Came here with a small group yesterday for dinner. The man working the counter was super friendly and kind. We ordered some Rangoon's and egg rolls (my faveeee!) For our main course we had the pork vermicelli bowl and a pork banhmi . We also tried the ribs! Everything was very delicious and affordable. I went back for more egg rolls because they are so freaking amazing! Go here fast! So yummy. Two words: Hidden Gem. This place is sneakily hiding in a strip center off East Oltorf. When you walk in, you'll likely be greeted at the counter by a very friendly employee who can give you great advice on what to order and deets on all the menu items. You'll also notice the place is impeccably clean and decorated shockingly cute for a little noodle shop in a strip mall! Now, let's talk about their food: delicious noodle bowls, perfectly rolled spring rolls, steaming and flavorful pho, and even bubble smoothies! I am so obsessed with the food at this place, I once ate here three times in one week, plus leftovers on the days I didn't actually eat at the restaurant :) It is THAT good, and they have so many options, it never gets old! I may regret writing this review if it causes a frenzy of lines out the door, bc I'm selfish and hate waiting in lines for all the good food in this city. But A.) I went here a few weeks ago to try out new Vietnamese restaurants in the area. The interior was kept up with well. It seemed most of the orders were takeout rather than dine in. We ended up eating in at the restaurant. The pho was pretty overpriced and mediocre at best, but I think the place still deserved credit for the variety on the menu. You know the deal. You wake up a little later than usual on a Sunday morning after going out the night before, kind of hungover but far from ruined. It's a chilly January day in Austin and there ain't ish in the fridge: it's pho time. Hell, even if the fridge was stocked full it'd probably be go time for pho time anyway. Having just moved to Austin, I search Yelp for a place where I can get my pho fix, and low and behold Het Say is literally right around the corner. Vietnamese restaurants are notoriously bare bones in their approach to aesthetics and customer service, and Het Say is no different. There aren't any servers; you order at the counter and serve yourself a drink. It's a simple yet clean and spacious place. The menu is just as limited as the service, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. If you're here for the pho, you'll only have three options to choose from: beef (angus sirloin, brisket, and meatball), chicken, or vegetable. Pho purists might get miffed by the lack of variety; you won't get any tripe or tendon here. I opt for the beef pho, which comes out in what must be less than 2 minutes. There's only one portion size, and compared to other pho joints I've been to the size is a little on the small side. The broth is flavorful and tasty, although it lacks some of the cardamon and star anise notes that really set a pho broth apart from the rest. The noodles were cooked just right, as was the meat. The helpings of both were about average in terms of quantity. Het Say is good for what it is: A solid place to get your pho fix if you live around here. if you're looking for extraordinary (more "authentic") pho, you might want to look elsewhere though. read more

We stared with the pork belly bar buns and they were tender and flavorful and reasonably price at 2 for $5! My son had the chicken pho and said it was very good!! It looked like all white meat chicken sliced thin and tender. All of the fresh veggies/aromatics came on a plate on the side so you are in control of the extras. I had the pork Thai fried rice. It was absolutely scrumptious!! I did add the provided Chile sauce and that took it over the top for me! I couldn't stop eating it! I can't wait to go back as there are several things I want to try but first I have to quit thinking about the two things I already ate that were mouth watering! The servers were very nice, but that's where it ended for us. We each got Pho and got a side Bahn Mi sandwich to try it out. We got the round eye beef on the side for the Pho - it came out and was already a pale brown color (should be red) and the broth was not satisfying at all. Their other food may be good - but as far as Pho is concerned, definitely go somewhere else as this is unlikely to satisfy that craving. We didn't even come close to finishing ours; which is VERY unlike us, Bc Pho is kind of an obsession of ours. The Bahn Mi wasn't memorable, but wasn't bad! read more
