After leaving the beach during my mom's visit, we didn't see any lunch spots we really wanted to try, so we ended up heading downtown and trying Hero. I'd read about this place and thought, how can you go wrong with donuts and buns? You can't!!! Since we were hangry by this point in the day, I figured the burgers were going to be gigantic so we ordered one to share with a side of ranch cheese fries. My picture does make it look big, but that's because of the angle. The burger was falling out of that side of the bun and wasn't viewable on the other. Once we got it situated and cut in half, there was not a good bun to meat ratio. It was good. We just realized we shouldn't have opted to share!!! Same with the fries. Ranch dressing and cheese sauce soaked fries. Awesome. But there was about 15 fries. We had all of this liquid goodness left over and no more fries. For $6 I wanted more!!! Since we weren't full, we got two donuts. An Apple fritter and pistachio donut to go. The Apple fritter was amazing!! I'd go back for more of those right now. The pistachio was super sweet. This is the perfect place to stop if you've just spent some time wandering around the farmers market with you family. The location is prime, and they have tons of seating inside. Super clean and colorful interior! Great place to take kids, as they have something for everyone on their menu. We ordered two burgers and one classic doughnut. The burgers were so flavorful and tasted really fresh. Their signature sauce was incredible and reminded me of Shake Shack's sauce. The bun tasted homemade, and was absolutely delicious! The bun is so buttery and soft and all the flavors do a little dance and your mouth! Pure Yumminess!!! I also love the space with the fun mural and decor and they have a small outdoor patio. I had the crunchy buffalo chicken sammich thing with fries. The sammich was a delicious hot mess, so use all the napkins they give you! The buffalo was the right amount of heat (I could taste it, but didn't need to wipe my nose constantly). The chicken was super crunchy, as advertised. It was also big! The fries were awesome! So excited for a new doughnut shop in town! I'm a bit of a doughnut guru if I do say so myself and these doughnuts are delicious! We ordered a cereal milk, vanilla glazed and strawberry glazed doughnut. They were SO fresh. SO light. SO delicious! They are light as air and you can taste how fresh they are. I normally am not a fan of doughnuts with cookie or cereal toppings because the toppings are soft and stale tasting. The fruity pebbles on top of the cereal milk doughnut were still crunchy and that was a big win for me. The vanilla glazed was a classic, but my husband said it might be the best glazed doughnut he's ever had. Strawberry doughnuts are normally my favorite, but unfortunately this one didn't have much of a strawberry flavor. It was too subtle. But the doughnut itself was still delicious. Great breakfast stop in Charleston. My family likes donuts but I don't, so we always try to find a place that has something else. I got the breakfast sandwich with a fried egg and added chicken sausage. They use a bun rather than normal breakfast bread and I was skeptical but it was really good. Very light and airy, kinda like a brioche style bun but not as dense. The best part was whatever the jam was they out on it. Just don't be like me and forget that you subbed a fried egg for the normal folded and take the first bite and have the yolk explode everywhere. We visited Charleston and stayed just around the corner from this place. I placed on order for pickup one morning for the household. Everyone ordered either the bacon, egg and cheese bun or egg and cheese. When I arrived for pick-up there was only one person there who was eating a donut. The meal was ready, so I took it home. The sandwiches were incredibly greasy. The buns had absorbed quite a bit of it and were soft/soggy and the bacon was very fatty. I ate mine after removing the bacon but everyone else took a bit or two and said they just couldn't do it because of the grease. Not sure if the way to go here is donuts or maybe lunch.
