I rented a Sport Utility for almost $200 a day and it was terrible because cloth seats (not power) and NO BLUETOOTH Connectivity for my phone? Really! I can't remember I rented a vehicle without bluetooth. Top dollar for a poorly optioned car. I bought the full tank option because $9.99 a gallon is just a plain rip off! Add all the garbage fees like Vehicle Licensing Cost Recovery Fee of $29.95 which is $10 a day x 365 days=$3,650 a year! Plus Customer facility charge $19.11! Seriously! Uber is going to put you out of business! No more Hertz for me! read more

Let me start this off by saying that the employees working at this location were kind and pleasant. However, my experience has been colored by the fact that they have been completely unprofessional in providing me with documents necessary to make an insurance claim. My windshield was cracked slightly by a pebble while I was on the highway. I called the location immediately, informing them and asking what to do. They said not to worry, that it would be handled upon return. They said we could return after hours, which we did. The next morning, my partner called to check in. They said they had to replace the entire windshield (mind you, it was only a tiny crack when we left it) and that they would follow up with the necessary documentation. They never did, so I called a week later to ask. The man who answered said he knew nothing about it and: "You must be really honest to call and tell us about this damage, we don't have any record of it." That was strange, but I let it go. Two weeks later, I saw that my credit card was charged for $211 with no explanation. I called the location, who said they didn't have the documentation. I then called the main Hertz line, and after being passed around to at least 3 different departments, they directed me back to the local office. I need a list of the damage and the services rendered, among other things, to submit a claim through my credit card insurance. Because of their incompetence, I missed the window during which I could be reimbursed. When I finally filed a dispute through my credit card (to force them to show what repairs were done), they didn't provide anything useful. I will be calling tomorrow and and will continue to do so every day until this is resolved. read more

Every time I rent from here I seem to have a problem--last time it was a $30 "administrative fee" on "late payment" of a parking ticket that had been dismissed (eventually I made it go away, though it was a hassle)...this time it's "damage" reported long after I returned the car. (Although after I called to ask about it, the corporate office made the problem go away immediately, so props to them for that.) The latest time it was the office being closed during normal business hours...apparently there was only one guy staffing the entire office on a Saturday, and somebody had reserved the "we'll pick you up" service, so...lock up the entire office while the single staffer goes and gets the customer. The lot is tiny and massively crowded, and you can see the sales goals posted on the wall for the collision damage waiver insurance from the front desk...but it is the only rental car company within walking distance of the Davis/Porter area. read more

DO NOT RENT FROM THIS LOCATION!!!!!!!!!!!! I made a reservation online which quoted me for $92 for two days. When I got to the location, they said if I was going to return it on Sunday, in order to do the key drop off, they would not honor the contract and charge me an extra day or I could return to Logan Airport, which would be $30 taxi fair to get home. Since it was Friday afternoon and all other carrental places were closed, I had no option but to take this. Also, unlike Enterprise, they charge for a spouse to be added as a driver $13.75 per day. If I could give them 0 stars I would. I rented from them because my car got totalled in a flood in Cambridge. Two days later, the rental has its window smashed. I ask Hertz what to do and they say tell my insurance and then they will submit a claim to them. When I return the car they push me to get another one, but I insist I don't need one. That is my first annoyance: really pushy sales guy. Then, 7 months later I get a claim from them that I never paid the $190 for the broken window. When I call the number on that claim, I get sent to a voicemail that is full, so I am unable to leave a message. (Second annoyance: who at a company lets their voicemail box get full!) I emailed them and they claim they mailed me when it happened. They said that they never submit claims to insurance companies, and by now that doesn't even matter because I decided not to get a new car, and have cancelled my insurance. read more

Had my first experience with this Hertz location this weekend for a quick trip to visit family in Connecticut. I usually go with Zipcar for my car rentals, but for a 2-day trip Hertz had very competitive rates. Made my reservation and checked-in online, which was very easy. When I picked up the car, the gentleman at the front desk was very friendly and helpful. He even offered to help pull the car out of the very tight parking space at the front of the building. I had no issues with the car. I returned the car on a Sunday (the office was closed) and that process was relatively easy as well. My only gripe is that returning the car on the off-hours can be confusing parking-wise. There are certain spots you're not supposed to park in, but the Hertz spots are not clearly marked. I was not sure where I was supposed to park and I think that some paint or clear signage could help clear up this confusion for others. Other than that, I had a very positive experience and will be using Hertz for my other weekend rentals. read more

