I can only comment on the pho.. and I'm a huge Pho fanatic. Sorry but this may be one of the worst pho experiences ever. Broth had no flavor whatsoever and tasted like dishwater. Could barely eat 5 bites, each time thinking.. "this can't be that bad". It's been years since I left a restaurant hungry and afterwards immediately went to the Pterrys across the street bc I didn't have time left in my lunch break. After living down the road, for three years, my boyfriend and I finally decided to try Het Sey. I must say, we were both very happy with this location. It's small, inexpensive, and local! We had the Pork Belly Bao buns to start with, and Crab Rangoons. The Bao buns were so good. The pork was not dry at all, nor was it heavy in fat. The crab Rangoons were done well, they come 4 to an order, with a sweet dipping sauce. The main dish, Braised Pork Belly & Egg. Amazing! The dish is seasoned very well, with a slight crisp to the pork, but also melted in your mouth. It is served with the right amount of rice, which is cooked just right. Also, they recently added Bobba Tea to their menu. We had the Taro Bobba Tea, it was superb! Very well priced, as well. Overall, a great experience. We will be back, and definitely recommend! read more

My first time at this establishment. Order at the counter and the food is brought to your table. Table has sriracha and hoisin bottles. There are red chili sauce bottles by the drink dispensers. I had pho with steak. The protein to noodle ratio was good and the broth had a very rich beefy flavor. The noodles were cooked well. This was a perfect meal for a rainy and cloudy Sunday morning. I ordered the Com Thit Kho (braised pork belly with egg). My meal was fairly decent, rice a little dry. Aside from all that, mediocre dish!

I usually order from this restaurant, and here's my review thus far (it's a harsher review, but definitely none of the food is bad, the things I've tried were just not super yummy like I know them to be): - Grilled Pork Banh Mi: A tiny sprig of cilantro, not enough pickled carrots, and not nearly enough cucumbers. Maybe try asking them for extra veggies if you want what I know to be a "normally" dressed Banh Mi. Also, they don't come with jalapeños, which isn't a common thing I run into with Banh Mi (it would've been better if it had some in it). The Mayo was fine-- I'm always glad when they don't drown it in mayo. The meat was cut smaller than most other Vietnamese restaurants I've gone to, and was seasoned okay-ish. It was just an overall bland San which-- totally edible and I ate it all, but I'm still craving the flavors of what I know to be a super flavorful Banh Mi since this one was just "meh". I've gotten the beef pho from here too, but it's been a couple months since then. I remember thinking it was tasty. I'll come update this review once I try more things from here. (: read more

Het say - yum. I wouldn't normally leave a Yelp review after one visit to a strip mall Vietnamese restaurant, but it's worth it! Had the bao buns and lemongrass chicken vermicelli bowl. The bao buns with pork belly belly were very flavorful (and I normally feel like steam buns are a little bland). The vermicelli bowl was also flavorful, super fresh and just the right amount of heart yet still light (feeling). Maybe I was super hungry, but I couldn't stop yapping about it. So so good! The service was great and the food was even better. I got the Viet Beef Stew and it was to die for! The seaweed salad was yummy and the calamari had great flavor. We love the Pho at Het Say Vietnamese Kitchen. My fiance and I generally both order the Beef Pho. They allow you to customize too with extra noodles or meat which is nice depending on what we're feeling. The broth is always really rich, the food is fresh, and always a treat. We chose to try this spot instead of going to one of the bigger pho spots on East Riverside. There is Courtney ordering and we were greeted and helped by a friendly younger guy. Their menu is small--some appetizers, only 3 types of pho, vermicelli bowl, and some stir fry dishes. My husband got the beef pho and I got the chicken. Plus we had chicken spring rolls and I got an Argus cider. They have TX and Asian beers, cider, and a few wines in small single-serve bottles. My husband felt like his pho broth wasn't quite hot enough bc some of the meat remained pink. He also didn't read the menu well and it came with 3 types of beef which he did not like. If you feel under the weather or want a good lighter soup then the chicken pho is great, always a good amount of tasty broth and chicken/ noodles. if you need a heavier soup after a night of drinking, the beef stew is amazing with really tender and tasty meat and broth. We get takeout from Het Say on the regular, and have not once been disappointed. Everything we've had has been delicious and consistently good. Highlights for me include the short ribs - incredibly tender and perfectly flavored; Pad Thai- a staple but here it is simple, and my favorite flavors; the bao buns with pork belly- delicious, crispy pork. Tony, the owner has transformed the inside into a clean, welcoming environment. The menu reflects well thought out, affordable dishes. Wow! I'm really glad I found this resturaunt since the other pho place I have been going to (Pho please) is pricey and not that worth it. The spring rolls and peanut sauce were amazing (and I'm really picky about these things) as was the pho. My friend had the Thit Kho which was rich and filling. Based on others reviews this place was delicious, and will come back when in town. It is located in a strip center off the main road in the hood with a lot of homeless people. Other than that. We ordered combination pho, egg rolls, stewed pork belly w/ white rice spring mixed salad and iceberg lettuce, and grilled pork ribs w/white rice spring mixed salad and iceberg lettuce. Vietnamese Iced coffee and mango smoothie with boba.I can probably go else where for the pho. It was subpar and broth was not steaming hot. They didn't have the chili oil, but sambal (vinegary chili sauce) usually eaten with rice porridge. It's not meant for to be eaten with pho. Egg rolls tasted they were sitting under a heat lamp. It literally came out 1 min after we sat down and the meat inside was not piping hot like how it should be. Now let's talk everything else.... It was Delish! Please do order everything else I mentioned. Pork ribs has a yummy lemongrass rub and very tender. The pork belly has good fat to meat ratio very tender and is cut in smaller pieces so it's all eaten in just 1 bite. read more

my housemate and I stopped by for lunch today. the brisket bao appetizer was delicious -- SO fresh and tasty, but even better was my bowl of bún thịt nướng with chả giò. the noodles were fresh and the perfect texture, and everything was flavored just right. my housemate's bún bò xào was also very well-executed, and we left with full to-go boxes that we promptly finished later in the day. we'll definitely be back! read more

This is definitely a repeat spot for us. The turmeric chicken, braised pork, and fried tofu are a must. The meats are tender and full of flavor! The texture of the tofu is great, along with that dipping sauce. We've tried their spring rolls and they could be a little more interesting. Also, their meals come with ice berg lettuce. I love Het Say! Hey Say is a mom and pop restaurant so it doesn't really stand out when you drive by but it's definitely a hidden gem. The owners are nice and never really a long wait even at lunch time. I order mainly the Pho Het Say which is similar to the Pho Dac Biet and in my opinion their pho is just like mom's homemade pho! I stopped going to all the other Asian options I had in the area once I found this place. I am a returning customer that eats here 1/2 times a week. The portion/price is generous & affordable. I would recommend the salt & pepper shrimp, turmeric chicken or lemon butter fish. I've tried it all & honestly the only thing I didn't enjoy from the menu was the curry. Wasn't for me but that's ok ! If you come across a review that's negative don't let it stop you from trying this place out. The braised turmeric chicken might be one of the best stews I've ever eaten. The chicken is on the bone so it requires a little work but it's really worth it! Great dumplings and pork belly bao/bun. Pad Thai was more like Chinese Ho Fun but still very very good. If only we lived closer we'd come all the time! read more
