The orange inflamed flan has a beautiful cheese like texture and the Carmel sauce was phenomenal. My friends and I had a fantastic dining experience at Herencia for dinner on Saturday evening. We were greeted warmly by the hostess, who opened the door for us as we were approaching, and then the charming owner, Henrique, came up to greet us as well. What a lovely way to begin our dining adventure! The restaurant is beautifully decorated with colorful murals on the walls and fresh flowers on the table. Our waitress was attentive and knowledgeable, she knew the wine list and answered all of our questions about the menu. My friend and I really enjoyed the Mexican red wine, which was light and refreshing and a perfect compliment to the cuisine. We started with the signature fresh made Caesar salad at table side, prepared by Henrique, and we all agreed it was the best Caesar salad we ever had. We ordered the camarones entree and chicken mole and everything was outstanding. The shrimp were perfectly cooked and I loved the butter garlic sauce, served on the side for dipping. The vegetables were roasted to perfection and so flavorful, and the rice had a delicious herbaceous seasoning. I tasted my friend's chicken mole and I will have to order that next time- it's a real delicacy and this one was superb. We finished the evening with an amazing pecan flan, delicate, creamy and delicious ~ I highly recommend! New place for us to try. It's only been open for 2 weeks. New places tend to be hit or miss. We were seated in a booth and instead of the usual chips & salsa we received a plate with their warm heirloom tortillas(much different flavor) with 3 salsas - tomatillo, 3 pepper & ranchero. As expected the 3 pepper is the hottest. Small menu with a lot of choices. Our choice was 2 orders of the Crab Enchiladas. Lunch had nice presentation, rice small portion & moist. Veggies were lightly sautéd and still crisp. The enchiladas were topped with a nice amount of cream sauce. They weren't smothered with enchilada sauce or red or green chile. It was a light meal. Enrique, the owner stopped by the table to insure everything was good and explained the recipes come from Guadalajara, Mexico City & Mazatlán areas. After an excellent meal we topped it off with a Pecan Flan. It came served in slices, topped with a thick caramel sauce with fruit and whipped cream on the side. It was a great ending to our meal. Our service was as excellent as the meal. Be prepared - they bill themself as upscale Mexican food. It is & menu prices reflect it. But as I say frequently great food is expensive. Herencia needs quality control and better customer service. The ensalada de invierno that I ordered had no jicama. When I asked the server about this, she simply said they were out of jicama. In that case, she should have told me in advance so that I could order something else. She didn't even offer to reduce the price or better yet, remove the salad from my bill since the kitchen did not prepare the salad as it is described on the menu. Something similar happened with the pork dish I ordered. The menu says that the dish includes fresh vegetables, but instead I was served cold pickled vegetables. Herencia needs to stop engaging in this "bait-and-switch" service, which is very disrespectful to its customers. read more

Very creative and authentic Mexican cuisine based on family recipes. The Chef/Owner personally made a table side Caesar salad with a very artistic touch. I had the lobster enchiladas and they were delicious. Save room for the flan dessert and the bread pudding. Everything is gluten free! Most importantly is the pride of the menu and the carefully picked family recipes. It's hard to find truly authentic recipes and Mexican recipes some over 100 years. Being native Mexicans we have been scared to try "authentic" Mexican food in New Mexico however we left this establishment pleasantly surprised. The salsa in the complimentary chips and salsa were delicious. To start we ordered the Queso Panela which was so good. Then, as mains we got the bacalao and the tenderloin medallions. So so good. Will for sure be coming back. On a side note, the restaurant is so nicely decorated. I want to rave about the bathrooms specifically!!! They are so clean and nicely decorated. It also smells very nice when you go in there and honestly for a restaurant I think that is extremely important. You can tell a lot of thought went into it, and a lot of work goes into keeping them clean. Overall amazing, including the service. Our server was very nice and attentive. WOW!!! This kitchen knows how to build layer upon layer of flavor! We were treated first thing to a salsa trio with warm, soft heirloom corn tortillas. All three salsas were fabulous, and the red mole stood out for its complexity and depth. This set the tone of what this place is all about-- a celebration of Mexican heritage and authentic cuisine. Our waiter and the owner were both very attentive throughout our visit. We ordered a nice rioja from their well curated wine list. The murals on the wall were beautiful, enhancing our experience with warm colors and tropical vibes. I ordered the carne en su jugo, a delicious Mexican City style beef and bean stew with melt in your mouth meat, crispy bacon, roasted onion, avocado, and served with many different accompaniments... Lime, onion, cilantro, multiple salsas and mole, and a warm flavorful