I didnt get my drink until after my meal....the soup smelt and tasted sour....i ordered a tuna melt and got a cold sandwich...i took it back and heska had an attitude aboit it....i will NEVER GO HERE AGAIN!!!! fresh baked breads make the sandwiches extra special. come here when you have time to chill- it can take longer than anticipated to get your food. coffee drinks are served in ceramic mugs (if i recall, a lot are made by her daughter). i used to come often a few years ago, but the last time we went it took so long to get the food that my boyfriend won't return. i've got lots of local love, so i'll be back. read more

Phenomenal food and drinks (the coffee and the breakfast sandwhiches are amazing). Eat eat and eat some more!!! The much of the food here is sooooo divine. All of their bread is in house made, and it really holds the meal together. Our first visit was June 7. Though we live locally, we thought this was more of a coffee shop than a restaurant. It does have a (somewhat) limited menu, but one that is far expanded from munchies and treats. Think of it something on the order of Panera Bread in terms of menu selection - some salads, sandwiches, some soups, smoothies, coffee, etc. There's a laid-back, organic vibe to the place; extremely friendly and warm people. We had the Mongolian chicken sandwich (spicy and balanced on a fresh-baked roll made in-house), the broccoli soup (creamy and home-made tasting without tons of salt), the meatball sandwich (flavorful meatballs in complimentary, balanced sauce on the same house-made French roll), a Greek salad (very fresh, vibrant greens and veg with a tangy vinaigrette), and a couple of smoothies. Highlights here, and why I'm going with five stars, is the freshness and flavors. The sandwiches, the salad, the soup, even the smoothies were put together and seasoned in a manner that highlighted the freshness of the ingredients and showed a respect for the fare. In terms of price, it's a touch on the high side for what you get in terms of size alone - but when you consider what you get, the value is definitely there. You could do better in terms of food volume if you were living on an extremely tight budget or just wanted to stuff your gut with boxed franchise food. For clearly fresh, house-made (and sometimes house-grown) food with strong flavor, good balance, and great taste, they offer a fair and reasonable value. Nothing that we got seemed liked it was over-priced. They are like a traditional coffee shop in that they have televisions, WI-FI, tables to spread out at, and an owner who will sit down and play guitar when not otherwise to busy. Think coffee shops that used to exist before a certain corporate giant tried to bottle and distribute that vibe to every street corner. I can't think of how many times I've driven by this place to get a chain sandwich from the franchise giant virtually right across the street, or even to get a salad/sammie from the aforementioned casual dining bakery chain. Not anymore - our local casual dining dollar will definitely be going to the Sugar Shack instead! read more

I've been here a few times, and like it more with each visit. I had to post a review cause I disagree with a previous one. I found the coffee drinks to be well made, delicious and surprisingly cheaper than local Coffee Bean and Star$'s. Also, on my last visit, I went with my dog and hubby and they offered us water for our dog when they noticed me sitting outside with the dog. Very pleasant owners, and the food is surprisingly fresh and always delicious. I intend to frequent this local gem. Just my two cents... read more

This place is fantastic!!! I can't believe it has taken us this long to check it out. We both had the breakfast sandwich with bacon and then shared the biscuits and gravy. Yummy! Very welcoming atmosphere, they make you feel right at home. Clean, friendly, and great food, what more could you ask? We will definitely add this our weekend schedule for sure! So dissapointment! After reading the reviews we decided to order dinner for take out. I was surprised at how pricey it was but figured it would be worth it. When we got home we immediately noticed the gross stale sour cream and onion potato chips in the "haystack" that were supposed to be Fritos. We had to pick through just to eat the rest of the dish. The clam chowder was ok. Our daughter had the meatball sandwich which was also just ok. The worst part of our meal was the chef salad. A small side salad costing almost $8. The meat in it was clearly old and the ham smelled really bad. The ranch dressing was disgusting. It tasted sour and rancid. We couldn't even eat the salad. It was immediately thrown out. We were so disappointed from this $50 meal that I almost felt like calling them but decided to yelp instead. read more

The veggie sandwich had an entire salad on it, and my friend claimed her blt sandwich was the best...and she's a caterer :) Glad we weren't deterred by the guy who had to wait for an hour. I've always wanted to visit this place, but never taken the time to do so. So when I finally did, the first thing I ordered was coffee. The owner was very friendly and nice. I have to say coffee was not that great, so that is why I didn't give them a 5 star. However, everything about it was unique and I really like that. I liked it so much I took my friend there that afternoon for the second time to try their sandwiches. Their prices is very reasonable. Heska's Sugar Shack is very good with sandwiches for sure. Their bread is really good. The owner said they bake their own bread and most of everything is homemade, so I really like that. Heska's is a family owned business so I try to bring business to family owned places. It's definitely a unique little place, an eclectic look and feel to it. It has cards and games for you to use it, too. I would definitely bring my business there anytime. read more

We had the tuna and the veggie and both were phenomenal (tuna was slightly better though). I want to give them a high rating, but we drove from my in laws house all the way from chino to try their well known chicken salad. Their online hours show a closing time of 6pm and we arrived at 4:30pm, only to be told by a gentlemen that they are already closed! The OPEN sign was even still on.
