I had a very disappointing experience with Hertz at SeaTac. I reserved a vehicle through my credit card rewards program and paid for the entire 8-day rental in advance using points. Upon arrival, there was only one agent serving a long line of customers, resulting in a wait of more than 45 minutes just to reach the counter. At pickup, Hertz placed a $697 charge on my credit card. I was specifically told this was only a security deposit/authorization hold because the rental had already been paid in full. During the rental process, I expressly declined all optional products and services, including damage waivers, insurance coverage, and other add-ons. I also confirmed with the representative that the charge would only be relevant if the vehicle was returned with damage. I returned the vehicle one day early and was advised by the return agent that there would be no additional charges. I was told the rental had been prepaid, the vehicle was returned without issue, and the security deposit would be released in full and I may get additional points back as a result of the early return. A few days later, however, Hertz charged my credit card an additional $372.22. The receipt included charges for damage waiver-related products, concession recovery fees, and associated taxes, items that I had explicitly declined at pickup. I never authorized these charges and was never informed they would be added to my rental. I was told both at pickup and return that no additional charges would apply. As a result, I now have to spend time disputing the charges with my credit card company. Based on my experience, I found the rental process confusing, the communication inconsistent, and the post-rental billing practices frustrating. Reserved a large luxury sedan for four people and when we got off the flight and got to the rental car facility, our name and parking spot on the board indicated where we should go, all that was left was six Dodge trucks with very small back seats. Even with stacking our luggage on one side of the back seat, we could only put a third person in the truck. No one there at the parking facility to help us. The other couple had to return to the counters and had to wait hours for a car., which was maddening: the cost of their car was double what we paid. Random charge for gas. Unfortunately I didn't take a photo before I leave the car in Instant return (make sure you do it next time!) I topped up the gas before I drove to the return place. The distance is like 25 miles away. When I returned it and gas pointer was definitely at the top line. And honestly when I got the car the pointer was slightly below the top line -I thought it's not a big deal when the staff asked me at the gate. He asked "just tell me whether the gas is full" and I said yes. Later I received a receipt that they charge me $20 dollars for gas at $11.11 per gallon. Vicious upselling!! I had to repeatedly tell them I only wanted the car I had reserved. Also very unclear explanations of what you are being sold. For the first time ever I bought the prepaid gas plan. I thought from the way it was explained that you only paid for the amount if gas they put into it when you return the car. This is not correct. You pay for an ENTIRE tank of gas regardless of the level in the tank when you return the car. They also charge taxes and concessions fees on top of the price per gallon. As a result I ended up paying $81+ for a quarter tank of gas. Lesion learned. I only bought the prepaid plan because they said their prices were cheaper than gas in town. The per gallon price they charged was about .40 a gallon higher than in town prices. In the end what they charged me was $20 higher than their estimate and I have received no receipt or email of any kind with an itemized bill. Pick up and return went well. My complaint has to do with additional charges it said I added to my rental which I did not. Trying to get a hold of a person to talk to on the phone was almost impossible and no pathway to talk to someone specifically about problems with billing (most likely by design). Hold times were well over 40 minutes to speak to someone. Once I got through I was informed the charge shouldn't have been added and I did not sign up for it but they can't remove it until after my car is turned in and the amount is processed. They were able to solve the issue once I called back, but there nothing can be done if they put incorrect charges on your card before completing the rental, which seems a bit ridiculous to have to wait another week for them to reverse the charge on my card and have it finally go through. read more

We rented two 12 passenger vans for an event 5 months before. We called a few days before to confirm they had the vans and we were told they did. When we arrived in WA, they made us wait over 3 hours only to tell us that they did not have the vans and that they would give us 2 large SUVs at a discount. During the hours we were waiting we tried to find another car rental place with the vehicles we needed but all vans were sold out. We took the SUVs only because we did not have a choice. Hertz should know what vehicles they have available and when, and should not overbook. The customer service was horrible, we had to ask multiple times what was going on and when our vans would be available only to be told they were working on it. The two front desk working at SeaTac Hertz January 2nd 2025 around 8-9am is very unprofessional. The emotional distress my brother experienced with the two one female and one male is horrible. Nobody should have experienced anything like that. First the lady was just rude and very demeaning. This is my brother's first time renting car and he's not sure how it works so he's asking questions. My brother used Tap to pay for the downpayment and the lady is saying that it's not going through but we see on our account that it took out $1 each try. So im not sure what's