First of all, this place is a hole in the wall. They said they had been there eight years, but it's not obvious to the naked eye. I rented a nice modern car online from them this past weekend and it was a breeze. I've never rented a car that fast before. Nick was the one who assisted me. Very friendly and explained everything. Even told me that they were not open on Sunday and gave me the option to return it at the Park Plaza location. I was so impressed that I signed up for their Gold membership. read more

Don't go to this location. They hijack your credit card and hardly release you. I returned the car after their office closed, believing the staff member's saying that there would be no problem if I park the car within their property and put the key in the box properly. I did everything properly and took photos proving what I did. However, I found that an additional charge of 100$ was put on my card after I returned the car and, when I called the Hertz customer service, the agent on the phone said the rental was not closed until four days after I returned the car. Now it has been two days from my phone conversation with the customer service agent, which is the maximum time that would be needed for them to close the rental case, send me the final receipt, and release my card, but there is no indication that such a thing has happened. I have just found that there is a similar review on this Yelp page, so I guess this branch people are intentionally doing this fraud. read more

Rented a car for a few hours back in November at the Somerville (MA) Hertz location. Returned the car to their parking lot and left keys in mailbox as they indicated (it was after hours). They claimed I returned the car to Logan airport and overcharged me $200. Fortunately, I took photo of odometer of car geolocated in parking lot plus kept timed receipt from gas station across the street proving I returned the car to their parking lot. After a few phone calls, they admitted it was their mistake. It is almost March now and they have yet to return the $200! I have called about 10 times requesting they return the money. They claim they are working on it. I would NEVER trust this location again. Either they are incompetent or they are trying to get away with overcharging me. read more

I reserved a car three weeks in advance and when I arrived, there were several people waiting and not a single car to be had. An hour and a half later, a car was brought in (a gas guzzling SUV - not what I had reserved). The car was dirty and reeked of smoke. Already late, I had to take it and we ended up driving with the heat on and windows open as my kids complained of nausea because of the smell. No fun for nine hours of driving over two days. The staff was amazing - professional, courteous, and helpful. They picked me up and dropped me off - a few time:) I had a bit of an emergency....was heading out of town for a job interview. Went to hand them my credit card and drivers license and realized I didn't have my license. Because my bank forgot to hand it back to me after cashing a check. They gladly dropped me back home. I've rented from here a number of times and they've always been friendly and helpful. Most recently I left a tiny generic item in the trunk. I figured they would toss it when cleaning the car but to my amazement they found it and returned it to me. Thanks Cecil and Nick! Like with any local car rental agency there's a small staff so depending on when you show up there may be a long wait or none at all. If you rent from Hertz it's worth signing up for their free Gold program which makes the rental process faster and can earn free rental days. read more

This place is completely useless and how much you pay for a rental depends on the person you work with. We rented a car for like a day and a few hours, and we've done this several times and only ever been charged for one day. Some of the sales stuff or managers or whoever these people are will only charge you for one day when this happens. Others will randomly decide to charge you for two. It's inconsistent and annoying to deal with anyone here, and I'd rather just go to Enterprise where everything is always clear and consistent. Plus, they'll pick you up. read more

