were not the colorful kind you see in other pics. Maybe a bad night? - Do not order the watermelon margarita. This has to be one of the worst cocktails I've ever had. Not only did it have ZERO watermelon flavor, it actually tasted so bad we had to send it back. -On their website, it shows the quesabirria tacos for $14, but at the restaurant I was charged $19. The drinks and cocktails are consistently good. The food has been mixed. There are some items that were very good (quesobirria tacos, taquitos) and some which were meh (chicken mole, enchiladas). Service was also a little mixed. I am sure it is because they are new and settling into their system. Dulce who was our waitress the first time was great. From talking to the waiters, it sounds like this restaurant is a labor of love for the Chef/owner. They have everything to be successful and I wish them the very best. We have been to Hercules at least 8+ times in the last year and a half, often in large groups (10+). Our last and final visit saw many implemented nickel and dime charges and left a lot to be desired. Want extra salsa for your meal? $2 More chips and salsa for the table? $6 More chips? $3. Quantity wise, you're also getting less food for the same money. I get inflation, but then raise your prices to reflect the inflation instead of offering less (I'm talking to you Quesabirria tacos that used to be three(3) and are now just (2)). There are so many nice options out there for Mexican food that we will no longer be returning. Shame! read more

Our server was friendly but not very attentive, after sitting for about 15 minutes without a check-in, I ended up getting up and walking over to ask for more water. Not a huge deal, but definitely not ideal. The tacos were the highlight of the meal. They were flavorful and well-prepared, though I'd say they were priced a bit higher than what you get. Still, if you're willing to pay a little extra, they're worth a try. The beans, on the other hand, had a very watery consistency, which was a bit odd. Maybe that's intentional, but it wasn't to my taste. The interior of the restaurant is nicely done, warm lighting, thoughtful decor, but unfortunately, the temperature inside was freezing. It honestly felt like dining in Antarctica. I found myself wishing I'd brought a jacket, which isn't the vibe I'm usually going for at dinner. I love this place! This is my third time here and thought it was about time I wrote a review. Hercules is a great restaurant for delicious tacos and drinks! It's pretty easy to find parking in the parking lot behind the restaurant. The severs are very friendly and add to the great atmosphere. I usually get the tacos, but this time I got the enchilada plate and it was superb. I also ordered a margarita, which was very light and refreshing. Our meal was just ok! The carnitas tacos were flat and covered with melted cheese and looked more like a tostada than a taco. They were very messy to eat as a lot of liquid from the meat squeezed out down your arm when trying to pick them up and eat them! Flavor was ok. The shrimp tacos were good and tasty. We came during lunchtime and they didn't have a bartender so I couldn't get a mixed drink only something from a bottle or can. I love to come here when I am up in saratoga for school. Some of the absolute best carne asada tacos i have ever had. Friendly service and quick wait times, and a fantastic draft selection and cocktail list. Personally, I am a big rum guy, and they only offer three rums: bacardi, captain morgan, and plantation, all for 12$. the difference between plantation and the other two is vast, and 12$ is a hefty price for all three, especially the first two well liquors. This is the only negative I have about this place at all, no other complaints. The price of the tacos is a great deal but the rest of the food you are definitely paying for quality. It was easy to grab a table for a Saturday dinner. Lots of parking in the lot behind the restaurant. Food (4/5): I enjoyed my pozole but a lot of the pork was fatty chunks. Excluding me, everyone else at the table felt that their portion sizes were on the smaller size. Free chips and salsa at the start of the meal! Service (3/5): It was fine but nothing to rave about. We seemed to wait for a while for our waiter, even though the place wasn't busy. He forgot what my friend ordered and had to come back to ask (but at least he did confirm!). I did appreciate that he asked if I wanted a box to go when he came with the check. Ambiance (5/5): The decor is on point! I love the light-up taco sign by the door and all the plants.