happening. Second, we tried checking in online instead and received a notification that we're checked in and go to the counter to get the car, once my brother when to the counter again, a different agent helped him a male one. He's telling my brother that he's not seeing check in on his end and to just redo everything at the counter. My brother then asked is there any other way to do the downpayment since using his debit will charge him $500. I know that there's policy and we would definitely comply but my brother just asked just in case since he's not familiar with how it works. The male agent just laughed at his face and repeated my brother's question "is there any other way?". If that tiny interaction wouldn't make a person embarrassed and feel messed up then i don't know what else will. I was on the phone with my brother and hearing this whole interaction and that sucks so bad especially when my brother called him out saying why is he laughing because it's not a laughing matter but seriously asking. He didn't need to do that to my brother at all but he did. So messed up. I can't believe someone like this is working at a front agent, a job that requires patience and excellent customer service which clearly they don't have. On Sunday, July 28th my partner and I shared a terrible experience with a Hertz representative at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. We patiently waited in line at the Car Rental Facility and prepared a handful of questions, only to be given short-tempered responses and a literal look of disgust. The representative did not care that we had simple questions that could be answered by any employee with a working knowledge of their company. Our questions inquired about price projections, renting on the spot, and using our rewards points. They refused to answer our questions or be helpful in any manner beyond telling us to "look it up in the app". I asked if they could elaborate, and they literally refused. Beyond their lack of willingness to be helpful, they made us feel judged and unwelcome by giving us a stereotypical look of disgust throughout the interaction. They made it obvious that they thought we were asking stupid questions, and that they wanted to get rid of us as quickly as possible. We were treated like an utter nuisance. As a President's Circle member, this horrible customer service experience was far below my lowest expectations. My partner and I had just spent 12 hours traveling across the country, and an error by our relocator locked us out of our Avis rental. We needed a car rental due to our extraordinary circumstances. I did not expect sympathy for our situation. I had rewards points with Hertz. I was already committed to doing the booking with Hertz. Really bad experience renting from Hertz at Seattle Airport. First, for 30 minutes we were upsold different services, asked to pay additional money becuase reservation was on my name but both me and my husband wanted to drive. We have been traveling together for over 20 years, this was never the case. Then we were given paper work and told what car we will get, when we get to the assigned spot, completely different car was there. We have 2 kids with us tired from the flight and we don't want to go back to the register. Next day the weather got warmer, we were driving about an hour North of Seattle. Finally, she disappeared for several minutes and a guy comes out with an attitude. When we finally got to the counter, he asked if we were gold members. The actual rental went smoothly and was very professional. My husband left his backpack with valuable products inside when we dropped it off. There is absolutely no way to get a live person, in other words, NO Customer Service available. I filed a lost and found claim but have not heard anything. My husband called the Bellingham airport and an employee, Anne said she talked to Bryan at the Hertz counter who admitted he saw a backpack in the car when he was cleaning it. I did go in to the Bellingham airport to ask about the backpack and was told no one saw one. They car had been sent back to Seattle by the time I got there so we couldn't go look for it. I have been unable to speak to anyone because as I mentioned above it is absolutely impossible to reach a live person. Where is the backpack and when might we receive it? I think it's so cute and convenient how all the rent a car places are in one building close to the airport. The shuttle picks you up right outside your terminal and takes you right here. They have automated stations or you can stand in line to speak to an associate. It's so convenient and nicely laid out that I didn't mind the wait. The woman who helped me was so friendly and just had a personable vibe. One of the nicest people I've ever met in this type of business. You can tell she loves coming to work, or maybe is just really good at faking it.. Either way, I loved her! The parking lot layout is really simple to follow as well. Each level is a different company and you just follow the stall numbers until you find yours. When you return the car there are workers there who check the car and get you your receipt so you don't have to stand in line again. It's awesome.. Best rent a car place... EVER! read more

Stay away from this particular location. I have had really good experience with Hertz but not at this one. We were offered the insurance coverages which we declined. The person at the desk gives us an estimated bill which added the "loss of use" coverage. My wife asks him why he did that and his response was "your insurance doesn't cover that - you need it." This upset my wife as she told him she didn't need the coverages. He completely ignored what she said to him and had we not noticed would have been left with this charge. I'm sure this works on some customers who don't realize that this crook adds it back in. This is fraudulent - this crook doesn't know our insurance.