Some businesses are so great it's not enough to just tell your friends about it. Why do I love this Hertz so much? 1) a real person answers the phone 2) the person is at the location you are calling instead of at a branch somewhere half way across the country 3) people at this branch actually care about your needs. 4) it's super fast and easy to pick up the car 5) you get what you expected 6) this Hertz location is central yet you don't have to fight crazy traffic to get to it. I've rented from this location several times and the service is consistently great. In fact, it keeps getting better/easier every time because the people who work there actually remember the customers that come through the door. The first time I rented my vehicle needs were a bit specific. I called 5 different companies, each time I was disappointed by the apathy and cookie-cutter service I was getting. It was so refreshing to deal with agent at Hertz - he actually listened to me, had ideas and suggestions, and made sure I drove away in a vehicle that would serve my travel needs. Helped by two overworked, clueless employees on a Thursday afternoon, neither of whom explained Hertz's "PlatePass" system. Apparently, by default, this little transponder is activated, which pays your tolls. You can turn off the transponder if you want to use your own (i.e. a FastLane transponder), but neither of the employees who helped me felt the need to describe this service. It's not at all obvious that there is such a transponder--it's concealed from view, and the people who rent you the car won't tell you about it. I had no idea this program existed, and used my own device to pay tolls. Now, a week later, I'm getting credit card charges from Hertz's shady subcontractor, American Traffic Solutions, charging me for tolls that I already paid! Avoid these tricksters if you can--use Enterprise in Central Square, they don't pull any scams like this. Hidden tricks like this give rental companies a bad name. [I'm editing my review a bit, tempering my rating as my anger at Hertz has abated. The toll trick is still despicable, negligent, or both. But the location is convenient, and Hertz has the advantage of allowing unlimited mileage, unlike Enterprise. I'm still unhappy, but they don't quite deserve only one star.] read more

It should be 0 stars! I had to cancel my trip because of the very poor service. My car was reserved but when I went to pick it up, they had no idea how to use my debit/credit cards, they asked for a social security number though I am only a visitor from Europe (meaning I could not have one), and required that someone - a friend - with a social security number - should come in and pay using his card. Calling someone to help me, only after an hour and a half of being there with my friend and trying different cards (they kept saying that our cards might not have enough balance, totally not the case), they just closed the business with us by saying "Hertz can not rent you a car today". I asked them how is it possible not to be able to help us someway, maybe calling another office or giving us a second choice instead of loosing our trip, but they would not even talk to us. We just had to leave. We have never been treated that way. Asking other car companies, I found out that they just didn' t know how to use a debit/credit card case, since most places like "enterprise" ask for a credit card only. My bank blocked my cards from the many times they tried to have access to them!!! read more

Branch Manager Mr. Hatim Mohamed Belmedani is a very rude individual. I paid for the rental in advance. Unfortunately, I was in the very difficult situation and had to use a train, bus and uber to reach the rental office. I could not arrive on time to pick up the car and was running late and for that reason I called to ask if they can wait few minutes for me and they said yes. But of course they did not wait and the office was closed at 6:13. Then when I came back the next day to finally take the car, first that individual said that all cars were out, even though there were 5 cars parked in front. Then he said he doesn't want to give me the car. After I requested the refund he told me that is not going to happen. The conversation was unpleasant and his behavior hostile. I am a Hertz Gold Member and have never in my life been treated so disrespectfully in the office of this company. I came from Chicago and lost money, time and energy because of this insolent man. I dropped off a car after regular hours and wanted to check if everything was ok but have been unable to reach anyone at the actual site. These guys were super nice and helpful when I went in. When it comes down to billing, these guys are completely incompetent. I gave my insurance claim information with them and they required a credit card because the case was not settled. Next day the case settled and I called in. They say I shouldn't be billed anything and that insurance will pay for my rental. Great. A week later I get a call from Hertz vehicle recovery saying I hadn't returned my car. Turns out they never input my claim number and held a 3 day rental on my credit card (I had the car a total of 10 days). I call in and they see the claim number on file and will stop the charges to my card. Well, I STILL got charged the money for the length of the rental and now have to go down to get a receipt from them to try to get reimbursed the cash from the insurance company. I shouldn't have to go through all this hassle when all these people had to do was input a 6 or 7 letter/digit code into their computer system. What a joke. read more

The staff is very rude and really pushes the Hertz personal accident insurance. The guy at the desk tried to convince me that my personal auto insurance won't cover my Hertz vehicle because the Hertz vehicle is a newer model than my personal vehicle. What a croc! He also wouldn't accept my Costco membership discount, which he is obligated to do. Here's a tip - this place has may compact cars, but very few midsize and standard size vehicles. Be sure to reserve a midsize and you will likely get a free upgrade to a full size. I've found the staff at the Enterprise across the street to be much more pleasant and helpful. read more