broth. Each bite was a new adventure, trying different combinations to layer even more flavor on an already deliciously complex stew. More of those earthy hearloom corn tortillas were the perfect grounding note to this dish. My dining partner ordered the costilla de res, a thin sliced ribeye grilled to perfection that came with a different mole so intriguing that we spent a long time discussing its depth and the variety of notes we could identify, and others we couldn't. Even the rice, so often an afterthought in many kitchens, was lively, flavored with poblanos and more. We left quite satisfied and ready to go back and try more. What a treasure to come across this restaurant! My wife had the cod dish, listed in the menu as being part of a 100 year old family recipe. She loves fish and said that this was the best cod she ever had. It was perfectly prepared. I had the pollo en mole. Phenomenal. The chicken was incredibly tender and wonderfully tasty. The vegetables were also incredibly flavorful and perfectly prepared. This was one of those occasions when I was awed by the taste of vegetables. Portion sizes were also generous. Mia, our server, was very informative, friendly and attentive. We also appreciated the atmosphere. There was music, but not overly loud. It didn't hinder any conversation. Actually before that we ordered the house made orange-ade which was fizzy orange juice. They offer table side margaritas and sangria. My spouse ordered the shrimp, I got the carne en su jugo. I get the feeling you could not go wrong ordering here - there were multiple other dishes we wanted to try and will come back for! Everything is delicious. Every dish was composed with care and complementary flavors / textures. For dessert? At least four flavors of flan including classic and chocoflan. The regular menu is gluten free, not sure if that includes the cake in the chocoflan. The owner checked in with all the tables multiple times during the meal. I don't know where all these 5-star reviews are coming from. The inside is beautiful The waitstaff was very good -- until I got home and realized I had been played. The food was "S", if you get my drift, and I'm sure you do. The enchiladas were like nothing I've ever seen before -- and tasted very bad. The beans were black and tasteless. The rice was green and tasted really weird and stuck to the roof of my mouth. I payed $20 plus $2.00 tip for, well, basically cr-p. It's 5 hours since I ate, and I'm still burping. NEVER EVER going back. Oh, and btw, waitstaff told me that this place serves "New Mexican food" and not "Mexican food" and that's why I couldn't get tamales. smh read more

Everything from top to bottom was excellent. My inlaws live in Placitas and we brought our young adult sons to visit. One of our sons has Celiac and is very sensitive. It's difficult to find good restaurants that can cater to young adults and have REALLY good food and service. We came first on Sunday for brunch. The food was very good. It was a bit small on the portions though. We had breakfast enchiladas and omelet and blue corn pancakes. Then we came back for dinner. The chicken mole was divine, tacos, sea bass, pork steak etc. absolutely perfect. Good portions. Food tastes like it was homemade. The cuisine is Mexican...not New Mexican. The server was great about answering any questions and willing to omit something if possible. Our server was attentive and so gracious. The wine list was surprisingly good. We had a French Viognier for less than $50. Finally the owner came out to talk to us and thanks us for coming. I'm in the business and haven't had this kind of service for a long time. This is a lovely little restaurant almost overshadowed by the businesses surrounding it, but once inside the interior is pleasantly decorated with bright colors and large flowers on the wall. Once inside the service was excellent, considering our party took a long time to peruse the menu and prepare to order. Our server answered our questions and assured us everything served is gluten-free, a plus for one of us. When our food arrived, it was the most beautiful plating; each serving was topped with a living pansy and just so artfully composed. The food was absolutely delicious. Three of us ordered quesadillas and one crab tostados. So delicious, with homemade tortillas surrounding 4 different fillings for the quesadillas and crab and beans overflowing on crispy tortillas. Our host was friendly, explained the menu well, made excellent suggestions about food and wines. Owner was just as friendly and welcoming. We ordered the quesadillas (lunch menu item but allowed us to order for dinner), enchiladas and tacos. 5/5 for all 3 entrees. Had the pecan flan for dessert and that was 5/5 as well. We tried the Milanesa de Puerco with poblano rice and fresh vegetables and the Pollo a Las Brazas with the same sides. One meal is shareable and the veggies were very fresh calabacitas. ¡Muy delicioso! Chef visited the table, checking on the food...which by the way is served with a fresh flower on top. All the salsas were yummy, especially the mild but flavorful tomatillo sauce. We were not fans of the tortillas, which is always a personal choice when it comes to tortillas! The server well she needs some work. I asked her if the owner was from Mexico and she said she didn't know if we asked her about plates. She wasn't sure I think she randomly just chose plates.
